Product Research

Features

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate Punch P300-12 is an all-in-one bass solution featuring a 12" woofer and a built-in 300 watt RMS amplifier in an enclosure made from 5/8" MDF.

Closed-Loop Design: The closed-loop designed ensures optimum performance of the woofer, amplifier, and enclosure system.

Integrated Amplifier: The 12" woofer is powered by a built-in amplifier rated at 300 watts RMS/600 watts peak.

Quick Disconnect Power/Ground: The power, ground, and remote turn-on wires attach to a quick disconnect terminal block, so the subwoofer can be easily removed when you need more storage space. Each terminal is a set screw, the power and ground will accept up to 4 gauge wire (minimum 8 gauge recommend) and the remote turn-on will accept up to 8 gauge wire.

Audio Inputs: The amplifier section will accept either a line level (RCA) or speaker level signal. The included 10" input harness has a Molex plug on one end and female stereo RCA jacks on the other. When using a speaker level input, cut the RCA jacks off and splice into the remaining wires. Adjust the Input Level switch to match your input type (Hi/Lo).

Auto Turn-On: The Auto Turn-On switch offers three options:

  • REM: the amp turns on when +12 volts DC is applied to the remote terminal
  • DC Offset: the amp turns on when a 6 volt surge is detected on the signal inputs (from a speaker level source)
  • Audio: the amp turns on when an incoming audio signal is detected (can be used with line level or speaker level inputs)

Gain control: The rotary gain control allows you to match the output level of your headunit to the input level of the powered subwoofer (100mV-3V).

Crossover: The 12 db/oct low-pass crossover is always engaged; the crossover point is adjustable from 50 to 200 Hz.

Bass Boost: Use the rotary dial to adjust the bass boost; continuously variable from 0 to +12 dB, centered at 45 Hz.

Phase: A switch allows you to reverse the phase of the subwoofer (0°, 180°).

Protection Circuit: The P300-12 is equipped with thermal overload, over voltage, and short circuit protection. The amplifier will shut down if any of these situations is encountered.

Punch Level Control: A wired Punch Level Control is included so you can adjust the output level from the driver's seat. The remote has a bracket to mount it under the dash. The included 17-1/2' cable, with a 3.5mm mini-plug on each end, connects the remote to the subwoofer.

Note: The Punch Level Control measures approximately 2-3/8" wide x 1" high x 2" deep (3-1/2" deep including the knob and cable).

Dimensions: The dimensions listed in Features and Specs include the subwoofer's grille, and the power and signal wiring harnesses, which add approximately 7/8 of an inch and 1/2 an inch respectively. The depth of just the enclosure is 10-7/8 inches at the base and 7-1/8 inches at the top. The width without wiring is 19-7/8 inches.

Q
I have a dodge challenger 2013 , my HU is an Alpine ilx-w650, thinking about buying the amp-Alpine KTA-450 Power Pack very compact amp, if adding this subwoofer would I have to get the speaker signal from the RCA output HU or after the amp?
mauricio  Feb 02, 2024
1 answer
A
With the Alpine iLX-650 you can connect the Rockford Fosgate Punch P300-12 subwoofer using the RCA line-level subwoofer outputs, Mauricio. Make sure to add the Rockford Fosgate RFK8i 8-gauge wiring kit in the link below, it has everything you need to power and connect the Punch P300-12 powered subwoofer! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_575RFK8I/Rockford-Fosgate-RFK8i.html

Q
When patching into rear speakers on both channels, should I run a series or parallel?
michael  Dec 14, 2023
1 answer
A
Generally, we do not need to worry about series or parallel wiring schemes when tapping into factory speaker wire for signal. However, our advisors are happy to review your project and check if there is anything out of the ordinary regarding your vehicle's factory audio system. You may reach us via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695.

Q
I saw tutorials wiring it (by cutting the RCA cable) into only one back speaker, but other wiring it into both. Should I do just one? Or both left and right?
jason  Nov 30, 2023
1 answer
A
This will depend on the vehicle into which the subwoofer is being installed. Since music is generally available in stereo left/right, it's necessary to ensure that the subwoofer receiver both left and right audio so that bass frequencies aren't missing from one side or the other. This means that in most scenarios, the left and right audio inputs should both be used.

For personalized help with selecting the correct wiring and cables for this project, please reach out to our advisors via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695. They will need to ask a few questions about your project in order to provide the correct parts list.

Q
What gauge of wire does the input harness have? I would like to get matching gauge speaker wire and can't seem to find that info.
jimmy  Oct 01, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Jimmy. Thank you for your question. The gauge is not listed. If your running speaker level input, I would assume the gauge is no thicker than 18 gauge. If you have some time and want to check with Rockford Fosgate, maybe they have it databased somewhere. Their number is 800-669-9899.

