Show your CDs some love

CD playback has been around for decades now. What once was regarded as a high-fidelity revolution has been dismissed or forgotten thanks to a new generation of playback possibilities. But if you've spent years painstakingly acquiring and maintaining a CD collection, you know the sonic capabilities of this still-relevant format. So give your CDs the love they deserve. The Onkyo C-7030 is a high-performance CD player — not a multi-purpose video device — designed solely to make CDs sound their best.

Designed with audiophiles in mind

So how does the C-7030 squeeze every drop of audio greatness out of your CDs? By reducing the opportunities for signal degradation so your music remains as sonically pure as possible. It starts with a large, custom-built transformer to provide plenty of clean power. The high-precision clock minimizes timing errors, or jitter, as the signal enters the digital-to-analog conversion. The D/A converter is a high-quality Wolfson 24-bit/192 kHz DAC, and Onkyo's Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry™ further ensures a sonically pure signal by reducing pulse noise at the conversion stage. It may sound complicated, but the gist is that Onkyo has gone the extra mile to ensure your CDs sound as clean and clear as possible.

The C-7030 will play standard CDs as well as MP3 and WMA CDs and CD-Rs/RWs. The heavy-duty chassis of this beefy 11.7-pound player is designed to prevent unwanted vibration and resonance. And the dedicated headphone amplifier circuitry includes volume control, so you can plug your favorite headphones directly into the C-7030 without using a separate amp or receiver.

Product Highlights:

  • plays standard CDs, MP3/WMA CDs, CD-Rs and CD-RWs
  • Wolfson® 192 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter
  • large power transformer, audiophile-grade capacitors and pulse noise-reduction circuitry for uncompromised audio playback

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a fine unit to get cleaned-up sound from your Cd's. I use mine for background music and can tell a marked difference from the old "black era" player that I replaced it with.....if you are an audiophile you'll need to add a digit to the price to find a better one....hence 4 stars rather than 5. I'd buy this again for my purpose.

Pros: Price, reasonably cleaned-up sound.

Cons: None at this price.

I bought this Onkyo to replace an aging 5-disc Yamaha carousel from the 1990s. The Yamaha was considered a good mid-range player back in the day, but this Onkyo just blows it out of the water. I guess technology has advanced in the last 25 years! Since the Yamaha still works fine (top marks for quality here) I hooked up both units to my amp for some A:B comparison. Well, the difference was pretty obvious. The Onkyo had cleaner bass, smoother midrange and superior stereo imaging. The biggest, sit-you-down-and-smack-you-in-the-face difference was in the treble. In comparison the old Yamaha had a harshness in the treble that was especially evident on recordings with a lot of cymbal and high-hat. The Onkyo was far smoother and easy to listen to, even with recordings that were older or not well engineered. In terms of detail, listening to symphonic music showed the Onkyo to be far superior for resolving the fine details, such as being able to hear and localize individual instruments in ensembles. Was this a fair comparison? No - the Yamaha is 25 years old! But it was really interesting to see how far technology has come. The Yamaha is a good quality machine so I suspect the difference is in the DAC chip. The Onkyo's sound is very impressive... let's hope it lasts as long as the Yamaha! Note: I don't play MP3s so I can't comment on how well the Onkyo handles this format.

Pros: Great sounding unit! Simple, clean design. Quiet. Can handle moderately scratched disks. Inexpensive.

Cons: Buttons on the unit hard to see in low light. Large remote control. Not super fast reading a new disk.

An Immediately Noticeable Difference

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Because I purchased this CD player based on the strength of its customer reviews, it seemed only fitting that I should add my own. What I first noticed is that the unit weighs 2-3 times as much as several older players I've owned: obvious evidence that Onkyo had "beefed-up" this device. What was next noticeable came with the very first track I played, a randomly selected Eva Cassidy vocal. The clarity of her voice and the delicate nuances that could be heard in its timber and phrasing were a bit startling to me. The sensation was repeated on several musical selections (mostly older blues, rock and jazz tunes from original analog recordings): I had heard these songs many times before, but felt in various ways that I was somehow hearing them for the first time. Over the years, I've become sold on Onkyo's rock-solid reliability (I have an early 1980's tuner/receiver that has been playing in my office daily, 8 - 10 hours/day, for the past 30+ years), and I expect this unit to follow suit. Although I initially questioned my wisdom in purchasing yet another CD player (how 20th Century!), I can assure you that my reservations have been happily, even joyously, answered. This rig is worthy of your listening. 5 Stars absolutely.

