The poly woofer and butyl rubber surround give you solid bass.

High-quality replacement speakers

Rockford Fosgate designed the Punch P165-S component speaker system as a high-grade replacement for your factory speakers. Each 6-1/2" woofer features a responsive polypropylene cone and butyl rubber surround that'll stand up to hours of high-volume jams. The separate 1" dome tweeters provide clear, extended highs that can hold their own when the bass gets heavy.

Rockford Fosgate innovations

Take a closer look and you'll notice a couple of cool innovations. Rockford Fosgate uses a new technique to attach the surround to the cone that yields up to 25% more cone area, for fuller sound and stronger performance. They build the crossover into the speaker frame so you don't have to find an area to mount a separate box. The slots around the frame eliminate the need to redrill screw holes when the factory holes are just a little bit off. Grilles are included.

Product Highlights:

  • component speaker system includes 2 woofers, 2 tweeters, and 2 woofer grilles
  • 6-1/2" mineral-filled polypropylene woofer
  • butyl rubber surround
  • 1" polyetherimide (PEI) dome tweeter
  • crossovers built into woofer baskets
  • Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST™) increases cone area
  • power range: 6-60 watts RMS (120 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 60-22,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 90.2 dB
  • top-mount depth: 1-15/16"
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

Really great sound

Written By Gene, New Hampshire on Saturday, May 16, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Over all a really great set of speakers. These actually replace a new set of Pioneer separates. I was not getting the bass that I wanted form the Pioneers which was surprising. This is the first set of Rockford Fosgates that I have owned and I am really impressed. I was not looking for the boom boom bass sound of the new music but I wanted something that you could notice the bass in Classic Rock. These are really great sounding speakers. I installed these in a 2013 Jeep Wrangler JKU. For those out there looking for a good speaker set up for the sound bar, these are great. I am curious as to why I cannot install larger speakers in the sound bar. The diameter is big enough but this diameter is what is recommended. Over all excellent.

Pros: Excellent quality and construction. Great sound.

Cons: The terminals are odd sizes and you will have to crimp on different terminals even with the installation kit. Not a big deal though.

These are awesome!

These guys are pretty versatile with a wide power range. Very clean sound. Good bass response.

Pros: Having the bass blocker for the tweeters integrated with the basket for the midrange makes installation a snap.

These speakers sound great. I put them in my Dodge Durango and it definitely pleased me. Install was easy like it said. If you have a factory setup and are Looking for a small upgrade these speaker will make you happy. I've been buying from Crutchfield for about 4 years now and have not been disappointed yet. They give good advice and the research they do makes it easy for us to decide what we want. I would buy these again in a heartbeat.

These speakers sound awesome, so much better than the stockers. Would recommend to anyone. Best was getting second set for half price. Easy to install with the integrated crossover.

Pros: Fit in car perfect and sound great. Would recommend dynamat on the doors.

Cons: Had to cut hole in a brand new car to fit tweeter. Make sure you have a dremel

High quality but HARD install

Written By Scott S., Ava, MO. on Wednesday, October 08, 2014

Rockford quality as expected & major upgrade for factory 04 Colorado Crew Cab O.E. Tweeter was no where close to fitting in original slot & took heavy modification to fit. Large speakers didn't fit but minor adjustment to complete install. High quality upgrade as expected but more work than imagined & would consider different Rockford model/series to make install easier.

Pros: As always very high quality from Rockford Fosgate, great sound & best bang for your buck! Can never go wrong with RF!

Cons: Would give 5 * if installation was not so intensive. If you don't want to cut on your door panel, you may want to consider a different series and/or size. Far from simple removing the old & in with new. However if you are auto/mechanic savy you can handle the job. If not much on D.I.Y. projects consider having professional install.

Theses speakers were a great replacement for the OE ones in my '00 Blazer! The installation kits included made it easy to install. Good sound!

Pros: Easy installation, Good sound

Cons: I am adding a subwoofer to make up for the low end being absent. Didn't want subwoofer quality nor did I expect it. Just a little more low end and 5 stars

Great replacement speaker

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

great replacement speakers. they really delivery bass even without a separate amplifier. integrated crossover within the speaker is a big plus. the bad news installing them in the rear side of a 2002 Suzuki Aerio?... 1-it doesn't fit in the factory-drilled screw holes; you have to drill two additional holes. 2-provided speaker cable adaptor doesn't fit the smaller terminal of the speaker (adaptor female connector is too small).

