About the Rockford Fosgate T2500-1bdCP

Buck Pomerantz

Powerful bass performance

Power Series amplifiers actively monitor their speakers' performance using Rockford Fosgate's Constant Power technology. A speaker's impedance naturally fluctuates as it performs. So, just like your cruise control increases the engine's RPM to maintain your car's speed uphill, Constant Power maintains this amp's output by increasing its internal voltage and current when the speaker's impedance rises. This results in up to a 25% increase in the amp's total power output, especially in the crucial range below 50 Hz where a sub amp really has to shine.

Powerful bass performance

Rockford Fosgate enjoys a well-deserved reputation for building high-quality mobile audio products. Their Power Series amps sit at the top of the car audio food chain, with proven durability and proprietary technologies that deliver stronger, more reliable performance than most other amps on the planet today.

High-grade internal components mean high-power output.

Rugged construction, massive bass

Rockford Fosgate builds each Power Series mono amplifier with heavy-duty, state-of-the-art components. The award-winning Dynamic Thermal Management design manages the temperature of the internal components, distributing heat evenly for higher efficiency and lower distortion. The unique heat sink allows the heat to escape more readily so the high-power output transistors stay cooler and last longer.

2,500 watts of raging Rockford Fosgate power

The T2500-1bdCP mono sub amp uses an efficient Class bd design to deliver up to 2,500 watts to your subwoofer system. This amp can even drive a 1-ohm load, so you can get massive bass out of a wide variety of system designs. Competitors, you can tie two of these amps together to power a single sub system. The variable 24/dB per octave crossover creates a more natural sounding transition from your speakers to your subs. And the 2-year warranty tells you that Rockford Fosgate stands behind this bass behemoth.

Installation Note: This amplifier's power consumption is beyond the capacity of most automotive electrical systems. To power this amp, your vehicle may require an electrical upgrade that could include a high-output alternator, a Big 3 wiring upgrade, and a second battery.

Features

Overview: With its super efficient Class-BD circuit topology, the Rockford Fosgate T2500-1bd assures maximum power output. Due to its dedicated low frequency response, this amplifier is optimized for mid-bass speakers or subwoofers only. The amplifier is 1-ohm stable (2,500 watts x 1) and will drive a pair of 4-ohm DVC subwoofers or quad-configuration of 2-ohm DVC subwoofers with ease.

Class bd Design: Rockford Fosgate bd topology is a revolutionary patented design, integrating a technology that is more efficient than typical class AB and has lower distortion than class D designs. Punch bd amplifiers are 75-80% efficient vs. 20-60% efficient class ab amplifiers. This means, more power from your amplifier with less drain on your vehicles electrical and charging system.

Cast Aluminum Heatsink: The cast aluminum heatsink dissipates heat generated by the amplifier's circuitry. The inherent advantage of casting provides a 30% improvement of cooling over conventional extrusion heatsink designs.

Dynamic Thermal Management (DTM): DTM Evenly distributes excess heat across entire amplifier heatsink.

MEHSA3: MEHSA3 reduces MOSFET temperatures, lowers distortion, increases durability and prolongs the output device life span. MEHSA3 (Maximum Efficiency Heat Sink Application - gen. 3) is a proprietary process that yields up to five times better heat transfer than traditional FET mounting techniques, using the exact same components. A multi-layer insulated metal substrate operating with minimal thermal resistance spreads heat both downward and outward to quickly dissipate heat from each device across the heatsink. This process combined with Rockford's optimized heatsink designs, DSM (Discrete Surface Mount) technology and MOSFET devices, allows the amplifier to squeeze more watts per cubic inch from every output device as well as provide consistent thermal stability. The 3rd generation creates a dielectric layer between the ceramic topside and the aluminum base that retains all of the electrical isolation and capacitive coupling of the original MEHSA material increasing it's thermal conductivity. The higher power handling results in a 20% reduction in thermal impedance.

DSM (Discrete Surface Mount): DSM utilize 1% tight-tolerances improving efficiency of the circuit, decreases cross-talk from other discrete components and lowers operating temperature. An industry-leading manufacturing process, DSM utilizes high-speed robotics, high-quality 1% tight-tolerance parts and large board traces. The discrete components are laser etched to meet a particular value and a very low tolerance. This lower tolerance improves the efficiency of the circuit, decreases cross-talk from other discrete components and lowers operating temperature.

TO-247 MOSFETs: The Rockford Fosgate amplifier use custom TO-247 MOSFETs. These have 60% more metal tab area for more power capacity, lower impedance and improved heat dissipation over traditional TO-220 MOSFETs found in many other amplifier. The MOSFET transistor is the best type of device to use when building a high quality mobile amplifier. The TO-247 has 60% more metal tab area and its unique, fully encapsulated design is capable of housing a silicon die (the heart of the MOSFET) twice as large as the TO-220. The larger die provides more power handling capacity. Additionally, the extra metal tab area ensures that no matter what size silicon die is inside, the thermal impedance will always be lower than in the TO-220 due to improved heat dissipation.

Power and Protection LEDs: The LEDs are located on top of the amplifier. A blue Power LED illuminates when the amplifier is turned on. A red Thermal LED illuminates if the amplifier overheats. The yellow Protect LED illuminates if a short circuit or too low an impedance is detected at the speaker connections. When any of the protection circuits engage, the amp automatically shuts down until the problem is corrected.

Controls

Mode Switch: This function is used to set the amplifier between single amplifier use, and Master or Save for when connecting multiple bd amplifiers together. The first amplifier in the series should be set to Master and the subsequent amplifiers set to Slave. This allows one gain, crossover, infrasonic filter, and bass boost setting for all daisy-chained amplifiers.

