Onkyo is known for making excellent home theater receivers. But some people prefer a simpler, cleaner setup in their main TV room rather than the receiver-and-speakers approach. That's why Onkyo designed their first sound bar, the LS-B50. Its built-in six-channel amplifier and eight drivers reinvigorate TV shows, movies, and music — in bold, clear stereo or stunning virtual surround sound. The wireless subwoofer fills in those low frequencies that have been missing and presumed non-existent. Together, they'll make you wonder how you ever tolerated those wimpy little TV speakers.
Onkyo's AuraSphere technology digitally optimizes the bar's drivers to create a lifelike 3D effect with a large "sweet spot." That means dynamic, realistic sound won't be restricted to the person sitting front and center. Plus, there are three sound modes designed for different content. "Movie" mode delivers plenty of deep bass through the subwoofer for explosive sound effects, while making sure dialogue remains clear. "News" is perfect for dialogue-heavy TV watching, where soundtrack music and other effects aren't a priority. And "Music" mode digitally adjusts frequencies in the audio signal for well-balanced stereo sound when cranking up your favorite tunes.
The LS-B50's eight front- and side-panel drivers will take your TV's sound to new heights in stereo or virtual surround sound.
The LS-B50 offers several options to get your music playing. Connect your disc player to the coaxial digital input. Or you can use your smartphone or computer to stream music wirelessly over Bluetooth to listen to your digital music collection. Or stream tunes from music services like Spotify®, Pandora®, and SiriusXM. There's a USB port for playing digital music stored on a flash memory device like a USB thumb drive, easily controlled with the included remote.
The beauty of sound bars lies in their easy setup and operation. The LS-B50 is a cinch to get up and running. Place the bar on your TV stand or wall-mount it with the included kit. You can run a single optical cable (also included) from your TV into the bar. Place the wireless subwoofer anywhere you like in the room — no wires means fewer restrictions. Plug both the subwoofer and bar into a power protection device and you're ready to rock. The bar even comes pre-programmed to work with remotes for most major brands of TVs.
Add big sound to your TV without a roomful of speakers. Sound bars require minimal space and wiring, and their sleek designs complement today's flat-panel TVs. Most sound bars have their own built-in amplification, so you won't need to use a home theater receiver. Some models use advanced surround processing and carefully aimed speaker drivers to simulate the effects of a full home theater audio system.
I bought the last one. The bass is powerful but the dialogue is muddled at times. I might have to rethink soundbars as this unit is definatly weak link in system. I have it as part of a Sony 4K and Sony Blue Ray system. Maybe it is a compatibility issue.
Pros: Crutchfield's fast service and good pricing.
Cons: Doesn't seem like all bugs are worked out. Considering another soundbar.
Would be 5 stars, but I had tho call tech support to figure out how to reset the speaker. Works great, great bass, great sound quality, love the bluetooth. It stopped working one day and would not power on. Was advised to hold the power button down for 30 seconds, system rest and haven't had another problem. It does shut off if you pause the tv for several minutes, which aggravates the wife at times. Synched to my tv and no problem using the speaker instead of the tv speaker. Overall I am truly happy and think it is a top notch system for its price point.
Pros: Easy to use Sounds great
Cons: Powers off when the tv is paused
Setup was fast right out of the box. Could have been faster if it mentioned in the directions to take the protective caps off of the ir cable. It's my first surround sound home theater speaker so I don't have anything to compare it to but couldn't be happier.
Pros: Fast setup - plug play Great sound both music and movie use Bluetooth connection is strong and has great range
Cons: My only complaint is the remote. So tiny I know it's going to get lost
it is good for the money..
Sound bar arrived well packaged and on time. Was extremely easy to set up and performs as advertised. Love the auto on feature when the optical input senses audio output from the tv. No problems working with TV remote. The included remote has a sub level adjustment that is great for late nights when watching movies.
Pros: Easy set up. Sub level and sound mode control on included remote.
Cons: A HMDI input and output would have made this perfect for multiple source systems.
An excellent product. We recently moved into a new home with a great room, cathedral ceiling, open concept, etc. Running wires for my surround system wasn't an option here; as with most people who go to a sound stand/sound bar system, we were interested in something that looked great as well as sounds great. Started with tv-stands (Samsung 55" LED). Tried the Bose Solo, not happy (no bass), tried the Onkyo LS-T10 as it had a built-in powered sub (the tv stand version of Onkyos Cinemate line), and liked the sound way better, plus loved the Bluetooth feature. Decided to mount the tv on the wall and go to a soundbar on the wall also, this was the natural option. Sound clarity is excellent, subwoofer delivers lots of punch, front-and-side-firing speakers on the bar fill the entire open area (great room, kitchen and dining area) with sound. Not a surround system, and you know going in with a soundbar and giving up speakers behind you that you will not hear the bullets richocheting behind you. but, especially for the price, the Onkyo Cinemate line effortlessly fills the room with quality sound. Have watched Blu-Ray dvd's that we previously watched on the full surround system, and the non-surround is noticeable, but the performance of the Onkyo units, particularly for the price, is awesome. Also love the auto-on and off feature and that it responds to the Samsung and the cable box remotes (haven't even bothered to re-program the universal remote)
Pros: Sound quality, wireless sub, bluetooth, automatically turns on when tv turns on and goes off when no signal detected for 5 minutes, looks very good on the wall under the tv.
