Rockford Fosgate builds Punch Series Stage 3 subwoofers with advanced cooling technology and bulletproof cone materials so they'll give you years of trouble-free bass reinforcement.

Fiber cones deliver some of the truest low tones you'll ever hear, and they're reinforced with Kevlar® to add serious backbone to the rich sound quality. The extra-tall poly-ether-ester surround extends cone excursion, which translates into lows that are full and robust. A colossal 102-ounce magnet calls the shots, keeping cone movement under tight control for high accuracy.

The P3D412 12" subwoofer features a die-cast aluminum frame, motor cover, and trim ring, providing excellent heat transfer and reliable toughness. Rockford Fosgate's "Venturi-effect" design increases airflow through the sub's center area for maximum cooling. You get a sub that'll deliver long term performance and competition-worthy bass, even if you're only competing in the parking lot at the local shopping center.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

Ear Splitting Volume

Written By Brandon S., Oregon, OH on Wednesday, May 04, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had 2 Polk Audio DB series subs that were getting well worn after 5 years of
use, so I started looking for a sub with a little more umf behind it since I was
gonna replace the Polks anyways. I looked at buying the Polk SR series, but the
price tag was a little more than I could afford at the time so I settled with 2 of
these from Rockford. I have a 1200 watt Polk Audio PA1200.1 amp powering
both wired at 1ohm in a chambered sealed box, and now that they have been
through their breakin period the volume is rarely subtle. These slam hard and
are very clear even at high levels. I'm very impressed and would recommend
these to anyone looking for a little more low end punch!!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought two of these and a sound ordance ported box. I have a rockford P1000-1bd mono amplifier and a boss 2 farrad cap hooked up to them in a 2009 pontiac G6 GT with a monsoon sound system and an alpine headunit. My front window looks like it wants to come off!! I have put my friends two 1000watt 500 RMS Kicker Comp CVR'S to shame in a 2007 300M with a alpine 1000 watt amp and a rockford 2 farrad cap. These are well worth the money and Crutchfield helped every step with my wiring. BUY THESE!

I bought one of these put it in a vented box and it slams hard. It can handle anything that I throw at it. Very good quality subwoofer, I would really recommend buying this subwoofer.

My system:
Pioneer DEH-M4700MP
4"x6" Infinity REF6432CF
6"x9" Alpine Type R
12" Rockford Fosgate P3 in vented box
Rockford Prime R500.1

These subs beat thats all I have to say, very impressed with the sound quality and the price. I have two 12's powered by a RFG P5002 and they still sound great. I could use a lil more power but they still beat. With the JVC Kameleon Im straight!!!

very happy. I'm pushin'em with 2 t-500bd fosgate mono amps.

Written By Jeep_is_King, Waukesha, Wisconsin on Saturday, July 19, 2008

I have 2 of these in a sealed box powered by the RF 1000.1bd in the trunk of my jeep. Holy cow are these things loud. I was pullin into my friends neighborhood one time, and i had them at about half volume because i felt like being nice to the neighboorhood that day, and when i parked in his driveway one of his neighbors came up to me from across the street and told me to turn it down when i came through because his house windows were shaking and i woke up their baby after they had just gotten him to sleep. OOPS. If you turn them up past 3/4 volume, you basically have to have a window at least cracked because the pressure these things generate will leave your ears sore for 2 days if you dont. These are the best subs for the money youre gonna find, so stop lookin.

volvo s80 upgrade

Written By 1badS80, sacramento on Wednesday, June 04, 2008

I started with a 08 kicker750.1 pushing two new 12 kicker comps and a 2
farad cap. in my 06 Volvo S80 and it sounded alright but wife gave the ok
to spend more money So I dropped the 12" Kicker comps added 2 P312d4
in a sealed box added a second 08 kicker750.1 wired the subs to run at 2
ohms with 1 amp per sub, add another 5 farad cad and I replaced my mid
bass stock with 2 kicker SSMP8 mid bas subs and a 08 kicker250.2 pushing
them and bought the new 08 kicker crossover to tie it all together. After
two weeks of mild play I laid into it at home in my guarage to complete final
adjustments and wife forced me to turn it off and with in 10 min a police
showed up do to a few calls of a party that was out of control. I showed
him the system I installed we laughed and he said have fun and left. Wish
it was that easy with the wife LOL. I am going to add this same set up to
my Audi TT after everything arrives

Rockford Fosgate is the Best

Written By Tim, Naubinway, Michigan on Friday, February 29, 2008

I have two of these subwoofers in the trunk of my 1997 Dodge Intrepid in a vented/ported box. I am powering them with a Sony XM-D9001 amp that is giving them 900 watts rms. All I have to say is these things pound my car like crazy. It will play louder, longer and lower than any of my friends systems, including two Rockford P1 15s, 2 Sony Xplod 12s, 3 JL Audio 10s and 2 sony 15s. If you have a loose spot on your car these subs will find it no problem. i cant use my rearview mirror due to the power of these speakers, i cant stand to have my radio on higher than 50 (my radio will go to 80).

