Product Research

Overview: The USA Spec BT35-HON is a Bluetooth Phone & Music Interface for select Honda vehicles (with or without JBL factory systems). The BT35-HON lets you add Bluetooth hands-free communication and wireless music streaming to your compatible vehicle's factory radio. The USA Spec BT35-HON includes a hide-away module, external microphone, and wiring harness.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The BT35-HON supports Bluetooth Profiles A2DP and AVRCP for wireless audio streaming from a Bluetooth enabled device that can also be controlled from the buttons on your vehicle's factory radio or steering wheel. You can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or stream music apps (such as Pandora, SiriusXM Radio, iHeartRadio, etc.) that are playing on your Bluetooth device to your vehicle's sound system (all speakers will play). You can even skip tracks from your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel controls (other control functions will have to be done from your Bluetooth enabled device). You can control the volume of the music being streamed via your factory radio and steering wheel controls, or the Bluetooth device.

Note: Your Bluetooth enabled device must also support A2DP for audio streaming through your vehicle's sound system and AVRCP to control the Bluetooth device from your vehicle's radio or steering wheel controls.

Hands-Free Communication: The USA Spec BT35-HON supports Bluetooth Profile HFP for hands-free communication from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, so you can take (answer/end) phone calls through your vehicle's factory radio. Your music will be muted and an audible ringtone will be heard through your vehicle speakers when there is an incoming call. The BT35-HON will automatically switch to Bluetooth mode when there is an incoming call (even if your factory radio is turned off). The BT35-HON uses advanced technology to turn your radio on and switch to the correct source to help you never miss a call while driving again. You can even have the BT35-HON announce the caller's phone number through your sound system; and for most text-capable radios if you miss the announcement, you can view the caller's phone number on your factory radio's display (some text capable radios will only list 8 or 9 digits of the phone number).

Note: You will continue to use your mobile's phone touchscreen or keypad to make calls. The BT35-HON only allows you to answer/end calls from your factory radio or steering wheel controls. Once you make a call from your mobile phone, you can carry on the conversation hands-free through the included microphone and your vehicle's factory sound system.

External Microphone: The USA Spec BT35-HON includes an external microphone to carry on your side of the conversation (the caller's voice will be heard through your vehicle's speakers). The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found in many factory or aftermarket head units. The microphone is fitted with a 10' cable terminated by a 3.5mm connector that connects to the BT35-HON module. The microphone features an integrated, self-adhesive mounting bracket to mount the mic to your dash or windshield.

Note: The microphone measures 0.625" (w) x 0.8125" (h) x 1.25" (d).

Bluetooth Compatibility: USA Spec is currently working out a list of fully compatible devices. The current list of successfully tested devices include the iPod touch (3rd/4th gen), iPhone (3G/3GS/4/4S/5), iPad (1/2/3), Android G2, Galaxy, HTC MyTouch, Desire, and Sony Ericsson W518a (as of 9/26/2012). You will initially need to pair your Bluetooth device with the BT35-HON, before operation. The BT35-HON can pair up to 8 devices, but will only connect to 1 device at a time.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the USA Spec BT35-HON. Please refer to the USA Spec website for the latest compatibility listings.

Vehicle Compatibility: The USA Spec BT35-HON is compatible with select 98-2012 Honda vehicles with or without JBL factory systems (as of 7/13/2012).

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy install. Features are good. Audio level from my iPhone is low. Audio is a bit tinny. I have tried different volume levels from the iPhone.

Pros: Functions work well. Simple install.

Cons: Audio quality is okay to poor

Pretty cool

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I like it so far. the sound quality is good, and it is fairly easy to install. It has malfunctioned a couple times randomly and disabled my xm radio or other services for a period of time for some reason, but everything is working currently and I am happy so far.