Pros: An excellent piece of equipment that produces sublime effects.

Cons: Do you really need another CD player?

Like the sound and how quiet it is, no noise while running. It makes analog recorded CD's sound like DDD recorded.

Pros: Makes all CD's sound like it's been recorded in DDD (Recorded, mixed and transferred in digital format)

Cons: Neighbors say the C-730 makes their CD Player sound bad.

Onkyo C-7030 CD Player

Written by: Frank T from New York on April 26, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently purchased the ONKYO C-7030 CD player from Crutchfield as a replacement for my ADCOM GCD-575 CD player, which served me well for 25 years. The ONKYO C-7030 holds it's own and then some in comparison, the sound stage on playback is exceptional, sound is detailed, crisp, clean and dynamic. Playback has no hint of sibilance, es-sing or edginess in the mid to high frequencies. The Onkyo's electronics are noise free when listening through headphones on either the player's headphone jack or my pre-amp via the Onkyo's analog connections. I also now have the ability of playing back CDRs of CD audio compilations burned on my computer which my older equipment could not play. The ONKYO C-7030 CD player is a winner and keeper, which not too long ago would have sold for 3-4x the price for what it achieves in sound quality alone. Suffice to say I am very happy with my purchase and with Crutchfield for their reasonable price, excellent service and very fast delivery.

Pros: Sound stage on playback is exceptional. Sound is detailed, crisp, clean and dynamic. Excellent Build Quality.

Cons: None

I won't buy Onkyo again.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not a bad CD Player, but barely lasted a year before it would only play the first half of a disc, and then skip and act erratically. Then two days later wouldn't play any thing. Crutchfield tried to help, but I can't tell if I just bought a lemon.

Pros: Played well when it played.

Cons: Barely lasted one year. Button design for play and repeat is very confusing. All my other CD players lasted a long time.

Excellent CD Player

Written by: jazz fan in Georgia from Atlanta area on April 7, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been listening to this CD player or about 4 months now and am very pleased with the sound. It is connected to a Onkyo A-9050 integrated amplifier (which is apparently no longer available), a pair of Klipsch RF600 speakers in the study and a pair of Polk MC80 ceiling speakers in the adjacent workshop, using Audioquest cables. My system is used for music only. I listen to mostly jazz, classical and sometimes progressive rock (Renaissance, Yes). If you connect this CD player to an Okyo amplifier or receiver, you need a cable with 2 male 3.5mm mini plugs in addition to the audio cable, in order for a single remote to control both components. The interconnect cable which comes with the player is only 31 inches long, so unless your components are very close together and you have access to the rear of the stack, order a longer cable, like Crutchfield part number 705STEREN6.

Pros: Excellent sound

Cons: none

I picked up an Onkyo amp from Crutchfield and wanted a CD player as well - did not want a multi-disc player - so went for this one. Yes, you must get up to change the CD but that is minor for me as the sound is awesome and it is easy to use (important for this old man). I rate it 5 stars - you will love it and the price.

Pros: Matches set, easy to use, sound great

Cons: single CD player - but you know this :)

I must admit I'm surprised at the difference this unit makes. The separation and clarity are amazing. I would strongly recommend this unit to anyone who is looking to enhance their listening experience.

Pros: Solid construction. Easy to set up and use.

Cons:

superior player

Written by: BillK from the Washington, DC Area on January 5, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The splendid clarity of this player justifies a top rating. As others have noted, the separation of instrumental lines and a natural, balanced bass resonance makes listening to older as well as recent CDs a great pleasure. Listening to primarily classical music from solo instruments to chamber, orchestral and opera performances, the older disks are often a revelation. The simple, clear design of the controls including the remote is admirable. This unit replaced a 5-disk player which was of little value over the years since that feature is most suited to background music, not close listening.