Q
what wiring do I need specifically? for2015 Hyundai sonata sport with nav. do I ONLY need power wiring (8-guage amplifier wiring kit)
isaac  Sep 27, 2023
1 answer
A
I would be happy to help, Isaac. The Crutchfield CK8 kit in the first link below is crucial to installation for power and ground connections, but you will need some extra gear to connect to your 2015 Sonata for the source signal. We need to know the exact details of your specific trim level Sonata for any detailed info, and if you do have the Hybrid this is a good subwoofer option as it has a total current draw of 20-amps. Make sure to add around 40-feet of our 16-gauge speaker wire in the second link below, and some of the Posi-tap tools in the third link so you can "tap-in" to your factory system to get signal into the Rockford Fosgate subwoofer. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_007CK8/Crutchfield-CK8.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_007CSW16/Crutchfield-Speaker-Wire-16-gauge.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_669PP502/Posi-Products-Car-Speaker-Connectors.html

Will this fit behind the seat of a 2005 F350 regular cab?
thomas  Sep 27, 2023
1 answer
A
Unfortunately, we do not have measurements on file for the space behind the seat in the regular cab version of your truck. It seems unlikely that this sub/enclosure will fit. However, I would recommend checking the measurements in your truck. This enclosure measures 19-13/16"W x 15"H x 11"D1 x 7"D2.

Q
Just wondering what are the smallest speakers i can pair with this? I am installing this in my shop. Thanks.
adamk  Apr 13, 2023
1 answer
A
Speaker size wouldn't necessarily be the concern. The more important factory would be the frequency response of the speakers you would pair with this subwoofer. Generally speaking, a safe bet would be a speaker that can achieve under 80Hz. For additional assistance, please reach out to our advisors via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695.

Q
Does this require a LOC or is it built in?
michael  Mar 26, 2023

A
An LOC is not required. This subwoofer can accept speaker-level inputs. We recommend using RCA-to-speaker wire adapters such as those linked below: www.crutchfield.com/p_575RFIF2SW/item.html

What size powered sub should I get for 80-90s rock music?
bj  Jan 04, 2023
1 answer
A
This Rockford Fosgate Punch P300-12 would be a stellar choice, BJ. This provides tight, musical bass and packs quite a punch in such a small footprint (no pun intended). Add the matching Rockford Fosgate wiring kit in the link below and some extra speaker wire or RCA's for signal if you are installing yourself, and you have quite a lot of bang for the buck! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_575RFK8I/Rockford-Fosgate-RFK8i.html

Q
I have a 2010 ford f150 super crew cab. Pioneer DMH-1770NEX Head unit. Polk Audio DB 572 Speakers in the front and the back doors. And my base is terrible. -would this product be a good solution to gain more base? - will it fit on the ground below the back seat? -to install:: simply run the wire from this to the back of my head unit?
torpedo  Oct 07, 2022
1 answer
A
That Rockford P300-12 would definitely be a good way to get more bass in your set up in an all in one set up. It would not easily fit underneath the backseat, though, so you may want to consider scaling down to a smaller version which will still give you incredible bass. The installation would run to the back of your head unit for signal but you would still need to run power to the battery and ground. If you wanted to discuss some other potential options please give us a call at 800.324.9695 to speak with an advisor!

Q
Does it need a seperate remote trigger wire?
bryan  Sep 12, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings T, and thank you for your question. It does not. There is a 3 way turn on switch. One option is running a 12v trigger wire, another is speaker level in signal, and option three (auto), will turn on the powered sub via signal from either RCA input, or speaker level.

Q
I got a p30012 I purchase not even a year ago and my Punch Level Control stopped working, can I get a free replacement?
brian  Aug 01, 2022
1 answer
A
I apologize for that frustration, Brian. If you got that from us and it has been less than a year, give us a call! You've got a one year warranty from Rockford (possibly longer if you paired it with a Rockford Fosgate wiring kit) so you're covered. If it has been over a year we can get you sorted too, no sweat. What we do see often is that the issue with this knob is the 3.5mm cable sometimes, and not the actual knob! Either way we have you covered. Give us a shout at our Tech Support portal for any order issues and we can find your previous order and try to help!

papac  Jun 19, 2022

I have a saturn ion 2007 sedan without door speakers, and I have a dual electronics stereo DXRM57BT aftermarket stereo/head unit would this work in my car and if so how would I go about getting it to work?
bbbbbb  Sep 12, 2021
1 answer
A
Yes as long as you head unit has sub outputs on the back. You will power the sub off you car battery by running the positive to the positive on your car battery. Then wire the negative to a ground in your car. Run the rca cable to you head unit and that's all. I love mine that I bought for my 2008 Honda Civic. It sounds great and was super easy to setup. Make sure when you are buying the sub you buy the wiring kit also.

