Power four speakers, plus a sub

The M600-5 amp features four Class A/B full-range channels delivering 50 watts RMS each, plus a dedicated subwoofer channel which uses ultra-efficient Class D technology to send up to 300 watts to your subs.

This 5-channel workhorse can power two sets of speakers and a sub in your boat. You can also bridge the front and rear channels together and power a set of high-performance marine component speakers with 150 watts per channel, and still have 300 watts left for your sub.

The M600-5 features an extensive array of variable frequency filters, so you can adjust the amp's output to suit your system. And the compact footprint makes it easy to mount the amp in a small storage locker or other tight spot.

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate Prime Marine M600-5 is a 5-channel hybrid amplifier; 4-channel full-range Class A/B and a Class D subwoofer channel. The front and rear channels are bridgeable, so it can be wired for 5-channel, 4-channel, or 3-channel operation. The M600-5's conformal-coated PCB is designed for the harsh marine environment.

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement methods for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for determining an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured from 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers) into a 4Ω load with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4Ω. CEA-2006 allows consumers to compare amplifiers and receivers on an equal basis. The CEA-2006-rated RMS power output is as follows:

  • Full Range Channels: 50 watts x 4
  • Subwoofer Channel: 200 watts x 1
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 80 dBA

Specifications: Additional specifications given in the manual include:

  • Power into 2Ω:
    • Full Range Channels: 75 watts x 4
    • Subwoofer Channel: 300 watts x 1
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 100 dB (at rated power output)

LED Indicator: The amplifier is equipped with a top-mounted LED that illuminates blue when the unit is turned on. The LED illuminates red when a protection circuit engages (overheating, short circuit or too low an impedance detected at the speaker connections). The amplifier automatically turns off if this occurs.

Mounting: The amplifier can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or inverted using the supplied mounting screws; horizontal mounting (right side up) will provide the best cooling.

Controls

Independent Controls: The front, rear, and subwoofer channels have independent controls for input gain, crossover, and Punch EQ (bass boost).

Gain Control: The amplifier has three rotary gain controls (labeled 0 to 11) for the front, rear, and subwoofer channels.

Crossovers:

  • Front and Rear:
    • Mode: three position switch; low-pass, high pass, or all-pass (full range)
    • Frequency: rotary dial; continuously variable from 50-250 Hz; 12 dB/octave slope
  • Subwoofer: the subwoofer channel's low-pass crossover is always engaged
    • Frequency: rotary dial; continuously variable from 50-250 Hz; 12 dB/octave slope

Punch EQ: The Punch EQ (bass boost) is centered at 45 Hz:

  • Front and Rear: active when the crossover is set to low-pass; three position switch; 0 dB (flat), +6 dB, and +12 dB
  • Subwoofer: rotary dial; continuously variable from 0-12 dB

Phase: The subwoofer amp has a 2-position phase switch, allowing you to easily reverse the output phase of the amplifier, choose 0° or 180° to match the rest of your vehicle's speaker system.

Input Switch:

  • 2-CH: when using only the front inputs
  • 4-CH: when using the front and rear inputs
  • 5-CH: when using the front, rear, and sub inputs

Remote Punch Level Control: The amplifier includes a wired Remote Punch Level Control, linked to subwoofer channel, allowing you to remotely control the output level of the subwoofer. The remote has a rotary dial and includes mounting hardware and a 16-1/2' cable.

Remote Dimensions:

  • Width: 1.7" (2.625" including mounting flange)
  • Height: 0.76"
  • Depth: 1.58" (2.25" including knob and cable)
Connections

Power Terminals: The power and ground connections are nickel-plated set screw terminals and will accommodate up to 4 gauge power and ground wires. The set screws are tightened/loosened with the supplied 3mm Allen wrench.

Fuse: The Amplifier is not equipped with a fuse. An external 80-amp fuse (not included) must be installed on the power wire at the battery. If a wiring kit is used which includes a fuse with a value other than 80-amps, the original should be replaced with a 80-amp fuse.

Remote Terminal: The remote turn-on connection is a nickel-plated set screw terminal that will accommodate up to an 8 gauge wire. It's used to remotely turn the amplifier on and off. The set screw is tightened/loosened with the supplied 3mm Allen wrench.

Speaker Terminals: The five pair of speaker outputs are nickel-plated set screw terminals what will accommodate up to 8 gauge speaker wire. The set screws are tightened/loosened with the supplied 3mm Allen wrench.

RCA Input Jacks: Front, rear, and subwoofer RCA input jacks provide an easy connection for preamp level inputs. They are nickel-plated to resist signal degradation caused by corrosion.

Speaker Level Input: Two speaker level input harnesses are included, making it easier to add the amplifier to a factory radio or to a receiver with no preamp outputs.

Wired Remote: An RJ-25 jack is used with the included Remote Punch Level Control.
