High-quality replacement speakers

Rockford Fosgate designed the Punch P165 6-1/2" speakers as a high-grade replacement for your factory speakers. Each speaker features a responsive polypropylene cone and butyl rubber surround that'll stand up to hours of high-volume jams. The dome tweeter provides clear, extended highs that can hold their own when the bass gets heavy.

Rockford Fosgate innovations

Take a closer look and you'll notice a couple of cool innovations. Rockford Fosgate uses a new technique to attach the surround to the cone that yields up to 25% more cone area, for fuller sound and stronger performance. The slots around the frame eliminate the need to redrill screw holes when the factory holes are just a little bit off. And these speakers come with adapter plates that you can modify to install these speakers into 5"x7", 6"x8", or 6"x9" openings. Grilles are included.

Product Highlights:

  • 2-way 6-1/2" speakers (pair)
  • mineral-filled polypropylene woofer
  • butyl rubber surround
  • 3/4" polyetherimide (PEI) dome tweeter
  • includes adapter brackets for 5"x7", 6"x8", or 6"x9" openings (brackets require modification)
  • grilles included
  • Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST™) increases cone area
  • power range: 6-55 watts RMS (110 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 65-22,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 88 dB
  • top-mount depth: 2"
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

I upgraded to these speakers and they deliver an amazing sound quality( with an added amp). I've used Fosgate products in the past and is seems they still know how to keep customers jamming in their cars.

Pros: awesome sound quality

Cons: drilling out the factory speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Disappointed to say the least. I replace my stock speakers in a 2007 Silverado with P165's. I replace all 4 speakers and although the installation was fairly easy and sound is why I only give these 2 stars. There is very, very little bass and if I even get close to 3/4 volume they have noticeable distortion. I would not recommend these to anyone. I should have went somewhere and listened to some before purchasing these.

Pros: Look good!

Cons: Sound bad!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

good construction of speaker. Dome and tweeter are well made. The housing is very very solid. This speaker has some good weight to it (for a 6.5 inch). Mids and highs are nice and crisp. The bass is as much as one would expect out of a 6.5inch speaker, but is still pretty good. Matched up just fine to my stock deck.

Pros: well made speaker and comes with a adapter plate.

Cons: You always want more bass, but it gives you all it can.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What a difference with these speakers. P165 delivers a crisp and great sound. I replaced the factory speakers in my 2011 Jetta. Amazing punch and bass (of course, it heavely depends on the kind of music you are listening to as well as the song recording quality). I did not replace the factory stereo and I do not have any amplifiers for these speakers and I am extremely happy about the improvement though. I can listen to details in the songs that I was not able to with the factory speakers. I wish I have made this upgrade sooner.

Pros: Great punch and bass Crisp and clear sound Great looking speakers (it is a shame that door panels covers them) Great quality

Cons: None

Not impressed.

Written by: Dave from La Grande on May 30, 2014

Really not to thrilled with these speakers. I put them in my 84 k5 Blazer. I'm powering my system with the Kenwood excelon KDC-BT758H. These speakers don't have much in the end of lows and tend to have major distortion when it's tight punchy bass. I had Infinity Kappas in my old jeep and really wish I would of got another set of those. The difference between the two is night and day.

Pros: They do look nice. But I'm listing to them, not really watching them.

Cons: Distortion on mid range witch is what a person buys 6.5" speakers for.

I have a scion FR-S and the sound system definitely was not up to my standards. These door speakers did the job great and got rid of the distortion at higher volume.

Pros: Super easy to install. Sound great Adds a little more bass

Cons: I have to turn my radio up higher so what I used to listen at 30 is now 40 on my volume scale. Fitment wasn't perfect so I have 2 screws instead of 4 : (

Product Research

Injection-Molded Polypropylene Woofers: The woofer cones are mineral filled, injection-molded polypropylene. This molding process assures a uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. It is also light weight and rigid for decreased distortion and improved bass response.

Butyl Rubber Surrounds: The butyl rubber surrounds dampen unwanted harmonic distortion while maintaining linear geometry under extreme weather conditions. This leads to less distortion, superior frequency response, and superior durability.

VAST Surround: The Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) increases a speaker's effective radiating cone area without increasing the size of the basket.

Tweeters: Each speaker features a 3/4" PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide) dome tweeter; PEI is a polymer film that produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging.

FlexFit Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

StampCast Basket: The P165 features StampCast steel baskets for added rigidity.

Adapter Bracket: For mounting flexibility, the included brackets can be modified to fit 5x7, 6x8, or 6x9 applications.

Note: The bracket is generic (cutout sized for a 5-1/4) and requires modification before the P165 will fit into it.

Speaker Terminals: These speakers have 0.25" wide positive (+) terminals and 0.187" wide negative (-) terminals, which are too large for the vehicle-specific speaker harnesses supplied by Crutchfield for many vehicle applications. It is recommended that a pack of assorted female quick slides (item number 120FQS10PK, sold separately) be purchased and spliced to the harnesses to adapt them to the speaker terminals.

You should have no problems with this set up. The only thing you might run into is not getting the full volume you want. It won't be by much I'm sure only by a few dB's. if the speakers were 2 ohm speakers you'd get more a little more volume because there's less resistance. But they will sound just fine with that big of an amp. They're great sounding speakers by the way. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. [ MALINDA J  May 01, 2015 ]
