And for easy touchscreen control, Onkyo's free remote app for Apple® and Android™ lets you control the TX-NR727 from your smartphone or tablet.
Good quality. Connection was relatively simple.
Good quality. Connection was relatively simple.
The receiver has great sound and it is easy to connect all components
Pros: Great sound
Cons: Source 2 is difficult to use for my outdoor speakers. The volume does not display when using the remote.
Easy to set up. Easy controls. Is better than our 7-8 year old denon. Crisp, clear. Happy with it.
Pros: Easy setup
Cons: None so far
I haven't gotten all of my speakers yet, but the 3 that I did connect to it sounded fabulous. I can only imagine the sound once I receive the other 4. I only did a trial run with the speakers, but I didn't place them in their final destinations. I will update my review if the site allows.
Pros: Huge power and sound in every watt
First off amazing company and customer service. One of the few companies in the world that still truly care how their customers feel about the business and their product. This product is amazing. Puts out some powerful sound and barely had to make any adjustments to the sound after auto setup!! I would recommend this product to anyone!! And this company!!
The initial setup was cumbersome. The unit wouldn't recognize my PS3. The unit wouldn't recognize the MIC input for the Audissy (sp?) set up. The software was lousy. After working for a few hours trying to set this up, I gave up, called Crutchfield, bought a Marantz. The setup on it was so smooth, it was def the right decision.
Very great product! I have always been pleased with onkyo brand home theater, and this is no exception. And for the price, well, I'm super stoked about making this thing rock!
Quality product! Little challenging to set up and I count myself as electronic savvy but not infallible. Made mistake of disconnecting HDMI after powered on while rerouting cables...It messes with the receiver big time and it took me a long time to recover the video output. I am very happy with the features and especially the wifi and BT capabilities. Output is super!
Pros: Sound and function -- top notch
Cons: little sensitive to HDMI connections and disconnects while powered.
Easy to hook up and install. The auto sound balance worked better than other receivers I have programed. Remote was easy to program to control other devices. Plenty of power. Big bang for the buck.
Pros: Has phono connection for those of us who still play vinyl on occasion.
Cons: The easy install guide does not explain how to access the different programming aspects of the remote. I had go to the full manual on the included CD.
Easy setup and flexible speaker options. Was able to take advantage of the Bi-Amp mode.
Pros: Easy setup and more than powerful fro most home environmetns
Cons: Remote buttons are a little spongy
Just received this TX-NR727 and it sounds great! I look at many different manufactures but Onkyo gave the biggest bang for the money on this unit with WiFi, phono connection and the powered 2nd zone and a 3rd zone as well. This meets all my needs. It sounds great and was easier to set up and use in both zones.
Pros: Has many features that other manufacturers do not have at the same price point. Easy set up and use. Works great with Spotify. Has a phono connection. Powered 2nd zone. 3rd zone option. Lots of power! Sounds great!
Cons: None yet.
The sound of this unit blows my old Yamaha out of the water. Powered zone 2 makes listening to my outdoor speakers a whole new experience. The surround sound is much crisper also.
Pros: Powered zone 2. Ease of switching between components.
The onkyo tx-nr727 is an unbelievable receiver. I thought I might have a problem going from the tx-sr806 with more power then the 727 but I was wrong the 727 sounds clearer and louder then the 806 and the built in wifi is awesome. And once again Crutchfields service stands alone!!!
Pros: Clear sound, easy to use
Cons: There isnt any
I love the power (rms) and the new features (Bluetooth and wireless connectivity, and streaming servixes). However I wish it was easier to access the Bluetooth feature. Overall, very good price and pleased with my purchase.
Pros: Bluetooth and wireless
Cons: Access menu
I bought this receiver to replace an old sony receiver. The Onkyo 727 is a great receiver. Lots of power and sounds great. Paired this with Polk Audio blackstone TL 350's. Receiver was extremely easy to set up and has lots of cool features. Crutchfield customer service was also great.
Pros: Easy set up and powerful
I purchased this receiver with Bose 301 front speakers, Bose 201 back speakers, Cambridge Audio Mix sub-woofer and Definitive Technology ProCenter Technology center speaker. The receiver was easy to set up using the electronic manual that came with the disc. The sound is phenomenal for both surround and stereo. I am happy with the results. The technical support team at Crutchfield helped me decided on the sub-woofer and center speaker. Their help was the key to making this a system of which I could be proud. Thanks for the help!
Pros: Ease of set up Sound Quality Channel separation quality
Cons: Electronic manual made it a little more difficult.
I love this new Onkyo. It was the easiest set up on any home theater unit that I have purchased to date. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a really good home theater unit.
Pros: Easy set up and functions as advertised.
I wanted a receiver with BT features. Focused on Denon, Yamaha and Onkyo. SALES staff very helpful. After several questions and reviews of customer feedback went with Onkyo TX-NR727. At this point in time, I am very happy. Only had it just a week.. still learning and playing with all the capabilities that are available.
Pros: Features, easy install, great price, very good support, easy to use, love the bluetooth
Cons: Bluetooth feature cannot be in zone 2/3 alone but is required to be in main source also.
This receiver has lots of inputs for all my coonents: cable box, blu-ray, Apple TV, CD player, phono, cassette player. It has not only a zone 2' but also a zone 3 which I hooked up to desktop so I can digitize my analog collection (records and tapes).
Pros: All my video can output to one HDMI connection. No longer necessary to switch TV inputs Zones 2 and 3 powered output Lots of inputs
Cons: Very confusing and incomplete instruction manual for more advanced features. Had to call Crutchfield support to figure out how to get zone 2 working. Was. Simple fix that was not clear in the manual. Couldn't get my component/optical output from cable box to work. Ended up switching (moving existing wiring) to HDMI for this source. Probably possible to do this but couldn't figure it out from the manual.
Very good receiver so far. Have never owned an Onkyo product before and so far it has been at least as good as some of the Denons I have owned.
Pros: Plenty of Power Easy Setup
Cons: Slight popping noise from surround speakers in one of the surround modes. On everything else it is fine, sounds like a common Onkyo problem.
Great sound quality! It has plenty of power and the auto-eq did a great job with my room. I have this setup in my bedroom with the zone 2 powering speakers in my bathroom. The zone 2 is easy to use. Pretty straight-forward controls.
Pros: Easy setup and operation. Powerful sound with great effects. Easy wifi and Bluetooth pairing and allows pandora to play through the Zone 2.
Cons: Switching inputs and startup time is pretty long in comparison to my older TX-nr808. Sometimes I won't get an image after switching inputs and have to restart the unit. Crutchfield graciously swapped out my first unit when I told them of these problems. I even bought a new Blueray player and Hdmi cable to use with the new unit. I updated the firmware as soon as I got it. It still suffers from the same issues. It really is too bad. Sonically this thing is a beast!
