I bought this a/v reciever when it first come out about 6 months ago. It runs a little hot but they all do at that kind of power....i seen the lower end recievers run just as hot with less power. Make sure u got good ventilation. I dont got any complaints about it other than the heat. However ,with that much power they all gone put out more heat 145 watts time 7 is rockin with a 1000 watt sub. This a/v is highly regarded as one the best if not the best a/v reciever on the market...crutchfield as always has first class sevice..if you have a problem they will work with you in anyway they can

Best receiver for the money if your forced to use HDMI
Written By

I recently purchase a pair of speakers and needed a receiver close to audiophile quality to drive them that accepted HDMI since Im using a PS3 for my blue-ray player. I looked into a high end receiver but $4000 and no Dolby True HD. There was another but that was $7,500 just for the pre-amp so I started looking into regular receivers. I read the Onkyo was one of the best right now for HDMI needs and had better audio over the Yamahas for a more natural sound. The 906 is 4 ohm stable so I knew it would handle my 6 ohm speakers. The rear speakers can be used for bi-amping also and for running a pair of floor standers that is a great feature. The only issues I had was with the HDMI, since Im using a PS3 I have to turn my tv on to select music tracks from cds or sacds but once it is playing and I turn the tv off sometimes it turns the music off. Its just one problems with the HDMIs trying to handshake with each other. Why people had to combine video and audio in 1 wire together is beyond me. I have a cd-sacd player on the way so I can use the analog outs for my music and bypass all the HDMI mess!

Couldn't be Happier!

I had been looking to upgrade my Home Theater to 7.1 for approximately 1 year. After reviewing features, specs, prices and online reviews I chose the Onkyo TX-906 because it offered the 'most bang for the buck'.
After setting it up and dialing in the features I desired- 'I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER'! The performance is incredible for both sound and picture. Yes, I would recommend it to a friend.

Technology upgrade!

I have purchased several items from Crutchfield over the years, including my last home theater and I must say I have not been disappointed. When the time came for me to upgrade to new hi-tech equipment, I searched many local stores and online for for prices and information and ultimately came back to Crutchfield. Although price was not the main factor, in the end Crutchfield had the best price by far. This reciever is relatively easy to set up and use, and when I did have a question Crutchfield helpline solved it quickly and easily. I recently upgraded all my equipment with a 52 inch 1080P television, blu-ray, speakers, subwoofer, and this(reciever) fit right in. The HDMI cables make everythig less complicated and eliminated much of the mess of tangled wires behind the system. Be patient with the inital set-up instructions as its easy to become frustrated, but once sorted out you will be happy with the results. Keep up the good work Crutchfield! J
PS The previous reviews helped with my decision also : )

Very Satisfied

I've had this receiver for about a month now. It was a replacement for my 6 year old TX-SR600.
I got this receiver hooked up to 7 Jamo in ceiling speakers and a Velodyne CHT10. The sound is amazing. Very clear with lots of reserves. The auto speaker callibration makes fine tuning your speakers easy and it's right on the money. My 720p Sony LCD which is running as a monitor because I got all my sound coming from the receiver, so it is used everyday for about 12 hours a day. I have the receiver on the very top of my component shelf, not in between. It runs cool to warm. If I really play it loud for long periods, then it will get very hot (my home is a/c'd). My DISH DVR, Progressive DVD and VCR are connected to the receiver and 1 HDMI cable to the LCD. I'm upconverting everything to 1080i. Everything looks great, including the VCR!. I had a problem with the upconvert set at auto. It would upconvert sometimes to 480p, 720p or 1080i. Sometimes I would get only half a screen on the LCD. A quick call to crutchfield solved the problem. They recommended to set the upconvert to 1080i.
If you are looking for a "top of the line" receiver, get this one instead of spending $3000+ on the competion, you won't regret it. Then use the rest of your money you saved to upgrade your speakers, I did!