Internal Crossover: The amplifier's internal crossover has a 24 dB/octave slope. The crossover point is variable from 35Hz to 250Hz.

Punch EQ: Punch EQ acts as a variable bass boost; 0-18 dB at 45 Hz.

Infrasonic Filter: The infrasonic high pass filter is designed to prevent frequencies below the audible range from being applied to the subwoofer from the amplifier, consequently improving subwoofer performance and power handling, particularly in vented enclosures. The crossover point is fixed at 28 Hz, the slope is 12 dB/octave, and the filter can be turned on or off to suit your preference.

Phase Switch: This feature is used when bridging two bd amplifiers together using a bd Sync cable (sold separately) to phase one amplifier 180-degrees from the other when driving a common load.

Connections

Power Connections: The power and ground connections are nickel-plated set-screw wire terminals and will accommodate up to 1/0-gauge wire. An external 300-amp fuse (not included) must be installed on the power wire. The remote turn-on terminal will accept wire sizes up to 8-gauge. The supplied hex-key is required to tighten/loosen the terminals.

Speaker Connections: The nickel-plated set-screw speaker terminals will accept wire sizes from 16 to 8-gauge.The included hex-key is required to tighten/loosen the terminals.

Note: Although there are two sets of speaker terminals, the amplifier still produces a monaural signal. The A and B speaker outputs are internally wired in parallel.

Differential Input RCA Inputs: The amplifier features a pair of differential RCA input jacks for easy connection of signal level input. Differential input circuitry measures the voltage of both the positive (+) and negative (-) portions of the input signal, subtracting the voltage common to both conductors (noise); resulting in a cleaner signal. Reducing the noise on the input then improves the sound quality of the output. The RCA input jacks are nickel-plated to resist signal degradation caused by corrosion.

RCA Outputs: The amplifier also features a pair of RCA "Pass-Thru" jacks which provide a convenient source for daisy-chaining an additional amplifier without running an extra set of RCA cables from the front of the vehicle to the rear amplifier location. The RCA output jacks are nickel-plated to resist signal degradation caused by corrosion.

Remote Punch EQ (PEQ) Connection: An RJ-45 jack is provided for connecting an optional remote PEQ control (sold separately). If you use the remote PEQ, the Punch EQ control on the amp is disabled, and replaced by the remote.

Note: Previous model Punch Bass and Para-Punch remotes will not work with this amp.

bd Sync Connection: This amplifier has a proprietary 6-pin mini-DIN connector. When operating two of these amplifiers together in a bridged mode, a bd Sync cable (sold separately) must be used. This will allow the two independent frequency carrier generators in each unit to be synchronized.

Q
What is the best amp that will push my 2-15 inch kicker Q-class speakers?
wezel  Mar 23, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey Steven, so we will need to know if the impedance of your Kickers as those were offered in either single 2-ohm voice coils which means we can be wired together at a 1-ohm impedance or a dual 2-ohm voice coil which means the end impedance would be 2-ohm. That being said, there are some amps that have the same power output at 1 and 2-ohm and this Rockford Fosgate is one of the better options out there but the power output overall is pushing a bit more than what the Kickers are rated for so I would not really recommend this one. The best alternative would be Kickers matching amp for those subs: https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rET1c402/p_20646CX18T/Kicker-46CXA1800-1T.html?tp=115

Q
Is the led in this amp also a clip light?
chris  Dec 16, 2023
1 answer
A
The top panel LEDs simulate VU meters to display the real-time output of the amplifier, Chris. This scale is from - 00 (infinity) to +2dB. During normal operation the indicator should not reach +2dB, as this would indicate clipping.

Q
I want to buy 1 orion hcca 2500 watt rms 15" 4 ohm sub to be powered by this amp, is this speaker enough or should buy something with a little more watts rms?
cruzinbuy  Sep 25, 2023
1 answer
A
I think that would be good choice, Ron. If the single Orion 15" 4-ohm subwoofer can handle 2500-watts, it will have no issues with the 4-ohm power on the Rockford Fosgate T2500-1bdCP. These amps usually deliver more power than rated, they are absolute monsters! You will get a certificate with the exact numbers from Rockford Fosgate. 4-ohm power numbers are rated on paper at 1500-watts RMS, that is going to sound really good with a single 15" and leave plenty of RMS headroom on your speaker so you can have a nice reliable setup. Make sure you run a beefy wiring kit like the Rockford Fosgate RFK1 1/0 in the link below! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_575RFK1/Rockford-Fosgate-RFK1.html

Q
Is the Rockford Fosgate T2500-bdCP strong enough to run the Rockford Fosgate T2S2-13 subwoofer?
ezra  Apr 01, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Ezra, and thank you for your question. Actually the T2500-1bdCP amplifier has more power than the T2S2-13 is rated for. The will do the 2500 watts at 2 ohms, the T2S2-13 is rated for just 2000.
hogan  Apr 01, 2023 (Staff)
Q
can you run 2 t2s1 13 inch subs on this amp? I wanted to buy two but the retailer at andres said I only needed to buy 1 for two 2000watt rms subs? I tried to tell him i needed two but he insists.
allan  Nov 15, 2020
1 answer
A
We recommend giving subwoofers at least 70% of the top RMS power that they can handle. It can be more but should be at least this amount. 70% of the RMS watts for two of those subwoofers comes to 2800 watts RMS. This amp is likely to output that power or more (refer to the Certificate of Performance that comes included with the amp) and can work with them. Now, those two subs won't be giving the hardest hitting bass they can, but will be giving clean bass with this power.
