Better components give you better detail

Each 5-1/4" speaker sports a stiff polypropylene woofer cone that delivers strong drums and bass, along with clean reproduction of the midrange frequencies. Rockford Fosgate mounts the silk dome tweeter flush with the woofer so it'll fit in more vehicles while adding the excitement of strong high-frequency response. The built-in crossover network divides the frequencies going to each driver, so all your music plays faithfully. Grilles are included.

Good set of speakers for a smaller car. These were the biggest RFs that fit my car, without custom install.

Small speaker, big sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good set of speakers for a smaller car. These were the biggest RFs that fit my car, without custom install.

Pros: Great sound.

Cons: Smaller than front door size, but this is a limitation of the car, not the speaker.

I didn't need these.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced stock Honda speakers in front doors with these Rockford Fosgate's. If I had it to do again I would save the money and stick with the oem speakers. I also replaced the stock deck with a Kenwood at the same time. From an sound quality point of view it was no upgrade. Kind of nice to have the BT with the new deck.

Pros: Not difficult to replace the oem speakers with these.

Cons: They are pretty mediocre speakers.

Cons: Limited sound and clarity.

Although my speakers are paired up to a taco try radio for the time being, they still sound very good. These speakers will not provide a large amount of bass (obviously), however the provide a nice tight mid and high bass frequencies. Great speaker for the price. If you want more "kick" out of your audio system I recommend either getting a subwoofer or buying an amp to power them to there true potential. Also you will need an aftermarket radio for these to sound crisp and clear.

Pros: Great speaker set for the price Easy to install Great mids and highs

Cons: None

Zero disappointment. I would recommend these to anyone looking to upgrade their factory door speakers. You shouldn't be disappointed. They have the classic Rockford sound.

Pros: Good clear bass. Very clear highs and midrange. A total steal for the price.

Cons: None so far.

These speakers sound great. I have them paired with a slightly larger pair in my front doors. These are located in the back doors of my 2002 Saturn L100. I did not have to modify the back doors at all to get them in.

Pros: Fit in my car with no modifications required.

Cons: None so far.

2003 Honda Civic
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased four of these speakers to replace all of the stock speakers in my Civic. After replacing the two rear speakers I listened to them an compared them to the two front speakers. I then installed the two front speakers hoping they would sound better, but they sounded worse than the stock speakers that came with my Civic. In particular, they lack any bass. Higher and mid range frequencies sound OK.

Pros:

Cons: Sound worse than stock speakers. Performs poorly in lower ranges.

2007 Toyota Tundra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These were the replacements for my 6.5" factory speakers in the rear doors of my Tundra. I felt like I lost a little bit on the lows due to the smaller surface area, they made up for it in the mids and highs over the factory. I paired the with some Focal 6x9 in the front doors and they balance the sound very well when I push more bass up front. I have the MTX Thunder75.4 amp pushing the power to them and they handle it with ease. Sound is very clean and music comes alive throughout the truck.

Pros: Smaller speaker than factory, but handle a lot of power Speakers don't distort at higher volumes High frequency spread is very good with the built in tweeter

Cons: None - I'd buy them again!

Excellent Replacement Speakers

2003 Toyota Camry
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent speakers to replace factory 6x9's. But here is the story about why I buy from Crutchfield. I purchased the speakers and included were the mounting brackets and wiring adapters. When it came time to install, the included instructions were excellent, but when it came time to utilize the wiring adapters, they did not fit my factory wiring. I called Crutchfield on a holiday and the call was answered on the first ring. All of the schematics showed something different than what I had but the product specialist took the time to see what I had on my car and find what would work. He then had it overnighted to me. No other place provides this type of service anymore. Crutchfield has a customer for life.

Pros: Excellent sound, performs better than speakers that are twice the price. Easy install in my 2003 Camry.

Cons: None

Originally was going to get kickers but decided on these instead. I listen to a lot of reggae and oi music, these speakers are perfect for it. Vocals sound nice, bass is pretty decent. Overall no complaints with these, if your debating on these I'd say go for it, I couldn't be happier with them.

Pros: Good vocals, nice bass, easy install (with adapters), very satisfied.