Don't know for sure, that sub box does have 2 different hook ups- being either off the rear speaker leads or by RCAs. Very vercital product. With your car I would try to connect to rear speakers but if there are multiple wires going to the speakers make sure you connect to either full range line or a low pass (sub) line. Hope that helps.

The increased efficiency of amplifiers has been able to reduce the size of the fuses needed to protect them. There is no need to increase the amperage of the fuses

Will this fit under the second row seat of my 2010 GMC SIerra 1500 Crew Cab?
russell  Nov 19, 2020

A
From what I am seeing on googling the dimensions of under your set...it will be extremely tight. If fits, seat may be really tight on top of it. I had purchased this speaker for my sons car(hatchback) and sounds great. I have a GMC 2012 Canyon and was considering getting but it would not fit at all. The Sierra is bigger but the underseat will probably be tight. I ended up getting a low profile powered sub and it fits and sounds good.

Yes. It is not chest pumping, hard to breathe bass. Its a small amp powered sub. But, you will still feel it and it will make your mirrors vibrate and can be heard from a distance. I initially put this in my sons Hyundai Accent hatchback behind his rear seat and he jumped when he first heard it. He now has my Ford Escape and its mounted behind the second row of seats and it fills the cab nicely with sound that can be felt. I would have bought another one of these when I got my new pickup but it does not have the space for it so I went with a low profile powered sub instead.

I tried a couple different options including a bungie cord, but the best option I found for my vehicle, was hook and loop (Velcro) that is peel and stick. I was lucky to have two, somewhat plush surfaces that held onto the hook side only, which I stuck directly to the unit enclosure. It worked amazingly well. I drove fast (mod'd TTRS) and it never moved even a little bit.
mark  May 28, 2020

Adhesive Velcro, it doesn't work very well, sub is too heavy and comes loose anyway. On a side note I wouldn't recommend this sub anyway, the amp keeps blowing out. I exchanged it twice, and finally sold the third one on Craig's list.
matt  May 27, 2020

The sub comes with velcro that you can stick on the bottom of the sub. I have mine in the trunk of my forester and the velcro keeps a good hold on the carpet.

You will need to grab a tape measure and measure the inside of your trunk. Then look at the dimensions that are shown in the ad. My gut feeling is yes it's not a huge speaker box. That's just my guess tho. I guess if you need extra room you can always take your spare tire out of your truck. That will gain some room. The speaker is awesome. I have one in my 2005 mustang convertible. Good luck.

I wouldn't recommend it. I don't think it's water resistant at all. They sell waterproof speakers at crutchfield and that's what I would recommend, they are a little more pricey but you won't ruin your stuff if it gets wet, or worst case scenario, it get wet and catches fire.

I don't believe it will. I added this to a factory system and it sounds good. This setup runs off its own amp so it shouldn't affect your aftermarket speakers or head unit. But I will warn you that this sub setup doesn't compare to a real subwoofer setup. You get what you pay for and definitely falls short to a cheap sub in a cheap box with a cheap amp. But for the price and convenience it will add some bass.

I dont think it will. Reason being, that you can control the level if bans that you prefer. Should be fine.

Won't hurt performance. But you'll get much better results from a amp sub setup.

No it won't. That's assuming that there is either a rear out or sub out and the back of your deck. However, even if you have to tap one of your line outs for signal there's no way any normal human being would notice a difference.

I spliced mine into the rear speakers on the Avalon, and spliced it into the amp on the lexus. I would leave your head unit alone.

I bought this for my wife's 08 Chevy Cobalt 4dr. I am not sure if it is because her battery is located in the trunk of the car so close to the Sub-woofer (hence the shorter power run) instead of under the hood, but with one of the seats laid forward that sucker can hit hard. Now Remember I am only running 4 ft of power cable from the battery to the box because of the proximity of cars battery...that may make a huge difference/deciding factor. But it is a A+ to me. Bless my wife's heart but the other day we had to make a run up to Fayetteville, Arkansas (2 hr drive). And She let me open it up and play both Metallica's, Ride The Lightening and Master Of Puppets back to back and I was VERY impressed with the Kick and enjoyment/quality. Recommend...Great Bang For the Buck..From Linkin Park to her Katy Perry....Very satisfied..
joseph  Aug 06, 2016
A
Yes this is a great addition if you are looking for something that is a noticable difference but doesn't break your trunk. As for adding it to your stock audio system I dont know if you have an aftermarket radio head unit but if you do it will be very easy. If you are just using your stock head unit, I would recommend an upgrade, however if there is a subwoofer wire you can just connect directly to that, otherwise you may find a wire that has 12 volts constant and do all your connections and stuff. As for the install it will pretty much be the same as a regular subwoofer, IE you still need to route the power wires and rca wires through the car, the only thing is you do not need to hook up the amp to the subwoofer as it is installed in the enclosure. Hope this helps!
preston  Aug 03, 2016
A
This will require some minor splicing into the speakers if you do not have an AUX out on the back of your head unit. Power has to be run from the battery and ground in the rear. I spent an hour and a half putting mine in. I also pulled up carpet and bumpers to hide all wires, so it is a quick install.
chad  Aug 03, 2016

