2008 Subaru Impreza WRX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These things are awesome! I put them in as front door replacements for my 2008 Subaru WRX Hatchback. I have the "Premium" sound system from Subaru, which is ok, but not great. When I pulled the door panel off, I had no idea it already had 2-way speakers, same size, already in the door. So I didn't expect much of a change. But I went ahead an replaced the OEM's with the R16. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! The bass is more repsonsive and the high's are definitely much more crisp. I will most likely do the back door speakers as well. Great sound for the money! Of course, installation instructions from Crutchfield are always great and the wiring harness they sent was a perfect fit! I highly recommend these speakers. Don't be fooled by the low price!!!

Pros: Awesome! Great sound for the money, huge improvement over OEM's.

Cons: NONE!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent speakers for the money, I can now hear my son's car approaching from a block away and he is very happy that he is now able to announce his entrance in such a booming fashion. The sound is excellent and the bass output rattles the windows. Midrange and treble are crystal clear and the installation procedure was straight forward. The speakers fit the car beautifully; all in all an outstanding purchase.

Pros: Ease of installation, sound output, power handling capability, clarity.

2004 Chevrolet Cavalier
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Put these in rear deck of chevy cavalier, not as loud or have as much bass as would have like. That being said they are very good speakers and the sound is good. I am going to try to put them in the front doors even thought it doesnt say the are a direct match.

Pros: Good Sound

Cons: Not enough bass or as loud as I wanted

Nice sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice sounding replacement speakers. Decent highs and lows. Handles a bit of the "thump" on some sound tracks too.

Pros: Nice sound. Good overall stock replacement speaker. Great speaker for the money!

Cons: Can get a bit "boomy" when pushed hard.

Sound good, no need for bracket

2000 Nissan Xterra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price, these sound great. They are many times better than my factory Nissan Xterra speakers, especially since both were blown! One note to anyone installing them in a 2000 Xterra, the mounting brackets are absolutely unnecessary! They go right onto the factory mounts (unlike the P1692 in the rear, which don't fit at all - see my review of those).

Pros: Sound good for the money, easy to install.

Cons: Fitting details for the 2000 Xterra are incorrect - no extra bracket needed at all.

Product Research

Woofer: The Rockford Fosgate Prime R16 utilizes Mica injected polypropylene cone woofers, cold rolled steel baskets, and foam surrounds.

Tweeter: Each speaker features a 1/2" Mylar balanced dome tweeter. A semi-dome tweeter has a dome placed inside a cone; balanced dome tweeters are semi-dome tweeters with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the tweeter. The low distortion Mylar material allows accurate reproduction of high frequencies for an open sound stage.

Mounting: While Rockford Fosgate calls the R16 a 6" speaker, they are sized to mount in standard three-hole and four-hole 6-1/2 applications. They can also be easily mounted in 6-3/4 applications, but because the extra screw holes create an air leak in the larger opening, speaker baffles must be used.