Cons: None so far.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used these in a teardrop trailer I'm building with an old Alpine receiver with no amp, they sound great! I took a chance and bought them as "Scratch and Dent", but didn't find either on the speakers, wasn't missing any hardware, either. The trailer has built in speaker boxes so the bass is just fine in the small space, just what I was looking for.

Pros: Great sound quality. I like the simple understated grille design, VERY fast delivery, they came a day early!

Cons: None

great speaker

Written by: AudioFan from Manchester, NH on April 5, 2016

I have always been alittle skeptical when it comes to Rockford fosgate. All my friends ran them in highschool and they always put out some bass but I never thought they were all that good sounding. I picked up a pair of these to put into a reclaimer machine at work and a Panasonic HU. I thought they sounded ok and then after a 2 weeks of breaking them in they really weren't bad at all. I definently changed my views on Rockfords For the price these are really nice speakers I love the tweeter being in the middle and the woofer moving around it. If you are looking for a cheap pair of replacement speakers these are def the way to go. But if you expect bass out of these your mad!! They are only 5 1/4' speakers lol they will not rattle your brain nor were they ever designed to. go buy a sub for that. these do everything they say they do I play them around 6-9 hours a day at work and loud haven't had a problem in the year and a half I've had them.

Pros: they do everything they say they do and they really don't sound bad for only 60 bucks

Cons: not any yet

May be a little short on the bass but I am installing an Alpine mini amp soon(probably don't need it,but i want to get full potential from these) and will upgrade this review then.

Pros: inexpensive,good quality,easy install

Cons: cheap 26 ga. speaker wire included

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers themselves aren't bad for the money, start to distort at higher volumes with any type of bass. Listen to mostly rock. The issue I have is with Crutchfield. Being very pressed for time, I ordered these speakers after chatting with one of the experts on this site. I questioned why two different sizes were listed for my front doors, only to be reassured either size would fit my vehicle. I received the speakers and two weeks later when i had a chance to install, SURPRISE, not even close. Ended up having to drill holes to install because they were too small and didn't even come close to lining up. That being said, shipping was fairly quick, the harness adapters worked perfectly, and the sound quality is ok for a cheaper pair of speakers. Word of advise, remove you door panels and measure everything rather that relying on one of this sites "experts".

Pros: Clean look Easy install Rockford Fosgate reliability and quality

Cons: Don't seem to respond well to lows yet. Crutchfield advised me of a "break in" period that allows the speaker the stretch and allow for better sound. I can't wait for them to sound even better!

Rating them five stars because of the quality and sound for the money. I mounted these as factory speaker replacements in the rear passenger doors of my 2011 Toyota 4Runner. They do a great job complimenting the two sets of RF Prime R165-S I also installed in the back and the front of my 4Runner. I don't know how you could ask for more from a very inexpensive set of speakers. The improvement over stock is very noticeable.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are excellent speakers for the price point. I am running these without an amp with a Pioneer AppRadio 4 head unit. These have great sound, my only complaint is I have to turn the volume up to mid level to get the bass to come through. I don't know if this is because I am not running an amp, how the head unit is designed, or by design. Once the bass comes in, it is great, not boomy or sloppy. Nice crisp, low sound. It is enough to make me consider NOT adding a subwoofer.

Pros: Great sound, great value.

Cons: Bass doesn't come through on low volume. This may not be the speakers fault however.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers to replace my tired front 6 3/4" factory speakers in my '95 Camaro. I initially ordered the 6 3/4" version based on the Crutchfield fitment guide stating they would fit. Although they would have fit after modification of the OEM speaker bracket, i did not want to go through the hassle of cutting/drilling, so I returned the larger size and got the 5 1/4". They are a great replacement to factory speakers. They seem to be a solid improvement versus what was originally installed, and seem to have good response, with decent mid and high clarity. Dont expect stunning lows, as these are only a 5 1/4" 2 way speaker. I realize these are not high end speakers, but for the money, I am happy. Using the supplied brackets allowed for a few simple, straightforward install with no hacking or rigging something up in my vehicle, which i greatly appreciate.

