Dynamic Thermal Management
The award-winning "Dynamic Thermal Management" 3-stage cooling system uses forced air to dissipate heat evenly across the amp and out through the heatsink. MEHSA cooling process
MEHSA is a Rockford Fosgate proprietary process that increases the heat transfer from the MOSFET devices to the heatsink. This allows the heat to escape more readily from the amplifier, so that the transistors stay cooler.
P500-2 Punch performance
The P500-2 2-channel amplifier dispenses 125 watts RMS per channel to your speaker system, or you can bridge it to send 500 watts to a sub. You can tailor the sound with variable-frequency high- and low-pass filters, and use the onboard EQ to add some high- and low-frequency punch to compensate for your car's acoustics. An optional wired remote control lets you tweak the sound from the front seat for quick adjustments while you're on the road.

My system has plenty of power. Who needs an amp?
You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system.

First off performance sheet says-actual power (RMS)-223x2 @4ohms--359x2@2ohms --718x1@4ohms total RMS Power 718 --max power (is a joke)2153 I am a seasoned amp installer and I am currently running 2 12 inch fosgate P2's so I got both 4ohm coils to run at 2ohms per speaker one speaker to each channel getting that 359x2 I've owned several fosgate amps and their pretty good at running each channel at 2 ohms It pounds those 12's good for the money hands down this amp is worth it the only thing i can knock on this is that the top plate with logo on it feels like cheap plastic the amp is solid and heavy just that top plate.
Rockford Fosgate Punch P500-2
Just got this in today, this thing says rated at 500w RMS at 4 ohms, my birth sheet says mine topped out at 716 watts RMS at 4 ohms, and 2148 watts max at 2 ohms. I bought this amp for the purpose of not overpowering my subs, but it does, and it's incredible. The lows are so much smoother and deeper than amps of similar power i have heard before. Very Impressed. My car is all RF equipment now except for the deck and the subs. Subs are JL and the deck is a very high end JVC. I will most likely be purchasing RF subs now.
There is just no other amp like the RF P500-2

This is my 4th amp from RF, and the 4th Generation too. I've had all generations and they just keep getting better. I had the 3rd gen P450.2 and thought it was bad so I purchased this one. It turned out that I had a bad AGU fuse so now I have an extra amp. This bad boy rocks to power the RF T110D2 Sub - 600W RMS. I set the gain to 7, LP at around 400 Hz, and punch bass to about 80%. I have the Pioneer 9800BT so I can control almost all functions on the amp/sub and when I turned this bad boy on, I could see myself smiling all the way. RF forever, tried, tested and proven over and over again.
Tight, powerful,controlled,quality power you can afford thats what this rockford amp is, rated at 500 rms bridged, my birth sheet says factory bench tested at 600 plus rms, name another company that you can easily find at good audio outlet store thats not afraid to show there guts of every model of there amp on there website, name one brand/company that fits into that category. I used paired mine with an Alpine Type R 12inch very nice sounds perfect to me. Rockford quality and performance is legendary inside and out, they dont rely just on there reputation, they keep makeing high quality powerful amps from there very first amps to even the current models. Unlike mtx which used to be good back in the old school days 80's and 90's, and then there quality dropped like rocks inside and out, and they just seemed to ride there reputation for all it's worth downgradeing there quality inside and out for more profit. Alpine i can only reccomend there MRD series of amps which they dont make anymore the rest is made of low quality components. JL is high quality, but not there TMA stuff, overpriced for the power you get, and they seem to have reliablity issues,not uncommon read the forums.
I bought this amp to power my 2 10" P3 subs. I was a bit skeptical when i first got it because i wasn't sure if it would be able to put out the power required. I was dead wrong. This amp says 500w, but at their lab it was tested at 700+. This amp can do much more than I thought. I pound it every day and not once has it turned off on me. I had the 550x2 which was the old model and it copped out on me. Its been strong for 2 years now and doesnt show any sign of stopping. I highly reccommend this amp, and for this price, you cant go wrong.

Rockford Fosgate P500-2 I had this for 2 years now So Far REAL Good...Clean Sound hard hitting no complaints "NEVER UNDER ESTIMATE THE POWER of THIS AMP. I've Blown many SUBS such as a KICKER 15" CVX 4ohms KICKER 12" L7 Solo-Baric 4ohms (BLOWN). I upgraded to a KICKER 15" L7 4ohms (BLOWN) as well just today April 10, 2010 im BUMMED ! But, now looking in on buying a KICKER SOLO X 12" 4-ohms or a JL AUDIO W7 13.5
I have this amp powering two 12's in a sealed box and they still pound
crazy. I am very impressed with the power this amp kicks out, and for the
price you can't go wrong. I could use a lil more power but this amp does
the job no problem.