Easy to use, just got it installed
Awesome receiver for the price. Easy setup.
Pros: Easy setup, clarity at high volume, classy design.
Cons: None yet.
The day of waiting was the hardest. But after that thing went up hill, this was my second onkyo and like the first one it was easy to hookup an ready to use.the sound is great, hooking up all my different parts was very easy an they have the little tab to help you remember what goes where.the power is all that i had hope for, movies, games an of course music sound really really really GGoooddd.
Pros: Easy to set up,wide range of sound.I have this for several months now no problem.would tell a close friend to go for it.to be honest i already have.
Cons: Waiting for it to arrive.
This receiver does everything it says it does. Easy set-up. All the power we need. The Crutchfield team we dealt with for service and delivery was excellent. We even went better we purchased a sub and center speaker also. All for a small craft room.
Pros: The front panel controls are foolproof.
This unit has exceeded my expectations. Set up was really easy and the features work flawlessly. I currently have this powering Polk Monitor 70's series II which are very power hungry and this unit hasn't even blinked. I love that I have so many options to listen to music...off a hard drive, bluetooth using my ipod, or connecting on the network to my computers audio files.
Pros: Lots of power Lots of useful features Lots of input options
Cons: The only con I have is that the bluetooth connection option doesn't seem to be integrated very well. It works flawlessly but I actually have to walk up to the unit to push the pairing button as opposed to getting to it through an onscreen menu, yes, I am super lazy.
Have only had receiver a couple of weeks, but impressed so far. Still learning to use its many features/abilities; one I have used is the speaker calibration system and it is fantastic. The Crutchfield Rep., did a fantastic job--if the receiver matches the Crutchfield service, I will be extremely happy.
Pros: So far, great sound, easy to set up even for a novice.
Cons: None thus far.
This unit was easy to setup and sounded good. But the wireless was defective. It wouldn't even pickup any signals even though every other device in my household can easily find over 12. Called Crutchfield sending it back replacing it with a Denon S900W. Hope it works right out of the box.
Pros: Might be a good recievers if it ever worked.
Cons: Defective right out of the box.
Great sound, great price, great service
I am very pleased with onkyo TX-NR727 receiver. Great quality and sound.
Pros: Geat quality and sound.
Works great. Big improvement from where we came from. Highly recommend.
I've had this unit for a few months now. I just now have managed to get around to fully setting it up. I have Polk speakers all around and a Sony powered Sub. My living room isn't that big. I love the sound! It's right on!! Now, everyone will find some features they use more than others. Here are my favorites. 1. The Iphone app!!! I can turn the unit on while laying in bed (wifi function!). Also select what Pandora station I want!!! ROCKS!!!! The app lets you control just about everything on the unit. 2. I set it up to turn on my TV at the time I turn on the receiver (not sure how I did this!). 2. Bluetooth from my phone! Even when I go to my office in the back of the house....if I switch to say my Bose mini via Bluetooth, it will allow my phone to automatically switch devices! No extra work. Turn on the Bose and the Onkyo will stop and the Bose will pickup the audio! BAM! I spoke personally with a rep from Crutch to select a unit, and my rep was SPOT ON with this recommendation. It was well worth the $$$. I don't mess around with audio.
Pros: Sound and Iphone App.
Cons: I use a USB flash drive also. It's take just a few seconds for it to recognize all the music on it.
I purchased this Onkyo for a system in the living room as I had purchased a higher end model several years ago and have been very pleased with it for the mancave. The price and performance of this system can't be beat and it has plenty of punch and a multitude of settings to get the sound you want. The only down side is the fact you have to either view the manual online or print it off. (onkyo needs to change this as it's not being very customer friendly saving a dollar or 2.) The setup of this is easy, the wifi works great and I would recommend this to anyone needing a new unit.
Pros: easy setup, easy to use and great performance/sound.
Cons: no manual provided and it's only online.
Works great with the klipsch RF-82 II. Love the quality it produces.
Pros: Great quality
Very stylish and does give strong output and very easy to set-up.
Pros: The appearance of it is just what I needed in cabinet. I knew the sound was going to be great because we already owned and still use one in another area of the house.
Set up was easy, even without a printed manual. I have this set up with Polk audio speakers and a Polk 10" sub. The 727 replaced a Yamaha 7.2 receiver with only 90w/ch and less features such as Bluetooth and Wireless. I noticed the difference right away. The Onkyo provided a greater sound environment with clarity and detail. I'm very pleased I made the switch.
Pros: Great sound and depth, at a very good price even if I didn't buy it on Cyber Monday.
Cons: Remote lacks in features and not as easy to use as my Yamaha.
Great service, Excellent product
Pros: Features, cost, sound,
I really like the Onkyo TX-NR727 reciever. Everything is working fine and Crutchfield is a great company to work with. This reciever has a very good overall sound with great balance and a silent background. I am very satisfied with this purchase.
Pros: Good sound. Good price. Good features.
Cons: None so far.
The sound it puts out is great! Plenty of hookups available.
Pros: Wasy to set up
Cons: wish it had back lit dials for easier reading
Music had never sounded this good from my Polk speakers. I love this receiver. I have it set up as 7.1 home theater system.
Pros: Great sound quality and great video up conversion from composite video. Works fine with Chromecast. I am powering the chromecast from the front USB port. Works fine with Harmony remote app.
Cons: Cannot play slide shows and videos via DLNA. Just music. Remote is not very user friendly. Having HDMI handshake issues with my Mediasonic TV Tuner.
Replaced a perfectly fine Onkyo HT-R520 from 2003 only because the sale made it irresistible. I don't know what changed in 12 years, but this new Onkyo TX-NR727 sounds noticeably better on the same Onkyo speakers. Its processor finds details in music previously hidden.
Pros: Has 2 sub preamp outputs for my 2 subwoofers. Easy Bluetooth connects to iPod and iPhone songs and controls via remote. Front USB port lets me play my high quality songs directly from thumb drives. Can connect to net for firmware updates and online music services. Ample HDMI inputs. Comes with magical calibration microphone and on screen easy walk through of set up. Doesn't break a sweat. Remote is easiest I've seen to program.
Cons: These are next to insignificant compared to all this receiver does wonderfully but if I have to point out anything: Remote not backlit like previous lower model. No Bluetooth button on remote. Bluetooth is selected by switching device BT to connect.
Purchased the Onkyo TX-NR727 to replace an older Denon.AVR-789 The Onkyo was easy to set up and calibrate. It is being used in 7.1 mode with Orb Audio speakers, including powered sub woofer. The Audessey MultiEQ sound processing is excellent and the Onkyo automatically selects an appropriate processing mode (which can be over-ridden if desired) Sound is notably cleaner than the Denon. As well the receiver makes it convenient to tweak the tone settings, if desired. The availability of a phono input is a plus. The wi-fi connection, part of the initial set up menu, was near effortless and effective. The subsequent 'thank-you' card from Crutchfield was a nice touch.