Pros: Simplicity of operation, wonderful balanced sound

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Onkyo C-7030 replaces TEAC CD-P1250 single disc player and I was surprised by the difference in weight when swapping the players. The TEAC failed to impress and broke way too soon. First impressions of Onkyo are very favorable, sounds very good in combination with my Technics SU-V300 new class A amplifier.

Pros: DA-converter and tracking mechanism is very stable and this unit plays discs that would no longer play / stutter on my old player very easy to operate

Cons: None as of yet

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Onkyo C-7030 CD player is very good. After the op amps and Wolfson DAC burn in, the highs are crystal clear and the bass is authoritative, but not over accentuated. It is a CD player that will make you want to listen to your entire collection again to hear what they are supposed to sound like. Classical sounds fantastic on this unit as does everything else I've played so far. It is a sturdy, well built player that will last a long time like other Onkyo products. You can't go wrong with Onkyo.

Pros: A heavy well built unit with great op amps and a fantastic Wolfson DAC. The musical reproduction is crystal clear. The remote has more features on it than I'll ever use.

Cons: I have not encountered any negatives yet, just enjoying the music.

Been wanting to replace Kenwood I had for decades. The make, DAC, & price caught my eye. Using ADCOM preamp {no tone controls}, DBX only for Impact Restoration {poor recordings that need Bass} & NAD amp to drive 4 Klipsch speakers at about 80 watts. Heard clarity between instruments immediately. Spending more $ will get you unneeded bells & whistles.

I own a mixed component stereo I bought while in the Army 1978. Old school analog style 300 watts RMS. Real American made power, no plastic coated fake numbers. This CD player works flawlessly - plays my WAVE file compilations just fine & my stereo hasn't sounded so good since Led Zep on vinyl (remember THAT format ?)

Pros: Great price. Very reasonable. Simple machinery should hold up and have some longevity, just like my Amp & preAmp from 1978.

Cons: Haven't found any yet. FF & RW buttons could be a bit larger (boo hoo, buy some better glasses)

Quality product and retailer

Written by: Smith from Plano, TX on November 6, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As the owner of a sizeable CD collection, and having witnessed the slow demise of a Kenwood 5 disc player, which was older than I can remember, I needed a replacement. I liked the description and reviews on the Crutchfield website of the Onkyo C-7030 single disc player, and as I was already using an Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver, I decided to match the brand. The C-7030 is a suprisingly compact yet solid unit, with clean lines, minimalist controls that does exactly what I expected of it; clean and colorful music reproduction, with excellent separation and detail, some of which I had not heard before. These units reside in my study and run through an older set of Infinity SL towers, heavy on the bass, but with again very clean detail. This was my most recent of many purchases from Crutchfield for the simple reason that they provide the best prices, selection and customer service of anyone in the field.

Pros: Quality unit, immediately synched with my Onkyo receiver. The quality of the sound reproduction was well worth the trade off of a multi disc player.

Cons: Trivial lack of a full disc "read" display of all tracks and count down features as noted in other reviews.

The days of the mp3 have come... and passed. Remind me why we decided that lower sound-quality was better? Yes, the file size is smaller. But if you're paying for your music that shouldn't matter (it might but it shouldn't).

Pros: Excellent sound reproduction without having to spend thousands.

Cons: I'm sure it could be better, but is it worth the extra thousands of dollars?

The Benefits of going Old School

Written by: RichH from River Falls, WI on July 20, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the first single disc CD player I have purchased since the late 1980's. During the years in-between I've had a couple different multi-disc players, though for most of the last ten years I've been using a DVD player to play my CDs. I must say I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to make the switch back to a dedicated CD player.

In my setup the Onkyo is hooked up to an old MCS receiver (45w per channel) driving Bose 201 Series V speakers. The Onkyo sounds very clean. Cds (mostly pop and rock) play very well with the unit having no problems tracking even slightly misused older discs. I don't play MP3 discs very often, but I have a couple I like to use in random play mode and the Onkyo plays them well. (So well I'm going to make a new one with only higher quality MP3s to enjoy the good sounds.)

