Overview

Our take on the Rockford Fosgate Punch P325.2

Rockford Fosgate keeps making a good thing better with Punch amps — and you'll find one for every type of car audio system, from mild to wild.

Rockford Fosgate keeps making a good thing better with Punch amps — and you'll find one for every type of car audio system, from mild to wild.

Rockford Fosgate continues its commitment to outstanding design with the 2-channel Punch P325.2 amplifier. Specially-designed transistors perform better than the "off-the-shelf" models most manufacturers use. Additional heatsink material keeps these critical power components running cooler, reducing distortion and increasing amp efficiency.

The P325.2 delivers the power you need to kick up the performance of full-range or component speakers, or you can run it in single-channel mode to send 325 watts to your subwoofer. The variable frequency filters adapt the amplifier to fit the job at hand, while the wired Punch Bass EQ kicks up the lows when it's time to get the car shaking.

Great clean sounding amp. Price is outstanding for the quality.

PAC C2R-VW / SWI-CAN The subs are 350 watts RMS bridged, and with the amps being bridged, it's a perfect fit. I really enjoy it. The bass hits hard and clean for my GTI. The amps and the subs are perfect for each other. The amps look clean, easy to work with, and even have a cover to go over all the connectors to make everything protected and organized. I would recommend this if you want a good sound system that will not cost to much and not make you go absolutely deaf.

Cool running amp that sounds great. I liked it so much I bought a second and bridged it for my Bazooka. Flexible low & high pass filters allows for tailoring the sound to the particular speaker configuration. For the price, truly an excellent value.

System Setup: - stock F-150 6 CD changer w/ PAC line-out converter - Rockford Fosgate Punch 325.2 amp - 2 MTX 4500 10" subs This is an awesome amp. Let's just say you get your money worth and more. Crystal clear sound with no distortion or noise. Came with one year warranty and got an additional year by using the Rockford Fosgate amp kit. My friends are jealous that I can out perform their $2,000 systems.

Good amp for the $. I have a custom box for my '07 Dodge Ram Quad cab so I'm limited on space and I could get a lot more out of a bigger box but I got it pushing two 10" Fosgate Punch Stage 2 subs. Had it professionally installed and tuned and wasn't getting too much out of the system but when I bridged the subs from the amp (LIKE I TOLD THE INSTALLER TO DO IN THE FIRST PLACE) it brought out all of the sub's potential. Sounds great.

Great 2 channel amp! In my car you will hear Celtic Woman one day, Fear Factory, the next, Rascal Flatts the next and maybe Styx the next. The point is, no matter what genre music you listen to, this amp delivers. Clarity, power, dynamics, it has it all. Even talk radio (Stern) seems clearer, not neccesarily louder just easier to hear over road noise. One last thing, after several disapointing purchases from other web electronic stores, I'm sticking with Crutchfield, several purchases over the last couple years....No Issues!

small amp with lots of power

Written by: Tyler from Hawaii on October 9, 2008

This amp far exceeds me expectations. I originally bought this amp to power my components but now I run a 12 inch solobaric L7 off this amp and it powers it well. This amp has more power tham my alpine m-450 which i sold once i tried this amp. My only complaint is that the screw for the cover stripped the first time I tried to make adjustments, it's only cosmetic and an easy fix.

it took me a long time to decide on an amp. but when i did i was glad that i purchased this amp. I have it pushing a JL w1 in a power wedge box, and does it work perfect. the amp doesnt heat up hardly at all. The remote bass knob comes in handy for the different types of music i listen to. Great amp and you can not beat the price.

I paired this with the fosgate P1L-112 ported sub from crutchfield and had the whole setup professionally installed in my 03 s-10 and they work great together. I didn't have much space or need for anything more than 1 12" sub but i wanted it, and this amp will def. make a sub hit for you, especially in a small space like mine.