Pros: Fine sound. Audessey processing is very good. I would recommend the Onkyo TX-NR727.
Cons: The instruction manual is available in pdf via download or on a supplied disk. The "advanced" section of the manual could be more clear in describing how to access the more detailed menus available.
The receiver is solid and the setup was relatively easy. The reason I bought this was for the Internet access to my music and control with my iPhone. Unfortunately that is were the problems are. The receiver drops the connection randomly and the app is flakey and hard to use. You also cannot turn it on with the app. I have to turn it on with my remote and wait for it to get connected and then hopefully the app will find the device. They also need a tablet version of the app.
Pros: Good sound
Cons: Drops network, app functionality
Excellent... i am very satisfied with this product...very easy to operate. the wifi feature i can not get enough of....my speakers never sounded so good. I am hearing sounds with such clarity, when i listen to music or just watching TV., Movies. The bass response is so profound, I was thinking of getting new sub woofer.....not now!!!!!! I use my Onkyo everyday. I discover new features that help me improve my listening experience, it seems like it is daily, there are so many features.
Pros: easy of set up...... auto speaker calibration great feature.... eliminates the guess work
Cons: I wish they would include a paper manual. It would be helpful to have in hand while experiencing and learning all the features! The remote does not have a light feature for night time use. I tend to have the room at very low light levels.
I ordered this unit for my surround sound / music base - based on recommendations from Rocky at Crutchfield. I could not be happier. I am no young pup (10 decades) old and the set up went very smoothly. It took a little time just getting everything connected but it all worked out perfectly. The set up is quite intuitive and really easy to do even though this unit has a lot of really cool options and features. The sound is excellent and I am very glad I went with this unit. Thank you Rocky.
Pros: Easy set up, a lot of features, great sound.
Cons: Knobs to connect speaker wire are hard to turn if you have big hands. This is the reason I could not be a surgeon.
This is the first receiver I have ever bought and I am happy with it.
Pros: It does what I wanted.
Cons: Very trick to figure out how to get the TV and the receiver to communicate. But I would expect that is the same for any receiver.
Great function and power! Amp is very clean with tons of options
Pros: Everything it offers
Cons: Non yes
Pleased with the price, delivery time, and quality of the TX-NR727.
Pros: Quality Product with great flexibility.
Cons: Instruction Manuel is CD only. It is difficult to make complex adjustments without a printed manual in front of you.
I bought this receiver about two weeks ago, I hooked it up and the receiver sounded great but it only lasted 2 days. When I went to turn it on, it would turn on for a few seconds that it would turn off. I sent it back to Crutchfield for a repacement but I have not gotten the exchage receiver yet.
Pros: Had a nice sound.
Cons: Burnt out in 2 days.
The new AV amp is like my old one but with great improvements. The HDMI card failure has been resolved and it does what I want.
I've had this unit up and running for about two weeks now. The TX-NR727 is a whole lot of receiver for a relatively inexpensive price point. In fact, it's $100 cheaper than the Yamaha RXV871 that it replaced. The sound from this Onkyo is far superior to the Yamaha. I watched "the fifth element" on Blu-ray and the sound quality was breath taking in 7.1 surround sound. The difference was night and day in comparison to my previous receiver! My music CD collection also sounds much better with this receiver. If you are Into audiophile music this receiver will not disappoint. I've listened to high resolution SA CDs and Blu-Ray Pure Audio disks in Stereo and 5.1 surround sound using this receiver and again was blown away by how much better they sound on this unit.i've previously used Sony, Onkyo and Yamaha receivers to power my home theater system and the TX-NR727 is easily the best of the bunch.I highly recommend this receiver to anyone looking to upgrade the quality of the sound in their home theater system. I fully expect to be using this receiver for many years to come. By the way-I found the receiver to be quite easy to set up, it probably took me about an hour and a half to connect all of my speakers and equipment and have the whole thing up and running. I've read that some people have had problems with the HDMI board and connections, however, I've experienced none of these problems so far.
Pros: The sound is amazing! Easy to set up. Lots of HDMI connections.
Cons: The remote control is not Backlit.
this 727 are great system hook it up with my bowers 685 and asw 610, men you just cant just believe how this system work',s good sound, detail,,clarity, finess, power its a quality product, buy it and dont miss it very good overall, exellent receiver. good job onkyo, tnx crutchfield.
Pros: clear, powerful,detail,finesse etc........
Excellent sound, max flexibility with 5.1 sound, two additional zones, and inputs/outputs that can accommodate virtually any mix of home electronics gear,
Pros: Number of input/output options. Sound quality Ease of installation
Cons: Zones two and three can play only analog inputs, not digital. Required duplicating connections to get higher quality digital sound from my CD player and also allow it to be used for entertainment in Zones 2 and 3. Unit always turned on with Blu Ray input, although I wanted to have the default to be the Cable TV input. Crutchfield Tech Support did not have a solution. Discovered that receiver returns to the device selected for pass through when receiver is turned off. Set to last.
Excellent medium power receiver. Easy to setup using the on-screen display. Number of inputs/outputs are awesome, including HDMI in and out.
Pros: Powered/Unpowered Zone 2, Unpowered Zone 3. Second HDMI output. Easy to setup with on-screen display.
Cons: Any HDMI input component can not be directed to the powered Zone 2. Component selector button names are terribly small and are not back-lit making it impossible to read without excellent eyesight and a flashlight. (Reason for 4-star rating).
Sound is great. Really great. The usual challenges. Fortunately, this is my second Onkyo in a year (different model) so it was a little easier. But setup can be a challenge. To its credit, Denon does have good phone support. The remote control for both my Denon's has to be the worst control I have ever experienced. Not intuitive. Very small buttons. I was hoping that the application on my phone would work with both Denons. No way. I called support and they confirmed this I also hate using my receiver as the control center. With my Denon which it replaced, I could just turn on the TV and receiver and move around from DVD, TIVO, and Apple TV without messing with the receiver. Again, support told me I was expecting too much. I love the internet radio. The one downside is having to reestablish the connection when the internet hiccups.
Pros: Good sound.
Cons: Challenging to set up with no printed manual. Poor remote control.
This is a good product, it would be a great product if it was a little more user friendly.
Pros: Good Value
Cons: User Manual does not give clear instructions.
Easy set-up and operation, good sound and solid design. For the money, excellent buy.
The HDMI board went out within just over 3 months of purchase. I live 4+ hours away from the nearest service center, and Onkyo expected me to pay for packaging and shipping even though it's covered under warranty. This is the second onkyo receiver I purchased and looking back I had similar issues with the first one regarding switching. Do your research with Onkyo and HDMI.