Pros: great sound. integrated crossover. nice looking.

Cons: extra screw drilling required. speaker cable adaptor doesn't fit the speaker terminals.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put the set in a 06 civic. With the adaptors I also bought here it took me like 30 minutes to put them in. They fit perfect I even put the foam backings on. I haven't put in an amp yet but so far they rock pretty good! The hardware that comes with it, the screws more specifically that hold the speaker to the mount need to be shortened how ever you want to do it. I cut them with a cut off wheel because you can put the speaker to the mount before attaching it to the door. Or you can try to just screw them into the door but that's where things start to break.

Pros: Easy install, fit up, wiring, sound really swell.

Cons: Figuring out how to hook up the tweeters.

My Second Set

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Have them in my 2009 GMC Crew Cab and liked them so much I bought a set for my dad for X-mas. There are a great step up from factory speakers even better than most premium factory speakers.

Pros: Easy install no need to mess around finding a place for a external crossover

These were used to replace the stock speakers in my wife's 300 Touring. So far I am very happy with them. They reproduce clear/crisp highs.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound great! The 6 1/2 woofer fit with just a little modification to the door, which I was aware of thanks to the great instructions. The only downside of these is that the tweeters were much larger than my factory ones, and required a fair amount of modification to get them to work in the factory location. If the instructions had included some tips on that part of the install, I would have given it 5 stars. If you are looking for crazy bass, these are not the speakers for you, although if you are building a full system(component fronts, aftermarket rears, and true subs) these speakers are perfect for that.

Pros: Sound Great! Really good highs from the tweeters, just the right amount of bass for the woofers!

Cons: Had to do quite a bit of modifying to get the tweeters to fit in the factory location

Gets the job done!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these to replace a blown factory speaker. They may be slight overkill for my needs (I use an aftermarket head unit, but no amp), but they sound great! Installation was a little tricky at no fault of the speakers themselves. Thanks a lot Honda! I would give them a 5 star rating had the first set I received not contained a defective speaker. However, Crutchfield customer support was fantastic and sent me a replacement set right away!

Pros: Clean sound. Very adaptable to you installation needs.

Cons: Defective speaker in first set received.

Product Research

Injection-Molded Polypropylene Woofers: The woofer cones are mineral filled, injection-molded polypropylene. This molding process assures a uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. It is also light weight and rigid for decreased distortion and improved bass response.

Butyl Rubber Surrounds: The butyl rubber surrounds dampen unwanted harmonic distortion while maintaining linear geometry under extreme weather conditions. This leads to less distortion, superior frequency response, and superior durability.

VAST Surround: The Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) increases a speaker's effective radiating cone area without increasing the size of the basket.

FlexFit Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

Woofer Size: Although the FlexFit basket allows a wide range of screw hole positions, it does not offer the standard three hole 6-1/2" pattern. Drilling new screw holes may be necessary.

PEI Dome Tweeters: The 1" dome tweeters are made of Poly-Ether-Imide (PEI); PEI is a polymer film that produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging.

Mounting: The tweeters have multiple mounting configurations; choose flush or surface mount. The surface mount housing can be positioned at a 10° or 30° angle. Depending on the mount used, the installed dimensions are:

  Flush Surface 10° Surface 30°
Mounting Height 0.446" 1.075" 1.265"
Mounting Depth 0.911" Screw Depth Screw Depth
Frame Diameter 2.357" N/A N/A
Cutout Diameter 1.75" N/A N/A
Frame Width N/A 2.130" 2.130"
Frame Depth N/A 2.162" 2.140"

Crossovers: The high-pass crossovers are integrated into the baskets of the woofers. The slope is 12dB per octave.

Speaker Terminals: These speakers have 0.25" wide positive (+) terminals and 0.187" wide negative (-) terminals, which are too large for the vehicle-specific speaker harnesses Crutchfield supplies for many vehicle applications. We recommend that a pack of assorted female quick slides (item number 120FQS10PK, sold separately) be purchased and spliced to the harnesses to adapt them to the speaker terminals.