I purchased this amp with a single 12" Stage 1 Sub, QLogic box and installed along with a new Kenwood head unit in a 2001 Volvo S40. I cannot believe how great that it sounds in this car. So far I have not added an amp to the existing factory speakers, but WOW!... The first sub I bought was defective, but with Crutchfield's fantastic customer service, I had a new one in about three days.....There communication and customer service are something that more businesses need to take note of........Cheers! Crutchfield....keep up the good work.

I recently purchased this amp to push a 10" JL W3 sub and let me tell you that this amp does the job. I have the sub in an enclosed box and no matter what music you like or how loud you want it RF amps keep on going without any strain. And, when it comes to overheating...there is no issue. Bang for your buck or the performance...either way you look at it you get the best of both worlds here!!! Thanks Crutchfield you made it a no brainer!!

this amp works perfect and the looks match it's performance. i love the wired remote control for the db boost. the sound with the boost turned all the way up is surperb. you don't get the normal excessive bass droning you would expect. i am running a 10'' jl audio sub in a matched box from jl. i would recommend this amp to any one and the price is awesome to boot. the crutchfield team is amazing with their technical support center( they were very helpful in picking the correct amp with what i am using in my vechicle.) the super quick shipping is awesome as well. my friends now buy from crutchfield and i won't buy from anywhere else. thanks again.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

never had a problem with this amp. it does what it does very well. i have it running 2 12" p1 fosgates that use up to 300 rms. this does 325. it pushes them very well. i dont have preamp outputs in my car and am having to use a line output converter and it sounds great. think it will still be better with preamp though. as far as the "power on" wire, i have it jerry rigged to my windshield wiper fuse and have a manual on/off switch on the wire right by my knee which comes in handy when i need to supa shutdown. also the great bonus of having a wired bass boost which i also have mounted by my knee comes in handy when going from rock to rap and vice versa. my only complaint with the bass boost is that it is centered at 45hz. why? why can it not be centered and be more like the gain. cant complain though because that is standard. it basically pushes your super lows. which is half of what is coming out of the subs anyways. it is a very solid peice of equipment and although i have felt it get pretty warm pretty quick, i know it will shut itself off if neccessary so i run it hard all the time and it has never quit or stalled or anything bad on me. i wrote this review to be helpful so i hope it was. enjoy. ps this was my first amp. was very satisfied even though unexperienced

Great amp, great price and good features. I am using it on one Punch 10 series 2 and it thumps it like there is two of em. I am using it on a factory stereo so I had to get an adapter for the RCA input. The remote is espesially handy for factory stereos so you can turn the bass up at higher levels.

Features

Removable Cover: The Rockford Fosgate Punch P325.2 amplifier features a removable terminal cover. It conceals all speaker, signal, remote, power, and ground connections, as well as the gain and crossover frequency controls for a cleaner installation.

Cast Aluminum Heatsink: The Focused Mass cast aluminum heatsink dissipates heat generated by the amplifier's circuitry. The inherent advantage of casting provides a 30% improvement of cooling over conventional extrusion heatsink designs.

INDIGO (INDexed Ideal Gain Operation): The INDIGO PWM (pulse width modulation) power supply is designed to make the most of the situation it is presented with. When battery voltage is low, you are guaranteed to get the power you paid for. When voltage increases, the amp makes even more power.

MEHSA (Maximum Efficiency Heat Sink Application): MEHSA is a Rockford Fosgate proprietary process that increases the heat transfer from the MOSFET devices to the heatsink. The multi-layer insulated metal MEHSA substrate operates with minimal thermal resistance, spreading heat both downward and outward to quickly dissipate heat from each device across the heatsink. This allows greater power output, enhanced thermal stability, and maximum reliability.

TOPAZ (Tracking Operation Pre-Amplifier Zone): TOPAZ is a circuit that eliminates noise. The TOPAZ circuit prevents ground loops by allowing the output impedance of the source unit to determine the signal ground impedance the amp sees. This virtually assures that the signal ground out of the head unit and the signal input ground of the amplifier are identical, eliminating any chance for a ground loop. The result is a 30-40dB improvement of the isolation between input ground and chassis ground.