Cast Aluminum Heatsink: The cast aluminum heatsink dissipates heat generated by the amplifier's circuitry. The inherent advantage of casting provides a 30% improvement of cooling over conventional extrusion heatsink designs.
Dynamic Thermal Management (DTM): DTM Evenly distributes excess heat across entire amplifier heatsink.
MEHSA³ (Maximum Efficiency Heat Sink Application-Third Generation): MEHSA is a Rockford Fosgate proprietary process that increases the heat transfer from the MOSFET devices to the heatsink. The multi-layer insulated metal MEHSA substrate operates with minimal thermal resistance, spreading heat both downward and outward to quickly dissipate heat from each device across the heatsink. This allows greater power output, enhanced thermal stability, and maximum reliability.
Trans-ANA (TRANSconductance Active Nodal Amplifier): Trans-ANA is a circuit that allows the audio signal to pass through the amplifier at low voltage. The signal is directly level-shifted to the fixed high voltage rails via a pair of drive transistors. Signal linearity is assured by an active node formed by the drive transistors at ultrasonic frequencies. The result is crystal clear sound quality.
NOMAD (NOn-Multiplying Advanced Decision): NOMAD is an intelligent protection circuit that uses an analog computer to make real time decisions regarding temperature, voltage, current and impedance. The unit is protected without limiting sound output unless needed.
TO-247 MOSFET: The Punch 500-2 utilizes ultra high performance MOSFET output devices, giving the amplifier more power handling capability as well as lower thermal impedance for more reliable operation, even under the harshest load conditions.
DSM (Discrete Surface Mount): In the manufacturing process high speed robotics are used to place 1% tolerance parts and large board traces. DSM improves the efficiency of the circuit, decreases cross-talk from other discrete components and lowers operating temperature.
Power and Protection LEDs: The LEDs are located on top of the amplifier. A blue Power LED illuminates when the amplifier is turned on. A red Thermal LED illuminates if the amplifier overheats. The yellow Protect LED illuminates if a short circuit or too low an impedance is detected at the speaker connections. When any of the protection circuits engage, the amp automatically shuts down until the problem is corrected.
Internal Crossover: The amplifier's internal crossover has a 12 dB/octave slope. It's selectable for high-pass, all-pass (full range), or low-pass operation and is variable from 50Hz to 500Hz.
Punch EQ: Punch EQ works along with the crossover switch. When the crossover is set to low-pass, the Punch EQ acts as a variable bass boost; 0-18 dB at 45 Hz. When the crossover is set to high-pass, the Punch EQ acts as variable treble boost, 0-12 dB at 12 kHz. When the crossover is set to all-pass, both the bass and treble boost circuits are active.
Power Connections: The power and ground terminals are nickel-plated captive c-clamp wire connectors and will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire. An external 100-amp fuse (not included) must be installed on the power wire. If a wiring kit is used which includes a fuse with a value other than 100-amps, the original should be replaced with a 100-amp fuse. The remote turn-on terminal will accept wire sizes of 12- to 24-gauge. A Phillips-head or slotted screwdriver (not supplied) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals.
Differential Input: Differential input circuitry measures the voltage of both the positive (+) and negative (-) portions of the input signal, subtracting the voltage common to both conductors (noise); resulting in a cleaner signal. Reducing the noise on the input then improves the sound quality of the output.
Speaker Connections: The 2-channel nickel-plated clamp wire connectors will accept 8-gauge to 18-gauge wire. A Phillips-head or slotted screwdriver (not supplied) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals.
Remote Punch EQ (PEQ) Connection: An RJ-45 jack is provided for connecting an optional remote PEQ control (575ROCKPEQ, sold separately). If you use the remote PEQ, the Punch EQ control on the amp is disabled, and replaced by the remote.
Note: Previous model Punch Bass and Para-Punch remotes will not work with this amp.
RCA Pass-Thru Jacks: The pass-thru jacks provide a convenient source for daisy-chaining an additional amplifier without running an extra set of RCA cables from the front of the vehicle to the amplifier location. The pass-thru jacks output a full-range signal.
