About the Rockford Fosgate R2D4-10

Jo Greene
Rockford Fosgate's Prime R2 subs deliver strong bass in your car, and they are definitely built to last. The R2D4-10 sub features a 10" mica-injected polypropylene cone that works with a high-density poly-foam surround to punch out fat, deep notes. Rockford Fosgate stitches the tinsel leads that carry the signal to the voice coils directly into the cone — they'll hang tough through heavy use so you get consistent, reliable performance. The stamped solid-steel frame offers venting usually found in high-end subs that keeps this sub running cool.

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate Prime R2D4-10 is a 10-inch subwoofer with dual 4Ω voice coils. The sub features a StampCast steel frame, quick-release compression terminals, and a mica injected polypropylene cone. An anodized aluminum voice coil former and spider venting help keep the subwoofer cool.

Steel Basket: The R2D4-10 subwoofer features a StampCast steel basket for added rigidity.

Compression Terminals: The Prime R2D4-10 features spring post terminals which accommodate speaker wire up to 12 gauge.

CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling on the Rockford Fosgate Prime R2D4-10 subwoofer conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards. This means the subwoofer has the capacity to handle power under continuous demand, not instantaneous power handling, that over time, can damage voice coils.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Rockford recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 0.59 cubic feet (from 0.5 to 0.75 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: Rockford recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.4 cubic feet using one 4" diameter x 13" long port; this yields a tuning frequency of 43 Hz. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output (below 40Hz).

kelly  Jun 08, 2022

That amp is not able to work with this subwoofer This subwoofer should be used with an amp that can output 175-250 watts RMS at 2 ohms.

Q
Best way to hook up 1 of these subs to a JL JX500/1 ab mono amp?
pdpunome  Dec 05, 2015
2 answers
A
Since it's a dual 4 ohm. I would wire it parallel to 2 ohms to that amp, but be careful with the gains. You could blow it cuz rated power is 250rms. I ran mine at 2ohms with my jbl gtx500 with gain at 1/5 and it hit hard and clean

Hi. I have a stereo amp, but I run it in "bridged" mode. If my memory serves me right, it's a 2 ohm amp, and I ran the 2 speaker coils wired in parallel. So, it's bridged to mono. I previously tried the "stereo" route with it, but it didn't sound better, and I think not as loud.

Q
How to set up 2 of these subs with an alpine m500 amp. Wiring ?
eric oram  Jul 03, 2014

A
Each speaker has two four ohm coils in it, so you need to wire each speaker in series (positive to negative) then the two speakers in parallel from the amp (positive to positive : negative to negative) The math works out to a 4 ohm load.
