Specifications Note

Woofer

3-Layer Glass Fiber Composite Cone: The first layer of the cone is woven together with threads of spun glass, the second layer arranges the glass material into a honeycomb design, and the third layer is exactly like the first. The woofer cones feature a curved geometry that permits a flat response across a wide bandwidth. The composite construction produces cones that are strong, light and have high internal damping to provide awesome life-like sound reproduction.

Rubber Surround: Each woofer is made with a rubber surround that withstands the extremes of the automotive environment. The rubber surround improves sound quality by reducing 2nd and 3rd order harmonics, and it provides wider frequency response.

Flat Spider: The spider has the job of centering the voice coil and providing the rear suspension for the speaker. The Fanatic Q Component system woofers use a flat spider to ensure great sound with long life and durability.

Voice Coil: The 1.25"  voice coils are wound on an anodized aluminum former for more efficient heat dissipation. This helps ensure durability and high power handling.

Proprietary Cast ABS Basket: The proprietary molded ABS basket helps eliminate destructive resonance frequencies while providing a light, rigid foundation for the midrange woofer.  The reduction of destructive  resonance frequencies helps minimize coloration of the reproduced sound.

Vented Pole Piece: The pole piece extends from the back of the speaker into the voice coil area. The Fanatic Q woofers are made with a vented pole piece so that air may circulate in the voice coil gap. Air circulating in the voice coil gap helps dissipate heat and results in greater power handling and increased reliability.

Aero-port Voice Coil Cooling: The woofers feature a vented pole piece and a rounded edge vent opening. The rounded edge of the vent opening reduces "huffing" noises caused during extreme cone excursions. The vent allows more efficient cooling of the voice coil and increases power handling. 

Tweeter Bridge Grilles and Standard Grilles: This component set comes with two standard-type grilles and grille rings and two "tweeter bridge" grilles and grille rings. Each tweeter bridge grille is made with a cutout that accepts the tweeter bridge of the special grill rings. When the tweeters are mounted in the tweeter bridges, they are positioned in front of the woofers in a coaxial configuration. The tweeter bridge grilles and grille rings allow you to put the great sound of this component system in a vehicle you would prefer not to modify to accept the other tweeter mounts included with this system. The tweeters may be swiveled  in the tweeter bridges to achieve the best imaging and response.  The height of a tweeter bridge grille and grille ring with a tweeter installed is 1.035", and the height of a standard grille is 0.73"; the diameter of all four grilles is 5.4".

Tweeter

3/4" Aluminum Dome with Silk Surround: Each tweeter has an aluminum dome with a silk surround. This combines the low mass and strength of aluminum with the smoothness of silk for the ultimate in high frequency reproduction. 

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters may be flush, surface, "wedge" or tweeter bridge mounted; for more info on tweeter bridge mounting, see "Tweeter Bridge Grilles and Standard Grilles" at the bottom of the woofer information section. The tweeters swivel inside the flush, surface and tweeter bridge sockets, but they cannot be swiveled in the "wedge mount" sockets.  The "wedge mount" sockets are surface mounts that hold the tweeters at a fixed angle (may be mounted to provide a 15 or 60 degree angle). The tweeters must be installed using one of the four sockets.

Note: The tweeters come installed in the flush mount sockets. To remove the tweeter from the socket, turn the back plate of the socket counterclockwise, then lift the back plate away from the socket to access the tweeter.

Crossover

Competition Quality 2-Way Butterworth Crossovers: The crossovers feature a 24dB/octave, 4kHz high-pass network for the tweeters and a 12dB/octave, 4kHz low-pass network for the woofers. The steep slope of the high-pass network allows the tweeters to handle greater power, while the low-pass network provides for a seamless transition between the tweeter and woofer.

Optical Compression Tweeter Protection:  This built-in protection circuit includes two incandescent bulbs (visible through the clear crossover cover) and limits power to the tweeter when the "danger" threshold is exceeded. This method of protection is inaudible because the circuit simply limits power and does not shut the tweeter off. The bulbs are user replaceable.

Selectable 0dB/-3dB/-6dB Tweeter Output Level: There is a jumper pad located on the crossover circuit board that allows the user to select full output level (0dB) or attenuated (-3dB or -6dB) tweeter operation. This allows you to match the tweeter output level with the woofer output level for balanced response. Typically, when the tweeter and woofer are mounted so they are about the same distance from the listener's ears, the jumper is left in the 0dB position. When the tweeter location is much closer to the listener's ears than the woofer's location, the jumper should be set to the -3dB or -6dB position.

Tweeter Phase Switch: This 0-degree/180-degree switch allows easy comparison of tweeter phase without the need to disconnect speaker wires. The switch should be set in the position that produces the best response.

Crossover Components: The crossovers a built with air core inductors, ferrite core inductors and high-end, "low-loss" mylar capacitors to maintain maximum sound quality. 

Inputs/Outputs: The crossover inputs and outputs are gold plated screw terminals. The terminals are gold plated to prevent performance robbing corrosion.

Mounting: There are 3 mounting holes in the base of each crossover.

Specifications Note

Sensitivity: The manual lists separate sensitivity specs for the woofer (85.9dB) and tweeter (91dB). The sensitivity figure listed in the Crutchfield database is the average of the two individual sensitivity specifications. The average sensitivity (88.45dB) is given  because it more accurately represents the overall sensitivity of the system; this permits a better estimation of the power needed for clean, high volume output.
