Take your music listening to the next level
From its sleek brushed-aluminum front panel to its sophisticated audio circuitry, Onkyo's C-7070 is one class act. Based on their decades of experience and know-how, Onkyo designed the C-7070 from the ground up to give you exceptional sound from your CD collection. This versatile player even lets you plug in an iPod, iPhone, iPad® or USB thumb drive to enjoy the best possible sound from your portable music library.
Heavy-duty construction for crystal-clear sound
You'll immediately notice the C-7070's solid feel and refined looks, enhanced by its heavy metal chassis. The player's die-cast aluminum disc tray combats resonance, and employs Onkyo's silent disc mechanism for super-smooth and quiet operation. Add machined brass feet plus a floating circuit board design, and the result is a player that's fully equipped to conquer the performance-robbing effects of vibration.
The C-7070's twin Wolfson WM8742 DACs (one for each channel) run in a dual-differential configuration, ensuring high-accuracy digital-to-analog conversion and rejecting noise to provide stunningly lifelike music reproduction. Onkyo's DIDRC (Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry) and precision clock mechanism dramatically reduce distortion and timing errors, commonly referred to as "jitter," for highly involving sound that will get your toes tapping.
Plays your CDs and powers your headphones
The C-7070 will play standard audio CDs as well as MP3 and WMA CDs and CD-Rs/RWs. And you can plug your favorite headphones directly into the front-panel jack without the need for a separate amp or receiver. Onkyo C-7070 Reviews
Average Customer Review:
STUNNING CD PLAYBACK PARALLELING VINYL LP QUALITIES
In a word, commercial Redbook CD playback on the Onkyo C-7070 is "stunning". Using both Axiom M80 tower speakers and Sennheiser HD 448 headphones, rock, pop, show tune, and instrumental selections are clear, accurate and very musical. Playback using "direct" setting parallels warmth of my first love, vinyl LPs, which allows me to hear the music as the artist and recording engineer intended. [NOTE: This CD player is connected to the Onkyo A-9070 integrated amplifier, representing the component set-up recommended by the manufacturer. Connection by coaxial optic cable guarantees 75 ohm matching.] The C-7070 produces sound and detail I never before heard on standard CDs played previously dozens of times on vintage Technics, Sony, and recent Yamaha and TEAC equipment. Teaming of the A-9070 and C-7070 represents the finest home digital music listening experience of my life. Both the fascia panel and remote control are easy to read, intuitive, and simple to operate. The C-7070 build is a throwback to old school durability with modern design elegance.
Pros: Clear, accurate and very musical; USB port plays WMA files and is NOT confined to Apple/I-POD construct. Heavy duty build; Intuitive controls; Whisper quiet transport. Digital status display is clear and large, with 3 brightness settings. Teamed with Onkyo A-9070 amplifier, RCA connected analog, coaxial, or TOSLINK all produce breathtaking CD results -- even for "first generation" commercial discs!
Cons: If you have been prone to abusing your CDs, resulting in scratches, mars, unidentified sticky substances, and smudges on the playing surface, this unit may not be your best choice. For me, I have little problem with the C-7070's penchant for cleanliness. Based on the C-7070 Instruction Manual warnings and my experience in playing some previously owned CDs, be forewarned that the unit may balk at errant particles on the shiny surface.
Better than the CD 7030
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
The C- 7070 was an improvement over my CD7030 on the top end of the music, it opened up well with little if any distortion but it took some of the base away which I liked with the C-7030 to me it was no gain on my stereo system, others may have different results, hope so. I sent the C-7070 back to Crutchfield, tried a Marantz CD 6004 played which worked out a lot better in my system. If I had all Onkyo electronics this review may be different, in my system the Marantz CD 6004 give a more life like presentation and cost less. I have never had any trouble with any Onkyo electronics and have had two shelf systems and they both worked great and that is why I tried a C-7070.
Pros: Well built, was quite, mechanically sound, good remote.
Cons: Not as musical in my system as I had hoped.
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
The Onkyo 7070 delivers clear quiet sound to head phones on its own or speakers through an amp. I was amazed at how realistic the voices sound and all the instruments. I played a badly scratched cd on it before I bought a new one and I couldn't tell the difference. Solid unit, well built, and should last a long time. Mine was open box and to me it looked and played like new.
Pros: Solid unit, well built, and delivers as promised.
Cons: none at this time.

Disc Compatibility: The Onkyo C-7070 single-disc CD player will play Audio CDs and CD-R/CD-RW discs (12cm/8cm). It will also supports playback of MP3 (32-320kbps; 32/44.1/48 kHz) and WMA (32-192kbps; 32/44.1/48kHz) files recorded onto CD-R/RW discs in ISO9660 Level 2. The CD player can recognize up to 99 folders and up to 499 files per MP3/WMA disc.
Silent Disc Mechanism w/ Die Cast Tray: Affixed to four supports made of rigid machined brass, the C-7070's CD drive provides excellent resistance to internal vibrations. Furthermore, the disc tray is precision engineered from high-rigidity, die-cast aluminum. Thanks to these advanced design features, the disc mechanism offers smooth and silent operation.
High-Rigidity, Anti-Resonant Chassis: Build quality of the Onkyo C-7070 starts from the ground up with a highly rigid, 1.6mm thick, fully flat chassis and solid aluminum front-panel that provides excellent protection against shelf-borne vibrations.
