Rugged performance and value

The R600X5's heavy cast-aluminum chassis efficiently draws damaging heat away from its internal components, ensuring reliable, long-term play. The amp's built-in sensors keep track of the output current and power supply temperature, ensuring that plunging impedances (they change constantly during play) or even a short circuit won't hurt anything. Your driver's seat will become your favorite place for listening to music once this Prime amp goes to work.

Features

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate Prime R600X5 is a 5-channel amplifier, with full range two 2-channel amps and a mono subwoofer amp built into one chassis. The front and rear amps are class A/B with identical but independent controls (gain, crossover, Punch EQ). The subwoofer amp is class D with its own gain, crossover, phase, and Punch EQ controls. The front and rear channels are bridgeable, so the amp can also be used in 4-channel or 3-channel modes.

CEA 2006 Compliant: The R600X5's power ratings and signal to noise ratio are measured according to the uniform standards advocated by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). This allows you to accurately compare these specifications for all CEA 2006-compliant amplifiers, even from different brands. Manufacturers who adhere to these standards can display the CEA 2006 logo on their products and packaging. CEA2006 Specifications for this amplifier are:

  • 4 Ohms: 50 watts RMS x 4 plus 200 watts RMS x 1, 14.4 volts, and less than 1% THD+N
  • 2 Ohms: 75 watts RMS x 4 plus 300 watts RMS x 1, 14.4 volts, and less than 1% THD+N
  • Bridged: 150 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms, 14.4 volts, and less than 1% THD+N (front and rear channels only)
  • S/N: 80 dB, measured at 1 watt output (100 dB measured at rated power)

LED Indicator: The amplifier is equipped with an LED power/protect indicator. The LED illuminates blue when the unit is turned on. It illuminates red if the thermal or short circuit protection circuit is engaged, and the amplifier will automatically turn off.

Mounting: The amplifier can be mounted vertically or horizontally using the supplied mounting screws. The amplifier should never be mounted in an engine compartment as this will void the warranty.

Controls

Gain Controls: The front, rear, and subwoofer amplifier channels have independent gain controls. Each rotary control is labeled 1 to 11 and has a sensitivity range of 150mV to 4V when using the RCA inputs, 450mV to 12V when using the speaker level inputs.

Remote Punch Level Control: The R600X5 includes a wired Remote Punch Level Control, linked to the gain control of the subwoofer amplifier. The module allows you to remotely control the output level of the sub from the dash or center console. The Remote Punch Level Control features a rotary dial, and comes with mounting hardware and an 18' cable.

Note: The Remote Punch Level Control measures approximately 1-3/4" wide (2-5/8" including the mounting flange) x 3/4" high x 1-5/8" deep (2-1/8" deep including the knob and wiring).

Crossover: Each section of the amplifier has independent crossover controls:

  • Front: low-pass, high-pass, or full-range; 12 dB/octave slope; crossover point continuously variable from 50 to 250 Hz
  • Rear: low-pass, high-pass, or full-range; 12 dB/octave slope; crossover point continuously variable from 50 to 250 Hz
  • Subwoofer: low-pass, always engaged; 12 dB/octave slope; crossover point continuously variable from 50 to 250 Hz

Punch EQ: Each section of the amplifier also has independent Punch EQ controls:

  • Front: 0 (flat), +6 dB, or +12 dB; centered at 45 Hz
  • Rear: 0 (flat), +6 dB, or +12 dB; centered at 45 Hz
  • Subwoofer: adjustable from 0 (flat) to +12dB; centered at 45Hz

Phase: The subwoofer amp has a 2-position phase switch to allow you to easily reverse the output phase of the amplifier, choose 0° or 180° to match the rest of your vehicle's speaker system.

Input Switch:

  • 2-CH: when using only the front inputs
  • 4-CH: when using the front and rear inputs
  • 5-CH: when using the front, rear, and sub inputs
Connections

Power Terminals: The power and ground terminals are nickel-plated set screw terminals and will accommodate up to 4 gauge power and ground wires.

Fuse: An external 80-amp fuse (not included) must be installed on the power wire at the battery. If a wiring kit is used which includes a fuse with a value other than 80-amps, the original should be replaced with a 80-amp fuse.

Remote Terminal: The remote turn-on terminal is a nickel-plated set screw terminal that will accommodate up to an 8 AWG wire. It's used to remotely turn the amplifier on and off.

Speaker Terminals: The five pair of speaker outputs are nickel-plated set screw terminals what will accommodate up to 8 AWG speaker wire.

RCA Input Jacks: Front, rear, and subwoofer RCA input jacks provide an easy connection for preamp level inputs. They are nickel-plated to resist signal degradation caused by corrosion.

Speaker Level Input: Two speaker level input harnesses are included, making it easier to add the amplifier to a factory radio or to a receiver with no preamp outputs.

Wired Remote: An RJ-25 jack is used with the included Remote Punch Level Control.

Hi Heath, thank you for your question. If you will not be using all of the line-level inputs on the Rockford Fosgate R600X5 amplifier, you will be able to wire your JL Audio MBT-CRX Bluetooth adapter to the amplifier. Hope this helps!

