Install in a 1996 Lexus ES300

Written by: Anonymous from Tennessee on December 24, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Checking these pair of speakers out, the site said they were compatible with mp 1996 Lexus ES300, but upon installing, the speaker basket was just a little too back the car frame so i had to bend and fit the speaker to place.

The speakers themselves are a massive step up from the stock Lexus pioneer speakers, so i am happy about that.

Pros: Sounds great, very clean design, solidly built, easy to install

Cons: For my only con, it is not completely compatible with 1996 Lexus ES300 unless the user or installer DIY the speaker into the frame

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are excellent speakers for the price point. I am running these without an amp with a Pioneer AppRadio 4 head unit.

These have great sound, my only complaint is I have to turn the volume up to mid level to get the bass to come through. I don't know if this is because I am not running an amp, how the head unit is designed, or by design. Once the bass comes in, it is great, not boomy or sloppy. Nice crisp, low sound. It is enough to make me consider NOT adding a subwoofer.

Pros: Great sound, decent value.

Cons: Bass does t come in on low volume, again this may not be by fault of the speaker.

Pros: Song travels through vehicle much better. Fit pretty nicely. Isnt overwhelmed by my subwoofers

Cons: Depth of speaker was a little too much for a1998 jeep grand cherokee however put a towel behind the speaker so the magnet wasnt attracting to my metal frame.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Put in 2010 Prius front doors - all hardware needed was there, instructions right on. Installation fairly easy, except forgot to get mounting screws beforehand. Very well constructed. Came fast, too.

Pros: Speakers much better than stock. Mid and lows are very clean. Sound great.

Cons: With non-JVC stock deck, I think it's too under-powered to really get full benefits of this speaker. Volume turned up pretty high. Need an amp. Probably would have given 5 stars if I could have heard them with an amp.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This speaker is a good choice for low to normal volume listening. In hindsight, I should have gone with a larger speaker to the music volume and loudness I was wanting.

Pros: This speaker is well built and fits nicely in my factory dash speaker mounts. The speaker sounds good listening to talk radio and low to mid level volume music.

Cons: Bass easily makes this speaker sound bad at higher volume settings. However, it probably was not intended for loud music.

Upgraded the factory Toyota speakers with these. I swear with a window rolled down and the radio turned all the way up you couldn't hear it play while driving. These Speakers with an amp = great stereo quality sound and I can hear the radio now

Pros: Fit in the door panels with mounting kit, no cutting, no drilling and no RF surface grill to alert thieves that the system is upgraded. The truck interior looks all stock.

Cons: None

Speaker sounds good. I can push it to much though on my factory amp with an after market deck. Quality seems impeccable as expected from RF. Highs are crisp and lows are moderately deep.

Pros: Solid manufacturing,

Cons: Single posts. I was hoping for dual posts for independent highs and lows like others they have. That and there is no way to splice out the highs from the lows, easy way. I have a factory amp I'm hooking up to so my issues may all be resolved if strait from deck.

2001 Nissan Xterra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are a huge upgrade from stock! They are mounted in the rear panels of a 2001 Nissan Xterra. The clarity of the mids and highs follow all the way up the frequency range with any amount of volume. The bass is solid as well. it is definitely an upgrade from stock and will keep you on the edge on if you need a sub or not. I currently do not have them powered by an external amp, but the after market pioneer HU pushes 35 watts RMS and they handle it with no issues. They do not get any power clipping or distortion at high volumes. This is my first set of Rockford's, but I am very happy with them as of right now. They have the same solid sound as any kicker or focal units I have had in the past. Will probably switch my front components from kicker over to Rockford's!

Pros: Solid response to the full frequency range. Thin in terms of mounting depth. Solid construction with a great metal basket and the butyl surround.

Cons: Mounting holes did not align 100%, but was so close that it worked anyway!