The unit itself looks very nice. The buttons and disc drawer feel solid and operate smoothly. I'd rate the build quality as excellent. The player has all of the features I look for in a player (program mode, random mode, etc.) The response times are good. (That was my biggest beef with using DVD players, which were uniformly slow in my experience.) The unit also features a display with three different "dimmer" settings for the display, which is large enough to read from 10-12 feet away.

I would rate the Onkyo as a perfect fit for a workhorse audio setup. I'm not sure the sound can be beat for the price.

Pros: Solid Build Clean Sound Good Basic Features Quick Response

Cons: The remote is larger than I like. (A very minor quibble.)

This player has clean and crisp sound. Easy to use. Very good value! Very satisfied with this product. It didn't get 5 stars because of 1 missing feature. It doesn't tell you how many tracks are on the cd. Otherwise, I highly recommend this cd player and have done so to a good friend.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been pleased with the performance of this CD player. Of particular interest was the ability of the unit to play a data disc of directories of MP3's with 100+ songs, tiltes displayed, a Cd I had used to backup songs on my computer. They played as clearly and easily as any burned mix disc I had ever made, or any pre-recorded commercial one. It seems to be a good quality unit for the price. I recommend.

Pros: Good value. Simple, basic, but accurate.

Cons: I would like to have seen the fast forward on the unit itself, not just on the remote.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered this for my brother who is no audiophile but appreciates good sound. I thought this single disc changer was the best unit for the price. Decent specs. Price was right. Simple and straightforward. I tried this out for a month hooked up to the amp and (Polk) speakers I got for my brother. Purchased a high end patch chord between amp and CD player. Everything sounded great. Easy to use. Seems almost rugged.

Pros: Nice unit for a nice price

Cons: none so far

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

crutchfield had a nice price on this and the reviews were stellar. I had been using multi purpose dvd players for my cd's which were ok, but given the reviews and price I took a chance. wow! I don't have golden ears as some claim too, but I definitely hear a difference. the music is clearer, more detailed and seems fuller. I listened to days of future passed, moody blues, and the beatles LOVE, and was impressed. my imagination? maybe, but I don/t think so. I highly recommend this, while they are still making them. my first onkyo product and I am impressed. I have the cd mated to a denon 1913 with definitive tech pro 800 monitors and sub, just sweet!

Pros: great sound, good price.

Cons: none

Music to my Ears

Written by: ER from Harrisonburg, VA on May 18, 2013

Purchased in April 2013; very pleased. Wanted a dedicated CD player for a stereo. Wasn't looking for 5.1 or 7.1, just 2 channel music. This unit delivers! Have it matched to an Onkyo TX-8050 receiver and oldie/but goodie Infinity Reference floor speakers. My wife thinks I'm having a mid-life crisis; perhaps she's correct. All I know is I have rediscovered my appreciation for clean-sounding music! Thanks Crutchfield; thanks also to B. Early at C'field for his assistance. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to rattle the windows...

Pros: Clean looking, solid unit. Excellent sound quality.

Cons: None.

Purchased to replace an outdated receiver for use in a bedroom. Exactly what I wanted with all the functionality of classic receiver (phono, CD, etc.) and usb port on front for iPod. Virtually silent (no humming sound, unlike the unit it replaced).

Pros: Affordable, quiet, full functionality including phono, iPod ready.

Cons: Web radio functions require ethernet cable.

great for the money

I have had this cd player for a week , hooked it to the onkyo A 9050 integrated amp witch i purchased from crutchfield , although the first amp was defective the 2nd unit they sent was fine , i am very pleased with this cd player and it is a great match for the amp , first thing i noticed when i pulled it from the box was how heavy it is for such an inexpensive component , build quality is solid an its very quiet when playing cds , i like having a dedicated cd player rathing than using a multi purpose device. as far as i can tell it sounds just as good as any other cd player ive owned in the past if not better , and ive owned some expensive ones , overall id say this is a steal for the money and looks and preforms more like a $500 cd player.