Pros: handfree

Cons: a few glitches/malfunctions early on

Stopped working one year later

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Install no problem, worked great. For one year, then it just stopped. Pulled dash apart, checked all connections and followed all troubleshooting tips. Tried calling service for USA Spec several times and nobody answered. Can't keep pulling dash out whenever it stops working so I'll be buying another brand.

Pros: Works for a limited time

Cons: Works for a limited time

Listening to music and audio in tin cans

Written By derekc., Miami, FL on Tuesday, April 29, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had the wired module from USASPEC and it finally wore out. I was sick of cables so I went with the BT-35 solution last week. Boy, it has been a frustrating experience.

Call quality seems good. However, all music (purchased through Google Play so at least 320kbps), streaming apps like TuneIn Radio, and all audiobooks from Audible sound like it's in a vacuum chamber with tin cans. In fact, music loses vocals and bass.

Tested with: Nexus 5, Nexus 7 2012, ASUS Transformer Prime, and Samsung Galaxy SII.

Crutchfield is out of stock. This means I can't get a replacement any time soon.

Pros: no 3.5mm cables required phone calls via BT on stereo

Cons: music is nearly unbearable audiobooks sound funky

08 Civic Si Bluetooth

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this because I wanted a way to control my iPhone 5S from the steering wheel, hands free calls, and convenience. I would return this item if it wasn't already all wired up and installed. It only took me 45 minutes or so to run the wire for the microphone and take apart the dash to clip into the back of the radio, and have it all back together again to be disappointed. Overall the audio for a phone call is decent, as many other reviewers have mentioned, the person on the other end says it sounds like I've got them on speaker.

As for the audio: If you've ever played with the EQ settings and chosen a 'bathroom' sound profile, thats exactly how it sounds. It seems to have removed most of the bass, and there is this weird echo, albeit it's very hard to notice. What also kills the audio for me is that it sounds like you put your iPhone in a tin can to have it make your iPhone louder. Thats the best way I could describe the sound quality. Because the review on here are so mixed I had to buy it to find out, but on hind site I wish I listened more carefully to the negative reviews.

I would not recommend if you're looking for sound quality.

Pros: Added hands-free calling with steering wheel controls. Connects automatically Nice harness, just plug and play

Cons: Sound quality. Again, Sounds like the music has been stripped of its bass with a tinny treble echo.

USA SPEC for Honda crv

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product does everything advertised and does it great. Installation was very straight forward. It took about 1.5 hours. Most of that time was taking apart the dash. Do look at videos on You Tube for working with a CRV dash. If you want to keep your factory radio, this is the product to purchase.

Pros: Connects automatically for incoming calls. Streaming music sounds the same as factory. Siri can understand voice commands.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

System works really well in car. I would recommend it to anyone that has a car that doesn't have it in it factory.

Pros: It lets you control the system with the controls on the steering wheel. It helps you to focus more on driving and not your phone.

Cons: Just know that the sound will not sound like a factory radio, but it still sound great.

Awesome, Simple Enhancement

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this as a present for my girlfriend who was jealous of my Mazda's factory bluetooth integration. Worked flawlessly with her 2006 Civic which has the factory touchscreen navigation unit. I recommend looking for a video on youtube for how to remove the dash in order to get at the plug on the back of the radio. The most annoying part is the two 8mm bolts you have to remove behind a panel in the little cubby where the Aux plug is since you can't really see what you are doing and have to work by "feel". I did have to unplug all the wires that connect to the dash panel in order to access the back of the radio, but they are easy to remove and then click back in. I put the actual module just left of the air vent on the right side of the steering column and put the mic on the dash left of the steering wheel and audio sounds good on calls. You do NOT lose the CD input after installing this, every function from the original stereo still works. Overall a fairly simple install and a cheap, straightforward way to get bluetooth into a Honda.

