Rockford Fosgate M282-WAKE

Overview

Our take on the Rockford Fosgate M282-WAKE

There's a lot more to building a great wakeboard tower speaker than slapping a woofer and a tweeter into a can. Rockford Fosgate's M282-WAKE wakeboard tower speakers employ high-quality 8" drivers, marine-grade enclosures, and innovative technologies to make sound everyone can enjoy — whether they're in the boat or at the end of the tow rope.

Sound that will conquer the open water

Built-tough enclosures

Each rugged UV-, moisture-, and salt-resistant speaker in this system is housed in a high-density polyethylene enclosure sporting a stylish stainless steel grille. For unlimited mounting flexibility, each enclosure features a variable diameter, cast-aluminum C-Clamp that you can rotate 360 degrees, directing the sound in the direction you want. Your speaker wire is routed through the mounting tube and bracket for a clean, "no wires" look. And these enclosures meet tough UV and Salt-Fog industry standards so they'll hold up for many seasons on the water.

Innovative technology for better bass

Rockford Fosgate employs their Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) to significantly increase the woofers' effective cone area. The bridge-mounted aluminum dome tweeter allows the oversized woofer to travel freely, so you'll enjoy bigger sound and better bass than comparably sized wakeboard tower speakers.

I installed these in my MB B52. It has great sound, very crisp, riders can hear music while out wake boarding or tubing

Sound AWESOME!!

These 8" speakers are amazing!! I have a full Rockford system installed and wanted some speakers to throw sound outside the boat for people swimming, etc. and these are a great solution. I have a Cobalt 262 which doesn't have a wakeboard tower so I had them installed on the fiberglass top rail at the back of the boat near the hole for the Stern Light. With the brackets taken apart they are easily mountable to any flat surface and the speakers hook-up with the factory plug and then you tighten down the set screw which takes 15 seconds in total. Now you have a speaker that swivels to face into the boat or outside the boat which is a full 360 degrees and I take them down when not in use. I took them out for the first time this weekend for Memorial weekend and got lots of comments on what a great idea this was, this is a GREAT solution for those of us who don't have wakeboard towers but want the sound outside the boat as well as inside the boat. If you still can't picture the installation just imagine looking at the boat from the back and you see 2 speakers mounted, 1 on each side of the boat, on the flat surface near the location that the night time Stern light plugs into the boat. I will post a picture if I take one, if you use these for hanging them from the wakeboard tower they will rock there too!! VERY crisp and CLEAN sound from the 8" and 1" tweeter which is basically a component speaker all in one enclosure. Nothing comes close for the money...or for more money!!!

Pros: Marine Grade Enclosure so no worrying about exposure to water or other elements, good crisp and clean sound, sturdy construction, pleasing to look at as well as hear, very versatile, factory plugs to easily disconnect when not in use is a HUGE benefit, can be purchased for well below MSRP but make sure you get them from an authorized dealer so you have a warranty!!

Cons: none so far!! Note that I had other Rockford Fosgate Marine speakers installed last year and they get just as good of a review so even though these are new I have others that are almost a year old and I run them HARD and they hold up very well!!

Features

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate M282-Wake wakeboard tower speaker system contains two sealed enclosures made of high density poly-ethylene, each housing one 8" woofer and one 1" tweeter. They are designed to attach to your boat's wakeboard tower using the included hardware. Both the speakers and enclosures are treated with UV inhibitors and conform to UV and Salt-Fog industry standards.

Drivers: The 8" woofers use injection molded, mineral filled polypropylene cones and TPE (Thermo-Plastic Elastomer) surrounds. This molding process assures a uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. It is also light weight and rigid for decreased distortion and improved bass response. The 1" aluminum dome tweeters are bridge mounted, useful in a marine speaker because no opening through the middle of the woofer for the mounting post is needed.

Mounting: The M282-Wake speakers use adjustable cast aluminum mounting clamps, designed to fit wakeboard tower tubes from 1-1/2" to 2-3/4" diameter. Once the speakers are in place, but before the brackets are tightened, you can adjust the mounting angle. After mounting, the speakers can still swivel almost 360°.

ICC Crossover: The ICC (Integrated Concealed Crossover) protects the crossover by concealing it inside the basket. The crossover is 12 dB/octave high pass, 6 dB/octave low pass, and has an integrated tweeter protection circuit.