Pros: Good sound & build

Cons: nothing gold plated on rear panel , but thats to be expected at this price point

Onkyo C-7030

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The largest difference between single disc CD players is their cost ... and this one has a great price point. I know that nearly all single CD players have the same transport system, by Toshiba, and that the only real difference between these box's is the DAC and build quality. This Onkyo unit uses a Wolfson 24bit/192 kHz DAC and quite honestly that is about as good as it gets, or needs to be.

This CD player, like all modern CD players is completely void of jitter. It spins true and sounds to be in perfect time consistently. I am extremely pleased with the sonic capability of the player. Highs are crisp, mid range is honest and full and the lows at volume will make you vibrate. As well this unit is virtually silent, I've never heard it make a sound, and it's extremely well made. One of the most insightful specs of a CD player is how much it weighs ... this one tilts the scales at over 11 pounds. The unit is substantial and I dare to say has a build quality as good as any CD player at any price.

If you must spend $1200.00 dollars on a CD player I highly recommend that you buy this one for $200.00 and send the other $1000.00 to me ... this way we will both be happy.

Highly recommended and perhaps the best audio value currently on the market.

Pros: Great price, quality and sound!

Cons: None

onkyo c-7030 cd player

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently called crutchfield to place an order for a amplifier, turntable, and maybe a cd player. The cd player i had in mind cost approx $600. My advisor (Dallas) mentioned the Onkyo c-7030 was receiving good reviews, so i ordered one for $200. After connecting this unit to my new amplifier I played a wide sprectum of music, classical (heavy on the piano), big band, and vocals. The music sounded great . Unless you have super sensitive ears you will not find a better machine for the price. There is an old rule in audio sound - you can spend so much to get a really great sound, than spend 3, 4, 5, times more for slight improvements.

Pros: Simple straigh forward cd player. Just hit the play button and enjoy the great sound.

Cons: None

Features

Disc Compatibility: The Onkyo C-7030 single-disc CD player will play Audio CDs and CD-R/CD-RW discs (12cm/8cm). It will also supports playback of MP3 (32-320kbps; 32/44.1/48 kHz) and WMA (32-192kbps; 32/44.1/48kHz) files recorded onto CD-R/RW discs in ISO9660 Level 2. The CD player can recognize up to 99 folders and up to 499 files per MP3/WMA disc.

VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry): In conventional digital-to-analog conversion methods, it's impossible to completely remove noise. This noise taints the analog signal and ultimately degrades the sound emitted from your speakers. With Onkyo's VLSC, though, data is continuously sampled between two discrete points (via a signal comparison generator) and the difference is joined with analog vectors in real time to produce a smooth output waveform. The VLSC digital-to-analog conversion method results in an accurate, virtually pulse noise-free audio signal that faithfully reproduces the acoustic detail and subtle nuances of all your audio sources, and breathes life into digital media.

Wolfson 24-bit/192kHz DAC: A high-quality Wolfson digital-to-analog converter works to optimize audio performance of the C-7030. This DAC performs advanced 24-bit signal processing and supports sampling rates of up to 192 kHz, while displaying high resistance to clock jitter. With this advanced onboard DAC, the C-7030 delivers a pristine conversion of digital signals into analog audio output.

Precision Clock (+/-10ppm):  The C-7030 boasts a precise clocking mechanism that controls and coordinates the timing of all digital signal processes (like how a conductor directs and coordinates the individual instruments of an orchestra). The C-7030 uses a state-of-the-art crystal oscillator that achieves a frequency deviation of ±10 ppm, much lower than with a conventional oscillator.

Custom-Designed Massive EI Transformer: Powering the CD Player, is a massive, custom-built transformer that provides a clean and stable power supply.

High-Rigidity, Anti-Resonant Chassis: Build quality of the Onkyo C-7030 starts from the ground up with a highly rigid, 1.6mm thick, fully flat chassis and solid aluminum front-panel that provides excellent protection against shelf-borne vibrations.

Front-Panel LCD: The Onkyo C-7030 features a front-panel LCD which can display the following disc information - Time Elapsed/Remaining, File/Folder Name, Song Title, Artist Name, Album Name, and Sampling-/Bit-rate. You can adjust the brightness of the display from Normal, Dim, Dimmer.