Pros: Perfect fit using supplied brackets Excellent upgrade vs. OEM Good sensitivity, mids, and highs

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Considering they were only $60, these speakers were a great upgrade over the crappy stock ones that came in my Subaru. I had already installed an aftermarket head unit and the clarity is definitely better. I listen mainly to rock (classic rock, hard rock, metal) but occasionally put pop on when my GF is in the car. The bass is good as long as there's not too much else going on in the music. If there's a lot of layers the bass kinda gets drowned out which is why I'm currently looking for underseat subs.

Pros: great price, clear highs, great mids, fit well in smaller spaces

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these speakers in about an hour in our Honda Odyssey. My family immediately noticed how much clearer the mid-range vocals were and and how crisp the high end music sounded. The mid-bass ended up being less than the originals due to a smaller sized speaker and the speakers most likely needing more wattage than the original stereo has available. The wife and kids are very happy with the much better sound so we're very happy with the end result. They were an excellent recommendation from the Crutchfield advisor.

Pros: Clearer high notes and vocals/mid-range. Excellent sound

Cons: Mid-bass was less than originals due to smaller speaker size and the low wattage from factory stereo.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The quality of sound is phenomenal compared to the stock speakers in my 98 Corolla.

Pros: Sound quality is nice, provides great mid to high range. The mounting brackets made fitting it not as much of a custom fabrication affair.

Cons: Now this is why I couldn't give it the full 5 stars, the speed clips they include have absolutely no use in my car, the clips are maybe a half inch long and wide, and the mounting holes are 2-3" in from the edge of the mounting hole, I did not have a small enough pliers to try and hold them behind the mounting holes so I had to go and get bolts and lock nuts from my hardware store. Not the biggest of deals but it made installation a chore.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted to replace the speakers in my wife's 2007 VW Rabbit. Crutchfield recommended these R1525 2-way speakers. The 2007 VW Rabbit has component speakers i.e. a 6.75 woofer, a 5.25 mid range, and a 1in tweeter in the doors. It has a 6.5 woofer and a 1in tweeter on each side in the rear. Somebody please explain to me where 2-way speakers fit into this picture!

Pros: The master sheet directions on how to get to the speakers were very good. However, nowhere does it say you have to buy a special tool, only used by the Germans to get the rear seat out!

Cons: Crutchfield recommended a pair of 5.25in 2-way speakers and a pair of 4in 2-way speakers for the 2007 VW Rabbit. Bill, somebody dropped the ball big time on this one!

Crutchfield response on May 27, 2014 All of the tools needed for stereo and speaker removal are listed on the first page of our MasterSheet instructions, including specialty tools like in this case. As for speaker replacement, it's a common practice for people to replace factory component speakers with better 2-way speakers. That's why we offer that as an option in our vehicle-fit tool. Our tech support team reached out to the customer to explore his options and offer their assistance with the installation. Lifetime tech support is included with every Crutchfield purchase.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It was very difficult to find speakers for the doors of my son's Subaru. There is not much clearance in the doors. My son really wanted a matched set front and rear and the Rockfords were one of the few choices that had a speaker to fit both doors. They are a big improvement over the factory speakers and have very nice sound for the price. We will think about putting a small amp in place in the future but for now he is very happy with the purchase. I think there are better overall speakers out there in this size but these were clearly "the best that would fit" for our application.

Pros: They actually fit!

Cons: Not as efficient as some other models so will probably want to add a small amp in the future as opposed to running just off the deck.

These are not your usual quality Rockford Fosgate speakers. I bought these to replace the factory front speakers in a 2004 Toyota Corolla. I thought the sound of the stock system was pretty sub-par. It's even worse with these. Theses replacements are all upper end and no mid or bass. Not that I expect a lot of bass from a 5 1/4" speaker, but it should perform down into the low 800-1000 HZ range. I don't think it performs below about 3000Hz. Really disappointed.

Great speakers with a decent price, had to use the mounting bracket, and they were a little smaller than the factory speakers but no comparison in sound.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced old Kenwoods in my Jeep with these. I knew the Kenwood speakers that were in there were about 10 years old, but still thought they sounded decent. Put these in and was impressed at how crisp and clean these sounded compared to the Kenwoods.