Pros: Plenty of features
Cons: Bad HDMI technology and bad warranty/customer service.
This replaces an early Onkyo I but that actually caught fire. This has all the bells and whistles you could want. I was nervous giving up my direct connection to Sirus XM for a connection through the internet, but it's worked out fine with very little issues concerning buffering. And plenty of power. If there's a down side, the all the black on black. It's looks super cool but unless the lights are on in the room you'll have some problem seeing the control switches.
Pros: Powerful, easy set up, internet is great.
Cons: Like I said above, black on black is just too dark.
After years of owning Sony receivers I wanted to see what else was available in a quality receiver and I found it in Onkyo. Great sound and lots of power.
Pros: Easy on screen programming.
Cons: Quick start guide only, would love an old time style manual.
I bought one of these 10 years ago and the upgrade is wonderful. So much easier to connect to my Blu-Ray player , Roku and DirecTv units.
Pros: More HDMI
Cons: With my old unit I was able to have 3 front speakers and three in the back. With this one It was front, middle and "high".
This unit is marvelously engineered! I began as a hifi nut in 1958 with mono Marantz tube equipment and have never been without at least hifi stereo ever since. This 7 channel receiver sets up the speaker balancing all by itself. Its 4 ohm speaker capability lets me use my vintage AR speakers and that was a necessary factor in selecting it. It is a big upgrade from a 12 year old 6 channel receiver that had no HDMI at all, and speaker balancing on that was a ticklish totally manual process. Its FM reception is good but its internet capability makes FM unnecessary.
Pros: This unit is All-Pro
Cons: None yet found after a month in use.
Perhaps one of the few AV receivers with a phono port. 0.08 TDH - not too shabby. 110 watts per channel - nice. Excellent subwoofer sound. Ease of setup could be a little easier. Don't understand Zone 1 & 2. What is their function?
Pros: Once the setup process is complete, I am learning to like the system. Seemingly enough RCA input ports. Speaker/room setup works flawlessly with the packaged mic. Love the surround difference between this receiver and the my old JVC. Still learning things about it, eg., the various sound functions (orchestra, etc.) still a mystery. Do they work for all the buttons?
Cons: Setup for other equipment (remote codes) can be challenging and requires some effort and patience. Also, after setting up remote codes for other equipment there is an absence of full remote use which requires use of the OEM remotes for full functionality. Some of the HDMI ports seem sloppy/lose. Perhaps because of streamlining or subtle design look, the micro switches are difficult to see on the base unit. Too bad the NET functions don't show up on the front panel when the TV is off.
I am using this to power 2 Cerwin Vega xls28 towers and a Klipsch sw112 subwoofer. It sounds great.
Pros: Good Sound, easy to use menu
Cons: Would like to see a volume for the sub level
I purchased this product for its multi-zone capability. Excellent product all around. I combined this with the Russound SS-4.2 to drive all of the rooms in my house.
Cons: - Remote does not light up.
PRODUCES HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO
Have had unit for a month. Easy to set up. Easy to use remote. Big improvement over 10 yr old sony.
Pros: Easy to link laptop to tv screen via receiver with hdml. Has multiple zones for speakers.
Cons: Yard to see buttons on front of unit in dim light.
New to this brand; but it looks and is has great sound production. Many feature; some of which I am totally lost to do to my lack of knowledge with todays technology. After a short time; rate it 5 stars.
Pros: So many feature; a lot of which are new to me.
Cons: None as of yet.
The sound this receiver delivers is awesome,Top quality for a reasonable price,Ease of connection and simple user interface ,It provides 110 watts of awesome sound .
Pros: HDMI standby passthrough, Internet READY,Wirelessly stream music from your Bluetooth, on-screen display Passthrough HDMI, 110 Whatts Sound, 7-channel amplifier , multi-channel (Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic) decoding formats IS EXELLENT.
Cons: NO multi-channel preamp outputs FOR CONECTED EQUALIZER
A month owned and I must say it performs brilliantly! The phone app is a little......blah but not worth taking a star off. Easy connections and pretty straight forward. Overall, very pleased. Only wish I would have got 9.2 or 11.2 channels ;)
Pros: Super Easy set up with included mic. Picked up what I wanted to do (my room would only really accommodate 6.1 surround which is why I would have liked additional channels to put into the kitchen but hey! Outstanding non the less
Cons: Ummmmm. None
I have had Onkyo products for the last 20 years, but was without a system for the past 4 years. The equipment I had In the past was outstanding. I had a complete integrated separate system that was just out of this world for sound, then I went to an audio/video receiver because the amplifier I had was not made for a/v. That receiver was a great introduction to the world of surround sound. Because of my past experience with Onkyo, I did not hesitate to buy this new model, the TX-NR727. It provides 110 watts of awesome sound reproduction for music, movie, and television audio. It has plenty of HDMI ports for other devices to plug into, and I love hearing the sounds from the online game I play through it from my computer. It brings the game to life like I never heard it before as the game was made with surround sound audio. Overall, I give the receiver high marks for looks and audio reproduction.
Pros: The sound this receiver delivers is awesome. I would give anything one day to add some really nice speakers to it one day.
Cons: Setting up some of the devices such as adding optical cable to it from my computer or coaxial cable can be a tricky feat to do. It always wants to revert to the HDMI audio source.
Awesome sound quality, design, ports, power, connectivity. Top quality for a reasonable price.
Pros: Big, clean sound. WiFi, AirPlay. Quality product.
Cons: It's a bit big, and like all these systems not an Apple-grade set up ease.
Great product, but just don't think you canhook it up and turn it on, a longer learning curve than I had expected
I purchased this receiver as an upgrade for a Pioneer receiver which I purchased almost twenty years ago at about twice the price of the new Onkyo receiver. The TX-NR727 out-performs my older Pioneer receiver in many ways. The sound is clean and crystal clear, and when the unit is complimented with a powered subwoofer, it packs plenty of punch....enough to rattle your windows. I installed the new receiver in a 20X24 home theatre and media room and it fills it with plenty of awesome sound. The separation among the seven channels is quite impressive. If you are looking to buy an excellent home theatre receiver at a price that will not require you to take out a second mortgage on your home, don't let this one get away from you...buy it now!
Pros: Easy setup. Clean clear sound quality. Relatively small footprint, considering the power within. Automatic speaker and channel-balancing feature with included microphone.
Cons: Have not found any as of yet. I am simply enjoying a great surround-sound experience and I am still experimenting with all the aspects of what this unit can do.