THis accepts high level inputs so you should be able to tap into your speaker wires for a signal. I had it installed in an 08 eos and it helped the bass a lot. Vw'S have a lot of steel in the trunk behind your seats, so it does need to be turned up quite a bit to get the full effect.
james  Aug 03, 2016
A
Yes you can. I have a 2013 Jetta only without the Fender system. But you'll just need a line out converter that you hook to the speaker wires on the back of your radio and that will activate the audio to the subwoofer if you don't have RCA outputs on the radio. If your radio has RCA outputs, then you can just use those. You'll need an Amplifier wiring kit as well to power the subwoofer/built-in amp.

Like Gordon said probably any would work but here is my caution. Self powered units have a distinct advantage of being able to custom tune the amp/crossover/speaker/box. This yields a distinctly more efficient design since there are no variables. I have no idea how this particular box is designed but if you had a choice I would go with the original speaker even if it was a little more $$$.

Got this for my 02 Jetta. When tuning the subs amp, the only way I can get satisfactory bass is with the gain, x over, and boost all the way up. Without everything maxed out, it gives a little bass the speakers can't give, but doesn't at all give the bass you can "feel". I know this sub is only 300 watts, but heck I've heard 8" subs with more boom. Am I doing something wrong or is this just how the sub is?

Put in my sons Honda. We adjusted a little on the high side, but nothing over 75%. Stereo does need to be above 20 for it really to start thumping, but then will rattle the windows out of the car. I can't tell you why it's having to be maxed out.
matthew  Feb 23, 2016
A
It was kind of the same way with me. I had my bass control knob all the way up, with the bass boost turned up to about half. If you have your x over all the way up you arent going to get any bass because the x over will br eliminating all the bass frequencies. Turn the x over to about 30 or so and I didnt have to set my gain to anything because I found that it didnt change the sound for me all that much. I agree with you that you cannot really feel the bass unless you have a song bass boosted or a song that is high bass.

Im not positive about the jeep, but it fit in my VW jetta. As for thr highs and lows its actually pretty decent! The first time you listen to it and crank the volume it will bring a smile to your face. The only downside is that you will need to turn the bass boost up to about 6db out of 12 (or whatever half is) to get loud bass without distortion. Anything higher will distort easy snd anything lower will be less than satisfying, just in my opinion.

It comes with an adhesive strip that has velcro on one side. For me, It has stayed in place perfectly with only the strip, even through a wreck. The strip is slightly longer than the bottom of the subwoofer so you can even put it partially on the side so it cab stick on the side of your trunk for extra support.

Hi, Brendan. Well, this unit comes with the sub enclosure, the removable terminal block, remote control + wire, and mounting options. It does *not* come with the electrical equipment required to hook up the electrical connections. You will need to provide, at a minimum, 1) a power wire (see product info for recommended wire gauge), 2) signal wire from your HU to the sub and 3) ground connection. These last three wires/cables are *not* included with the Rockford P300-12 package, but from my understanding they are typical components in any of the "subwoofer wiring packages" that you can find on CF or anywhere else.

This is a powered sub so the AMP and everything is inside the box. You will need to purchase a wiring kit to wire it into your existing electrical. I ordered the following along with this Sub: Rockford Fosgate RFK4 Amplifier Wiring Kit 4 gauge Power Item #: 575RFK4 and Rockford Fosgate RFK8I Amplifier Wiring Kit 8 gauge Power Item #: 575RFK8I Also don't forget to get a distribution Block (not necessarily required if you're just doing a single sub).

Installing this in an 09 civic sedan with factory non nav system. Should I put a LC2i audio controller in the set up? I can't get a straight answer from anyone about bass reduction or avc in my car.
emmett  Apr 15, 2014

A
The LC2i is a great product, but not totally needed for this application.

