Rockford Fosgate's Prime R2 subs deliver strong bass in your car, and they are definitely built to last. The R2D2-12 sub features a 12" mica-injected polypropylene cone that works with a high-density poly-foam surround to punch out fat, deep notes. Rockford Fosgate stitches the tinsel leads that carry the signal to the voice coils directly into the cone — they'll hang tough through heavy use so you get consistent, reliable performance. The stamped solid-steel frame offers venting usually found in high-end subs that keeps this sub running cool.
Dual 2-ohm voice coils allow you to wire this sub for 1- or 4-ohm impedance, giving you more flexibility in setting up your system. Rockford Fosgate optimizes this Prime sub for both sealed and ported enclosures so you can choose the type of bass you want in your ride.
To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 200 and 375 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.
A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.
This 12 went into my wife's SUV "budget build". She gave me just enough room to upgrade some much needed features in her audio quality. This RF R2D2 was the right sub for the job. It requires very little power to get great bass and the Freq, ranges work well with all types of music that is played.
Pros: deep bass, build quality, terminals.
awesome head banging sound quality
Pros: deep bass, value, easy to install
Cons: none that come to mind
These are awesome. I've never gotten rocksford fosgate before( mostly cause there too expensive)but these are amazing. I've known about the company and how well there subs are made. I've really wanted some and now I have them, and there awesome. Even for 250 watts. They still thump good. And the sound quality ias amazing.
Pros: Very easy too install. Good sound quality and loundness factor.
Cons: So far nothing, And I've had them for almost 3 months. Still work like new. I really doubt there will be any problems for a long while.
I just put two of these 12's in a dual chamber sealed bbox on a prime r750-1d and they shake my whole car but retain clarity which I love!
Pros: Price. Size. Rms load
Cons: Logo came off the surround. So I just stuck it to my dash lol
Just plain awesome, what more could I say? Have two R2D2-12's wired at a 2 ohm load being pushed by a Rockford Fosgate 500 X1D, inside a 2005 f-150 standard cab with a sealed box, I made with a final box volume at 1.06 per speaker and they thump. Could not ask for anything more. Sound Quality awesome, Price awesome, Crutchfield lifetime tech support pricless!!!!!
Pros: Sound Quality, Price
Awesome speaker!!! Wish you could wire 2 of them to 2 ohms.
Pros: Great sound
Cons: Wish you could wire a pair of them to run at 2 ohms.
it sounds really great and looks cool in my jeep
Pros: i had two of these hooked up to a horrible amp and they still sounded great! best and loudest subs i have ever had. they have great lows mediums and highs. they are the perfect all around subs.
Cons: i loved everything!!!!!!

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate Prime R2D2-12 is a 12-inch subwoofer with dual 2Ω voice coils. The sub features a StampCast steel frame, quick-release compression terminals, and a mica injected polypropylene cone. An anodized aluminum voice coil former and spider venting help keep the subwoofer cool.
Steel Basket: The R2D2-12 subwoofer features a StampCast steel basket for added rigidity.
Compression Terminals: The Prime R2D2-12 features spring post terminals which accommodate speaker wire up to 12 gauge.
CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling on the Rockford Fosgate Prime R2D2-12 subwoofer conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards. This means the subwoofer has the capacity to handle power under continuous demand, not instantaneous power handling, that over time, can damage voice coils.
Sealed Box: Rockford recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 1.02 cubic feet (from 0.75 to 1.25 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.
Ported Box: Rockford recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.79 cubic feet using one 4" diameter x 9.3" long port; this yields a tuning frequency of 45 Hz. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output (below 40Hz).