Cannot update firm ware. Spoke to Onkyo tech yesterday and emailed photo of error message. They are working on problem. Like most everyone else, I detest having to print out a manual of around 100 pages. And, the Manual could stand a lot of improving. I have owned three Onkyo receivers and still have the last two. They don't wear out or break. Updating to keep up with current technology. Had my last (and still have) receiver around 15 years. After waiting 15 years to purchase a new receiver I hoped that Onkyo had done something about my biggest gripe. "No, still the same". My receiver is underneath my big screen tv along with other components and of course it does not get much light. I have to get on my knees and use a flash light in order to read the faint, small print on the various control buttons. What a pain. The remote is too small with many tiny buttons. They could take a look at the DirecTV control.
Pros: All in all, still a great receiver. Does a whole lot of stuff that I will never use. Delete the manual pages for those items and the manual is reduced considerably. Easy enough to master. Set up is simple enough. Some things I did not see in the manual (yes, I did read it) but had to find out by experimenting with the remote. Still, would not buy anything else. Tried Sony and Yamaha receivers. They did not live very long. This unit has plenty of power for my JBL L100t3's.
Cons: Manual, remote, problem with update for firmware. Need lighted buttons on receiver or at least glow in the dark, etc.
Ease of connection and simple user interface added to the output quality of audio and video make this receiver worth the money. However, don't plan on connecting your iDevice directly thanks to Apple's AirPlay. Loose the fruit and this gets five stars!
Pros: Easy to connect, easy to use, internal processes produce clear pictures for Netflix and other streaming video
Cons: Cannot connect iPod directly through USB or any other device per Crutchfield tech support.
I LOVE IT THE PRICE IS GOOD
Pros: 7.2 and 4K THE Sound is Out standing A+
Cons: The only thing we fine is you have to press the receiver mode button to make it work
Quality unit. I was between onkyo and Yamaha and the onkyo is as good and solid as always! Definitely recommend.
Pros: The blue tooth audio works well Good power with good not great smart phone app to control unit
Cons: None so far
2nd Onkyo receiver and it is awesome! Great sound, easy to set up, and easy to use. No complaints
Pros: Easy to set up and use
Upgraded from an older 5.1 Onkyo receiver. Great power in my dedicated theater. Tons of sound options & online music choices. Easy to use.
Pros: Plenty of power. Many sound choices. Nice sound for movies and I can choose different effects for each use. Overall great receiver for music & movies in home theater. Great Wifi range.
Cons: Confusing as to best settings to choose for Blu-Ray & DVD playback. Called tech support & received limited help. Technician just read from manual which did not help with my concerns. I was instructed to choose the setting that sounded best to me. Remote needs backlighting. Wish both HDMI outputs allowed for display of menu access at same time.
All around the best receiver I've ever owned. The higher end models from the leading brands just don't carry all these features. I would assume the NR626 NR828 and NR929 are all good choices pending your power needs.
Pros: All the features. Plenty of power. Great Android App
Cons: Some features are not accessible via the remote.
Excellent sound quality and powerful amplifier. Easy to set up.
Pros: Easy set up, superb sound quality and easy to use.
This unit has everything you're looking for, WIFI, networking, internet radio, blutooth, POWER, versatility of 3 zones. Everything performs as intended by the factory. No switching problems, no connectivity problems, no faulty anything. Front high capability is awesome, and has the latest Dolby front high decoding for easy use! easy to operate, even for my wife!
Cons: no front auxiliary analog audio connection, but not a big big deal.
A great receiver for the money, has plenty of connection options including WIFI and Bluetooth with a second Zone. Set up was easy and pretty much straight forward. I am using this unit with Polk Audio RTI series speakers and the system sounds great and is easy to use. Remote would be better if it had backlighting on the buttons and the buttons were spaced a little further apart. Other than the remote this is and exceptional unit.
Pros: Easy on screen set up and easy to use. Great value for all the included functions.
Cons: The remote needs to have backlit buttons and the buttons not so close together.
This receiver has everything I need for my home theater, and more. Easily set up in no time. On screen display makes changing any settings a breeze. Plenty of clean power to drive my surround sound speakers.
Pros: HDMI Pass-through. Bluetooth and WiFi work great. Great sound with plenty of sound decoders. Plenty of connections for all of my components. Audyssey MultEQ® speaker calibration works nice and didn't need any tweaking. On-screen display. Intellivolume great if you have more than 1 sorce.
Cons: None so far
This model as an upgrade to my previous Onkyo receiver. The '727 adds HDMI, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connections; all well implemented in my opinion. In terms of sound, the '727 performs very well: good imaging with surround and stereo sources. Using the included mic and my TV (attached via HDMI), setup was fairly easy to walk through. Afterwards, one can tweak the individual speaker volumes (if necessary) or apply graphic EQ to the individual channels (a feature not available on the '626, Onkyo's step-down model). After running the setup, I found that balance and imaging were great - no tweaking necessary. Later after listening to a variety of sources, I only needed to make minor tweaks to the overall sound. The included remote is basically OK, although the buttons are small and the lettering nearly impossible to read in a dimly-lit room. I don't judge a receiver on its remote. Suffice it to say the remote is serviceable, and I suggest getting a separate programmable remote (if you don't already have one) to control your home theater system. On the video side: no problems passing a 3D Blu-ray signal thru the receiver from my Blu-ray player on to my TV. Everything worked just right. I use an antenna for my TV reception, and pass the audio on to the receiver. Most current TV shows have surround sound, and the '727 sends it to my speakers flawlessly. It should do the same with a cable or sat box. I'm very satisfied with the TX-NR727. As usual, Crutchfield provided exemplary service.
Pros: Great sound, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, network audio sources, flexible input assignments
Cons: Serviceable remote, with small buttons and small print.
I received the Onkyo TX NR727 2 days before Christmas and set it up Christmas Day. The delivery was great and on schedule. So far I like everything about the 727 and watched movies with my family every night and streaming music during the days. Having the option for Bluetooth from my iPad or the online options (Net feature) to stream Sirius, Pandora, or more is terrific. No wires to hookup to do so. I also wanted the 727 for. The multi zone feature since I have speakers outside. While this worked good for zone two, there are some limitations with the inputs for multi-zone use. Example: Bluetooth can not be used in multi zone. Also, zone three seems almost useless since it requires another receiver. I am no expert on this type of equipment, but this seems very silly to need a second receiver...I would not bother linking them. Oh, one other limitation, there is no external port for infrared. It seems most other Onkyos have this, but not the 727. Mine is in a cabinet and would have been nice to have the ability to plug in external infrared extender. In summary...happy so far.
Pros: Great power. Built-in wifi and internet, with music vendors built in (sirius, Pandora, etc). Multi zone speaker ability (3 zones, 2 really). Bluetooth.
Cons: Zone 3 option seems useless since it requires a second receiver. No Bluetooth when using zone 2. No infrared jack for external infrared. Remote control should be illuminated.