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The first thing I noticed was how much larger the magnet was compared to the stock speakers in my 2004 Grand Cherokee. These speakers had a more solid and heavier feel. Installation was a breeze. Crutchfield supplied the right accessories to make the wiring adapter fit. At first, I wasn't too impressed with the sound. But I had installed a new receiver, so its EQ was set flat; thus the speakers sounded flat. Once I fiddled with the EQ, these things came to life. I can now feel the kick drum and hear the sub-harmonics without speaker noise. The mids are present and the highs sparkle. Now I look for excuses to go for a drive.

I'm the type of listener that goes for a balanced sound. Having said that, I feel there is no need for a sub.

Pros: Excellent bass response. Clear sound from top to bottom

Cons: None

Written by: Levi from Ohio on December 28, 2013

I installed these today in my 1998 Grand Prix and when I turned the radio on (installed a new JVC radio a few days ago), I was amazed by the sound. They have lots of bass (especially for not even having an amp) and sound much more clear than the factory ones did.

Pros: Bass is good, clear sound, giant magnet on back

Cons: Speaker installation holes didn't quite match up with the Pontiac mounting brackets, but just enough so that I could get them installed and sounding great.

2012 Dodge Avenger
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these babies in a 2012 Dodge Avenger (rear deck) in about 20 minutes. Crutchfield know just what additional parts to send to make the install go smoothly. Installed these a few weeks before replacing the stock radio with a Kenwood KDC-X397. First impression out of the box was Wow! The craftsmanship and quality is superb. Then turn it over and take a look at that huge magnet. What a difference in sound quality even before upgrading the stereo! Even running off of a stock radio, these babies hit such a deep, clear low that the rear view mirror nearly came off. I couldn't wait to get the upgraded stereo with 22W RMS. Installed the Kenwood today and OMG! My neighbor came over when he heard the booming and thought I had installed a sub box. These sound great, deep base and crystal clear highs. Better yet, the louder you play it, the harder they hit and the clearer they sound. I'm definitely getting another pair for the doors and will be putting them (and the Kenwood) into my other vehicles. These speakers and this combo rocks!!!

Pros: Ease of installation; great value

Cons: none

Written by: Brendan from Okanogan, WA on June 13, 2013

Truly outstanding speakers. Crisp highs with no hint of harshness, and powerful bass. In fact, I've been able to convince my friends that I have a small subwoofer in my trunk. All in all, I highly recommend these speakers to anyone looking for high performance speakers with a sensible price tag. Please note that these do best with more power-- originally I installed them with my stock receiver in my '99 Buick Century, and they performed decently. It wasn't until I purchased a new amplified receiver that I really got the best out of them, though.

Pros: Powerful bass, crisp treble, detailed and rich sonic experience.

Cons: No Flaws!

Prior to installing new 6x9 speakers I placed just the grills up to the 7 1/4 x 10 1/4 RV cabinet face the stock 6 1/2 round speakers had been. Too big! Grill ODs not published on Crutchfield or mfg's website so if this is a concern for you take a trip to a brick & mortar to measure speakers you are considering. I returned these and went with Infinity XRef 6502s. As always Crutchfield was a joy to work with!

It took many years to wear out the first pair of the same Rock "92"s, bought at Crutchfield. Some serious power moved through those puppies! Great performance throughout powered by a Kenwood amp and installed on the rear deck. Look forward to the same from this pair. Nice to feel that same BIG magnet underneath the speaker chasis when installing. Give Rock's power, they deliver.

Pros: All. Odd connectors for the wires, but Crutchfield sent the stuff to make it easy.

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These Rockford Fosgates, JL Audio TR600-CXi speakers and JVC Arsenal KDAHD65 receiver replaced the factory stereo in a Honda Accord 4-de LX. The Fosgates went in the rear deck. This new system is a vast improvement over the factory stereo. The Fosgates produce sufficient bass for my taste. The sound is more full-bodied, bass and drums are tight, not booming. I had them professionally installed and understand there was no modification needed in the install.

Pros: Vast improvement over the factory 5" rear deck speakers. More pronounced, tight bass, much clearer reproduction of mids and highs.

