About the Rockford Fosgate R2D2-10

Jo Greene
Rockford Fosgate's Prime R2 subs deliver strong bass in your car, and they are definitely built to last. The R2D2-10 sub features a 10" mica-injected polypropylene cone that works with a high-density poly-foam surround to punch out fat, deep notes. Rockford Fosgate stitches the tinsel leads that carry the signal to the voice coils directly into the cone — they'll hang tough through heavy use so you get consistent, reliable performance. The stamped solid-steel frame offers venting usually found in high-end subs that keeps this sub running cool.

Dual 2-ohm voice coils allow you to wire this sub for 1- or 4-ohm impedance, giving you more flexibility in setting up your system. Rockford Fosgate optimizes this Prime sub for both sealed and ported enclosures so you can choose the type of bass you want in your ride.

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate Prime R2D2-10 is a 10-inch subwoofer with dual 2Ω voice coils. The sub features a StampCast steel frame, quick-release compression terminals, and a mica injected polypropylene cone. An anodized aluminum voice coil former and spider venting help keep the subwoofer cool.

Steel Basket: The R2D2-10 subwoofer features a StampCast steel basket for added rigidity.

Compression Terminals: The Prime R2D2-10 features spring post terminals which accommodate speaker wire up to 12 gauge.

CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling on the Rockford Fosgate Prime R2D2-10 subwoofer conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards. This means the subwoofer has the capacity to handle power under continuous demand, not instantaneous power handling, that over time, can damage voice coils.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Rockford recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 0.59 cubic feet (from 0.5 to 0.75 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: Rockford recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.4 cubic feet using one 4" diameter x 13" long port; this yields a tuning frequency of 43 Hz. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output (below 40Hz).

I used this 2 in a slim box in a nissan titan and the bass is very good.

As long as it has a volume between 0.5 to 0.75 cubic feet, it should have no problem at all. If you've got enough volume for normal sized, then I would go with that.

Yes, I bought these for my Ram back in 2020. It's a 2007 quad cab ram 1500. They fit in the box perfect with no issues

Q
Will a 3000 watt amp be to big for two tens?
erica  May 12, 2021

A
This is a two part answer. First, there is a lot of difference in amp wattage brand to brand. for example a 3000 watt Boss amp is not even close to a 3000 watt Rockford Fosgate amp. Its a "You get what you pay for" thing. That being said, if it is a high quality amp, you could blow those if you wanted to. You will be fine thought keeping your gain down. In my opinion it is always better to have high powered amps that you don"t have to turn up too high. They will never fail. I have several RF amps that I have been running since the 1900's lol. I have never turned them up past 3/4" capacity. I would recommend going with a T1D210 but it is double what you are going to spend. For about the same price as the two you are buying you can buy 1 P3D2-10. I think you would get better bass from that. But it has a much deeper mounting depth if that is an issue. I hope this helps. T.

According to the wattage they are rated to handle and your playing style, are you volume all the way up ? Thats a big amp and the tens will need to be a bery high quality sub. Check the watts they can handle, Skar audio, JBL, Rockford Fosgate all have very good subs.
raymond  May 12, 2021
A
As long as it's clean power it won't be a problem. You can adjust your gain on the amp to match the performance of the speakers
nathan  May 12, 2021
A
Clean 300 watt RMS is plenty for each subwoofer. 3000 would be over kill for this sub.

Would these subs go good in a bandpass box?
trojan  Apr 04, 2019

A
No not in a bandpass. They will sound better in an enclosed box.
garray  Apr 13, 2019
A
It's certainly slaps in a regular ported box, so I would assume a bandpass would work extremely well
thomas  Apr 12, 2019
A
I purchased them and placed them in a sealed box with the correct air space recommended. They sound awesome. Not sure on a band pass box

Q
Will this directly replace the R1 in the Prime R1 1x10 sealed enclosure package? The R1 is 4 Ohm svc, and the R2 is 2 ohm dvc. So that part seems fine. 200 rms vs 250 rms should be fine. I'm curious about the required enclosure air space though
justin  Dec 05, 2016

A
Check in the specifications section of the sub. It's tells you the required airspace.
justin  Dec 11, 2016
A
The size should be the same so you should be good with the air space size

What's a good box for a single R2D2 10'' sub. Vented or sealed? Or

I have a sealed box with 2 R2D2 10's and they sound great. The hit really hard and sound great.

Unfortunately I did not put this in a box. I bought this for my 2002 deville because it uses an open system. The item doesn't have to be put in a box. The trunk in my case is considered the box and I am happy with the output. I want some bump but I didn't want to rattle the car.

I personally installed a sealed box in my pickup with this speaker and a 250w amp and it sounded amazing. I ended up buying a second one and making a double speaker sealed box and it was even better speakers are still pumping 2 yrs later! And I would play it loud haha. I don't have much experience with ported(vented) boxes but if your under any size restrictions or you just want strong clean sound, go with a sealed box. The ported boxes usually are a bit louder but the sound isn't as clean. The biggest thing is to make sure you have the right amp for the speaker and it's wired right. Hope this helps lance!
