About the Rockford Fosgate P3D4-10

Jo Greene

Standout performance

Rockford Fosgate showcases their fanatical commitment to sonic excellence in the Punch Series of speakers, amps, and subs. If you like to listen to potent, powerful music — and feel it too — Punch components will give you impressive sound that'll stand out in a crowd.

Exploded view

Designed for deeper, louder bass

Rockford Fosgate designed the P3D4-10 10" subwoofer to stay strong even when the bass gets hot. This Punch P3 sub features a rigid anodized aluminum cone that holds its shape through heavy play, while staying light and responsive. Rockford Fosgate uses a new technique to attach the oversized rubber surround to the cone that increases available cone area up to 25%, so this sub can push more air for even bigger bass.

Heat-sink cone

The aluminum cone acts as a giant heat sink, directing heat away from the copper-clad aluminum voice coils. Special venting keeps the voice coils cool, so you get incredibly consistent bass performance over time. This P3 sub features an extended pole piece and bumped backplate that leaves more room for heavy excursion, so it'll hit deeper lows without "bottoming out."

The dual 4-ohm voice coils allow you to wire the sub for 2-ohm impedance to get maximum power output, or for 8-ohm impedance if you're using multiple subs. The P3D4-10 sub works equally well in a sealed or ported enclosure, so you can choose the kind of bass you want for your system.

Product Research

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate Punch P3D4-10 is a 10-inch subwoofer with dual 4Ω voice coils. The sub features a hybrid StampCast basket, quick-release compression terminals, anodized aluminum cone, and Santoprene surround. An anodized aluminum voice coil former and spider venting help keep the subwoofer cool.

Dual 4Ω Voice Coils: The dual 4Ω voice coils offer wiring flexibility; when wired in parallel the woofer presents a 2Ω load, when wired in series the woofer presents an 8Ω load.

Compression Terminals: The P3D4-10 features spring post terminals which accommodate pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare speaker wire up to 10 gauge.

CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling on the P3D4-10 subwoofer conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards. This means the subwoofer has the capacity to handle power under continuous demand, not instantaneous power handling, that over time, can damage voice coils.

FlexFit Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

Trim Ring: To improve the cosmetic look, a decorative trim ring is included that mounts over the flange of the woofer. When using the cast aluminum trim ring the woofer is first mounted with four screws, then the ring is placed on top of the woofer, aligning the final four holes of the woofer with ring. The other four screws are used for these holes to mount the ring and woofer to the enclosure. Without the trim ring the mounting height of the woofer is just under an inch, with the trim ring it's approximately 1-1/16 inches. The diameter of the trim ring is approximately 11-1/4 inches.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Rockford recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 0.59 cubic feet (from 0.5 to 0.75 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: Rockford recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.4 cubic feet using one 4" diameter x 14" long port; this yields a tuning frequency of 40 Hz. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output (below 31 Hz).

Q
How do you wire the P3 p410 to 1ohm?

Greetings Marcus. Thank you for your question. If you meant the P3D4-10, it cannot be wired to 1ohm. Just 2 or 8.

Q
How do you wire the P3dD4-10 to 1ohm?
poloboi  Mar 10, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey Marcus, so if you are only running one of these subs, you cannot wire this particular one down to 1-ohm. It can only be wired to 2-ohm or 8-ohm based on the current configuration. You would actually need to get a dual 2-ohm voice coil variation of that sub if the end goal is wiring a single one down to that 1-ohm load. This here is the P3 you need to make that happen: https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rET1c402/p_5751P3D210/Rockford-Fosgate-P3D2-10.html?tp=111 Now if the goal was getting two of those P3D4 wired together down to 1-ohm that is also possible. Below is a handy sub wiring guide we offer and it will even show you how to wire up the particular configuration you are after: https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rET1c402/S-li5gU5SJRuN/learn/learningcenter/car/subwoofers_wiring.html

Q
I have a kicker cxa1200.1 how do I wore my p3d4 to get 600rms. The amp is 1200rms at 2ohms or 600@ 4?
rylan  Apr 20, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Rylan, and thank you for your question. Your subwoofer cannot be wired to 4 ohms. Its a dual voice coil 4 ohm, so it can either be wired to 2 ohms, or 8 ohms depending on how its wired, just not 4 ohm.

