Advanced engineering

The P3SD4-8 8" shallow subwoofer hangs with its bigger brethren, thanks to advanced materials and engineering. Rockford uses anodized aluminum for the cone and dust cap making the woofer light and easier to drive, yet rigid enough to maintain its shape under maximum load. The M-Roll Santoprene™ surround also provides excellent excursion for maximum output while being durable enough to last.

Powerful bass for a tight space

A low-profile frame houses the subwoofer, with abundant venting to battle overheating and thermal breakdown. At 2-5/8 inches deep, this sub will fit into places where no bass has gone before — just build a custom enclosure or find a suitable box. The dual 4-ohm voice coils allow you to wire up multiple subs or to coax optimum performance from your amplifier.

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Shallow Mount Design: The Rockford Fosgate Punch P3S shallow subwoofer is designed and engineered with a more shallow motor assembly, reducing the overall depth of the woofer and allowing it to fit in smaller locations in your vehicle.

Dual Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 4-ohm voice coils for wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8-ohm load.

Compression Terminals: The P3SD4-8 features spring post terminals which accommodate pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare speaker wire up to 10 gauge.

Note: The rubber magnet cover may need removed (or repositioned) to insert pin connectors or banana plugs.

CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards, meaning the subwoofer has the capacity to handle its rated power under continuous demand, not just for an instant.

VAST Surround: The Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) increases a speaker's effective radiating cone area without increasing the size of the basket.

FlexFit Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

Trim Ring: For added cosmetic appeal the woofer comes with an aluminum trim ring that mounts over the flange of the woofer. When using the trim ring, the woofer is first mounted with four screws, then the ring is mounted over the woofer, aligning the final four holes of the woofer with the ring. The other four screws are used in these holes to mount the ring and woofer to the enclosure. The trim ring increases the mounting height of the woofer to approximately 1 inch, and the ring's diameter is approximately 9 inches.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Rockford recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 0.25 cubic feet (from 0.2 to 0.70 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: Rockford recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 0.75 cubic feet using one 3" diameter x 9" long port; this yields a tuning frequency of 47.5 Hz. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output (below 37 Hz).

Q
I have a 2014 ram 3500. I know this will fit in the factory sub box but is it if and play or will I need to get an aftermarket amp and run new wire?
daegan  Jul 08, 2023

A
The stock subwoofer is a DVC 2 ohm model which means this Rockford Fosgate subwoofer will not even get the same watts from the stock amp as the stock subwoofer got. This subwoofer should be installed with a new amp to power it.

Q
I'm looking to upgrade the shallow depth 8" dvc sub in a B&O package bronco while retaining the factory amp/DSP. I haven't quite figured out the power output from that 6 channel 660W amp, but I'm going to assume it's a straight 110W/channel. Might this be the sub I'm looking for?

At this time, we have not been able to research the factory subwoofer in the new Ford Broncos to know what can fit the factory space and to find out what the ohms need to be to work with the stock amp. We do not know if this subwoofer will work with the stock amp. That may change in the future and I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to check

How would I install this on a 2019 Sonata Limited 2.0T with a factory amp and sub? I would want to replace the stock sub with this in the rear deck.

Q
will this work for a 2011 toyota tundra with JBL system?
jonathan t  Nov 05, 2022

A
This sweet Rockford Fosgate P3SD4-8 Punch Stage 3 shallow sub is a good physical fit Jonathan in 2011 Crewmax Tundra's with the JBL subwoofer. You will have to re-drill the speaker screw mount holes or use self-tapping screws with any replacement sub. The factory sub is a single coil, 2-ohm speaker so this dual coil 4 ohm is the good choice!

How will this work out in my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee altitude?
cary  Sep 07, 2022

A
Greetings Cary, and thank you for your question. Technically it will fit the factory subwoofer enclosure, but its going to need more power than the factory amp has to give. Unless you are going to add an amplifier, dont replace the factory subwoofer.

I got a 2017 300s with the beats audio sub Would I need to change the amp if I switch to the Rockford Fosgate P3SD4-8 ?

You will likely want to add a new amp to power that Rockford P3 adequately. The Rockford Punch 300X1 would be a good choice: https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rET1c290/p_575P300X1/Rockford-Fosgate-Punch-P300X1.html?tp=35834

I would change the amp to at least a 100 watt rms amp. I am running mine at 150 amp rms in a vented box and it kicks butt! (Also get the right adapter to run the amp.( I'm using the AP4-CH21 for my car (at Crutchfield)).

Im not really sure because I don't know what's your complete sound system set up. I don't know what your trying to achieve with your sound system as far as sound quality or SPl!!! Your would have to go more in depth as to what your trying to do with a CRUTCHFIELD CARAUDIO expert!!!

I have a 2019 Civic Sport Touring with a stock sub. It has I think a 75w stock amp. I was able to just splice the speaker wires going to the stock sub and wire it to this one. Best to check the forums to see what kind of stock harness goes to your stock sub. If its just +/- than it should work. FYI It sounded a little nicer but no where near its actual potential. Not sure how powerful your 300s's stock amp is.

There is 1.5" of space between the floor of my vehicle and the bottom of the box. Will this subwoofer work or will the cone hit the floor?
travis  Feb 04, 2014

I would need more info. What box? What vehicle? Are you looking to mount this as a free air woofer firing down at the floor? If so, you would need to the woofer excursion spec. (the distance the woofer travels)
mitchell  Feb 13, 2014
A
I'm really not understanding why the distance from the box to the bottom of your vehicle matters about this woofer working. My question to you is, are you concerned about the Woofer fitting in the Box or the Box fitting in you Vehicle?