Floating Circuit Board Construction: Rather than being directly connected to the chassis, the main circuit board inside the C-7070 is "floating" to protect it from sources of vibration. This method of construction prevents vibration from the chassis and CD drive mechanism from adversely affecting the circuit boards or creating signal interference; which adds up to longer life and cleaner audio.
VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry): In conventional digital-to-analog conversion methods, it's impossible to completely remove noise. This noise taints the analog signal and ultimately degrades the sound emitted from your speakers. With Onkyo's VLSC, though, data is continuously sampled between two discrete points (via a signal comparison generator) and the difference is joined with analog vectors in real time to produce a smooth output waveform. The VLSC digital-to-analog conversion method results in an accurate, virtually pulse noise-free audio signal that faithfully reproduces the acoustic detail and subtle nuances of all your audio sources, and breathes life into digital media.
Dual Wolfson 24-bit/192kHz DACs: High-quality Wolfson digital-to-analog converters work to optimize analog audio performance on the C-7070. The player incorporates two 24-bit/192kHz WM8742 DACs. Although these DACs can process two-channel audio on a single chip, Onkyo employs separate chips for each stereo channel, to ensure the most accurate digital-to-analog conversion.
DIDRC (Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry): Since the advent of digital audio, signal-to-noise ratios have improved dramatically. However, the S/N ratio reflects static noise only, and takes no account of another type of noise that occurs as the byproduct of sound reproduction; dynamic noise. To reduce this type of noise, Onkyo has developed DIDRC technology for use in their hi-fi components. Despite being beyond the normal range of human hearing, frequencies above 100 kHz are susceptible to clock pulse and other forms of distortion from digital devices. Such distortion in the super-high-frequency range can generate "beat interference", which in turn affects the character of the original sound. By improving linearity and reducing distortion in the super-high-frequency range, Onkyo's DIDRC technology effectively reduces perceptible noise and delivers clearer audio.
Precision Clock (+/-10ppm): The C-7070 boasts a precise clocking mechanism that controls and coordinates the timing of all digital signal processes (like how a conductor directs and coordinates the individual instruments of an orchestra). The C-7070 uses a state-of-the-art crystal oscillator that achieves a frequency deviation of ±10 ppm, much lower than with a conventional oscillator.
Custom-Designed Massive EI Transformer: Powering the CD Player, is a massive, custom-built transformer that provides a clean and stable power supply.
Front-Panel LCD: The Onkyo C-7070 features a front-panel LCD which can display the following disc information - Time Elapsed/Remaining, File/Folder Name, Song Title, Artist Name, Album Name, and Sampling-/Bit-rate. You can adjust the brightness of the display from Normal, Dim, Dimmer.
Remote Control: The Onkyo C-7070 single-disc CD player includes an IR remote control for wireless operation of the player and basic playback functions of a connected USB memory device or Apple iPod/iPhone. There are also basic playback controls located on the player's front-panel.
Direct Track Access: The numeric keypad (0-9, >10) of the remote control can be used to directly access a track or file on a disc.
File/Folder Mode: During MP3/WMA playback, you can choose to search for files (songs) within a folder or on an entire disc.
25-Track Memory Playback: You can create a playlist of up to 25 tracks/files per disc.
Random Playback: In Random playback mode, all of the files on a disc are played back in random order.
Repeat Playback: In Repeat playback mode, you can playback an entire disc repeatedly, play one track/file repeatedly, combine it with memory playback to play a playlist repeatedly, or combine it with random playback to play all tracks on a disc in random order repeatedly.
Audio Filter: You can select what type of digital filter is applied to the PCM data prior to D/A conversion for analog input output; this will switch the response inside and outside the audible bandwidth. You can choose from Standard (uncolored sound with good overall balance) or Soft (Mellow attack with richer resonance).
Auto Standby Function: If the CD player is left stopped for approximately 30 minutes, the power will automatically turn off, placing the unit in Standby mode. If playback is simply pause, the power will remain on even after 30 minutes have elapsed.
Analog Audio Output: The Onkyo C-7070 single-disc CD player is fitted with a set of stereo RCA analog audio outputs to connect to your home receiver.
Digital Audio Outputs: The Onkyo C-7070 features two digital audio outputs; one optical (toslink) and one coaxial (RCA). The player's digital outputs support 16-bit/44.1kHz PCM (2ch).
1/4" Headphone Jack: The Onkyo CD Player features its own built-in headphone amp with a front-panel 1/4" headphone jack and independent volume control. Connecting a set of headphones to the front-panel 1/4" jack does not mute the player's audio outputs (you will need to turn down the volume on your receiver).
USB Port (iPod compatible): The unit's front-panel USB (type-A) port allows you to connect a USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) compliant device; such as your Android smartphone, portable digital audio player, or USB thumbdrive. Your USB MSC device must be formatted in FAT16/FAT32 and contain MP3 (8-320kbps), WMA (5-384kbps), or AAC (8-320kbps) music files; the unit will recognize up to 499 folders and 499 filers per folder. You can also use the unit's front-panel USB (type-A) port to connect your Apple iPod/iPhone. Simply connect your iPod/iPhone to the unit's front-panel USB port via the cable that comes with your Apple device. The USB port enables audio playback & control of audio files stored on portable USB memory device or Apple iPod/iPhone.
