Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Put these in my 305 Sunbridge. Have a 100 watt amp pushing these and they sound GREAT even without a sub. They are a big speaker so make sure you have the room for them.$$$$$ but worth the $. Highly recommended.

Pros: Sound as good as they look

Cons: none

Excellent Upgrade

Written by: Brian from Minneapolis, MN on July 1, 2013

We had some off brand 6" speakers in our boat that I replaced with these. I got the M400-4D amp too, and it was a huge improvement. The whole boat vibrates when the base hits. The lows aren't as deep as a sub just because they are running the mid ranges too, but they still hit pretty hard. The high ends are great too. Its pretty easy to drown out a nearby boat if they aren't running a multi-speaker tower mounted system. Definitely worth the money and happy with the upgrade.

Pros: Easy install, sound great. Grill is thick don't feel like I'll kick them in (they're mounted below the steering column and passenger glove box).

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just finished installing these speakers. I had the 6" kickers that I purchased less than a year ago. I had one RF and one Kicker installed. NO comparsion the RF blow the Kickers away. They are worth the money. These speakers are SEALED tight. They were easy to install and they look great. Thank you Crutchfield!!!

Most bang for your buck

I have been around car audio for almost 2 decades now and I can say I have never seen a pair of speakers put out such a full range of sound as these M282s. That is comparing them to high dollar JLs and MB Quartz. From deep bass to crystal clear highs. I have my low pass cross over set to 70 hz on the head unit and with the M400 amp it plays more than loud enough. I have them set up in the side panels of the boat, not in the wake tower but can imagine they would do well there too. I was contemplating a sub in the boat but it is not needed!! Im going to get another pair instead. The 8" woofers are very impressive and people ask me where I have the subs hidden in the boat! We listen to classic rock, hard rock, reggae, country, hip hop and even some techno. These speakers do it all. Too soon to tell how they hold up to moisture but mine are protected fairly well and they are our of direct sunlight to keep them cool. These speakers are LARGE! Make sure you have the room you need! They fit fairly deep and take up a good amount of surface area. Check your measurements!

Pros: They look and feel very sturdy. Someone described them as looking "surgical grade" because of how clean they appear and sound. Enough bass I personally do not need to take up room on my boat with a sub and another amp + the extra battery that comes with that whole setup. Full spectrum of sound and clear even with the volume knob maxed out, which honestly only happened during initial adjusting- they are that loud...

Cons: So far I have not noticed anything negative.

Best speaker for your money!!

These are some of the best marine speakers money can buy. They are crystal clear. I have a 110 watt RMS amp and I can turn the gain up 100% with no distortion. I would choose these over 100 watt RMS JL Audio speakers.

Pros: Looks and Sound

Cons: There is nothing bad about these speakers.

Product Research

Marine Tested: Rockford Fosgate uses industry standard tests (ASTM B117 salt/fog and ASTM D4329 sunlight, moisture, and heat) to ensure the M282 speakers will provide optimum performance in the difficult marine environment.

Woofers: The woofer cones are injection molded, mineral filled polypropylene with UV inhibitors. This molding process assures a uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. It is also light weight and rigid for decreased distortion and improved bass response.

TPE Surrounds: The TPE surrounds (Thermo-Plastic Elastomer, a synthetic rubber) are UV and salt/fog resistant.

Tweeters: The speakers feature 1" aluminum alloy dome tweeters. The tweeters are bridge mounted, useful in a marine speaker because no opening through the middle of the woofer for the mounting post is needed. The tweeter features a stainless steel grille and is UV and moisture resistant.

ICC Crossover: The ICC (Integrated Concealed Crossover) simplifies installation and protects the crossover by concealing it inside the basket, creating a cleaner look and easier installation. The crossover is 12 dB/octave high pass, 6 dB/octave low pass, and has an integrated tweeter protection circuit.

Polymer Basket: The Centrex, UV-resistant polymer baskets protect the speakers' internal components from the marine environment.

Infinite-Baffle Operation: The speakers are designed for infinite-baffle operation and can be installed in a variety of locations, without the need for a dedicated enclosure.

VAST Surround: The Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) increases a speaker's effective radiating cone area without increasing the size of the basket.

FlexFit Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

Speaker Terminals: These speaker terminals are gold plated for corrosion resistance. There is a spare set of terminals for easily adding a second pair of speakers (optional, sold separately).

Magnetic Shielding: The motor structure is fully shielded to minimize their effect on your boat's compass and autopilot functions.

Stainless Steel: The grille and mounting hardware are stainless steel to resist corrosion.
