Rockford Fosgate showcases their fanatical commitment to sonic excellence in the Punch Series of speakers, amps, and subs. If you like to listen to potent, powerful music — and feel it too — Punch components will give you impressive sound that'll stand out in a crowd.

Engineers at Rockford Fosgate designed the P1S4-10 10" subwoofer to dish out the kind of powerful low end you crave in your ride. Its responsive paper cone is reinforced with the same Kevlar® fibers used in bulletproof vests so you get the best of both worlds — warm bass that's exceptionally hard-hitting. Rockford Fosgate uses a new technique to attach the oversized rubber surround to the cone that increases available cone area up to 25%, so this sub can push more air for even bigger bass.

The P1S4-10 sub features an extended pole piece and bumped backplate that leaves more room for heavy excursion, so it'll hit deeper lows without "bottoming out." This sub works equally well in a sealed or ported enclosure, so you can choose the kind of bass you want for your system.

Product Research

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate Punch P1S4-10 is a 10-inch subwoofer with a single 4Ω voice coil. The sub features a StampCast steel frame, quick-release compression terminals, a Kevlar fiber reinforced paper cone, and NBR surround (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber). An anodized aluminum voice coil former and spider venting help keep the subwoofer cool.

Steel Basket: The P1S4-10 subwoofer features a StampCast steel basket for added rigidity.

Compression Terminals: The P1S4-10 features spring post terminals which accommodate speaker wire up to 10 gauge.

CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling on the P1S4-10 subwoofer conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards. This means the subwoofer has the capacity to handle power under continuous demand, not instantaneous power handling, that over time, can damage voice coils.

FlexFit Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

Trim Ring: To improve the cosmetic look, a decorative trim ring is included that mounts over the flange of the woofer. When using the PVC trim ring the woofer is first mounted with four screws, then the ring is placed on top of the woofer, aligning the final four holes of the woofer with ring. The other four screws are used for these holes to mount the ring and woofer to the enclosure. The trim ring increases the mounting height of the woofer to 15/16 of an inch.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Rockford recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 0.59 cubic feet (from 0.5 to 0.85 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: Rockford recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.4 cubic feet using one 3" diameter x 8" long port; this yields a tuning frequency of 37.3 Hz. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output (below 32 Hz).

Q
Will the Rockford Fosgate Punch P1S4-10 be ideal to run as a replacement sub for 2019 Subaru Forester?
chris kaizen ja  Jul 11, 2022

A
If you have a factory subwoofer in your 19 Subaru Forester, that means you have the Harmon Kardon audio package, Chris. That is the premium sound option for those years! This Rockford Fosgate Punch P1S4-10 is not a good choice here sadly, it won't fit! Check out this link below, this is the Audiofrog GS8ND2 GS Series 8" subwoofer. Audiofrog makes this speaker specifically for OEM replacement options. This speaker has a dual 2 ohm voice coil, just like your factory sub. These speakers will fit, but they are not an exact match for your vehicle's speaker openings. You'll need to fabricate a mounting bracket or spacer when you install this. Speakers like the JL Audio 8W1v3-4 8" in the second link can be installed but they won't work with your Harmon Kardon amp, You'd have to use a small mono amp to drive it. I hope this helps! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_898GS8ND2/Audiofrog-GS8ND2.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13692079/JL-Audio-8W1v3-4.html

Q
I want to outfit my dodge magnum with three RF P1S4-10 subs. My idea is to have the center sub facing the rear, and the other two at an angle (right sub hitting the driver, and left sub hitting the front passenger) with a plexiglass window at the center sub. Can you tell me what size box would be ideal? Ported or enclosed. I have a length of 39â?? and height of 15â?? to play with (depth is adjustable)Thank you.

A
Hi Ken. For each of your 3 subs, an optimum sealed enclosure would be 12" tall, 14" wide, and 9.25" deep. For a ported enclosure, optimum size would be 12" tall, 20" wide, and a depth of 14", as well as port diameter, and port length. You may view Rockford Fosgates enclosure information, including how to calculate your enclosures volume, and building an enclosure. This info is located in the owners manual of the Punch P1S4-10, on our site. You may also wish to take a look at the article we have published on our site regarding building subwoofer enclosures. You can also chat with an Advisor online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695. We will be happy to provide you with more information and assistance.

For the p1s4-10 if I was to run 2 what would be a good amp to use with it, trying to stick with Rockford?

Q
would the Rockford Fosgate R500X1D be enough to run 2 Rockford Fosgate P1S4-10 wired parallel at a 2 ohm load?
alan  Feb 19, 2019

A
The r500x1d is rated at 500 watts at 2 ohms. The p1s4-10 is rated 250 watts at 4 ohms. Two p1s4's wired in parallel will present a 2 ohm load at the amplifier. You will get the full 500 watts from the r500x1d.

I ran a similar set up but with the R2D4 and R2D2 series. I believe the R2D4 have the same ohm as P1S4 and the R2D2 as the P1S2. I had the 12 inch subwoofers of the R2 series. I was having some advanced technical problems for a build on my avalanche and tech support helped me on my first project but unable to trouble shoot the avalanche problem I took it to a local audio shop. The 2 R2D4 subwoofers were able to run on the Rockford Fosgate R500X1D, but only at half power (250 RMS Watts). They told me that the 2 R2D2 subwoofers set up would allow me to get the full power (500 RMS Watts). I had a bit of a complex situation and I don't want to give inaccurate information, but based on my experience, I believe the dual P1S2-10 would run better with the Rockford Fosgate R500X1D. But you CAN run the amp with the dual P1S4-10 set up. You just will have half power. Again, just speaking from what I understand and my experience. An advisor can help get your specifics but I wanted to help inform the best I could!

A
Yes. You'll get well above 500 watts RMS from the 500X1D. Sealed or ported enclosure for 2 drivers would work well with this setup.

This ported dual 10" box is a great choice for two of the Rockford Punch P1S4: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777BB1021V/Sound-Ordnance-Bass-Bunker.html If you would like to discuss further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. Hope that helps!

Q
Will my Rockford Fosgate R500X1D Prime 1-Channel Class D (300x1 4 OHM) be to powerful for 1 of these Fosgate 10" subs?
mikeyoh  Jun 08, 2016
1 answer
A
It should easily, I have an 800 watt amp for my two 10's on that exact sub, and it delivers plenty of power. 500 for one should be plenty of power for the sub to work properly!