I am upgrading from an older Onkyo that did not have any HDMI inputs or output. This receiver fit all of my needs. I went on to purchase a 60" Samsung LED and mounting table from Crutchfield
Pros: Easy to set up and add to my home network
Cons: Like anything new there is a learning curve but I am getting better everyday and the remote is well labled
Fantastic Receiver. Works as promised and all the features are we're on point and easy to use.
Pros: Wifi is great
Cons: None yet
Pros: My previous Onkyo was pre-HDMI. Easy to set up. Fabulous to listen to. Easy to use. Even my wife likes it. :) yeah! Added apple TV. One of the few receivers with a phono input. Went with a front and high front set-up so that when I am playing LP's and I set the receiver to direct, it comes directly out of my paradigm speakers. very happy.
Cons: I suppose but I haven't found them yet
Onkyo has created one OUTSTANDING product! I replaced/upgraded my old Yamaha A/V receiver. This unit has all the modern features needed for today's home theater systems, and those features are executed brilliantly. Setup is very detailed, yet simple and intuitive. Built in Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® both connect easily and work flawlessly. The remote control is solid. The amplifiers are clean & powerful, and they deliver clear, crisp sound. The powered zone 2 option is great for a second room/outdoor listening to & viewing of a different source than the main room. The OSD/GUI is elegant and functional. There are many well-thought-out convenience features such as 'Power-On Volume', 'Auto Lip-Sync', and 'Front-Panel HDMI (MHL) Port' that serve as examples of the contemplative engineering utilized in this receiver's design. And with 4K upscaling, you have built-in compatibility with future technologies. So if you need a great A/V receiver for your home theater system with all the bells & whistles at a reasonable price, go ahead...pull the trigger on the Onkyo TX-NR727 - you will NOT be disappointed!
Pros: Features, build, display, remote control, versatility, engineering, power, sound, networking, price & quality.
Cons: HDMI switching could be faster.
Solid piece of equipment, Upgraded from a slightly older model that had no built in wifi A couple of incomplete functionality items. 1.using bluetooth and apple i phone or ipad for music, no display on the tv screen, 2. no way to engage bluetooth from the remote control, 3. having some problems with capturing listening mode while in cable /sat function.
Pros: well built, solid unit with lots of functionality
Cons: I think Onkyo took some shortcuts on certain functionality as described above. hopefully they will upgrade via firmware upgrades ....soon

7 Channel Amplifier: The Onkyo TX-NR727 AV receiver features a 7-channel amplifier rated at 110 watts (into 8-ohms, at 20Hz-20kHz, with 0.08%, driving 2 channels). The AV receiver's amplifier employs WRAT, 3-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry, H.C.P.S, and Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry for dynamic, detailed, clear sound.
Amplifier Assignment: The 7-channel amplifier can be configured in three ways to match your type of speaker setup.
192kHz/24-bit DACs + 32-Bit DSP Processing: This Onkyo TX-NR727 is equipped with 192kHz/24-bit Burr-Brown DACs to decode and playback high-resolution recordings with less jitter and clearer sound. The receiver also employs a powerful and highly accurate 32-bit processing DSP (Digital Signal Processor) for better surround sound reproduction.
PLL (Phase Locked Loop): PLL jitter-cleaning circuit technology reduces jitter by comparing the input and output phases of the digital signal and creating an accurate clock waveform. This enhances the precision of digital signal processing and noticeably improves audio quality. Jitter-cleaning technology works both for digital signals input via HDMI and for digital signals converted from analog signals inside the receiver itself.
Multi-Channel Decoding Formats: The Onkyo TX-NR727 AV receiver supports the following multi-channel (Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic) decoding formats.
Note: Dolby Digital and DTS listening modes can only be selected if your audio source is connected to the AV receiver via a digital audio connection (HDMI, optical or coaxial). To enjoy true 7.1ch Dolby Digital TrueHD and DTS-HD surround sound, the receiver must be connected to your Blu-ray player via HDMI.
THX Select 2 Plus Certified: The TX-NR727 AV receiver is THX Select 2 Plus certified. Founded by George Lucas, THX develops stringent standards that ensure movies are reproduced in movie theaters and home theaters just as the director intended. From early design concepts to product rollout, THX works with its manufacturing partners at each step of product development. Every detail is meticulously mapped to the THX performance standards. And THX engineers spend countless hours testing and analyzing each product for sound quality, usability and interoperability. The result of this collaborative process is a THX Certified receiver, amplifier or pre-amplifier designed from the ground-up to present your favorite movies, music, and games in 5.1ch to 7.1ch surround sound loud and clear at studio reference volumes. THX Select 2 Plus is specified for rooms where the screen-to-seat viewing distance is 10-12 feet and the room volume is 3,000 cubic feet or greater.
Onkyo Original DSP Modes: Onkyo's Original DSP Modes, combined with Dolby Digital/DTS/Dolby Pro Logic processing, produce more realistic, powerful sound effects for your movie and music sound tracks based on the type of content and your home theater setup. You can choose from the following:
Direct Mode: In Direct mode, audio from the input source is output without surround-sound processing. This mode delivers pure sound with minimum sound quality adjustment and filtration.
Audyssey Technology: The TX-NR727 features a full package of Audyssey audio technologies for optimal sound quality. Audyssey Dynamic Volume offers real-time volume adjustment, while Audyssey DynamicEQ improves your system's surround effects during low volume levels. Audyssey MultEQ automatically sets speakers to suit your room's listening environment and the speakers' characteristics. The AV receiver even offers Audyssey DSX which adds front speaker effects.
Surround Parameters: The Onkyo TX-NR727 lets you tweak and fine tune specific surround sound modes to suit your preference.
Audio Enhancements: The Onkyo TX-NR727 receiver provides various audio enhancements to deliver a high-quality listening experience every time.
Bass Management: The Onkyo AV receiver offers Tone Control and Phase Matching Bass technology to get the most bass impact out of your system.
Volume Setup: The Onkyo AV receiver provides the following volume settings.
Audio Inputs/Outputs: The Onkyo AV receiver offers a variety of analog and digital audio inputs/outputs.
HDMI (v1.4): The TX-NR727 has eight HDMI v1.4 inputs (7 rear/1 front) and two HDMI v1.4 outputs for connecting Blu-ray/DVD players, Satellite/Cable boxes, Game Consoles, and other video components to your TV. The front jack is fixed as the Aux input, while the six rear panel jacks are assignable to any of the other inputs. The dual HDMI outputs can simultaneously output the same audio/video signal to two TVs (video is output at the resolution supported by both TVs). The HDMI jacks can accept and switch 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, and 4K video signals to a HDTV. The HDMI jacks will also support uncompressed standard or high definition digital video along with the following audio signals; 2-channel linear PCM, Multichannel linear PCM (up to 7.1ch), and Bitstream (Dolby Digital/DTS, etc.). In addition, the HDMI jacks are 3D, ARC, HDMI-CEC, Deep/x.v.Color, and Auto Lip-Sync compatible.
