Priced per speaker

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Woofer: The cone is constructed of molded polypropylene. Polypropylene is lightweight and strong, giving the woofer high power handling and low distortion.

High Excursion Large Roll Surround: A large edge roll surround allows Punch woofers to produce 20% more linear excursion than standard surrounds, resulting in more bass output.

Parabolic Triangular Cone Geometry Support System: By bonding a polypropylene parabolic dust cap of equivalent size to the cone body, a balanced triangular structure is created. This system reduces piston flex and eliminates cone distortion.

Linear Spider: A compliant linear spider improves mechanical stability under high excursion, maintaining consistent excursion characteristics. This eliminates the need for a "break-in period."

Spider Support Ring: This integrated ring increases the bonding surface area between the voice coil former and spider, establishing a stronger joint. The result is increased mechanical power handling under high power/high excursion situations.

Anodized Aluminum Voice Coil Former: Aluminum voice coil formers offer superior heat dissipation over other commonly used materials. The hard-anodized finish increases the former's strength. These two factors combine to improve the overall power handling characteristics of the subwoofer.

Precision Stamped CRS Basket: Reinforced cold roll steel basket legs dampen unwanted resonance for better bass coupling.

Removable Magnet Cover: The cosmetic magnet cover can be removed when additional mounting clearance is required. With the magnet cover installed, the woofer has the following dimensions:

  • Magnet Diameter: 6.976"
  • Depth as top: 5.258"

Spring Posts: The heavy-duty spring posts will accept pin connectors and bare wire.

Concealing Ring: Once the subwoofer is mounted, the concealing ring can be installed to hide the mounting screws, giving the subwoofer a finished look. When mounted, the concealing ring adds approximately 3/8" to the woofer's mounting height and approximately 5/8" to the frame diameter.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Rockford Fosgate range from 0.5 cu/ft to 1.0 cu/ft. Within this range, the ideal size recommended by Rockford Fosgate is 0.65 cu/ft, so this is the enclosure recommended by Crutchfield.

Recommended Vented Box Volume: The vented box sizes recommended by Rockford Fosgate range from 1.0 cu/ft to 1.5 cu/ft. Within this range, the ideal size recommended by Rockford Fosgate is 1.25 cu/ft, so this is the enclosure recommended by Crutchfield. One 3" diameter x 7.3" long port should be used with a 1.25 cu/ft enclosure.

Recommended Single Reflex Bandpass Volume: Rockford Fosgate's enclosure chart lists three compatible bandpass enclosures. The highlighted bandpass enclosure has a sealed chamber volume of 0.65 cu/ft, a vented chamber volume of 0.65 cu/ft and a single 3" diameter x 11" long port. The smallest recommended enclosure has a sealed chamber volume of 0.5 cu/ft, a vented chamber volume of 0.45 cu/ft and a single 3" diameter x 12.75" long port. The largest recommended enclosure has a sealed chamber volume of 0.75 cu/ft, a vented chamber volume of 0.90 cu/ft and a single 3" diameter x 9.25" long port.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Coming from a long line of full compatition systems i decied to try to stuff 4 of the P1's into my reglar cab F150. With a sony XM-D9001 GTR powering them. at 4ohms rms 550. I have had some pretty decent luck with these other than 3 blowing with in the first 3 weeks of having them..2 weeks waiting on the boxes to be built. For the price i paid i am happy and with Crutchfields customer Service being so helpful it really makes it worth it.

Best Buy For The Buck

Rockford makes aguably the best subs on the market. I have this p1 in my regular cab F-150 with a performance box hooked up to a 350 watt bridged Kenwood amp. and it hits extremely well and is very clean. It covers both the highs and lows. This is a very good buy for the buck.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was raised in Miami so my boys always talked about Rockford and how they pound. I was never really a car guy but when I jumped in my homeboys '94 Chevy S10 I almost fell asleep when them lows hit bottom. He had 2 10" P2's powered by a P8002. But the Bass control was only half way up. I fell in love.

I just bought 2 10" P1 with a P4002. I dropped them in a '97 Volvo 850. It's just enough for that car. Especially since last week I put an Alpine CDA-9820XM with 2 5", 2 6 1/4", and 2 5"x7" Polk Audio speakers. All together it souund really nice and clean. My Favorite CD's to thump to are by DJ Laz out of Miami.