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These subs are great. I had the previous model and sold them because of how much better these look. I have them in a chambered sealed box powered by a p8002 and they hit hard enough to set off car alarms 20 yards away!! RF has done a great job again!!

Enclosure Compatibility

Dual 4-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 4-ohm voice coils that offer flexibility in wiring. When the voice coils are wired in parallel with each other, the woofer presents a 2-ohm mono load. When the voice coils are wired in series with each other, the woofer presents a 8-ohm mono load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 4-ohm load.

Woofer: The cone is constructed of Kevlar Fiber reinforced semi-pressed paper. The combination of these materials provide increased power handling capability, exceptional low bass response and long lasting durability.

Parabolic Cone Geometry Support System: By bonding a ABS/Acrylic parabolic dust cap of equivalent size to the cone body, a balanced geometrical structure is created. This system reduces piston flex and eliminates cone distortion.

High Excursion Tall Profile Surround: A tall profile, high excursion Poly-ether-ester surround allows for maximum linear travel without reducing overall piston size giving you the highest SPL levels possible.

High-Temp Voice Coils: The woofer uses a 2.5", 4-layer, high-temp, aluminum former or voice-coil with spun-lace Nomex reinforcement collars to provide excellent heat dissipation and SPL capabilities unlike many other plastic substitutes.

Dual Linear Spider with Vented Spider Cavity: A compliant dual linear spider improves mechanical stability under high excursion, maintaining consistent excursion characteristics. This eliminates the need for a "break-in period." The vented spider cavity helps improve the woofer's overall heat dissipation.

Double Stacked Magnet Motor Assembly: The stacked magnet assembly is used to create a powerful linear motor with increased excursion capability for superior bass output.

Optimized Motor Magnetics: The Punch3 woofer uses an extended pole piece and bumped backplate design to optimize its performance.

Venturi-Effect Cooling: The "Venturi-Effect" is created by gradually reducing the air-flow exhaust path area, which increases the air speed across the key thermal components of the speaker's motor parts maximizing cooling effectiveness. The benefit of the "Venturi-Effect" is the reduction of voice coil temperatures, substantially improving thermal dissipation, and improving overall reliability.

Basket: The Rockford Punch3 woofer features a sturdy die-cast aluminum frame which adds rigidity and eliminates multiple acoustic resonances.

Cast Aluminum Motor Cover: The woofer features a protective die-cast aluminum motor and magnet cover for improved heat dissipation.

Spring Post Assembly: The woofer features a custom insulated/isolated compression input terminal assembly with attached flexible, 16-gauge stitched tinsel lead wires that can withstand extreme duty cycles, fatigue and high current. The heavy-duty 10-gauge nickel spring posts will accept pin connectors and bare wire.

Decorative Ring: For an added decorative look the woofer comes supplied with a PVC decorative ring that mounts over the flange of the woofer. When using the PVC ring the woofer is first mounted into place with eight screws and then the ring is set on top the woofer, aligning the final four holes of the woofer with ring. The other four screws are used for these holes to mount the ring and woofer to the enclosure. The decorative ring increases the top-mounting height of the woofer to 1.0625".

Reverse Mounting: The Rockford Punch woofer can be mounted in either direction. The aluminum decorative ring that is supplied with the woofer provides an easy and cosmetically finished look regardless of the mounting direction.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Rockford Fosgate range from 0.75 cu/ft to 1.25 cu/ft. Within this range, the ideal size recommended by Rockford Fosgate is 1.0 cu/ft, so this is the enclosure recommended by Crutchfield.

Recommended Vented Box Volume: The vented box size recommended by Rockford Fosgate is 1.79 cu/ft, so this is the enclosure recommended by Crutchfield. One 4" diameter x 10" long port should be used with the 1.79 cu/ft enclosure.