Pros: Works with Factory steering wheel buttons and radio Simple wire harness based install, no wire-stripping or splicing required

Cons: Wasn't free ;-)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

easy to install and very clear on calls. connects to my iphone each time I enter the car with out any problems. I do have to switch back to another mode everytime I get in the car if I do not listen to an app on my phone. Navigation voice and other apps come through which is great. I put the mic through the small hole in the upper left corner of the console tray. I mount mic right below fan blower knob It blends in perfectly and works well in that location. Iphone still connected about 20 feet outside of the car!

Pros: Works great and is clear.

Cons: Did take about 30 minutes to position the unit in the dash and find a convenient place for the mic.

Great device, works perfectly! Setup was simple with iPhone 5s. Installed in a 2008 Honda Ridgeline. Maintains use of steering wheel controls. Streams music from variety of music apps like Pandora, Spotify, and iTunes Radio. Provides hands free phone calls.

Pros: Fast and easy to install. Simple to operate.

Cons: None

Very simple to install

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Install couldn't be simpler or go more smoothly. My iPhone 5 discovered and connected automatically the first try. Streaming from the iPhone or Pandora rivals CD quality and has worked flawlessly. Incoming calls are controlled with my steering wheel controls and the incoming and outgoing call quality is very good to excellent.

Pros: ease of install quality of streaming audio from multiple sources ease of use for incoming calls

Cons: have to initiate outgoing calls from the phone itself

Nice Product

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was simple. Product exactly as advertised. Highly recommended.

Pros: plug and play is very simple. Easy to test before vehicle reassembly.

Cons: It would be very nice if the microphone feed could be from the built in microphone for the voice controls

easy to install, sound quality could be better

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The installation was very easy, steering wheel controls work as expected. Works well with my phone, npaired without any trouble.

Pros: Easy install, connects to the phone quickly, steering wheel controls work well with it

Cons: Audio quality on music could be better, but that may just be a limitation of Bluetooth in general

Good product

Written By Martin, SF on Tuesday, December 17, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Much cheaper route than trying to replace the head unit in a 2005 Honda Accord. Like the hands free phone calls. Audio quality is good, but not excellent. Installation leaves the car stock.

Seamless performance, questionable fit.

Written By Steven, Sacramento, CA on Tuesday, December 17, 2013

2007 Honda Accord and installed this unit myself. Plug and play easy and worked perfect. Awesome sound once you get your phone call and music volumes on the same level and still maintains steering wheel controls. Song changes from the wheel are lightning fast compared to some new car OEM units I've used. Good sound quality while driving including phone calls.

My only issue was the fit of the wiring harness into the head unit. It was extremely tight and required some serious thought and finesse to tuck it in just right. It took a couple different attempts at running the harness various ways before I could get the compartment below the radio in place AND get the compartment door to open properly. It still rubs the harness as it's opening and I'm concerned about the cable's lifespan. The harness plugs into the underside of my radio so this product should have vehicle specific (not manufacturer specific) harnesses or adapters. What fits on another honda might not on mine. Accords could use an angled end plug on the cable itself to make clearance for the compartment door.

Ran the wiring harness cable around the inner edge lip of the center walls. Tucked the unit in on the passenger side. Ran the mic cable out the back driver side that opens near the gas pedal, ran it back up the steering column. Attached the mic on the dash below the gas gauge, just along where the steering wheel meets the dash. Good phone call quality there.

Pros: Ease of install. Sound quality. Plug and play simplicity. Easy DIY. 30 minute project.

Cons: Wiring harness fit is too tight. May affect the compartment door below the radio on 7gen Honda Accord.