Marvel Qdeo Video Chip for 4K Upscaling: The Onkyo TX-NR727 utilizes a Marvel Qdeo Video Chip for 4K upscaling and video processing. The Marvel Qdeo Video Chip produces quiet and natural video, free from noise and artifacts. Analog component/composite video signals are converted to HDMI, so you only need one cable to connect the receiver to your TV. 480i video from the receiver's component/composite video inputs and any HDMI video signal can be scaled to a higher resolution set in the menu. You can set the AV receiver to upscale analog and HDMI video to 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, 4K, Auto (automatically scaled to the highest resolution supported by the display), or Through (no scaling). Upconversion and upscaling is only supported by the main HDMI video output.
HDMI Through: When enabling the HDMI Through function, regardless of whether the AV receiver is "on" or in "standby" both audio and video streams from an HDMI input will be output to your television, via the receiver HDMI monitor output. You can select between 3 HDMI Through functions modes.
Front-Panel HDMI (MHL) Port: The front-panel HDMI port is designed for the connection of select mobile phones and other portable electronic devices using the new MHL standard. Simply plug your MHL compatible smartphone into the receiver's front-panel HDMI port using the HDMI cable that is included with your mobile phone. MHL allows you to display full 1080p video and still images on your HDTV with up to 7.1 channels of surround sound. Play, Stop, and other basic operations can be controlled from the AV receiver's remote control. Your connected smartphone is also recharged upon connection, and no separate power supply for the device is necessary while connected to the receiver.
InstaPrevue: InstaPrevue technology provides a live video thumbnail of the available content on your devices connected to the receiver via HDMI. As a result, you can preview audio/video streams coming from up to five HDMI inputs previously assigned to input selectors on your HDMI connected TV. Even with multiple components connected to receiver through HDMI, you can easily switch between inputs as their previews are displayed on a single screen on your television. You can even use the InstaPrevue feature for Picture-in-Picture. You can specify the number of preview thumbnails, as well as their positioning on-screen.
Note: If no video signal are present, the thumbnails will be filled in black. With 3D video signals, the image may not be properly rendered on the preview thumbnails of InstaPrevue.
Analog Video Inputs: The receiver features four composite video inputs and one composite video monitor output. There is a single component video input and one component video output.
Picture Adjust: Using the Picture Adjust feature, you can adjust the picture quality and reduce any noise appearing on your TV screen.
A/V Sync Control: Occasionally, you may need to manually adjust the audio/video signals that are not properly synchronized manually. Typically when using a progressive scanning DVD player. You can correct this by delaying the audio; options are 0 (no delay) to 800 milliseconds, in 10 millisecond steps.
Separate Audio/Video Sources: You can listen to the audio of one input source while watching the video of another. This function takes advantage of the fact that when an audio-only input source (TV/CD, Phono, Tuner) is selected, the video input source remains unchanged.
Wired or Wireless Network Connection: The Onkyo TX-NR727 AV receiver supports a wired or wireless network connection. Via the AV receiver's network connection, you can enjoy music files stored on your computer and listen to internet radio through a variety of online services.
Media Server Playback: Because the TX-NR727 is DLNA certified, you can play back music files stored on your computer or media server through the AV receiver. Compatible music file formats include MP3 (8-320 kbps; 8-48kHz), WMA (5-320k bps; 8-48kHz), WMA Lossless (16/24-bit; 44.1-96kHz), WAV (8/16/24-bit; 8-192kHz), AAC (8-320 kbps; 8-96kHz), FLAC (8/16/24-bit; 8-192kHz), Ogg Vorbis (48-500 kbps; 8-48kHz), LPCM (8/16/24-bit; 8/96kHz), and Apple Lossless (16/24-bit; 8-96kHz). Advanced music operation will still need to be handled from your Bluetooth-enable device. There is no song/artist information display on the receiver or connected TV. Continue to use your Bluetooth device's screen to view song/artist info.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Onkyo receiver.

If your TV is connected to the composite video or component video monitor output, you will need to use the AV receiver's front-panel display when changing settings.
Multi-Source/Multi-Zone: The TX-NR727 offers three Zones; a multi-channel audio/video system in your main listening room (Main Zone), a stereo audio only system in a second room (Zone 2), and another stereo audio only system in a third room (Zone 3).
Note: *Compatible Sources - Only Tuner, analog, USB, and Network audio sources can be sent to Zone 2 or Zone 3. You must currently be listening to a USB device or Network audio source in the Main Zone to initially select USB or Network as a source in Zone 2 or Zone 3; then you can switch the Main Zone to any source you desire. To playback Bluetooth audio in Zone 2/3, you must also have Bluetooth selected as your source in the main zone. *Incompatible Sources - You cannot select different AM/FM radio stations or listen to USB and Network content in separate Zones at the same time. Optical/coaxial digital and HDMI audio sources are not output to Zone 2 or 3. You cannot output any video signal to Zone 2 or 3.
Whole House Mode: The Whole House Mode is useful when you want to simply add extra background music to your home party. This mode allows you to enjoy the same stereo music as the main room in separate rooms (Zone 2/3). The Whole House Mode selects the same input source for Zone 2/3 as the main room. During the Whole House Mode, stereo playback is automatically selected for all zones. The Main Zone & Zone 2/3 will play at the same volume level.
Preset Input Names: You can enter a preset name for each individual input source for easy identification. When selected, the preset name will be displayed. This feature cannot be used for AM/FM tuner, Network, or USB.
Display Dimmer + Screen Saver: The display brightness has three settings; Dim, Dimmer, and Normal. If there is no video signal on the current input source and no operation for a specific time, a screen saver automatically comes on. You can set the time (3min/5min/10min/off) until the screen saver activates itself. Once active, the screen saver will go off and the screen will return to its previous state if the AV receiver is operated in any way.
Timers: The receiver features a programmable Sleep Timer and Auto Standby function.

