Rockford Fosgate's Prime R2 shallow-mount subs deliver satisfying bass even in smaller cars where space is tight. A special elevated motor structure lets these low-profile subs work in extremely compact enclosures, while still handling plenty of power.

The R2SD4-10 sub features a 10" mica-injected polypropylene cone that works with a high-density poly-foam surround to punch out fat, deep notes. This shallow-mount workhorse will handle up to 200 watts RMS, with a mounting depth of only 3-1/2". Rockford Fosgate stitches the tinsel leads that carry the signal to the voice coils directly into the cone, so they'll hang tough through heavy use. The stamped solid-steel frame offers the same venting found in standard-mount Rockford Fosgate subs to keep this sub running cool.

Dual 4-ohm voice coils allow you to wire this sub for 2- or 8-ohm impedance, giving you more flexibility in setting up your system. Rockford Fosgate optimizes this Prime sub for both sealed and ported enclosures so you can choose the type of bass you want in your ride.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 150 and 300 watts RMS at 2 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Great sub for the price. Crisp lows and power.

I love these subs (I bought 2), and they work amazingly. I have both hooked up to a 400w at 4 ohm kenwood amp and I couldn't be much happier with them, they have great response, enough boom to rattle everything and hear from other cars, but I wish they were just a little bit louder, to go better with my amplified speakers. They're about a 4.8/5 in my opinion because of that. They don't even sound like they're shallow mounted, they're much louder than most shallow mounts.

Pros: Easy to wire Shallow mount Rattle a lot of stuff

Cons: Could be a little louder, but what more can you ask for a shallow mount?

I built a sub enclosure for my f250 but a normal sub wouldn't fit behind the seat. I ordered the Rockford sub for the shallow depth and was pleased that it fit with no problems.

Sounds great. Only downfall I have associated with this sub is there should be more technical information. IE. there are two speaker coils and the ohms each would've been nice to know before purchasing. I am currently using half, because to use full sub will require me to purchase another amp. We mounted this in a .5cu ft box and used the stuffing, it sounds clear and strong..

Pros: compact

Cons: need more technical information

I have three of these Rockfords in my 2013 Tacoma. It's load and clear. These are low depths to deal with my no room. They will blow you out of the truck and tickle the ear.

Pros: Low depth

Cons: None that I've seen.

I've got this sub hooked up at 2 ohms to a Punch 300 in an super cab truck.(a little overkill for this sub, gain is only a third of the way up) It sounds very clean and not over powering. The HU is a pioneer avh4500 and helps balance everything out. Especially with 400 watts RMS easily making the super pop.

Pros: Fits perfect under the seat of my super cab truck, covers the lows really well and precise.

Cons: Easy to make pop with 400 watts RMS. Not really the subs fault.

Awesome subs, had two of these in my Explorer Sport Trac, and they gave a definate improvement over stock bass. I was running a 770w JBL amp and these subs made hip hop and rap sound a lot better. Was great for rock too. But long bass notes like in dubstep or EDM made the subs pop and stop until bass levels were slow again.

Pros: Cheap, look very nice, very slim, punchy bass

Cons: Don't handle long bass notes well

Very nice

Replaced my Bass Link II with this low profile sub and a Pioneer low profile box so it would fit in the storage area behind the back seat of my Tacoma. Was a little worried at first. Have bridged but was getting only decent bass. A few days later and I had to back it down. WOW. Not disappointed in the least. Love it.

Pros: Low profile for tight areas and clean tight bass.

Cons: None that I can find.

Nice replacement for my stock woofer.

