Advanced engineering

The P3SD2-12 shallow-mount 12" sub hangs with its bigger brethren, thanks to advanced materials and engineering. Rockford uses an anodized aluminum cone and dust cap that makes the woofer light and easier to drive, yet rigid enough to maintain its shape when you turn it up loud. The M-Roll Santoprene™ surround also provides excellent excursion for maximum output while being durable enough to last.

Powerful bass for a tight space

A low-profile frame houses the sub, with abundant venting to battle overheating and thermal breakdown. At 3-11/16 inches deep, this sub will fit into places where no bass has gone before — just build a custom enclosure or find a suitable box. The dual 2-ohm voice coils allow you to wire up multiple subs or to coax optimum performance from your amplifier.

Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Shallow Mount Design: The Rockford Fosgate Punch P3SD series shallow subwoofers are designed and engineered with a more shallow motor assembly which reduces the overall depth of the woofer, allowing it to fit in smaller locations in your vehicle. The P3SD2-12 uses an anodized aluminum cone and Santoprene surround. An anodized aluminum voice coil former and spider venting help keep the subwoofer cool.

Dual Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 2-ohm voice coils for wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents a 4-ohm load.

CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling on the P3SD2-12 subwoofer conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards. This means the subwoofer has the capacity to handle power under continuous demand, not instantaneous power handling, that over time, can damage voice coils.

FlexFit Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

VAST Surround: The Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) increases a speaker's effective radiating cone area without increasing the size of the basket.

Anodized Aluminum Voice Coil Former: Aluminum voice coil formers offer superior heat dissipation over other commonly used materials. The hard-anodized finish increases the former strength. These two factors combine to improve the overall power handling characteristics of the subwoofer.

Spring Post Assemblies: The woofer features custom insulated/isolated compression input terminals with attached flexible, 16-gauge stitched tinsel lead wires that can withstand extreme duty cycles, fatigue and high current. The heavy-duty spring posts will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, and bare wire up to 10-gauge.

Trim Ring: For added cosmetic appeal the woofer comes with an aluminum trim ring that mounts over the flange of the woofer. When using the trim ring, the woofer is first mounted with four screws, then the ring is mounted over the woofer, aligning the final four holes of the woofer with ring. The other four screws are used in these holes to mount the ring and woofer to the enclosure. The trim ring increases the top-mounting height of the woofer to approximately one inch and the ring diameter is 13-3/8 inches.

Break-In Period: Due to the design of the Rockford Fosgate P3 Shallow subwoofer, a 24 to 48 hour break-in period is required to allow for maximum excursion and low frequency extension. The shallow woofer suspension is intentionally designed to optimize once the internal components are exercised under normal music listening conditions.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box size range recommended by Rockford Fosgate is 0.60 to 1.20 cubic feet. Within this range, the ideal recommended size is 1.0 cubic feet, resulting in a 3dB down point of 40 Hz and a Qtc of 1.01.

Vented Box Volume: The vented box size recommended by Rockford Fosgate is 1.25 cubic feet. One 4" diameter x 12" long port should be used, resulting in a tuning frequency of 42.5 Hz and a 3dB down point of 34 Hz.

Customer Q&A

Q
I have 2 of these with a Rockford fosgate R2-1200x1. Is the amp too big? How should I wire the subs? Bridge them to be at 2 ohms total at 800rms or separate channels at 4 ohms 400rms?
john  Jan 21, 2024

A
Greetings John. Thank you for your question. Two of these dual voice coil 2 ohms subs wired up can either be 2 ohms at the amp, or 8 ohms, very few will wire these to be 8 ohms. The R1200 at 2 ohms puts out 800 watts, each sub gets their rated 400 watts at the same time, so its a perfect match really. For the how to wire your subs, we have tech support as long as you purchased the amp or subs from us. Their direct number will be on your shipping confirmation email. if you got this all somewhere else, below is a link to all our subwoofer wiring diagrams. https://www.crutchfield.com/learn/learningcenter/car/subwoofers_wiring.html

Q
If I have 2 and my amp runs 500 watts rms will the 250 watts to each sub severely under power it?
jacob  May 21, 2020

A
I'd highly recommend running a stronger amp since the woofer is rated 600 watts RMS, always better to over power than to under power! What amp are you using to push the woofers?

Q
How do i wire my 2 RF P3sd2-12 speakers in parralell? and i have. A RF amp 700watts is that enough powere for the pair?
michael  Nov 14, 2017
1 answer
A
Depends on the ohms of the speakers.Your amp may not handle parallel if they are 2 ohm speakers. But if they can you just run positive to positive and positive to the next speaker positive and do the same thing for the negative negative from the ant to negative on the speaker and a negative from the speaker to negative on the other speaker

Q
What is the Rms on these at 1 ohm and 4 ohm?
jake  Apr 09, 2015
1 answer
A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The sub handles 400 watts RMS. The power handling on the sub doesn't change with the how the voice coils are wired to present either 1 or 4 ohms to the amp. You just need to make sure the impedance matches the amplifier capability and the RMS output of the amp matches at the correct impedance. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