My wife has a '99 Mitsubishi Diamante that has twice
the trunk space and she said I can play with whatever I want to drop in it. Can I say that that is the best gift a girl can give.

Alot of thump for the money.

Title says it all. Running one of these in a .65 cu/ft custom enclosure fed by a 150w RMS Pioneer amp. Won't blow out the glass but you wouldn't be looking at a 300w peak power 10" if that was what you're after.

okay. .

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

bought 4 of these, with two, p3001's powering a pair in my blazer. They're okay, I think my old set-up of 2 kenwood 12's pounded harder. and 2 weeks after I finally pieced my set up one of the 10's messed up, made this buzzing, gurgling sound so I could never really have the system to it's potential, but crutchfield is cool and so I'm sending it in but it's such a hassle.

I guess if you want a system where people can hear you a ways get a pair of 15's, even the cheap P1 15's hit reaaall hard.

the 4 10's deliver a crisp sound, but sometimes I wouldn't mind people hearing me from a ways.

But now I'm selling a pair and then purchasing a 15'' so I can have the best of both worlds, 2 10's and a 15.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently bought this woofer to add a good bass presence in my system. It did the trick. I combined it with a 400W amp to reduce the strain on the amp itself, and it works beautifully. It not only added the bass presence I was looking for, but it blows away the competition.

Great thump for the dollar

Written By Anonymous, Council Bluffs, Ia on Tuesday, July 11, 2006

I've had a lot of subs in my lifetime, from pioneers, to earthquakes. I used to only use 15" subs but when I bought my 2001 2 door Blazer I wanted to keep some cargo space. I bought 2 of these Rockford 10's and a Profile 1200 amp. (Obviously I went the cheap route on my system). I built the sealed box myself according to Rockfords' recommended specs. These subs pound hard for 10's! My friends can't believe how little space the box and all takes up for the amount of bass pouring out of my ride! And I love the fact that my system sounds better then theirs... especially when they've spent hundreds of dollars more! Great buy, would recommend these subs to anyone!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I think these subs are perfect for someone who is just looking to fill in some missing lows and doesnt want to spend much money. They will play real low and the sound quality is decent. They are made quite well for the price. The problem I had with them was the lack of volume. I'm sure in a ported enclosure it would of helped some but I could tell either way I wanted much more so I returned them in exchange for a kicker compvr 12" box and now I'm smiling. Like I said, for the price they are good but if you want some serious shake these arent for you.

yeah, i drive an older chrysler cirrus and i have a decent sound system in place, but i needed that thump, so i bought a new pioneer head unit wit sub control and i decided to go out and buy subs. i decided to research, and i know that rockford fosgate owns the subwoofer industy, so i bought two 10' punch stage 1s. They nrun from a sony xplod amp and they knock...hard. I put my friends 12 inch audobahns in and they dont even compare, these lil subs pack serious punchhhh

They're sitting in the trunk of my 85 cutlass ciera...and the whole car vibrates. I love it. If you are new to the bass game and want quality subs for a godd price...two of these is the way to go.

Written By mrkarisma2, Lancaster, PA on Wednesday, September 07, 2005

I just got 2 Punch-1 10" subs about a month ago and They sound great! I had 2 10" JBL subs for the past 5 years, and they sounded very good, but these Rockfords play louder and go deeper than the JBLs ever could. They literally sound like a set of 12" subs in my trunk, not 10s...a lot of people think they are hearing 12" subs.

No store was offering them anywhere near this price. As long as you have a nice amp to run 'em, you're in business. Rockfords are the truth son!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought 2 of these subs ($99/ pair) and 2 of the RF 201s amps my original plan was to run an amp to each sub. I got a MTX thunderform for my 2000 Explorer and installed one of these with 1 amp bridged the amp ran a little warm and was running at about 1/3 of the power. I later installed the second sub and unbridged the amp turned it up about half way and tweaked my deck alittle and now the sound is great. All my freinds can't beleive it is a set of base line subs when they here the bass drop for the first time. I used to roll around with a set of 12's and they pounded nice as well i would say the only difference in sound quality from my 12" kenwood DB Dual voice coil speakers to my current 10" fosgates is that the car doesn't rattle at all now and you can barely hear it outside of the car if the doors/windows are all up. the sound and feel of the bass inside is the same to me though at a fraction of the price......