I would say a major factor in whether or not you'll like it is what kind of music you listen to. I put it behind the back seats of an 09 Escape and I'm perfectly satisfied with it. I listen to, rock mostly, some punk and metal too. It's perfect for me. It adds feel to the kick drum/double bass, and fills out the rest of the frequencies well. If you're into rap and you're trying to go around bumping the neighborhood, this probably isn't what you're looking for. Keep in mind it has it's own separate volume knob so you can adjust the mix to your liking which is really nice. Overall I'd say it hits plenty hard enough for anyone not trying to be obnoxious.

Hi Caleb, I purchased this subwoofer, to fit in my F-150, regular cab. The sub sits behind both seats, facing the center armrest, about 2 inches away. I did a lot of research about ideal placement, with various custom installers. Ofcourse, the ideal situation would be to point the sub to an empty area (closed trunk or rear hatch), but unless you are looking to change vehicles, you must work with what you have. The reason I selected the 12" sub was to compensate for the environment. I am very happy with my choice. The large sub speaker moves a lot of air! The tight enclosure was pre-designed specifically for this sub. I enjoy the deep and strong bass! The 300 watt built in amp does the trick. Another advantage of having it right behind the seat, is that you can "feel" the bass. Check out the frequency range. It starts in the 30's. I think in your situation, with the soft top, you have no choice but to get power. 300 watts of sub, plus say 75+ from your door speakers, should drown much of the road noise. Compare the environment to a big and noisy concert auditorium. The closer you are to the stage and the music, the less the interruption from the crowd. I hope this helped. Good luck!

Thanks Richard, don't have much choice now I ordered it. Looks like I'll have to give it a chance, as long as I can hear good low notes and feel it some I'll probably be happy enough.... Have the distinct feeling it'll sound allot like a free air setup and just sound floppy, I've ran into this before.. I took a system out of a Pontiac sunfire that slammed very hard and put in into my Cherokee sport and is was night and day .... it sounded awful in the jeep

I just recently purchased this powered sub for a 84 mustang hatchback. I know your setup is totally different but I have been very pleased with the performance out of this 12" sub. Having a hard top as you well know helps the lows bounce around in the cabin, so I don't know if you will have the same luck with the soft top. I still say give it a try you might be suprised. :-)

The amp will not even turn on with out power from a remote wire. If your head unit does not have a REM wire the best solution is to run another power wire from your battery with a switch inline to turn your amp on and off on your own.

I have an 8 guage wiring kit already installed in my car to my trunk. I have the RCA cables already hooked up and a knob under my steering wheel. My remote turn on, ground wire, and power wire have copper wiring on the end of them. Is this set-up compatible and ready to go with this power sub?

It sounds like everything is there, but I would still recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone or online chat. They will be able to double check everything with you and make sure you'll be good to go.

Q
does the necessary wiring to connect to the cars speaker output come with the sub? in the photos, it looks like there is some kind of connector needed. I would be using speaker level connections. also, does this unit have a level sensing remote turn on, or does it need switched power? fords are hard to find a 12v switched power source. Unit comes with all wires .. it does have remote turn on but wasn't sensitive with my car so I had it hooked up to automatically turn on with the vehicle . Sound quality is amazing . Hooked it up to a 2003 Lexus ( factory system ) it made the factory system sound like an expensive custom system !! Very impressed !

If you going to tap off and use speaker level input your going to need a low/high input converter to wire this. I believe schorce makes one pretty cheap. And yes your going to need a 12v switched source to turn amp on & off with ignition. My recommendation is don't get this box. I had it for about a month and it just doesn't have enough volume especially if you have it in a trunk (can barely hear it even with it turned up.) I sold it to my buddy with a jeep & got a sub box, 2 fosgate 10's and a Hifonics amp all for cheaper online then what I paid for this setup & it's a night and day difference in sound and quality.

I just purchased it 2 weeks ago. it does not come with necessary wiring to connect. it still runs through the Subwoofer wiring kit that would need to be purchased separately. it does come with a level adjust dial that can be mounted pretty much anywhere in the car. As for the power, i understand it as a remote turn on with direct power supply through the subwoofer wiring kit

I stand corrected. A speaker-wire to RCA plug converter is included. No need for it but you will need RCA wires to run to the sub's location. So, everything you need to connect this unit is included in the packaging. A very well pre thought kit RF has offered. GL

I'll give it a stab. It requires a switched 12v power source. If you're stereo is equipped, connect it's blue antenna's switched power wire to the sub's switched power inlet. If I understand you correctly. You plan to use your speaker wires for the sub's signal input. You'll need a seperate speaker-wire to RCA plug converter. That is not included. Good luck,