Personally I just tapped into the original speaker wire in the door. Spliced new speaker wire in from near original connections to factory speaker and ran the new lines from there to amp. Ran wire runs to the trunk from the front x 2 and back x1. (I have a hybrid so my main battery is in my trunk) This gave me speaker runs for all four doors plus an extra pair coming from the front to give signal to sub. This is not ideal ofc, however I chose to keep my factory radio (heavy integration with car tech ~ steering wheel buttons) and didn't opt to buck the extra cash for a digital signal processor - did my upgrades myself. Cheers & good luck mate

What is the dampening factor on the front, sub channels?

I haven't measured and calculated this on mine, but the manufacturer specs list it as >200. I come from the old days of Orion HCCA type equipment and as a replacement for my Honda system, this amp handled the conversion well with great quality. I run multi way 6-1/2's in the 4 doors and a 10" RF sub all from this amp. It is well worth the price.

Q
I have ordered 2 pairs of component speakers for the 4 chanels. For the sub, can i use 2-8" p2d2? Or 2-10" p2d2. Will it overload this amp? Any recommendation in using 2 sub speakers? Thanks, RF fan

SeparatesDepends on how you wire up the speakers. If you know ohms law you can calculate and wire it up in several different ways to get different loads. Since these are Dual Voice Coil it is similar to having 2x the speakers. The R600X5 is good down to 2 ohms. So if you wired the subs in series to the second voice coil and then those to the AMP in parallel, you will end up with 2ohms and maximize what the amp is capable of. In my case I only had one sub with dual voice coil, so I planned on wiring in parallel only so I could get the extra power from the amp. Ohms law is handy to know in these situations.

Q
Can I run channels 1-4 on 4-Ohms and then use the 5th (Sub channel) to run at 2-Ohms? Or does it all have to be 4-Ohms or 2-Ohms?
steve  Feb 24, 2016

A
That is exactly how I am running mine. I have 4 R165X3 door speakers (4 ohms each) running to the 4 channels, then I have a 2 ohm 10" P1 sub to the 5th channel. You actually get 2x the power by having a 2 ohm load instead of 4 so I recommend it. The amp has nice built in crossovers for front rear and sub as well.
douglas  Feb 27, 2016
A
Yes you can run 1-4 at 4 ohms and sub at 2 or 4 ohms
sal  Feb 25, 2016

That's what the web site says on the specs, I have not installed this yet , but its the way I am planning on running it.

Q
I have a PAC converter which has 2 pairs of RCA out's (front and rear). This amp has a 3rd input for Sub. If I do not have this Sub RCA input, will the sub output still work? Do I use 4 or 5 channel setting?
scott  Dec 22, 2015
1 answer
A
You can use the 4-channel setting and the sub will still work when wired to the subwoofer channel on the amp, it's just that you won't have individual crossover/filter controls on the subwoofer channel in that case. If you wanted that ability you'd need to use an RCA splitter to split the rear outputs and run a separate RCA cable to the subwoofer input on the amp. This Monster RCA "Y" adapter would work well for that: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_119ILJRY2F/Monster-Cable-1-Male-2-Female-RCA-Y-adapter.html

Q
If I switch to 4 channel will power output be greater or is sub 5th channel dedicated to sub? If yes doe sub Channel have filter to run full range? How could I wire to take advantage of 5th channel as I now bought the 750w mono block Rockford for sub control?
jeff  Dec 01, 2015
1 answer
A
The first four channels have HP/LP crossovers and are bridgeable to 2 channels. 150w x 2 RMS. The 5th channel IS a dedicated sub channel with 200w RMS @ 4 ohms and 300w RMS @ 2ohms. Presently I have a four channel Axxera mini amp running my front speakers (Polk Audio components in all four doors), and the 600x5 in 3 channel running my mid-bass Kicker 6 3/4s and a Rockford 12" HX2 (on the dedicated 5th channel). In your set-up, if you wanted to add some mid-bass, (80Hz to 250Hz), you could feasibly do so by using that 5th channel. It will NOT be in stereo, but it could be done. Or, if the worst happens and you fry your dedicated sub amplifier, you have a backup in the 5th channel. If you're asking about that 2ch/4ch/5ch switch, that's for input. The 5 channels on this amp can be used solely from a 2 channel input, (unlike my digital Axxera amps, lol). Feel free to ask me more questions anytime. Fritz

What's the actual rms power for the speaker channels?? I know RF likes to underrate the outputs and I wanna make sure that it won't blow my speakers. It has a 70watt max so I and hoping it's no more than 60 or so

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The RMS power output per channel on this amplifier is 50 watts RMS at 4 ohms and 75 watts RMS at 2 ohms. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
Can this amp power two 8" punch subs?
tim  Oct 03, 2014
3 answers
A
May not be a good one to ask since I myself thought it was short on power & punch so I returned it to Crutchfield
greg  Oct 08, 2014
A
That depends on the output of your Subs. If they are 150 each then it would work but it is always better to be a little over powered on the amp side of things that way it does not have to work as hard. If I drive a 300 watts in Subs then I want no less than a 400 watt amp. 5 Channel amps are nice and cost more but you could buy 1 amp for your speakers and buy another just for the amps. I use Crutchfields house brand amps and they work great. You can buy 2 house brand amps for less than you would pay for a 5 channel amp. That will leave you money to buy cables and wire