Works fine, easy to install, combined w/USA SPEC PA15-HON2

Written By DB, Westchester County, NY on Monday, October 21, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used this product to add hands-free calling to my 2009 Honda CRV EX-L with navigation. I had previously purchased and installed the USA SPEC PA15-HON2 device so I could use my iPhone for Pandora, etc. with a wired connection to the stereo. Then I wanted hands-free calling as well, and bought this bluetooth interface. I removed the stereo again and plugged in this unit first to the stereo, then the PA15-HON2. I was able to install the mic by the rear view mirror without having to remove the A pillar. Just removing the weatherstripping around the door was sufficient, as I could snake the cable through the slight gap between the inside car roof fabric and the roof, as well as squeeze the wire behind the A-pillar where it meets the roof fabric as well. So, no wires are exposed. Easy to pair with iPhone, and then radio volume automatically quiets when have incoming call or make outgoing call. Only issue is the volume for the phone conversation is lower than the radio volume, so need to always increase volume when on the phone. Slightly annoying, so that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

Pros: Easy to install; works fine

Cons: Call volume not as loud as stereo music, so need to increase volume during calls

Pros: Functions as though it was factory installed. Easy to install. Clear audio and phone syncs easily.

Cons: No cons. Functions great.

Easy to install. Did not do what I bought it to do. i was trying to mimic the hands free service in my wife's CRV as I have in my Ram truck. She cannot make calls only sometimes recieve calls and texts dont show up disappointing to say the least.

It's definitely worth it!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product is definitely what others have said it is. I use this in conjunction with the USA Spec iPod Adapter. It works well and gives the necessity of Bluetooth in my 2011 Honda Pilot EX-L (why Bluetooth isn't a factory feature in a 2011 is a Honda issue...)

The sound is great in the car; you do have to turn up the volume to hear your calls, so be careful when going back to stereo/CD/XM with the volume adjustment. It's also pretty easy to install. I went somewhere and paid for an install; after returning TWICE and STILL having it botched up, I called USA Spec Tech support - they were SUPER helpful, and walked me through the install over the phone. If you're careful and pay attention to detail, you can take the dash apart, get to the back of the stereo and do a self-install! I'm happy overall. If I would've known about this product sooner, maybe I wouldn't have traded in my 2007 Honda Pilot.

Pros: Pretty easy install, okay sound quality, good alternative for no bluetooth. Also works well with iPod adapter.

Cons: Paying for an install instead of doing it myself the first time!

Great Bluetooth Integration Option!!

Written By mentaltofu, Gaithersburg, MD on Tuesday, August 20, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great option to integrate BT to your factory stereo. I've got a 07 CRV with factory radio (no satellite or GPS or BT), and wanted BT integration. I was about to pull the trigger on a full stereo replacement, one of the Pioneer double DIN touchscreen radios, but the one thing holding me back was I read reviews stating the FM signal was poor, which was a deal breaker. When I saw this option at less than 1/2 the cost of the radio I was considering, it was a no brainer to try. I knew if I didn't like it, I could return to Cructhfield. Install is a breeze, the hardest part actually was settling on where to put the microphone and getting the factory stereo out. But simply search YouTube for how to remove the old stereo, there are plenty of easy videos showing how to take care of it. I had the whole thing installed in about an hour, soup to nuts.

I'm able to answer a call using the seek forward button on my steering wheel, end/reject a call using the seek back button. If a call comes in, the adapter will auto mute whatever station I'm listening to or pause music I'm streaming, then switch back when the call ends.

Highly recommend!

Pros: Low cost; simple integration

Cons: Don't get any display functionality on my factory radio, but I didn't expect that as it's a basic radio.

Great product!!

Cons: No cons to really complain about

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Super simple hookup in my 2005 Odyssey LX. Quickly found a video online of how to take the dash apart, 3 screws and 10 minutes. Hookup of the BT unit was plug and play. I am a little disappointed that I can't play CDs now (BT takes over the CD player slot on the radio) but with iPhone music I don't really need the CDs anymore so its a wash. My audio sound seems OK both for music and for phone.

Pros: Easy installation

Cons: Can't use CD anymore.

The BT35-HON is compatible with the Honda Pilot which I installed in my wife's vehicle. I have the wired version (non-bluetooth PA15-HON2) in my Element SC which works flawlessly and the sound reproduction on the highs and lows is terrific.

