Overview

Our take on the Rockford Fosgate T2D215

The T2D215 15" subwoofer uses an anodized aluminum cone with a high-excursion rubber surround for accurate, powerful bass. The huge 304-ounce magnet structure teams up with 4" voice coils for power handling up to 1,200 watts RMS or 2,400 watts peak. Whether you're a competitor or just a fan of great bass, you'll appreciate the extensive venting in the cast aluminum frame that keeps the woofer cool even during heavy use.

This subwoofer works in a sealed or ported enclosure. The dual 2-ohm voice coils allow you to wire your system to draw maximum power from your 1-ohm stable mono amp or to hook up multiple subs safely.

Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 900 and 1800 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

This sub is a beast, nothing more I can say.

BOOM!

Army Guy! from Bowling Green, KY on 5/23/2013

I purchased 2 of these monsters and installed them in a 2003 Suburban, and have had nothing but the Best sound, quality, and price for a sub this size. I'm pushing these Bad Boys to the Max Daily with 800 watts on each sub. I have 2 Rockford Fosgate T-1000's driving the power to these Beasts. Definately the best Subwoofer I have ever purchased.

Pros: Quality/durabilty/and overall bass production

Cons: Should come with grill covers to protect my investment from taking a beating from day to day objects being put in my vehicle close to my subs.

Best Sub Ever

Brock O. from Malvern, Arkansas on 3/2/2013

I am a mechanic and do a lot of car audio. I got one of these subwoofers and built the box to specs and tuned it to 35 hz at 1 ohm for a whopping 1600 watts RMS!! I have a Hifonics Brutus BXi1610D mono block amplifier and it hits unbelievably hard great sub worth every bit of its price! (Btw this 1 sub is louder than the 3 JL 12's I had hooked up for compitition) awesome product!!

Pros: This Subwoofer is great and under rated its rates at 1200 watts rms but will defiantly handle more i have 1600 watts rms going to it but it will still hold more

Cons: It's a 15 which means no more trunk space for those with average sized trunks in their cars but that comes with the territory I really have nothing bad to say about this speaker.

Features

Dual 2-ohm Voice Coils: The woofer features dual 2-ohm voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1-ohm load; when the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents a 4-ohm load.

Woofer: The anodized aluminum woofer cone is lightweight and extremely strong, giving the woofer very high power handling, low distortion, and superior bass response. The dustcap is also anodized aluminum.

Parabolic Triangular Cone Geometry: By bonding an aluminum parabolic dust cap of equivalent size to the cone body, a balanced triangular structure is created. This system reduces piston flex and eliminates cone distortion.

IDHS: An Inductive Damping Heat Sink (IDHS) secures directly to the top of the magnet structure to improve system efficiency by reducing both distortion and back EMF (Electo-magnetic force). The IDHS also radiates heat to reduce voice coil temperature.

Stitched Tinsel Leads: The multipoint periodic technique of stitching the tinsel lead wires reduces the effective mass of each tinsel lead and spreads the stress and strain over a greater area, improving the reliability and performance of the subwoofer. These stitched tinsel leads withstand extreme duty cycles, fatigue, and high current that is critical to a robust design.

Anodized Aluminum Voice Coil Former: Aluminum voice coil formers offer superior heat dissipation over other commonly used materials. The hard-anodized finish increases the former strength. These two factors combine to improve the overall power handling characteristics of the subwoofer.

Cast Aluminum Basket: The two-piece die-cast aluminum "basket in a bucket" design adds rigidity and eliminates multiple acoustic resonances. Additionally, the large aluminum mass helps reduce voice coil former temperature and increase power handling.

Triple Stacked Magnet Motor Assembly: The stacked magnet assembly is used to create a powerful linear motor with increased excursion capability for superior bass output.

Terminals: The custom isolated compression terminals are spring loaded and will accept pin connectors and bare wire up to 8-gauge.

Concealing Ring: The metal concealing ring can be installed to hide the mounting screws, giving the subwoofer a finished look.

Enclosure Compatibility

Vented Enclosure: RockfordFosgate recommends mounting the woofer in a vented enclosure with an ideal internal volume of 2.75 ft³. One 6" diameter x 17" long port is recommended, resulting in a tuning frequency of 36 Hz.

Sealed Enclosure: If a sealed enclosure is used, RockfordFosgate recommends 2.0 ft³.

High Output Enclosure: Dimensions are also given for a high output slot loaded enclosure; 3.25 ft³ with a 3" x 16.5" x 22.5" slot port, resulting in a tuning frequency of 38 Hz.

If you are looking for maximum power handling, then 1200 is the number you want to look. The spread is the recommended wattage. Not less than 500, but not more than 1200. [ Jeff  Feb 09, 2015 ]  Staff