I do not use radio except in my car and Lexus has a jewel of one! [ KARL A Apr 27, 2015 ]
I have used my blue tooth in a radio of one thousand feet and the reception is ok. My kid told me he used it beyond that but I haven't check it yet Will try to see if its ok Good Luck. This a is a nice , good quality Onkyo piece of equipment. [ ANIBAL Apr 13, 2015 ]
Perhaps no one knows for certain, Mine has had no problems at all!! [ KARL A Apr 27, 2015 ]
I've only had the NR727 unit for about 6 months, so here's hoping. However, Onkyo seems very sensitive to the HDMI board issue, and will usually fix it, sometimes even after the warranty period. If necessary, you can go on their troubleshooting/message boards, and send a message to the moderator asking for help. He can usually help you arrange to return the unit for repair. On my last Onkyo, the NR-708, they sent me a box and prepaid label for warranty service, even though my unit was 3 years out of warranty. I still have the NR708 in another part of my house. Of course, your mileage may vary :). [ DONALD Nov 11, 2014 ]
Since I've had mine, I haven't had any problems. I can easily switch from DVD to Roku to Wii to DVR. If I want to hook up my laptop, I use another HDMI cable. Hope this helps. [ PATRICIA A. Nov 11, 2014 ]

Douglas, Sorry but I can't answer those questions since I have my receiver inputs wired and do not use wifi or Bluetooth. Joe [ JOSEPH R Oct 22, 2014 ]
They are digital and yes you can listen to them in zone 2 [ MICHAEL E Oct 21, 2014 ]
This receiver doesn't have a dedicated output that you can use for this. However, the 3rd Zone output should actually work okay for this. Keep in mind though that this zone is only compatible with Analog sources like phono. [ Jeff Oct 20, 2014 ] Staff
Yes! If you are listening to a bluetoothe source, press the zone 2 button two times and it will switch to whole house mode and you will hear the Bluetooth source on zone 2. Note that when you do this, you lose channel 6 and 7 in a 7.1 setup! [ PaulV May 19, 2015 ]
We have not received any answers from other customers on your question. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question. [ Krissy Oct 22, 2014 ] Staff
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Yes, HDMI is able to carry audio and video which eliminates the need to have to run separate cables. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy Sep 05, 2014 ] Staff
I don't know. That is too technical a question for me. All I can tell you is that I am extremely happy with this purchase and it has worked flawlessly since the purchase. Harvey [ HARVEY Sep 01, 2014 ]
Brian, Not sure with the Samsung but I have the Sony 4k xbr and could not run the satellite through the Onkyo arc to the tv because of the distance and signal loss. You should be able to run it through the receiver. hope this helps [ JOSEPH R Aug 13, 2014 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: I think the JBL 510 speakers would work great for the Onkyo TX-NR727. Unfortunately we do not carry that system but something similar we offer is the Polk Audio TL1600. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy Jul 25, 2014 ] Staff
It should. I do not own a Nano, but ipods and Iphones have worked (this units supports the latest itunes software), so there is no reason it would not. I use a hard drive and flash drives most often on the USB port, and that works great also. U could copy your itunes to a flash drive if you ran into trouble, and then you could keep your nano handy for on the go use. [ WILLIAM B Jun 30, 2014 ]
Steve, Sorry but I can't answer that since I don't have an ipod nano. Joe [ JOSEPH R Jun 30, 2014 ]
Sorry, can't answer that yet. I have not finished setting up my new receiver [ JOHN R Jun 29, 2014 ]
Best I can tell Ipods and Iphones do not play through the USB. Display says unsupported when they are connected to USB. Maybe someone at Onkyo can give a better answer. [ CHRISTOPHER S Jun 29, 2014 ]
I have a onkyo tx nr 809 to I haven't hooked the 727 yet let me tell u that 809 reads it automatically its a beast onkyo receivers are awesome im sure it will read it automatically 727 im using it for gaming yea it should read it automatically [ PATRICK W May 09, 2014 ]
yes it does. [ david May 06, 2014 ]
Auto is correct. You can manually override. [ DARIN B May 06, 2014 ]
If the receiver is set to the Auto Surround Mode it will decode the signal for you. You can also bypass the Auto Surround Mode and select manual auto options. [ DAVID May 05, 2014 ]
I don't know the answer [ EUGENE May 05, 2014 ]
Yes you can use Cat6, Cat5 is the minimum, Cat5e is the standard, Cat6 is overkill but will work great. [ DAVID May 05, 2014 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Yes, a CAT-6 or CAT-5 Ethernet cable with an RJ-45 connector on each end can be connected from your router into the LAN network input on a receiver. Both CAT-5 and CAT-6 are usable for connecting your network router to your network receiver. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy Apr 30, 2014 ] Staff
Yes you can. If you have net on the main then you will only be able to play the net on zone 2. Now if you have the TV and cable on the main you can listen to the net on zone 2. Look in the manual there is a whole house setting but don't remember how to get to it. [ MICHAEL E Oct 21, 2014 ]
The Zone 2 and Zone 3 sourcing is analog only. This means you will need an analog audio(RCA) input in order to have Zone 2 or Zone 3 output. If you have a digital audio source coming into the unit via HDMI, Coax Digital, or Optical it will not play through Zone 2 or Zone 3. You must install analog audio(RCA) cables in addition to the digital audio cables. A common wiring configuration would be to connect your cable/sat box to the receiver with the HDMI cable, sending both digital video and digital audio to the main zone. Then also connect the analog audio(RCA) from the cable/sat box to the receiver for the Zone 2 and Zone 3. Connecting the receiver in this fashion will allow for digital decoding (dolby digital, dts, etc.) to play through the main zone speakers for use in a home media system and also allow for simultaneous and/or separate playback of the analog signal through the Zone 2 and Zone 3. [ DAVID May 05, 2014 ]
the unit allows you to use speakers A, speakers B or speakers A and B. [ Jon Apr 29, 2014 ]
Hey Joseph, Thanks for your reply. That's good to know but I'm still confused re: what I can listen to on Zone 2. My setup will be our Living Room as MAIN, and our deck outside as ZONE2. So, for example, if the MAIN is set to my TV via HDMI, can I listen to the same TV audio in ZONE2? Similarly, if I'm listening to iTunes Match via AppleTV via Digital Optical on the MAIN, can I also hear that same music in ZONE2? Normally I'd think yes, of course you can, but after reading the manual and some poor reviews, there seems to be some limitations with ZONE2. [ Chris Apr 16, 2014 ]
Hey Chris, I use the same source to play on both main and zone 2. The drawback for me is that I use zone 2 to power 6 sets of speakers in different rooms and the system works great but you need to turn zone 2 on when you power unit on. I'm not sure if you can turn main off other than by turning volume down if not using it. The receiver works great and I would recommend it. Hope this helps [ JOSEPH R Apr 16, 2014 ]
This receiver has built-in Wi-Fi for listening to music from a networked PC, free Internet radio, and music services which includes support for Pandora, Spotify, Rhapsody, SiriusXM, Slacker, last.fm, TuneIn, and Aupeo! (subscription required for some services). It also includes built-in Bluetooth for wireless music streaming from a compatible smartphone, tablet, or computer (which is likely how you would stream from a computer to this unit from iTunes). My concern here is that the SS4.2 speaker selector is designed to work with 8-ohm speakers, so I am not sure about using it with lower ohm rated speakers. I would recommend reaching out to Tech Support before connecting things up. They can help ensure that connecting in this manner won't damage your equipment. [ Jeff Nov 27, 2013 ] Staff
