Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Dropped these little guys perfectly into my Grand Prix's 4" rear deck openings, turned on the radio, and oh, the clarity! These sound amazing for such little speakers. Even when I cranked the volume far past my normal listening levels, there was no distortion in sound. Great value from the team at Rockford Fosgate.

Pros: Great sound, even better price. Crutchfield shipping is always top-notch.

Cons: My car wouldn't let me use the aftermarket speaker grills without some serious dremel work. Other than that, nothing whatsoever.

2014 Chevrolet Spark
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Looking to upgrade the nasal sound in my 2015 Chevy Spark EV, I purchased these units. Crutchfield did not have a listing for compatible speakers, but others on the web had similar installs with these speakers. They are definitely more efficient than stock front drivers, clear in the mid and highs. I did not expect much bass, they are very small. I had to remove the small stock plastic ported enclosure and snap off two of the new speakers mounting tabs for it to work. Crutchfield supplied terminal adapters at no cost, so no real modifications to the car. In all fairness to Chevrolet, the stock speakers could probably use some dampening material in the plastic cup enclosure and eliminate some of plastic coloration. I am happy with the price/performance of these units.

Pros: Great price to performance, definite upgrade to stock units.

Cons: Not real bass performers, but what do you want from such a small speaker?

2004 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After I was able to get the speakers installed they sound great. Great clarity and true sound with no distortion with high volume. I probably could've gone with a bigger speaker as these barely fit the hole in my door. The website also said I didn't need an adapter to mount them to the door, but one would've made the install easier. I had to drill new holes and use the brackets with the speakers. I matched these with the Rockford Fosgate Prime R152-S component speakers in the front.

Pros: Great sound and bass.

Cons: speaker wire that came with speakers was too small of gauge. Just threw it out and spliced the wiring adapter from Crutchfield into car's wiring and connected them to speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speakers themselves are not bad but they are overwhelmed by the front speakers in my application. I suppose that was my fault though for ordering smaller speakers... The main gripe i had was that these were advertised as direct fit with adaptors sent by crutchfield. However, they needed custom brackets made. To be fair to Crutchfield, they quickly shipped me several sets of adaptors which the service advisor thought may work but i still had to modify one of them to get the speakers to fit.

Pros: great price, clear sound

Cons: If you have an 04 Subaru WRX, check the construction under your door panel before ordering so you know if custom mounts are needed. little to no bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This speaker may work well for a different application. This was my fault, I was looking for good quality speaker to go in the rear doors of my 2004 GMC Sierra. Looking though the Crutchfield website I was under the impression that the only size that would fit without cut a larger hole. Once again this was my fault, I should have looked further, The existing cut out is 4x6 that is the size that I should have ordered. Back to the Fosgates, their sound is very clear but very low and I don't mean low as in base I mean Low as in volume. As far as base they had virtually no base. But then again they are a 4" speaker. If you have room for a 4" speaker and what some good clean mid ranges and highs these are a good speaker.

Pros: Good clear mid-range and highs

Cons: No Base. then again it's only 4"

About my install

Written by: Henchy from San Jose, CA on August 9, 2013

1999 Toyota Avalon
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I received these speakers in a timely manner and well packed for shipping. I decided to write this review based on my installation of product for a 1999 Toyota Avalon with the stock Altec Lansing 7 speaker system. Sofar I have 1 of the 2 spkrs installed in passenger side/front. I left the stock tweeter connected. I can't tell much of a difference between the stock mid and the 2 way Fosgate. I'm sure with more power it might prove to be better than stock one for loud volumes. There will be a thin gap the circumference of speaker after mounted. You will have to refoam the little air vent next to speaker or just leave it without like i did. Clearance is fine for front doors with speaker. Mounting is troubling though. If you are fine with 2 screws to hold it it's fine, however there is not enough width in the molded plastic to mount more than 3 screws if your lucky. All in all it was fun to install speaker and compare it to stock. If you don't plan to upgrade your head unit or amplify these the stock Altec Lansing system is comparable in my opinion. I think to hear the value of these speakers it might take toward their max. rms input and a sensitive ear to details based on my particular install situation. I am sure that these speakers will be a definate upgrade for many cars but not so much in my case.

Pros: Sound on par with the stock 'premium' ones when installed solely replacing factory speaker and leaving fact. tweeter in. Probly better sound with higher wattage. crisp highs and decent low end for size.

Cons: No cons. At this time I just can't tell much difference in sound based on my test setup.

Tweeters: Each speaker features a 1/2" Silk dome tweeter. The embedded design maintains the correct phase relationship between the tweeter and woofer, and doesn't add to the speaker's overall height.

4/2 Hole Compatibility: The speakers' mounting tabs can be removed, allowing installation in 4-hole or 2-hole applications. Please refer to the Crutchfield Car Selector to confirm fit for your vehicle.

Klippel Analysis: By using a state-of-the-art Klippel Distortion Analyzer, Rockford Fosgate engineers can optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension for the best possible performance and the lowest distortion.

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

Hi it's Steve. The stock speakers look like 4". I have not taken them out yet to measure. I have a number of people that want to change speakers and they are waiting to see what I find that will sound good without breaking your budget. [ Steve  Apr 22, 2014 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The best option would be the Polk Audio DXi525's. These will be more marine grade than any other manufacturer that we carry. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
