About the Rockford Fosgate T1650-S

Alexander H.

A powerful option

Rockford Fosgate designed the Power T1650-S component speaker system for people who won't put up with inferior sound in their cars. Each 6-1/2" woofer features a responsive carbon fiber/polypropylene cone and Santoprene rubber surround that'll stand up to hours of high-volume jams. The separate 1" dome tweeter provides clear, extended highs that can hold their own when the bass gets heavy. The included external crossover network sports selectable tweeter levels and on/off axis switching, allowing you to sculpt the high frequencies to your car's interior.
Crossover networks

Rockford Fosgate includes external crossover networks with selectable tweeter levels for fine tuning your sound.

Signature Rockford Fosgate design

Proprietary VAST™ technology increases the woofer's cone area without increasing the size of the basket, giving you  deeper lows and more power handling. And open slots on the heavy-duty aluminum frame make it easier to install these speakers if the factory holes are slightly off, especially in certain European imports.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Features

Injection-Molded Woofers: The woofer cones are injection-molded carbon fiber filled polypropylene. This molding process assures a uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. It is also light weight and rigid for decreased distortion and improved bass response.

Klippel Verified: The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in motion, lets Rockford Fosgate optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

VAST Surround: The Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) increases a speaker's effective radiating cone area without increasing the size of the basket.

FlexFit 2 Basket: The FlexFit 2 frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

Size Classification Note: Some manufacturers, including Rockford Fosgate, call this size speaker a 6-1/2". Because it requires a larger cutout than a standard 6-1/2" speaker, Crutchfield has traditionally referred to this size woofer as a 6-3/4". Please refer to the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm fit in your vehicle.

Mounting: The 1" treated cloth dome tweeters have multiple mounting configurations; choose flush or surface mount. The surface mount housing can be positioned at two angles, approximately 10° or 30° angle. Depending on the mount used, the installed dimensions are:

  Flush Surface 10° Surface 30°
Mounting Height 0.40" 1.092" 1.340"
Mounting Depth 0.912" Screw Depth Screw Depth
Frame Diameter 2.357" N/A N/A
Cutout Diameter 1.75" N/A N/A
Frame Width N/A 2.128" 2.128"
Frame Depth N/A 2.151" 2.144"

Tweeter Level: A switch on the side of each crossover allows you to adjust the output level of the tweeters to -2 dB, 0 dB, or +2 dB.

Tweeter Axis: Another switch on each crossover adjusts the tweeter output for on axis or off axis placement.

Bi-amp: The crossovers have discrete inputs for the woofer and tweeter, along with a bi-amp on/off switch, so each component can be powered by an individual amplifier channel.

Slope: The crossover slope is 18 dB/octave high pass and 12 dB/octave low pass.

Wiring: The crossover inputs and outputs are set screw clamps; they will accept bare wire up to 10-gauge.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Width: 4-5/8"
  • Height: 1-3/8"
  • Depth: 4-5/8"

Q
What is the high/low pass crossover frequency?
tony  Dec 02, 2020
1 answer
A
The crossover frequency is not listed in the manual nor on their web site. I recommend contacting Rockford Fosgate by calling 800-669-9899 to see if they can supply that information

Q
Best amp to run on these?

I can't say the best amp because I only used one amp which is the fosgate T1000X5ad and they sound great
ross  Sep 10, 2020

I am using two amplifiers with these speakers a JL Audio RD400 / 4 for the mids and a JL Audio MX500 / 4 for the Tweeters and I got very good results
renzo  Sep 09, 2020

I had these speakers just over a year and they blew. Definitely reconsidering Rockford Fosgate!!
michael  Sep 09, 2020
A
Tons of great options out there. The Rockford Fosgate P600x4 would be a perfect match for 2 sets of them, or biamp the crossover and run the amp to midwoofer and tweeter separately on one pair of speakers.

Q
What does the bi-amp switch on the crossover do? Does the passive crossover still change the signals or is the electronics completely bypassed when in bi-amp mode?
jeth  Aug 22, 2019
1 answer
A
Hi! Thanks for your question! The Bi-amp switch on the crossover the T1650-S, will allow you to power the woofer and tweeter separately, off of their own discreet amps. You will still have crossover control when using bi-amp mode. Chat with an Advisor online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695 if you have any other questions on those!

Q
What is the purpose of the bi-amp switch on the passive crossover of this set? It seems most would rather have a bi-amp setup of an active crossover with 2 amplifiers connected directly to each the mid speaker and tweeter without going through any passive crossover. So why have a passive crossover in a bi-amp setup?
jeth  Aug 17, 2019
1 answer
A
Not all amplifiers have high pass filters that are adequate to protect the tweeter, The bi-amp setting on allows separate amplification, while still having the Fosgate specific protection for your speakers. You don't necessarily have to have it if you are using a DSP module or amplifier with a highly adjustable, good enough crossover, but is still recommended by Rockford Fosgate.

Q
Will these pair good with a fosgate 2 channel 300w amp? For my motorcycle.
cedric  Mar 26, 2018

A
These are rated at 80 watts rms each channel. I'm assuming your 2 channel 300w amp is 150 watts rms each channel. That is border line too much power in my opinion, but I think you can get away with it just be careful when cranking up the volume. If you already have the amp I'd say go for it, but if you are buying a new amp I would get one that is 100 watts per channel. I currently have these in my car with 100 watt rms per channel rockford amp and they sound amazing.
brian  Apr 04, 2018
A
Well I have them on a 600 power 4 channel amp and they seem to want more power