Cons: No on-screen display to show settings/levels (can't be done with products like this, where sound comes in from an optical cable, as opposed to having HDMI inputs into the soundbar and a HDMI output to the tv).
Although there were many cheaper models to choose from I purchased the Onkyo as I had recently purchased an Onkyo Amplifier which I was very happy with. My wife and I have been complaning that certain spoken words on certain programs were difficult if not impossible to hear. What I found is that there was little to no improvement with spoken words although music does sound much better. Also I thought it would be nice if there were a chanel on the unit to hide to wires while it is hanging on a wall.
Cons: High cost A USB connection located on the back of the unit so if it is mounted on a wall you can't use it

Active Soundbar + Powered Sub System: The Onkyo LS-B50 Active Soundbar + Powered Sub System offers a simpler alternative to your typical 5.1ch home theater speaker system. Not every room can accommodate five speakers and a subwoofer; and not everyone wants to deal with hooking up rear surround speakers. The Onkyo LS-B50 is a two-piece home theater system with an amplified soundbar speaker that connects directly to your TV, Blu-ray/DVD player, or Satellite/Cable box; plus a wireless powered subwoofer that can be placed anywhere in your room. The Onkyo LS-B50 Active Soundbar + Powered Sub System adds virtual surround sound to your music or movies thanks to AuraSphere DSP (Digital Signal Processing) technology.
Dolby Digital Decoding: Dolby Digital is a high quality audio format commonly encoded on DVDs, Blu-ray Discs, and in TV broadcasts. Select TVs can pass Dolby Digital audio from there built-in ATSC/QAM tuner and network apps through to the LS-B50 for dynamic playback, enhanced even further with AuraSphere DSP technology. You must connect the audio signal of your Blu-ray/DVD player or Satellite/Cable box directly to the soundbar speaker system to receive a Dolby Digital signal. If you route the audio signal of your Blu-ray/DVD player or Satellite/Cable box through the TV first, it will come out as PCM (2ch) at the TV's digital output; the AuraSphere DSP technology will create a virtual surround sound effect either way.
Panoramic 3D Sound w/ AuraSphere DSP: The LS-B50 is powered by AuraSphere DSP (Digital Signal Processing) technology. It works by optimizing driver output to create a 3D surround effect from stereo sources. Unlike other DSP technologies, AuraSphere expands the sweet spot (the area in front of the TV where audio sounds best) to create a 3D soundfield that places the listener in the center of the action, wherever they're sitting. The LS-B50 offers three pre-programmed AuraSphere sound modes.
Analog + Digital Inputs: The Onkyo LS-B50 is fitted with both analog and digital inputs to connect your external AV components. There is one optical (toslink) and one coaxial (RCA) digital input to connect up to two digital audio sources, such as your flat-panel HDTV and Blu-ray player. The digital inputs will accept PCM (2ch) or Dolby Digital (5.1ch) audio signals. There is also one analog audio minijack (3.5mm) input for connecting a portable MP3 player with a headphone jack output or a TV without a digital output.
USB Port: The Onkyo LS-B50 features a USB (type-A) port which allows you to connect a compatible USB mass storage class device; such as select Android smartphones (Gingerbread/Froyo OS only), digital audio players, or USB thumbdrives. The unit will support music playback and basic control (play/pause & previous/next track) of MP3 music files (8-320kbps; 8-48kHz) stored on a compatible USB msc device formatted in FAT 12/16/32. The speaker's USB port will also charge your USB-enabled device while connected.
Note: The USB port is not compatible with the Apple iPod, iPhone, or iPad.
Bluetooth Audio Streaming: Pair your smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer to the LS-B50 and stream music wirelessly via built-in Bluetooth (ver.2.1+EDR) technology. You'll be able to wirelessly stream stored music and music apps on your Bluetooth-enabled devices to the LS-B50. You'll still use your Bluetooth-enabled mobile device for music navigation and song/artist information. Pairing is done with the press of a single button.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Onkyo system.
Remote Control: The LS-B50 features top-panel controls on the soundbar speaker and includes a wireless IR remote for operation of the system's power, volume, input source, sound mode, and USB playback controls. It also comes preprogrammed with IR codes for a variety of major TV brands (and learning capability for others), which means it switches on automatically with your television and responds to your TV remote volume commands. The included IR flasher makes controlling the LS-B50 simple no matter where it's placed.
Note: The LS-B50 is preprogrammed with IR codes for nine major TV brands; including Funai, LG, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Toshiba, and Vizio, with learning capability for other TV brands.
Mounting Options: The LS-B50's low-profile design makes it ideal for displaying on an entertainment unit or TV stand. Four self-adhesive rubber feet protect your furniture and keeps the speaker from moving. The unit's flat back-panel and shallow depth allow for easy wall mounting as well. There are two keyhole slots on the back of the speaker that are spaced 20.25" apart (mounting hardware not included). Because the system's powered subwoofer is wireless, you can position it any where in the room (within 25').
Auto Standby: The system automatically turns on when an audio signal is output from your TV. The system automatically enters standby mode if there is no operation and no sound for approximately five minutes.