Controls

Remote Control: The Onkyo C-7030 single-disc CD player includes an IR remote control for wireless operation. There are also basic playback controls located on the player's front-panel.

Direct Track Access: The numeric keypad (0-9, >10) of the remote control can be used to directly access a track or file on a disc.

File/Folder Mode: During MP3/WMA playback, you can choose to search for files (songs) within a folder or on an entire disc.

25-Track Memory Playback: You can create a playlist of up to 25 tracks/files per disc.

Random Playback: In Random playback mode, all of the files on a disc are played back in random order.

Repeat Playback: In Repeat playback mode, you can playback an entire disc repeatedly, play one track/file repeatedly, combine it with memory playback to play a playlist repeatedly, or combine it with random playback to play all tracks on a disc in random order repeatedly.

Auto Standby Function: If the CD player is left stopped for approximately 30 minutes, the power will automatically turn off, placing the unit in Standby mode. If playback is simply pause, the power will remain on even after 30 minutes have elapsed.

Connections

Analog Audio Output: The Onkyo C-7030 single-disc CD player is fitted with a set of stereo RCA analog audio outputs to connect to your home receiver.

Digital Audio Outputs: The Onkyo C-7030 features two digital audio outputs; one optical (toslink) and one coaxial (RCA). The player's digital outputs support 16-bit/44.1kHz PCM (2ch).

1/4" Headphone Jack: The Onkyo CD Player features its own built-in headphone amp with a front-panel 1/4" headphone jack and independent volume control. Connecting a set of headphones to the front-panel 1/4" jack does not mute the player's audio outputs (you will need to turn down the volume on your receiver).

RI (Remote Interactive) Terminal: The C-7030 provides two RI inputs (3.5mm) which can be connected to other RI-compatible Onkyo components. With RI (Remote Interactive) you can control the C-7030 together with your other RI-compatible Onkyo AV components from one remote control.

  • Direct Change: If the C-7030 CD player is connected to an RI-compatible Onkyo receiver, when you start playback on the C-7030, the Onkyo receiver will automatically select the C-7030 as the input source.
  • Remote Control Operation: You can control playback operation of the C-7030 by using your Onkyo receiver's remote control.

Customer Q&A

Crutchfield asked
Why did you buy this?

The reviews seemed good, on the whole. I only want a single disc changer. And I may well need simple-minded tech support, and Crutchfield seems to offer that. [ Catherine  Dec 29, 2015 ]
very good reviews. [ jeffery  Dec 23, 2015 ]
The audio quality is superb without a high cost. Runs flawless, and easy to read display perfect for both light and dark lighting [ BRUCE E  Dec 18, 2015 ]

Great product at a fantastic price. [ mitchell  Dec 16, 2015 ]
Onkyo has always been a great product, [ Robert  Dec 14, 2015 ]
Reviews were favorable according to my component setup, and Onkyo receiver....Any ideas on how to make the AM/FM work on my Onkyo receiver??? This function has never worked. [ Laura K.  Dec 11, 2015 ]
I ALREADY OWN ONE AND I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THE UNIT. THE NEW ONE IS FOR A SECOND SYSTEM ON ANOTHER FLOOR OF OUR HOUSE. [ FRED STEVEN  Dec 09, 2015 ]