Cons: None. Am very happy with them.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I Installed these in my Buick regal because my other rear deck speakers were blown. I wanted some speakers with good bass and clear sound but not too pricey. They have great sound crystal clear and the bass only on some songs that i play via my iPod have awesome bass. My friend was in my car and he thought i got some subs. When there's a good bass song they really kick and vibrate the whole car its awesome. I'm not a huge bass head but i do like some and they doo a great job. For installing them i had some problems and had to tweak some things in my car but in the end they pit just fine. I highly reccomend these to anyone that wants crystal clear speakers and bass a step below having subwoofers.

Pros: Great Bass Clear Sound

Cons: Had to adjust my stock bracket to make them fit but it was easy

Written by: Scotty from Columbus, OH on November 25, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the front door location to replace the blown factory Infinity System. I had high hopes for these, and they satisfied some needs while leaving me underwhelmed and unhappy in others. The quality of the speakers seemed top notch when I received them, and after comparing them to the Infinity factory speakers, they looked like they would perform much better. However, looks mean very little, and these speakers were a step below the factory system in most areas. Right away I noticed that they were not as loud as the stock speakers, requiring me to turn the radio up a bit higher than usual. They produced a very clear and focused sound, and the tweeters really shined when reproducing high end sound. The woofers themselves were the bad part, as they put out a lot less bass than the stock speakers, and overall lacked a lot of the punch that I used to hear in my car. Overall, a very average sounding set of speakers that seem to be priced a bit high for what they sound like. Put out a nice clean sound that unfortunately for me was subpar to the factory speakers

Pros: Clean sound, great high end from tweeters. Good materials

Cons: Only average bass output at best, not as efficient as infinity factory speakers

Great Speakers

Written by: Matthewt19 from Denver, NC on October 27, 2012

When i first bought these speakers i put them in the back of my dodge dakota club cab. I was not expecting huge bass response from these but what they were producing in the back of my truck was less than adequete. A couple of weeks later i pulled them out and stuck them in a box and my friends ask what size subs i have. They have great bass and great treble and mids. I have them run off a jl audio amp with 75 watts rms running to each speaker. I would purchase these again in the future.

Pros: Everything

Cons: nothing

Lots of Punch for the $$

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very nice product! When you factor in the price they are excellent. Much better materials than MBQuart Discus line that they replaced. With deeper and tighter bass response and much smoother mids and highs (attribute the later to separate drivers for each). They look and sound very solid and with good amp power can really play loud and more importantly stay tight and focused.

Pros: Build quality and tight rich sound

Cons: I would not run these with head unit power as they sound much better and require more watts

Boom - nuff said.

Pros: Awesome, full range sound with lots of bass.

Cons: Speaker posts were too wide for the connectors Crutchfield sent - and I didn't want to force them because once they break - they're toast - so I had to go buy bigger connectors and crimp them down - not the most secure connection. Wish they were screw down or but connectors.

Pros: Quality. Instruction manual is decent.

Cons: Had to drill new holes in rear deck to mount the speakers. The self tapping screws that are included from RF have a Allen wrench head that is irregular. Therefore you have use the bit that RF includes to anchor the screws. This made install very tedious.

O.K. 2011 Dodge Ram Quad Cab

Written by: Beebe from Texas on May 27, 2012

I initaly bought these speakers to replace the rear 6"x9" in the back doors of my truck. There is a small amount of trimming needed to get these speaker flush. I gave them 3 weeks of heavy abuse and they really just never "came alive". I was powering the speakers with a 4- Channel Pioneer Premier 50x4 RMS at a 0db gain. I decided to give them another chance in my wife's 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix. They were a moderate gain in sound quality, powered off of the factory head unit. Overall I give these Speaker's a 3 Star rating only because of the $$PRICE and that they did not perform in the Dodge Ram Quad Cab, I obtained a much better sound from a $40.00 pair of 6x9"s.

Pros: They Look Great and Powerful!