I was skeptical about what type of system I wanted to put in my 2007 Honda Pilot. I replaced my stock speakers with Alpine 610's and 610 components. I caught the flu bug, had to do more!!!!! The stock head unit was not putting out enough power but the speakers sounded great. I ended up buying the Alpine hd137bt and wow that made a whole world of difference powering the new speakers. I lost the stock subwoofer but gained clarity and some nice bass. I still wanted more. I was pondering on replacing it going all Alpine E sub, but found I only had so much space behind the speaker. I only had about 4 to 4.5 inches inches top mounting the subwoofer and needed a nice replacement. I did not want to make a spacer so I bought this sub. I hooked it up day using the Rockford Fosgate 250 1 d. I highly recommend this amp for under the passenger front seat, it is a big punch in a small package especially for one sub. I tested it out today and boy did it come alive! I have not tuned the sub and amp yet but puts out way more clean tight bass then I ever thought it would. So if you have a 2007 Honda pilot and want to do a make over this is a great sub to just plug and play. (I had to mark and pre-drill holes for a nice flush fit.) I also put some poly fill behind the sub as well filling up the areas behind the sub all around the open cavity about 9 oz or so. I used the RockfordFosgate 8 gauge amp kit and hid my wires under the carpet for a nice clean install. I'm happy now !

Pros: I am amazed at this shallow subs performance. I used to have to Kicker 8 inch Comps in a band pass box with an alpine and those hit hard, but this sub is more than I could have imagained.

Cons: None yet!

Product Research

Features

Shallow Mount Design: The Rockford Fosgate Prime R2 Shallow Subwoofer is designed and engineered with a much smaller motor assembly which reduces the overall depth of the woofer allowing it to fit in shallower enclosures and tighter locations of your vehicle.

Dual 4-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 4-ohm voice coils to offer wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel the woofer presents a 2-ohm load, when wired in series it presents an 8-ohm load.

Spring Post Assembly: The woofer features compression input terminals with attached 16-gauge stitched tinsel lead wires. The nickel plated spring posts will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, and bare wire up to 12-gauge.

Sealed Box Volume: Rockford Fosgate recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 0.7 cubic feet (from 0.5 to 0.75 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Vented Box Volume: Rockford Fosgate recommends a vented enclosure with an internal volume of 1.4 cubic feet using a 4" diameter x 13.7" long port tube; this yields a tuning frequency of 42 Hz. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output (below 35 Hz).

3 of them fill my f150 behind the seat. just enough air in the box I built. 500x1d, 3 10"@4ohm. 2.6ish ohms. ROCKS!!!! [ jason  Mar 08, 2016 ]

I bought a Rockford Fosgate Prime R600X5 600W RMS 5-Channel Car Amplifier to power my system using these same 10" subs. It sounds great! [ Mitch  Mar 10, 2016 ]
I bought two of these and put in an under the backseat box of a ram. I also had aftermarket speakers. I used a 14 year old 600 watt kenwood amp and they worked just fine for me. I listen to different kinds of music and they all sound good with this setup [ Paul  Mar 09, 2016 ]
If you're happy with the performance of the door speakers off of the deck leave them there. And get a 500 W class D Rockford amp for the two Subs. [ CURTIS  Mar 09, 2016 ]
I always prefer Rockford Fosgate amplifiers for a Woffer I would suggest a mono amp with two channels and A & B I use a Rockford Fosgate 300 mono a&b channel bridged to drive 1 -10 I hope that helps you [ PAMELA S  Mar 09, 2016 ]
Personally have a 4 channel amp for my all of my door speakers (infinity kappa five amp, and infinity kappa speakers), then I got a 400w rms at 4ohm kenwood amplifier, that was faftory referbished from crutchfield and I'm very happy with it. I would get the 2 ohm verion of the subwoofer if you're going yo power 2 subs because you can get a 400w 2ohm amp cheaper than a 400w 4ohm amp. Hope it helps! [ Andrew  Mar 08, 2016 ]
Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system. [ Krissy  Nov 03, 2014 ]  Staff
What amp Is best if I wanted to run two of these subs under my back seats in an extended cab GMC Sierra? [ Tyler  Nov 03, 2014 ]
This would need to be a custom install, so we don't have exact fit information. However, if you would like to contact and Advisor by phone or chat they may be able to pull up your vehicle and determine the mounting depth available. [ Jeff  Dec 06, 2013 ]  Staff
