About the Rockford Fosgate P3-1X12

Jo Greene

Standout performance

Rockford Fosgate's P3-1X12 ported enclosure offers the extra power handling and advanced heat dissipation of a Punch P3 12" sub, so you'll hear impressive, crowd-drawing bass that just won't quit.

Heat-sink aluminum cone

The enclosure houses a Punch P3 12" sub, with a rigid anodized aluminum cone that holds its shape through heavy play, while staying light and responsive. The aluminum cone acts as a giant heat sink, and works alongside advanced cooling vents to direct heat away from the copper-clad aluminum voice coils. These innovative cooling techniques, plus a heavy-duty motor assembly, let this sub handle up to 600 watts RMS without flinching. The sub's dual voice coils are wired for a 1-ohm total impedance, so make sure your amp can power this enclosure safely.

Advanced port design

Rugged 5/8" medium-density fiberboard construction means this enclosure will hold strong for fat, heavy bass. Industrial-grade black carpet provides a clean, finished look, and protects your trunk from nicks and scratches. The spring terminals will accept bare wire, pin connectors, or banana plugs. This enclosure uses an advanced port design that promotes generous air movement, while reducing distortion-causing port noise, so you hear louder, deeper bass. Add an amp and some wiring, and feel the thick low end this enclosure adds to your ride.

Features

Punch Woofer: The enclosure houses one front-firing Rockford Fosgate Punch P3D2-12 12" subwoofer. The dual 2-ohm voice coils are internally wired in parallel to present a 1-ohm load. The sub features a hybrid StampCast basket, an Anodized aluminum cone, and Santoprene surround. An anodized aluminum voice coil former and spider venting help keep the subwoofer cool.

Spider: Dual spiders made from tear and fatigue resistant poly-cotton improve mechanical stability under high excursion, maintaining consistent excursion characteristics.

Solid MDF Construction: The enclosure is constructed of high quality 5/8" MDF (medium-density fiberboard), which resists flexing and has anti-resonant qualities.

Vented Enclosure: The vented enclosure is aided by precision construction through computer design. The enclosure consists of one front firing 12" Punch P3 series subwoofer with a proprietary high-flow, low-noise port. The speaker terminals are located on the left side of the box (when facing the box). The box is covered in black carpet.

Tuned Port: The enclosure uses a front-firing proprietary high-flow, low-noise port to help produce deep and loud bass efficiently.

Box Carpeting: The enclosure is finished with high-density carpeting for superior durability. The carpet is black.

Speaker Terminal: The subwoofer enclosure uses one pair of high current, spring loaded binding posts. The binding posts are located on the left side of the box and will accept pin connectors, single or dual banana plugs, or bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Power Handling: The subwoofer can handle up to 600 watts RMS; 1200 watts peak power.

CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling on the P3D2-12 subwoofer conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards. This means the subwoofer has the capacity to handle its rated power under continuous demand, not just for an instant.

Dimensions: The depth dimensions listed in Features & Specs include the subwoofer's trim ring, which adds approximately 7/8 of an inch. The depth of just the enclosure is 15-3/4 inches at the base and 13-1/8 inches at the top.

Q
Will this not work with a JL Audio RD900/5? Looking for a boxed sub in the 12-15 inch range, that I can power with the fifth channel on the RD-900 and get good results. Thanks for your help

i don't believe so, amp needs to be 1 ohm stable to power this sub, there are options to get the sub at 2 ohms but i don't believe this package has that
conor  Nov 21, 2021
A
This sub is 1ohm resistance. Looks like your amp is 2ohm. Check your amp specs for that and match the sub to that same resistance.

Q
This can be opened up and re-wired in series to run at 4 ohms correct?
john  Sep 06, 2021

yes it comes wired to 1 ohm, but can be rewired to 4 ohms, i suggest just buying the sub without the box for this

Q
I have this P3 12in in the box. I currently have a kicker 800.1 amp. Will it work on this set up or need to wire sub in parallel?
chad  Apr 24, 2021
2 answers
A
The P3 is wired to 1 ohm and the kicker 800.1 is 1 ohm stable so it should be plug and play. Just set gains accordingly and enjoy!
dale wayne  Apr 24, 2021
A
If your amp is 1ohm stable it will work great
justin  Apr 24, 2021
Q
What is the cu ft of the box?
ogtriple  Apr 05, 2021
1 answer
A
We did not research the internal box volume since Rockford Fosgate already installed a sub into it. The sub that is in it has a recommended internal volume of 1.79 cubic feet for a ported enclosure which indicates this is the likely volume inside the box.

Q
Can i hook this up to my jbl gtx 500 amp?
william  Feb 06, 2021
1 answer
A
The JBL GTX500 amp does not support 1 ohm loads and should not be used with this subwoofer box. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to get a personal recommendation on a subwoofer and box for your amp

Q
I have a Rockford Fosgate Prime R1200 in the car, would this be a good match with this sub? If so, any wiring/tweaks that I would have to do?
jaime  Dec 26, 2020
1 answer
A
This box has a P3D2-12 subwoofer wired to a 1 ohm load. This will not work with your amp but if you change the wiring of the voice coils from parallel to series, then it will work with your amp.

Q
Does the P3D2-12 woofer sound better, and go lower in this enclosure or when installed in the Sound Ordnance Bass Bunker BB12-200V vented enclosure?

The Rockford box is built to exact specs. It sounds great and hits low. Only issue were the speaker vents rattled a bit since they are metal. I took them off

It hits very low, awesome sub

Does the Rockford fosgate loaded P3 come with the mesh grill?

No i does not, you have to buy it separately for like $20 but it's worth it.
alexis  May 27, 2019
A
No it doesn't but one is available through Crutchfield
armando  May 26, 2019
A
It does not. But Crutchfield does carry one that is easy to install. Highly recomended to protect the cone from items in your trunk while still looking good.

What is the port tuning and how low does it play while still having some punch? I have a p300-12 and it lacks in the lows

We checked with Rockford Fosgate and confirmed that the enclosure is tuned at 38Hz. I hope that helps. My bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Ryan

This lacks in nothing, when the bass gets lower you can really tell it. Buy one of these and a Rockford Fosgate Prime amp you won't be disappointed! You'll be heard way before you're seen arriving!!

Yes: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_575P2P3G12/item.html You'll also find the grill listed under the "Accessories" tab on the subwoofer's main webpage. I hope that helps. My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Ryan

According to the specs, this is a dual 2ohm voice coil sub that's internally wired parallel to 1ohm. My amp is only stable to 2ohm. Can I open this up when I get it and wire it in series to get 2ohms? Thanks in advance.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: If you have all the wiring needs, you'll just need the line output converter to use it with your factory radio. I'd go with the AudioControl LC2i and you can check it out here: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_161LC2I/AudioControl-LC2i.html If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
