About the USA Spec Honda Bluetooth® Interface

Jon Paul
You never leave your phone at home — so why not have some fun with it when you're on the road? Connect USA Spec's BT35-HON Bluetooth interface, and you can stream tunes and take calls through the factory radio in select 2003-up Honda vehicles while your phone stays in your pocket.

You never leave your phone at home — so why not have some fun with it when you're on the road? Connect USA Spec's BT35-HON Bluetooth interface, and you can stream tunes and take calls through the factory radio in select 2003-up Honda vehicles while your phone stays in your pocket.

So let's say you're rocking out to streaming tunes and a call comes in. No problem — the BT35-HON will switch over to phone mode so you can answer the call. It'll even announce the phone number that's calling. And if your factory radio is off when a call comes in, the interface will actually turn it on so you can talk hands-free.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The USA Spec BT35-HON is a Bluetooth Phone & Music Interface for select Honda vehicles (with or without JBL factory systems). The BT35-HON lets you add Bluetooth hands-free communication and wireless music streaming to your compatible vehicle's factory radio. The USA Spec BT35-HON includes a hide-away module, external microphone, and wiring harness.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The BT35-HON supports Bluetooth Profiles A2DP and AVRCP for wireless audio streaming from a Bluetooth enabled device that can also be controlled from the buttons on your vehicle's factory radio or steering wheel. You can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or stream music apps (such as Pandora, SiriusXM Radio, iHeartRadio, etc.) that are playing on your Bluetooth device to your vehicle's sound system (all speakers will play). You can even skip tracks from your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel controls (other control functions will have to be done from your Bluetooth enabled device). You can control the volume of the music being streamed via your factory radio and steering wheel controls, or the Bluetooth device.

Note: Your Bluetooth enabled device must also support A2DP for audio streaming through your vehicle's sound system and AVRCP to control the Bluetooth device from your vehicle's radio or steering wheel controls.

Hands-Free Communication: The USA Spec BT35-HON supports Bluetooth Profile HFP for hands-free communication from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, so you can take (answer/end) phone calls through your vehicle's factory radio. Your music will be muted and an audible ringtone will be heard through your vehicle speakers when there is an incoming call. The BT35-HON will automatically switch to Bluetooth mode when there is an incoming call (even if your factory radio is turned off). The BT35-HON uses advanced technology to turn your radio on and switch to the correct source to help you never miss a call while driving again. You can even have the BT35-HON announce the caller's phone number through your sound system; and for most text-capable radios if you miss the announcement, you can view the caller's phone number on your factory radio's display (some text capable radios will only list 8 or 9 digits of the phone number).

Note: You will continue to use your mobile's phone touchscreen or keypad to make calls. The BT35-HON only allows you to answer/end calls from your factory radio or steering wheel controls. Once you make a call from your mobile phone, you can carry on the conversation hands-free through the included microphone and your vehicle's factory sound system.

External Microphone: The USA Spec BT35-HON includes an external microphone to carry on your side of the conversation (the caller's voice will be heard through your vehicle's speakers). The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found in many factory or aftermarket head units. The microphone is fitted with a 10' cable terminated by a 3.5mm connector that connects to the BT35-HON module. The microphone features an integrated, self-adhesive mounting bracket to mount the mic to your dash or windshield.

Note: The microphone measures 0.625" (w) x 0.8125" (h) x 1.25" (d).

Bluetooth Compatibility: USA Spec is currently working out a list of fully compatible devices. The current list of successfully tested devices include the iPod touch (3rd/4th gen), iPhone (3G/3GS/4/4S/5), iPad (1/2/3), Android G2, Galaxy, HTC MyTouch, Desire, and Sony Ericsson W518a (as of 9/26/2012). You will initially need to pair your Bluetooth device with the BT35-HON, before operation. The BT35-HON can pair up to 8 devices, but will only connect to 1 device at a time.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the USA Spec BT35-HON. Please refer to the USA Spec website for the latest compatibility listings.

Vehicle Compatibility: The USA Spec BT35-HON is compatible with select 98-2012 Honda vehicles with or without JBL factory systems (as of 7/13/2012).

Installation: The USA Spec BT35-HON plugs into the back of your Honda factory radio. The factory harness gets unplugged from the factory radio and the included interface harness (CAS-TY35) plugs in between the factory radio and the factory harness. The interface harness also plugs into the USA Spec BT35-HON. Finally, connect the external microphone to the BT35-HON's mic input and mount the microphone to your dash or windshield.

No it does not. It adds Bluetooth capability to what is already there.
jeff  Nov 08, 2015
A
To my knowledge this is an additional input to the system. After installing i dont see any issues.
natarajasheker  Nov 07, 2015
A
No it does not. One push of the AUX button on the 2008 CRV goes to the phone and another push goes back to aux input.
christopher  Nov 06, 2015
A
No, The included wiring plugs into the wiring harness of the car radio not to AUX jacks. In my car it shows on the radio as CDX. I don't know if it is the same for all models
paul  Nov 05, 2015
A
No, the AUX jack remains operational in my 2009 Odyssey

Q
Can you use SIRI on an iPhone to make a call or send a text?
bryan  Sep 14, 2015

A
Never tried that on this unit but you should be able to. It's just basically an external mic and speaker for you phone. You still have access to everything on your phone. Of coarse you would have to hold the home button on your phone for Siri still then speak.
timothy  Sep 16, 2015
A
I dont use an iPhone, so I am unable to advise you.
clive  Sep 15, 2015
A
No. You have manually dail the phone number first then the Bluetooth function will automatically allow you to use the microphone from the added interface. I found an excellent installer to put my device in my Honda.
dennis  Sep 15, 2015
A
The phone works as it would with any type of bluetooth connection. So yes, Siri is functional with this.
christopher  Sep 15, 2015
Q
My car has factory satellite in the unit. Is this plug and play just so I can add Bluetooth to make calls? Or do I need anything else so I dont lose my satellite? Thanks!!

For details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle.

Q
Will this product allow you to use the steering wheel controls like the Audiovox product sold by Crutchfield?
joel  Jan 06, 2015
1 answer
A
The ability to retain steering wheel controls with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have. For full information on this type of integration (including the parts you will need) please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
Can this device connect more than one phone at a time?
richard  Dec 06, 2014
4 answers
A
No, only one at a time. You can pair it with multiple devices but it will only maintain a connection to one at a time.
brad  Dec 08, 2014
A
Yes, you can I believe the spec is up to 4 phones. In my experience when multiple phones are present in the car, when turning on car power, the last phone connected reconnects unless it's BT is first turned off. Only one phone is active on the BT network at a time. Of course you'll want to review the installation and operation manual before buying and verify that this unit can do all that you want it to for your needs.
steven  Dec 07, 2014
A
Just one phone at a time only.
chike  Dec 07, 2014
A
Yes

Q
If you install this on a 22 month old 2012 Honda Civic, will you void the 36 month bumper to bumper warranty?
jason  Oct 22, 2014
1 answer
A
Based upon what it took to install in my 2012 accord, the answer should be no. There is not cutting or splicing of manufacturing materials. You simply plug it into the open plug on your radio. If necessary, you could unplug and no one would know you had it installed.
