Here's a loud, noisy passenger that you can't wait to welcome into your vehicle. The RFP3412 is part of the Punch HE series of subwoofers, and it's certain to add explosive bass to your ride.

The fanatics at Rockford Fosgate have developed a new material called FIBERLock — a blend of paper fibers that are chemically fused and treated with an acrylic emulsion — for the powerful and smooth-sounding woofer cone in this 12" sub. The treated foam surround helps to create a smooth path for the cone while resisting adverse climatic and road conditions. All in all, this passenger is into some serious sonic ride-sharing!

  • FIBERLock woofer cone

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

can definatly tame more than the 400w max power. i have a 2000 watt lensar audio 2000 watt bridgeable 2 channel with the subs wired in parallel. 1000 watts per sub at 2 ohms not 4. excellent subwoofer. puts newer ones to shame

Pros: if you can find one still its the most bang for buck and when i say bang its a big bang

Cons: such a low power rating. could be a dual voice coil for better power. that right they do do that now

FIBERLock Cone: This new high performance paper stock is a combination of natural and regenerated cellulose fibers interlaced with a third, longer fiber. The three natural fibers are chemically fused together with a blend of three interactive binding agents. The extremely high fibril strength and toughness comes from the combination of all six of these component layers. FIBERLock is light, tough and it's proven to have superior sound quality and incredible durability. The cone is then treated with a Thermally Cured Acrylic Emulsion that seals the cone body for exceptional damping and even greater rigidity, resulting in industrial strength power handling.

BART Foam Surround: The BART surround has a large roll to assure maximum cone travel. By increasing cone travel, the BART surround allows the woofer to produce more bass.

Dual Laminated Progressive Flat Spider: The dual laminated progressive flat spider provides a very strong suspension for the woofer. A secondary spider is fused to the primary spider near the critical voice coil bonding point. The combination of the two spiders, in addition to the progressive rolls in the spiders, provides the ultimate in linear control for high excursion capability.

Aluminum Voice Coil Formers: The voice coil formers are aluminum for highly efficient heat transfer. This allows the use of multiple layers of high temperature copper windings for improved efficiency, and it improves power handling by effectively dissipating heat away from the voice coil windings.

LXcursion Stamped Basket: The Punch woofers use a durable and lightweight stamped cold rolled steel basket. To help prevent the spider from hitting the bottom of the basket ("soft bottoming"), the LXcursion basket features a deep step that moves the physical boundaries of the basket further away from the spider; this allows the cone far greater travel and, therefore more bass, without soft bottoming.

Hyper-Extended Pole Piece: The pole piece is extended in length to lower distortion and provide better low frequency response by operating the voice coil in a linear fashion throughout its travel in the magnetic field.

Vented Bumped Back Plate: The back plate has been bumped to allow the woofer more room for excursion without bottoming out. Additionally, "Aerovent" cooling efficiently and quietly circulates cool air around the voice coil using a back plate that is vented with a radiused aerodynamic back vent. By keeping the voice coil cooler, power handling is improved.

CONsealer Gasket: A newly designed front gasket conceals mounting screws and provides an airtight seal between the woofer frame and the mounting surface. A better seal increases the amount of bass due to the elimination of air leaks.

Rubber Magnet Boot: A black rubber boot covers the exposed edge of the magnet structure to improve the cosmetics of the woofer and protect the magnet during installation. The rubber boot looks great when the woofer is mounted in an enclosure with a window that allows you to see the back of the woofer.

This woofer is designed to work best in the following enclosures:

  • A small, sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 1.25 cubic feet (0.9-1.75 cu/ft acceptable)
  • A ported enclosure with an internal volume of 2.0 cubic feet (1.5-2.75 cu/ft acceptable) with a  4" diameter x 10.75" long port