Worth it?

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I brought 6 of these woofers, with 3 punch 1 amps, and as for the knock, they knock hard, I've been pushing them for about 4 months, with a custom box we built for them to fit the back of my Infiniti QX4. The overall process came out better then we expected, plus with a good look. For the price of the speakers you can't beat the noise it makes. Your ears will continue to ring once you leave the car. I've already be offered to change everything out by a shop so they could sponser me with JL....But if your not looking to spend much, and have the proper setup you will not be disappointed by these Subs.

I bought two 10 inch punch stage 1 subs. I made some custom sealed truck boxes. I wired the subs in parallel to my 222 watt sony amp. They sound really good considering the low wattage on the amp. I am about to make a new box for them to put in my volvo. The only thing wrong with the speakers is that the back of my truck's seat rubbed against the rubber surround (next to the cone). Other than that, they are great speakers

These subs are great. Just like a few other people have said they might work better if you have two and wire them parallel. I have them hooked up to a RF P3002 which is a 2-channel amp but bridged at 300 watts so there is the recommended amount going to each. I have them in a specially desgined ported box a little like the newer RF ported box they came out with. I listen to mostly rap and have been followed by the cops for the past few months for noise ordinance violations. These things hit like no other and are well worth the money. If you want some thump from the low end, then there really is no other sub out there for this price and performance.

I recently bought two of these subs this past summer and hooked them up to a rockford fosgate 301M amp which is pushing 300 watts rms to 4 ohms....this is only a 1 channel amp so i bridged the two subs.....giving them the exact rms rating possible...150watts rms to each sub....i put them both in a sealed 3/4 inch thick MDF box these subs definetly need to be in a sealed box....the box is 14 inches deep by 12 high and i think 24 wide.....this is a perfect box for these subs....the bass is outstanding and my amp is currently on the highest level but does not even begin to warm the amp....the first amp blew bc of defects but rockford replaced it and it works just fine now...pushing both subs without a problem the subs sound great....the bass is truly remarkable....i would recommend or buy these subs again...to you who gave this sub a low rating..these subs r very good and u must not know how to setup ur hookup its all in the setup i have a 10 guage kit which is only giving me 250 watts rms to the sub also which im not getting complete power and its outstanding people who ride in my car think i have atleast 2 12 inch subs...or 1 12 inch competition sub...i would recommend these to anyone....and they r outstanding subs...

SOUNDS ALRIGHT, BUT DOES NOT LAST!

Written By JMR, Tucson, AZ on Sunday, March 27, 2005

I INSTALLED ONE 10" RF P1 INTO MY WIFE'S CAR IN A SEALED QLOGIC ENCLOSURE. IT LASTED LESS THAN 2 WEEKS BEFORE IT BROKE. IT CRACKED AROUND THE EDGE OF THE PLASTIC CONE WHERE IT MEETS THE SURROUND, WHILE LISTENING TO SOME BOOTY BASS. IT IS BEING DRIVEN BY AN AUDIOBAHN 4002T BRIDGED WITH THE GAIN SET AT ONLY 1/3. IT SOUNDED GOOD WHILE IT LASTED BUT DID NOT LAST LONG!!! WE THEN REPLACED IT UNDER WARRANTY AND THE SECOND ONE LASTED ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED, AND THE MUSIC WASN'T EVEN UP VERY LOUD. THEY MAY WORK WELL IN A PORTED BOX. THE WEAK POINT IS THE AREA WHERE THE SURROUND MEETS THE CONE. I ACTUALLY THOUGHT I WOULD FRY THE VOICE COIL BEFORE THE CONE CRACKED. BUYER BEWARE!!!! SENSITIVITY RATING IS ALSO QUITE LOW. THERE ARE MUCH BETTER SUBS OUT THERE IN THE SAME PRICE RANGE.

This sub hits pretty hard. I had it matched up to a 200W RMS MTX amp and mounted in a QLogic 1.75 box and I was setting off alarms in the parking lot (Yes, with just one)! Plenty of bass for an SUV installation and did not distort at all. Doesn't have a sound quality like an Alpine or Infinity sub but does PUNCH hard and loud and cleanly when matched with the correct amp and box.