Cons: Not a good pairing in the 2009-2011 Dodge Ram. Factory speaker seem better

However, they absolutely do NOT fit the Xterra rear panel area! They are too deep by about 1/4". I ripped apart the factory speakers to use the plastic edging as a spacer. It got the depth acceptable, but then they stuck out too far and interfered with the interior paneling. I ended up having to dremel a big hole and use the R-F grilles to make it work. I also had a hard time finding mounting hardware that worked and cobbled something together using the R-F screws and the back nuts from the front speakers! If the truck was newer, I would've been mad and returned them, but since it is old I'm not too concerned about the clunky look. If you have a 2000 Xterra, don't believe that these fit without some serious modifications!

Pros: Sound nice for the price. The 4 stars are just for this aspect.

Cons: Don't fit my car at all despite Crutchfield's indication that they fit w/o any extra mounting pieces. If I was just rating this part, it'd be 0 stars.

2007 Dodge Ram 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Product is listed as "will fit front door" which is the main reason I bought it. However once I tried to insert the speaker into the factory opening "fits front door" was inaccurate. I had to make two cuts into the door sheet metal on each side and "fold" the sheet metal back to accomadate the larger Fosgate speaker frame. Also, the included wiring harness that was meant to ease installation by interfacing between the factory connector and the speaker terminals didn't work. The speaker side connectors were usless and I had to crimp the correct connectors on the harness.

Pros: Good sound, much better than factory of course.

Cons: Needs more power than factory priginal radio to get full benefit.

Very Nice Speakers compared to the factory speakers these replaced, Its Night and Day. The Rockford Fosgate Punch P1692 quality is far better including Materials used and Sound Quality. They were a perfect fit, no modifications were needed. Great Speaker for the Money.

the speakers are loud and have alot of bass for their size, but the blow easily. ive only got one hooked up now, because the other blew, but its still plenty loud enough. be sure not to put your bass up too high with these, or the cone will hit the tweeter and create a loud cracking noise. other than that a great purchase! would buy again!

2004 Nissan Xterra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So far, I'm happy but not thrilled with these speakers. The clarity seems a bit lacking, but I may just be spoiled by the Alpine component set I put in the front. However, the bass from this set is decent. I don't like a ton of bass in my music, and have no room for a subwoofer. These seem to produce just enough for me.

Regarding the clarity of the mids and highs, or lack thereof, I'm not sure I can recommend these in certain cases. If you're primarily concerned about the bass from the rear, and have a decent set of speakers in the front, these may work for you. If you're mounting them on the rear deck, don't expect many compliments from your rear seat passengers. Overall, I think these would be a good deal for about $80, but this price seems a bit steep.

2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speakers are loud and clear, the funny thing was i ordered the wrong 6x9's, i wanted the 4 way but ordered the 2 way by accident, but honestly they are awesome. I drive a 2000 Eclipse GT with the Infinity system in it, and i do have to 12"s in the trunk, all and all, The bass pounds and the treble, mids, and everything else is so clear, great speakers.

Product Research

Injection-Molded Polypropylene Woofers: The woofer cones are mineral filled, injection-molded polypropylene. This molding process assures a uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. It is also light weight and rigid for decreased distortion and improved bass response.

Butyl Rubber Surrounds: The butyl rubber surrounds dampen unwanted harmonic distortion while maintaining linear geometry under extreme weather conditions. This leads to less distortion, superior frequency response, and superior durability.

VAST Surround: The Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) increases a speaker's effective radiating cone area without increasing the size of the basket.

Tweeters: Each speaker features a 3/4" PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide) dome tweeter; PEI is a polymer film that produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging.

Speaker Terminals: These speakers have 0.25" wide positive (+) terminals and 0.187" wide negative (-) terminals, which are too large for the vehicle-specific speaker harnesses supplied by Crutchfield for many vehicle applications. It is recommended that a pack of assorted female quick slides (item number 120FQS10PK, sold separately) be purchased and spliced to the harnesses to adapt them to the speaker terminals.

I Have these in my car. Single din will not push enough power. Get a decent double din. I run a pioneer in my car and they are crisp as can be up to full volume no extra power needed. [ joshua  Aug 23, 2015 ]
