Enclosed Subwoofers 101

An enclosed subwoofer is a box with a subwoofer already installed. The advantage to buying an enclosed sub is that the manufacturer made the sub, then designed and built the box as a perfect match, so you'll get the best possible performance. Every enclosed sub has a maximum RMS power handling rating, so pair it with an amp with a similar RMS power rating to get the best performance.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had this box in my Yukon Denali along with the Rockford P550.2 amp....The bass was unbelievable while it lasted...With amp not even turned all the way up I fried this box in less than a week...If it could handle a lil more power this box would be perfect...

Great subs!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've always been partial to Rockford Fosgate speakers, and these didn't disappoint! I couldn't believe the price on these subs for how good they sound! Next purchase will probably be Dynamat to keep the trunk lid from rattling so loud!

I recently purchased these subs and they sound really good hooked up to a friends amp. I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a factory amp and was wondering if there is a way to hook these subs up to it?

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just got these sub about 4 hours ago thinking they might not be as good as 3 or $400 subs but i was wrong. I have them in a 2001 ford explorer sport running off the factory amp which a guy told me would not sound good. but they sound as good as a aftermarket system. Now I have friends that are selling their 10" and are going to buy these subs. They are worth every cent.

great bang for the buck

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers. And I was very impressed I got them hooked up to a cheap amp but they still slap hard! I need to get me a better amp but for the price you get you get your moneys worth.

Alright, I went to an ABC around here and just heard the 2007 PL1-212. The enclosure is only 300 RMS, but they ran a 1000 RMS amp on em and they SLAMMED, werent even broke in yet. They played Nelly on them and blew a fuse... But this thing is DEFINATELY worth the money.

Product Research

Punch Stage 1 Woofer: The enclosure houses two 12" single voice coil, 8 ohm woofers. The speakers are a parabolic injection molded polypropylene cone-type woofer with a foam surround. The woofers feature a 2" voice coil, steel basket, 30 ounce magnet and a linear spider.

Solid MDF Construction: The enclosure is constructed of high quality 5/8" MDF (medium-density fiberboard), which resists flexing and has anti-resonant qualities.

Vented Enclosure: The vented enclosure is aided by precision construction through computer design. The enclosure consists of two front-firing 12" single voice coil woofers with dual tuned front ports. The box has an internal volume of 2.70 cubic feet.

Tuned Ports: The enclosure uses two proprietary high-flow, low-noise ports to help produce deep and loud bass efficiently. The ports are side by side on the front of the box and located in between the two mounted woofers.

Box Carpeting: The enclosure is finished with high-density carpeting for superior durability. The top, bottom, front and back of the box are covered in black carpet. The sides of the box have a black plastic end-cap with the Rockford Logo cut-out inside of it.

Speaker Terminals: The subwoofer enclosure uses two sets of 4 AWG binding posts to connect your amplifier to the speaker box. The binding posts are located on the left side of the box (as you face the front of the box).

Wiring Configurations: The two sets of speaker terminals allow you to wire the box in the following configurations:

  • 4-ohm Mono: You can wire the two terminals in parallel to a single amplifier channel to obtain a 4-ohm monaural load. Many amplifiers allow you to bridge two channels to a single 4-ohm load.
  • 8-ohm Stereo: You can wire each of the two terminals directly to two individual amplifier channels for an 8-ohm stereo load.
  • 16-ohm Mono: You can wire the two terminals in a series configuration to a single amplifier channel to obtain a 16-ohm monaural load.

Power Handling: Combined, the subwoofers can handle up to 300 watts RMS power and 600 watts peak power.