Q
I don't have a sub or an amp yet I am looking at the Rockford Fosgate P3D4-10 what amp would you recommend?

A
The Rockford Fosgate R2-500X1 would be a perfect power match for one of those Punch subwoofers. I will put a link to it down below. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_575R2500X1/Rockford-Fosgate-R2-500X1.html?tp=35834

Q
Want to run two of the Fosgate P3D4-10's wired to 1-ohm. Will the Fosgate Power T750X1BD amp be enough to power both of these running at 1 ohm?
mike  Jul 20, 2021
1 answer
A
The short answer is yes... but the subs will be underpowered by a collective 250 watts. Look for an amp that's bridgeable to 1 ohm but rated at 1000 watts rather than the 750 provided by the T750X1BD. Anything over 1000 watts at 1 ohm and you risk blowing the subs. You can thank me later =)

I run mine on a Rockford Marine 500 x1 amp and it does just fine. Good combo on my book.
troy  Mar 14, 2021
A
I don't know for sure, but the numbers match up really well and I've actually been planning on replacing my amp with the R2-500x1. I think it could possibly be a match made in heaven!
chris  Mar 13, 2021
A
I think that woffer would work good
rudy  Mar 13, 2021
A
If that amp is 1 ohm stable, get the D2 ohm. Clean 500 watts per sub will be fine. I have a SoundQubed 1200.1 on a pair at 1 ohm and they do well.
scott  Mar 13, 2021
A
If you are running one the yes, if you are running two then no. I have two of them and I have them on a skar audio 1200 and they are cheaper too.
james  Mar 13, 2021
A
Yes. It will do just fine on that sub. Run the dual 4 ohm sub in a 2 ohm load to the amp to get the full power rating of the amp.
jeremy  Mar 13, 2021
Q
Will two of these work with a Pioneer GM-D9601 mono block amp?
garrett  Feb 15, 2021
5 answers
A
Yes, but be careful. If the amp is bridged down to 1 ohm, you risk blowing the subs because the amp can produce 1200 watts at this resistance. The subs are only rated to handle 500 watts each, so you could potentially overpower each sub by 100 watts if they're bridged to 1 ohm load.
chris  Jul 21, 2021
A
I believe it will work as long as you wire it parallel.
joe  Feb 16, 2021
A
As long as amp has enough power anny can work. I have an audiopipe mono 1300 running mine. And that is more than enough power.
jeremy  Feb 16, 2021
A
Yes will work with the mono Amp. Make sure that you wire the Amp and speakers in a 4ohm load. Speakers come with a wiring diagram...
tertius  Feb 16, 2021
A
I think if you wired them to 2ohms you should be exactly where you need to be as far as power output. I noticed on the pioneer and if you bridge it down to 1 ohm it's putting out 2400 watts. These speakers are rated at 750 watts each I believe. I have mine paired up with the rockford fosgate amp. Those 2 put together really let the neighbors know when im home from a long run!

Q
I bought myself a P3D4-10 subwoofer and have it in a 10" sealed box with more than enought cubic feet inside. Its paired with a R500x1D RF amplifier on OFC 4 AWG wires, and the sub is wired down to a 2 ohm load. The sub all in all hits very hard, but doesn't pick up high frequencies very well. Should I take out my subwoofer and insulate the box, or would it be better to reconstruct a new box?
brendan  Jan 13, 2017
3 answers
A
If you have the means, take the technical specifications of the sub to someone who can build a box suited perfectly for this sub. I put this sub in a Sound Ordnance Bass Bunker with 0.87 cubic feet of space and stuffed it with that pillow filling stuff. It hit's plenty hard and the response is super tight.
chris  Jul 21, 2021
A
A ported box tuned to 40 hertz is what rockford fosgate recommends on their website. This would definitely increase output in higher frequencies that a sealed box.
andrew  Jun 14, 2020
A
Subwoofers in general are designed to produce low (bass) frequencies, and the 10" Rockford Fosgate P3D4 model is only capable of generating frequencies up to 250 Hz. If your system is lacking in mid-high frequency output, you may want to consider upgrading and/or adding an amplifier to your speakers. If you would like to discuss further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. I hope that helps!
