Overview

Our take on the Rockford Fosgate Prime R1652-S

Put Rockford Fosgate sound in your car without breaking the bank. Whether you're building your first system or replacing some burned-out factory speakers, Prime component speaker systems offer clean, powerful performance that'll keep you and your friends entertained as you drive.

Put Rockford Fosgate sound in your car without breaking the bank. Whether you're building your first system or replacing some burned-out factory speakers, Prime component speaker systems offer clean, powerful performance that'll keep you and your friends entertained as you drive.

The Prime R1652-S component system includes 6-3/4" woofers with stiff mica-injected polypropylene cones that deliver strong drums and bass, along with clean reproduction of the midrange frequencies. The separate 1" Mylar balanced dome tweeters top things off with vibrant highs that add excitement to your music without a trace of harshness. You can flush- or surface-mount the tweeters, so you can create the best possible soundstage, plus keep the installation neat. Built-in crossovers ensure a smooth audio response, so all your music plays faithfully.

Note: Rockford Fosgate describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.

I put these in to complete my system and they bump. The only problem is that I had to call and ask for a bracket to make it fit my 6 3/4 it's not quite a 6 3/4 but to big for 6 1/2. Other than that its great.

1998 Toyota Camry LE
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered these from Okinawa, Japan and I got them in just over a week. Most shipments to Oki take forever, so thanks to Crutchfield for their expedient processing and delivery. Anyway, I installed these in a 98 camry (woofers in the front doors, tweeters on the sail panels) and have been very satisfied with the performance so far. It took just a little creativity and few minutes of installation to have them up and running. For this price tag you really can't beat the quality and performance of this product. Not only do they sound great and hit a wide veriety of frequencies, the handle well with my head unit using the provided wattage. I enthusiatically recommend this product to those on a budget and are expecting more for their money. Thanks to Crutchfield for their fast service, and Rockford Fosgate for an excellent product.

Pros: Decent SQ, produces plenty of low freq for its size, and comes with convenient mounting hardware.

Cons: Unusual size, not exactly 6 1/2 or 6 3/4 inches in diameter. However, this may only be a problem for some mounting locations. Also, this is a component set, so expect a little more installation time. (not exactly a con, just know what you're buying)

2007 Dodge Ram 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed a set of these in my front and rear doors of my 2007 Dodge Ram MegaCab. The front didn't come with a plate for the 6x9 hole, but still mounted with 2 of the 4 speaker screws. The rear required drilling tiny pilot holes for new screws. Both, no real big issue. The sound was an INSTANT improvement! I have a older Kenwood DNX5120. I actually AMP these with a 5 channel Kenwood AMP and they SCREAM! I also am running two Kenwood 10" subs. All these work well with each other!

Pros: Very good sound for the cost Look nice No Crossover to mount

Cons: none

2003 Toyota Sequoia
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers pack a big punch. I have these in a 2003 Toyota Sequioa and they are very loud and handle the low bass very well. The factory speakers were blown so these were a great replacement and upgrade.

1996 Saturn SL2
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought 4 of these speakers and placed them in my '96 Saturn SL2 and these speakers bump! And what's crazy is that I am using my factory head unit with no amp whatsoever. I can only imagine how these would sound with a great head unit and amp. As far as installation goes, it was extremely easy, with my only problem being that the speakers are a tad bit bigger than 6 1/2" but not quite 6 3/4". But that still wasn't anything major. Overall these speakers are a great buy and I would fully recommend them.

Great for the price!

1994 Chevrolet Camaro
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Worked great with just the head unit and no amp. I used these for front speakers in the Z28 convertible I built for my girlfriend, and she loves them. No crossover to deal with. They sound great, but start to distort if you crank up the volume really high; so would be even better with an amp.

Pros: Cheap, easy install, sound great.

Cons: None... love em.

Great Sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great improvement over the factory speakers in my 2012 Traverse. I was able to mount the tweeters in the factory location in the A-pillar trim, with what I would describe as heavy modificaton, not for the faint of heart. I ran these off off the factory head unit awhile before I upgraded to a Kenwood HU. It was a 2 step improvement in sound. The supplied adapter bracket fit the vehicle perfectly, however they did not fit the speaker very well, as it required significant grinding and trip to the hardware store for some nuts and machine screws. In addition I had to silcone it together to control vibration. I am very perticular about a clean install, so many out there would not go to the lengths I did on this.

Pros: Great Sound, Decent Bass, nice high freq. detail.

Cons: Not "Plug and Play"

2002 Chrysler Sebring
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Product replaced stock speakers with an Kenwood head unit. Really brings out all the frequencies. These combined with a pair of Rockford-Fosgate 6x9's are producing one of the best sounds I have ever enjoyed out of a car stereo.

Pros: Product replaced stock speakers with an Kenwood head unit. Easily installed, solid construction.

Cons: Tweeter mounting required modifying the door panel. When the car originally had component speakers in the door.

No amp and a quality head unit for these speakers!!!

Written by: jdharv67 from Tyler, Texas on May 17, 2011

I paired these up with a JVC XR810 head unit using NO amp. You don't need an amp using these speakers and a good quality head unit. My head unit is rated at 20 watts RMS and 50 watts max. They sound very clear, much better than coaxial speakers! They are very LOUD using just the deck. Excellent highs with nice mids. Im very impressed with the quality in construction and sound. Trust me when I say get these!

Cons:

Excellent!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I Installed these in the rear deck of a 1997 VW Jetta and they are absolutely amazing, i'm actually ordering another set over the weekend for my front doors and i'll be returning the Kenwoods i bought for those, they arent cutting it. The Rockfords have surprising bass for their size and cost and the tweeters are clear but not screechy, like the Kenwoods. The radio I am using is a Kenwood KDC-MP345U so I am in no way downing them, you just get what you pay for.. Crutchfield made it too easy to install with the included harnesses and instructions! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ROCKFORD FOSGATE AND CRUTCHFIELD!!

I installed these speakers in the front doors of a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. I had to do some cutting, but after a few little modifications they fit like a dream. Let me tell you, they sound like one too... paired up with the Pioneer TS-A6169. They sound amazing just running off my Pioneer DEH-P7700MP head unit. I now have pretty clear decently punchy bass, almost perfect mids and crystalline highs. I cannot wait to add an amp and sub to free these speakers from bass-line duties. Overall, they're as perfect as you can get for an inexpensive component system from a trusted name, and all without the need for an clunky external crossover