Pros: Price, sound, good looking grill

Cons: Little bass (not surprising since they are 5 1/4 speakers)

2013 Honda Accord
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers to replace my stock speakers on a 2013 Honda Accord LX. The openings on the LX are 6.5 inches. These 5.25 inch speakers do not completely fill in the opening so there is open space all around the speaker preventing it from properly pushing air, especially for bass. As a result, bass is very weak and overall, they did not sound good. Crutchfield offers a plastic insert to cover the open area but I instead went with larger 6.5 inch Kenwood speakers. I would much rather fill the space with speaker as opposed to plastic. So, these speakers may sound alright on a different car, but as for the 2013 Honda Accord, go with a larger speaker. See my review on the Kenwood KFC-1664.

Pros: Well constructed

1993 Chrysler Lebaron
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking to upgrade my tired stock Infinity speakers on my 93 lebaron convertible, with a new deck. I was a Big rockford fan in the 1990's when into the Big old school systems, but I've mellowed out a bit. I want good sound quality and some volume because I need to hear it over the wind noise, but I wasn't looking to rattle windows. These sound crisp, clear and well balanced. These speakers sound much better than the stock speakers and I hear my music over any wind. The bass was actually better than I thought given the limited range of speakers of this size. I thought a subwoofer might be needed at some point, because I still like some bass, but these speakers aren't leaving me wanting much more.

Pros: Great Value Great sound, worthy of the Rockford name!

Cons: None, You won't get better sound quality, or bass with this size of speaker regardless of manufacturer. If you need more bass than this, add a subwoofer

2007 Toyota Corolla
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These little speakers are impressive! I was surprised at how much bass they can deliver, especially when they are well-baffled, as in the front doors of my 2007 Toyota Corolla (using the perfect-fit Crutchfield brackets). The only difficulty was drilling out three hardened-steel rivets to remove the old speaker. (I burned out one, and dulled another titanium-nitride bit.) The bass made the door liners vibrate and buzz, so I had to insert foam in selected areas. The treble and mids are crystal-clear. Be aware that these are much less efficient than the factory units. That turned out to be good for me, as it made the previously 'dead' door-top tweeters just sizzle! The approx. 11 w/ch. supplied by the factory head unit drives them adequately. A great value for a well-made component.

Pros: Surprising bass, excellent treble and mids. Easy installation.

Cons: Draw more power than than factory front speakers.

Decent speakers that handle mids and highs with pretty good clarity. But as for bass.... well maybe it's with Waldo and I just haven't spotted it yet? Granted one should not expect much thump with 5-1/4" speakers, but wow, it's like a black hole for low frequencies.

Pros: Solid construction, easy to install (even with the modifications needed fpr my BMW 381.) Good clear sound.

Cons: Boom go Bing. Don't really have much volume.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These Rockford speakers are pretty good i put them in my Jeep XJ and the front one gave me a little hassle for installation because you have to drill new mounting holes for the screws because they dont line up but the rear ones went right in and they sound awesome for the price. I wish they could get a little louder but hey they were only this much a pair so o well and it seems like they generate sound to carry so it sorta drowns out outside noise of car and environment and alot! clearer then stock speakers

Pros: price look durability easy to install

Cons: could get a little louder

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speakers, i have used it in overhead bar in 91 jeep wrangler. Couple issues: 1. Required hole diameter is smaller than other 5.25 speakers 2. positive/negative labeling is confusing. Red wire goes to negative label, black to positive. I ended up using colors as a guide vs labels on connectors.

Pros: Loud, clear sound

Cons: Slightly smaller than other 5.25. Requires smaller hole. I had old sony speakers installed before. Labeling is confusing.

i installed these in the front of my truck with the instructions and provided pieces, they were fast and easy to install despite a local dealer telling me otherwise. the local dealer told me these wouldn't fit and tried to tell me to return these speakers and buy his gear.....his prices were steep and i took off home to do it my self and i am glad i did. these speakers are great and a absolutely astounding purchase for the price if you dont have the green to buy a phenomenal system powered by an amp these speakers are your solution....they aren't super bright and they aren't super crisp but they are absolutely great sounding speakers for what you pay id recommend these to anyone looking to upgrade from stock or blown speakers ( paired well with my 12" rockford fosgate punch p3s sub)

Pros: great sound for a great price

Cons: cant think of any