Great player for the price....remote works well for me....never had a problem with It ..have fun! [ FRANK  Dec 28, 2015 ]
I don't know how the NAD compares to the Onkyo, ubt I can tell you 1) I am quite happy with this product. It plays CD's with crystal clarity. A reasonably priced CD player which (to my ears) achieves high priced performance. 2) I don't think angle remote works on this one either, but can't say definitively. In general a 30 degree side position works with remotes, but more than that is sketchy. [ GREGG  Dec 28, 2015 ]
I've had the Onkyo C7030 since 2/2014 and use it frequently. I've had no problem with it. I don't need to maintain line of sight in order for the remote to work. [ MICHAEL J  Dec 26, 2015 ]
I have been very happy with the Onkyo single CD player. Solid and has built in DAC. I added this to my vintage Onkyo stack used mainly for vinyl but I have a large CD collection. Just played the new David Gilmour CD yesterday. I've had no issues with this player and would buy again. CW [ JOHN CRAIG  Dec 26, 2015 ]
I purchased the Onkyo at the beginning of 2014. I haven't had any problems with it yet. It has gotten a lot of use. I had a older Sony that died. This Onkyo blows it away, sounds so much better. I don't think you can go wrong with the Onkyo. [ steve  Dec 26, 2015 ]
I have not heard any of the NAD CD players and thus cannot compare them directly to the Onkyo. But I can report that I returned the Onkyo because of unsatisfactory sound quality. Most of my listening is classical, and strings, for example, sounded course and gritty. I exchanged it for a Yamaha S-300. Sound is much better than the Onkyo. The remote does not seem to be sensitive to angle. In some ways it's a little clunky; the remote would be more ergonomic if the track buttons were isolated from the others. The player has no standby mode. That's not a criticism, just a description. Out of curiosity I check for upgrade candidates periodically, but I think a noticeably better player would cost at least $500. The Yamaha is very good in both sound and build quality. [ ROLAND  Dec 26, 2015 ]
We've been very happy with the Onkyo but with fairly limited use as it's for a second home. We don't use the remote so I can't comment on that but the function and sound quality have been excellent. We also have a different system at our primary home with a more expensive Rotel that is now 14 years old and starting to act up and I've decided I'll replace it with the Onkyo so we are very pleased. [ ROBERT  Dec 26, 2015 ]
This unit performs nicely. The remote seems to work from an angle. I am pleased with it. This was also a replacement for a cd changer. [ STEVEN  Dec 26, 2015 ]
This product is a breeze to program. If you have any trouble just call Crutchfield. They are the greatest and nicest people around! I havent had any trouble with anything i have bought from them. Talk about fast shipping you cant get any better!!! You cant go wrong with this cd player. Highly recommend this product and all products Crutchfield sales. Special shoot out to copper. Once again thanks. Randy [ RANDY  Dec 03, 2014 ]
Not sure about the programmability, but the NAD sounds so much better! I exchanged the Onkyo for the NAD. I thought it was harsh sounding. The NAD beats it hands down! [ GLENN  Dec 03, 2014 ]
I have never programed this unit, I wanted to write to you though to caution you that there is no dedicated port for a sub woofer. You will loose your B speakers (if sub has no outs) to hook up a sub. We have a TV in our bedroom and we hooked up book-shelf speakers and a sub, (all to this unit) the sound is really good for music and movie play back. Sorry I could not help with the programing however I can't imagine it being all that difficult. [ WILLIAM T  Dec 03, 2014 ]
False, the double arrow seek buttons on the player fast forward and reverse when you press and hold. [ BRUCE E  Mar 09, 2014 ]
No, it is not true. There is one set of forward and reverse buttons. Press the relevant button to move forward or backward a single track. Hold it down to fast forward or reverse. [ Thomas  Mar 08, 2014 ]
Yes Onkyo C-7030 will fast-forward with the face button. If you depress the once it goes to the next selection, but if held depressed it is fast-forward. This is pretty much industry standard. [ PHIL.  Mar 07, 2014 ]
you can control all functions from the unit you can forward and reverse without the remote hope this helps. [ ALAN  Mar 07, 2014 ]
Yes, this the case. I was surprised by this omission in design, but ultimately it has not caused me any inconvenience. I am very happy with the unit. [ RAYMOND M  Mar 07, 2014 ]
This is true it will go to the next chapter only. [ ROBERT  Mar 07, 2014 ]
yes, as far as I can tell. but don't fast forward, everything sounds good on this player, you don't want to miss anything....... [ JOSEPH A  Mar 07, 2014 ]
Unfortunately I believe that is true. [ COLIN Y  Mar 07, 2014 ]
You can go from track to track using front panel buttons. I have never used the remote on theis unit. [ STEVEN R  Mar 07, 2014 ]
Not at all. Works fine from the unit and the remote. [ RICHARD  Mar 07, 2014 ]
not true; just push and hold previous or next track buttons to fast-reverse or fast-forward during playback. [ mark  Mar 07, 2014 ]
