About the Rockford Fosgate R2SD4-10

Rockford Fosgate's Prime R2 shallow-mount subs deliver satisfying bass even in smaller cars where space is tight. A special elevated motor structure lets these low-profile subs work in extremely compact enclosures, while still handling plenty of power.

Rockford Fosgate's Prime R2 shallow-mount subs deliver satisfying bass even in smaller cars where space is tight. A special elevated motor structure lets these low-profile subs work in extremely compact enclosures, while still handling plenty of power.

The R2SD4-10 sub features a 10" mica-injected polypropylene cone that works with a high-density poly-foam surround to punch out fat, deep notes. This shallow-mount workhorse will handle up to 200 watts RMS, with a mounting depth of only 3-1/2". Rockford Fosgate stitches the tinsel leads that carry the signal to the voice coils directly into the cone, so they'll hang tough through heavy use. The stamped solid-steel frame offers the same venting found in standard-mount Rockford Fosgate subs to keep this sub running cool.

Dual 4-ohm voice coils allow you to wire this sub for 2- or 8-ohm impedance, giving you more flexibility in setting up your system. Rockford Fosgate optimizes this Prime sub for both sealed and ported enclosures so you can choose the type of bass you want in your ride.

Product Research

Features

Shallow Mount Design: The Rockford Fosgate Prime R2 Shallow Subwoofer is designed and engineered with a much smaller motor assembly which reduces the overall depth of the woofer allowing it to fit in shallower enclosures and tighter locations of your vehicle.

Dual 4-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 4-ohm voice coils to offer wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel the woofer presents a 2-ohm load, when wired in series it presents an 8-ohm load.

Spring Post Assembly: The woofer features compression input terminals with attached 16-gauge stitched tinsel lead wires. The nickel plated spring posts will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, and bare wire up to 12-gauge.

Sealed Box Volume: Rockford Fosgate recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 0.7 cubic feet (from 0.5 to 0.75 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Vented Box Volume: Rockford Fosgate recommends a vented enclosure with an internal volume of 1.4 cubic feet using a 4" diameter x 13.7" long port tube; this yields a tuning frequency of 42 Hz. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output (below 35 Hz).

Q
Purchased this speaker in July and have since fried my amp. It was old and had been through a lot of abuse. So, i'm in the marker for a solid amp for this speaker, could be RF or some other brand, looking to get the most bass from this speaker as possible, I need wiring and amp suggestions please. What are your suggestions?

Greetings David, sorry to hear about your amp. So this Rockford is rated for 200 watts. technically, I have to recommend a 200 watt amp. Afterall we dont want to have to replace the sub because the amp was too much. You have to go with a mono amp with this sub. 200 watts for a mono amp is low. most are 400 and up, so the selection is not much. I have a compact Alpine that will work perfectly with this sub. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500KTA200M/Alpine-KTA-200M-Power-Pack.html?tp=35834 https://www.crutchfield.com/p_007CK12/Crutchfield-CK12.html

Q
Will this work to replace my sub on my 2012 audi a6 with a base (non bose) stereo?
heidi  Jun 01, 2023

A
Greetings Heidi, and thank you for your question. Technically this subwoofer will fit in the factory location. But you are going to need an amplifier for an aftermarket subwoofer. Your factory sub is a single coil 3.2 ohm, and this sub would either be wired to 2 ohms or 8.

Q
How do these get wired using a 2 channel amp to end up at 2ohm at the amp?
bret  Nov 30, 2019
1 answer
A
Bret, the majority of 2 channel amps are not 2-ohm stable once bridged. You could lower a single one of these subwoofers to 2-ohms by wiring the voice coils in parallel. You would want to ensure that the amplifer you were using was 2-ohm stable. One of our friendly advisors would love to help you. https://www.crutchfield.com/support/ContactUs.aspx

I have aftermarket door speakers and stereo. Which amp would you prefer to run that with two of these speakers?

I bought a Rockford Fosgate Prime R600X5 600W RMS 5-Channel Car Amplifier to power my system using these same 10" subs. It sounds great!
james  Mar 10, 2016

I bought two of these and put in an under the backseat box of a ram. I also had aftermarket speakers. I used a 14 year old 600 watt kenwood amp and they worked just fine for me. I listen to different kinds of music and they all sound good with this setup
richard paul  Mar 09, 2016

If you're happy with the performance of the door speakers off of the deck leave them there. And get a 500 W class D Rockford amp for the two Subs.
curtis  Mar 09, 2016

I always prefer Rockford Fosgate amplifiers for a Woffer I would suggest a mono amp with two channels and A & B I use a Rockford Fosgate 300 mono a&b channel bridged to drive 1 -10 I hope that helps you
dan  Mar 09, 2016

Personally have a 4 channel amp for my all of my door speakers (infinity kappa five amp, and infinity kappa speakers), then I got a 400w rms at 4ohm kenwood amplifier, that was faftory referbished from crutchfield and I'm very happy with it. I would get the 2 ohm verion of the subwoofer if you're going yo power 2 subs because you can get a 400w 2ohm amp cheaper than a 400w 4ohm amp. Hope it helps!

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

What amp Is best if I wanted to run two of these subs under my back seats in an extended cab GMC Sierra?
tyler james  Nov 03, 2014
A
This would need to be a custom install, so we don't have exact fit information. However, if you would like to contact and Advisor by phone or chat they may be able to pull up your vehicle and determine the mounting depth available.
