The flush-mount tweeter allows this speaker to fit in more locations and provides a more focused image.

Excellent factory replacement

Whether you're building your first system or replacing some burned-out factory speakers, Rockford Fosgate's Prime Series R168X2 6"x8" speakers offer clean, powerful performance that'll keep you and your friends rockin' as you drive. Plus, Prime speakers are a great way to get Rockford Fosgate sound quality without destroying your bank account.

Better components give you better detail

Each 6"x8" speaker sports a stiff polypropylene woofer cone that delivers strong drums and bass, along with clean reproduction of the midrange frequencies. Rockford Fosgate mounts the silk dome tweeter flush with the woofer so it'll fit in more vehicles while adding the excitement of strong high-frequency response. The built-in crossover network divides the frequencies going to each driver, so all your music plays faithfully. Grilles not included — factory grilles are appropriate for most applications.

Installed in door, I will end up buying the recommended Baffles.

Indefinitely satisfied with my purchase. They were a great price and the sound is phenomenal. They haven't even fully broken in yet and they already have clear concise quality sound from low lows to high highs. And crutchfield always does good with shipping and handling the product and makes it quick and easy with the adapters. I always shop with crutchfield and will continue to as long as they offer they're awesome service and awesome products! Overall I'm superbly satisfied!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently bought a 2004 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4x4 with Factory Stereo, Speakers and Sub. I replaced my front door mounted factory speakers with these and they are much louder than the original speakers. I was able to use the screws that were used on the original speakers and they mounted into the door without ANY problems. They provide some much needed bass compared to the original Factory Speakers. I will be replacing the rear speakers as well now that I have heard them! Eventually I will replace the factory Stereo as well which should really improve the overall sound system.

Pros: Loud Clear Some Low End Bass which is more than what the Factory Speakers provided. No Vehicle Trim Rattles when cranked!!

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very pleased with the installation and output of these speakers. I replaced my stock 2011 F-150 speakers which are notorious for their terrible quality. Once I got the door panels off the speakers aligned perfectly with the grommets in the door. The wiring harnesses Crutchfield provided attached quick and easy and everything fit together perfectly. The sound quality in my truck is night and day better and that is still with the stock stereo. Speakers have great range across all levels of sound and there is definitely a signature punch and crispness to Rockford speakers compared to some other aftermarket speakers I've heard like Alpine, Kicker, etc. Next step will be to install a line out converter and a Rockford 4-channel amp to really get these speakers banging. Great purchase overall, only wish I had done it sooner!

Bought 4 of these to replace my factory speakers. Recently installed an Alpine radio, amp., and 12" Baseline Alpine Sub. Sounded great. But lacking in the highs and mids. Installed these with the connectors that came free with the purchase of the speakers and boy did these make a world of difference. Not only did the mids and highs sound great but the additional bass was pleasant surprise. Very clear sound for an affordable price.

Pros: Performance and price awsome

Cons: Nothing as of yet. And not expecting anything either.

The stock speakers in the front doors of my Ford F150 had blown out and the buzzing was driving me crazy. Saw the Rockford-Fosgate speakers on sale and ordered them right away. They arrived promptly, and with the enclosed instruction sheet I was able to easily remove the inside door panels and replace the stock speakers. It's been a couple of weeks now and the sound is terrific and a great relief from the annoying clatter I was dealing with.

2014 Ford F-150 STX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The stock front speakers in my 2014 F-150 STX were awful. It seems ford has had a rash of either blown speakers or bad speakers harnesses in the F-150 since around 2011. Mine was blown (replaced under warranty) about a month after I drove it off the lot. The sound is about what you'd expect from a $9 speaker, so i decided to upgrade. I completed the install today and there is a Very noticeable difference in the sound quality. The highs are much more pronounced and the bass is nice and tight. Couple that with a great price and world-class service I've always received from Crutchfield, and this upgrade was a no-brainer. The installation was pretty simple using the instructions Crutchfield provided. I also watched an online video on F150 speaker replacement which helped as well. Total time for the install was about 30 minutes, which included gathering the correct tools for the job. I would highly recommend the upgrade to anyone who's on the fence about whether or not a simple speaker replacement makes any noticeable difference in the sound quality without adding an aftermarket head unit, amplifier, etc. Trust me, you will notice a difference and you will not be disappointed.