Trans-ANA (TRANSconductance Active Nodal Amplifier): The trans-ANA is a circuit that allows the audio signal to pass through the amplifier at low voltage. The signal is directly level-shifted to the fixed high voltage rails via a pair of drive transistors. Signal linearity is assured by an active node formed  by the drive transistors at ultrasonic frequencies. The result is crystal clear sound quality.

NOMAD (NOn-Multiplying Advanced Decision): NOMAD is an intelligent protection circuit that uses an analog computer to make real time decisions regarding temperature, voltage, current and impedance. The unit is protected without limiting sound output unless needed.

DSM (Discrete Surface Mount): In the manufacturing process high speed robotics are used to place 0% tolerance resistors and large board traces providing greater reliability and efficiency.

TO-247 MOSFET: The Punch P325.2 utilizes ultra high performance MOSFET output devices, giving the amplifier more power handling capability as well as lower thermal impedance for more reliable operation, even under the harshest load conditions.

Internal Crossover: The amplifier's internal crossover is a 12dB/octave Butterworth filter selectable for high-pass, all-pass (full range) or low-pass operation variable from 40Hz to 400Hz.

Remote Punch Bass: The Punch Bass helps correct for acoustical deficiencies in the listening environment by helping reproduce full range sound without adding excessive boost. The Punch Bass control has a narrow band adjustment centered at 45Hz, variable from 0dB to +18dB. The supplied Punch Bass wired remote can be mounted in a variety of locations. The module's case can be removed and positioned with the mounting bracket above or below the module. Without the case the module can be flush mounted in your vehicle's dash (requires a 2" x 7/8" cutout with a maximum panel thickness of 3/8"). The wired remote is 2.294" wide, 1.293" tall and 1.509" deep (2.606" including the knob and cable connection). The included cable is 16.25' long.

RCA Pass-Thru Jacks: The pass-thru jacks provide a convenient source for daisy-chaining an additional amplifier without running an extra set of RCA cables from the front of the vehicle to the amplifier location. The pass-thru jacks output a full-range signal.

Power Indicator and Protection LEDs: There are three LEDs on the top of the amplifier. A blue LED illuminates when the unit is turned on. A yellow Protect LED illuminates if a short circuit or too low an impedance is detected at the speaker connections. A red Thermal LED illuminates if the amplifier overheats. The amplifier will automatically shut down if either the yellow or red LED indicates amplifier trouble.

Input and Output Notes

Power Connections: The power and ground terminals are nickel-plated captive c-clamp wire connectors and will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire. The remote turn-on terminal will accept wire sizes of 12- to 24-gauge. A Phillips-head or slotted screwdriver (not supplied) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals.

Speaker Connections: The nickel-plated clamp wire connectors will accept wire sizes of 8- to 18-gauge. A Phillips-head or slotted screwdriver (not supplied) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals.

Remote Punch Bass Connection: An RJ-45 jack is provided for connecting the supplied Remote Punch Bass cable.

Specifications

CEA-2006 Compliance: The specifications given by Rockford Fosgate for the Punch P325.2 amplifier comply with the new CEA-2006 Amplifier Power Standard from the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association). All manufacturers who comply with the standard can display the CEA-2006 logo on their product.

Performance Verification Certificate: Each amplifier comes with a Performance Verification Certificate which lists the results of a 10-point performance inspection as well as a measurement of the actual power output of that amp.

Warranty

Extended Warranty: A one year warranty extension, for a total of two years, is provided by Rockford Fosgate when this amp is wired using a qualifying Rockford Fosgate amplifier wiring kit. Qualifying wiring kits include CP8PO, CP8PI, CP4POS, and CP4CKDS.
