Rockford Fosgate showcases their fanatical commitment to sonic excellence in the Punch Series of speakers, amps, and subs. If you like to listen to potent, powerful music — and feel it too — Punch components will give you impressive sound that'll stand out in a crowd.

Engineers at Rockford Fosgate designed the P1S4-12 12" subwoofer to dish out the kind of powerful low end you crave in your ride. Its responsive paper cone is reinforced with the same Kevlar® fibers used in bulletproof vests so you get the best of both worlds — warm bass that's exceptionally hard-hitting. Rockford Fosgate uses a new technique to attach the oversized rubber surround to the cone that increases available cone area up to 25%, so this sub can push more air for even bigger bass.

The P1S4-12 sub features an extended pole piece and bumped backplate that leaves more room for heavy excursion, so it'll hit deeper lows without "bottoming out." This sub works equally well in a sealed or ported enclosure, so you can choose the kind of bass you want for your system.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 200 and 375 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Nothing bad to say about this speaker. I should have bought two if one sounded so good, but space constraints. Have it in a Sound Ordnance .95cu sealed enclosure with 200w RMS and it hits great.

Great subwoofers. I purchased two of these with the JVC KS-AX3201D amp and a Sound Ordinance ported box and they pound! Very impressed. I listen to a lot of different music and not only do they sound good with rap/hip-hop, they sound great with rock too. Great subwoofers for anyone looking for a decent priced sub. Best bang for your buck!

Pros: Hits hard, looks cool, and the price isn't bad.

Cons:

Old school sounds

For a cheaper sub they slam. I have it hooked up to a 500 watt amp in the back of my integra and I've had people compliment on it befor.

Pros: Loud, cheap, can fit in small areas

Cons: Not that it really matters but looks boring

Love this speaker. My only complaint is that the clearance between the speaker cover and the speaker itself is tight. I worry that the speaker will rub up against the cover and produce a hole. Other than that, no complaints. Sounds amazing!!

Pros: good build quality sounds amazing

Cons: tolerances may be to tight?

You will not find a better sub in this price range. I have had and punished many subs since 1986 and I always go back to Rockford Fosgate.

The sound is freaking loud for only spending $160 simply because they are efficient enough and big enough in the box I chose Has a nice grille available that goes between speakers and outer grille to protect speaker even though i don't need cause the box is sealed for front of speakers

Pros: Perfect value for such loud sound, clear bass in this band pass box or whatever it's called

Cons: I'm not really going to consider this a negative, but the trim rings are a tight fit at 13in diameter, fits great in the box tight for anyone who needs to know

small price that hits nicely

purchased 2 12's for $100 each. I have them in a bassworx ported box with a alpine m500 amplifier wired @ 2 ohms (roughly around 250 watts per subwoofer). i wasnt expecting a whole lot from these since they're only stage 1's. but after testing it in my car, they pound pretty hard for what they are. they get loud for a cheap price.

Pros: - looks cool - hits hard

Cons: - sq isnt all that great

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate Punch P1S4-12 is a 12-inch subwoofer with a single 4Ω voice coil. The sub features a StampCast steel frame, quick-release compression terminals, a Kevlar fiber reinforced paper cone, and NBR surround (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber). An anodized aluminum voice coil former and spider venting help keep the subwoofer cool.

Steel Basket: The P1S4-12 subwoofer features a StampCast steel basket for added rigidity.

Compression Terminals: The P1S4-12 features spring post terminals which accommodate speaker wire up to 10 gauge.

CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling on the P1S4-12 subwoofer conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards. This means the subwoofer has the capacity to handle power under continuous demand, not instantaneous power handling, that over time, can damage voice coils.

FlexFit Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

Trim Ring: To improve the cosmetic look, a decorative trim ring is included that mounts over the flange of the woofer. When using the PVC trim ring the woofer is first mounted with four screws, then the ring is placed on top of the woofer, aligning the final four holes of the woofer with ring. The other four screws are used for these holes to mount the ring and woofer to the enclosure. The trim ring increases the mounting height of the woofer to 13/16 of an inch.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Rockford recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 1.02 cubic feet (from 0.7 to 1.8 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: Rockford recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.79 cubic feet using one 3" diameter x 6" long port; this yields a tuning frequency of 36 Hz. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output (below 32 Hz).

Why did you buy this?

A lot of research went into this buy. Came to the conclusion, this is the best woofer for the money! [ stephen  Jul 06, 2016 ]

Good customer reviews. I've also always been a fan of Rockford, speakers were cheap and they delivered just the right amount of power I need to put into my sisters car. [ Jerod  Feb 24, 2016 ]
I already have two. I blew one of them, so obvious I need to replace it by getting another one. Overall it is a great sounding speaker with very nice quality at a(n) affordable price. Very recommended because most stores will try to push what they are sponsored by (speaker brand) without giving you the full story on everything. Do your research! [ Kevin  Jan 03, 2016 ]
Love rockford products [ Jason  Dec 29, 2015 ]

I used 10 gauge and it worked well. [ MITCHELL  Jul 14, 2015 ]
14 Gauge or 16 Gauge wire will work fine both inside the sub box and from the sub box to the amplifier. [ Benjamin  Jul 13, 2015 ]