Pros: Great price, great sound quality and great service.

Cons: I didn't install these as soon as I bought the vehicle (It's a sad fact that I should have to, but it's true).

They're good speakers coupled with a solid stereo, but not as much bass as I would have liked, so that's a disappointment. Installed easily enough in my Ford Contour, although I will at some point have to Redhill holes for the other 2 mounting points per speaker.

Pros: Decent speakers at loud volumes

Installed easily in a 2012 Ford Escape. Nice upgrade over the existing paper speakers. I agree with other reviews that the bass is definitely lacking, but much better than stock speakers. If you are looking for punch in your bass go with a 3-way speaker or sub-woofer, these will not be your answer.

Pros: Clear sound and easy installation.

Cons: Very little bass.

2012 Ford F-150 FX4
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced my stock 2012 F-150 speakers with these in the front doors only. It has now been 4 months (adequate time for them to break in) and these speakers are just plain sounding. They have no bass, which is okay because I have to JL Audio dual 10's. On top of that, I seemed to have gotten rather flat mids and highs. They are moderately loud but definitely show distortion at higher volumes. To me, they don't sound much better than my stock F-150 speakers. Do yourself a favor and pay a little more for a better speaker such as the Polk Audio DB571 or any other non-entry level aftermarket speaker. These are very basic and if you are looking to really boost your system look elsewhere. You get what you pay for in speakers.

Pros: Easy to install, well constructed

Cons: No bass, flat mids, flat highs, not very loud, very noticeable distortion.

I purchased a Kenwood KDC-BT562U receiver and on recommendation of Hogan I purchased these speakers for my 2001 town car to replace the front and rear speakers . The sound is very crisp and bass can have a good punch depending on type of music. I played some Latin Reggaeton with has some deep bass and Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Chitlins Con Carnet" instrumental they sounded awesome even at volume level 25. Overall I they sound very clear and are a major upgrade from the factory system!

As usual another fine product from Rockford Fosgate. Very good quality sound, put them in my 2005 F250 to replace some blown Memphis car audio speakers that were installed in 2007. I had some Sony speakers that were to be installed in another vehicle so I put those in first. They were horrible and sounded very poor. I promptly ordered these and as is usual quick shipping from Crutchfield. I installed them the day I received them and they sound far superior to the Memphis car audio speakers that they replaced.

RF Prime R168X2

Written by: Joe from Rolla, MO on October 5, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently sold my old Ford F-150 and replaced it with a Ford Ranger Supercab. I had upgraded the rear speakers in the F-150 with a pair of RF Punch P1683 3-way speakers. I checked and saw they would fit the rear doors of the Ranger, but not the front doors. I gave Crutchfield a call and talked with Mike. He recommended I stick with the RF family to get the best sound match to the P1683's and recommended the RF Prime R168X2. He also made sure I got the proper wiring harnesses adapters for the Prime and Punch speakers to make my installation a breeze. The master sheet provided simple instructions for properly getting into the door panels and replacing all of my speakers. Tremendous sound upgrade over the 13 year old factory speakers breathing new life into the factory head unit. I had initially wanted some 3 way speakers, but I am very pleased with these 2 way speakers. Plenty of high end response for my ears. I am very happy with the speakers and as always very pleased with the level of support and service I received from Crutchfield.

Pros: Great mids and highs. Good base for a small speaker.

Cons: None.

No, but it would be best if you at least had an aftermarket Stereo. I bought a Sony Double-DIN stereo and it was more than enough boost for these. [ Gerald  Feb 13, 2016 ]
Not at all, worked great with my stock system. Eventually if you'd like to upgrade to a head unit that has an internal amplifier these bad boys can handle it and sound even better. [ Timothy  Feb 12, 2016 ]
John, I hooked it up to my existing system - however, I do have the Mach 460 from Ford - which does have 3 amps from the factory. So I would say yes, you should run amps - I also added a powered subwoofer and it really makes the system sound great. Hard to get really great sound without some power (amps) Hope this helps [ BERT A  Feb 12, 2016 ]