The bluetooth unit above, not so good. Installation is easy on the BT35-HON, bluetooth phone calls are average with your voice sounding hollow on the call receiver's end. Streaming music using the iPhone 4S is definitely poor. The Pilot is an EX with a factory subwoofer, no nav and during bluetooth streaming of music, most of the volume level is directed out all the speakers with the exception of the front and rear door speaker, at a very low volume level. The subwoofer is non functional. You can turn up the sub to +6 and it sounds no different as when it's all the way down.

My wife who is the furthest from being an audiophile, remarked how poor the sound reproduction is when streaming music via bluetooth. (Using the car's AUX in via 1/8" cable sounds perfect.) I called the folks over at USA Spec and explained my situation with the BT35-HON and they said it should work fine, to check wiring in the dash and the volume level on the iPhone; which did not change the bass response when adjusted.

I'd be curious to hear of other devices have this issue when paired with the BT35. Sadly I do not recommend product at all.

Pros: Easy to install, pair the device, make and receive calls

Cons: Poor sound quality using hands free, no bass response from factory sub when streaming music via bluetooth regardless of turning up the device's volume and switching the iPhone EQ to Bass Boost.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just purchased a 2011 Honda CRV, and it had all the bells & whistles you could want except one thing. Bluetooth. After having Bluetooth in all my previous 5 cars, it's a very hard whistle to be without. Crutchfield had the USA SPEC Honda Bluetooth Interface (BT35-HON), which was the only thing out there (online & at dealerships) that I could find. After purchasing I brought it to my mechanic who quickly installed, and now my CRV has all those Bells & Whistles that you'd expect would come from the manufacturer...and best of all, it works PERFECT!

Pros: Bluetooth capability for streaming music, phone...

Cons: None

Works perfect on 2007 honda accord w/ nav

Written By Amburgs, Findlay, OH on Wednesday, April 10, 2013

I thought long and hard, but I finally bought this unit. Had it installed. Works great. Sound over stereo is fine. If your on the fence, look no more. I have a 2007 honda accord 4cyl with navigation. A new screen pops up on the audit controls called CD-C. Use seek up to answer and seek down to hang up or reject. Use it all the time and everyone I talk to on the phone says they hear me fine. If you install yourself, I had it installed on the drivers side window next the sun visor. Said it cuts down on wind noise. Exact opposite of what I thought.

Pros: Works just as advertised

Cons: None.

Extremely Disappointed 07 Civic Si

Written By redline144, Wheeling, WV on Sunday, April 07, 2013

I bought this unit anticipating the crystal clear bluetooth audio streaming that my mother's Corolla and friend's factory systems have. I was gravely mistaken. The audio streaming on this unit is not what I had expected. I hardly have any of the bass response I have with the 1/8" aux input. Also, it sounds like there is a lot of echo/reverb on all of the vocals. I understand it is pretty common practice while producing music, but this is just overkill. You can especially tell this when switching from the 1/8" aux input back to bluetooth. It's kind of hard to explain without actually hearing it. When a call comes through it automatically switches to CDC mode and won't switch back, not a huge pain but irritating. I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 because the quality of calls seems to be pretty good. I hid the mic in the sunroof control area with the factory holes. I don't think I would buy this product again. However, if you're just looking for a basic handsfree talking option this is a good product. However, if you're looking for quality audio, this is not the unit.

Pros: Pretty good quality voice.

Cons: Streaming audio subpar. Doesn't switch back from CDC mode.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this system because I wanted to maintain the factory stereo and wanted an option that would be mostly hidden. I did the installation by myself. Obviously, the hardest part was taking the factory radio out, after that it was as easy as pushing a couple of connector in. The device worked as intended and had very good sound for both music and when on the phone people on the other side was able to hear me with no problems. Things I didn't like were that the radio would always start in Aux even when I had left it in FM, and that it didn't display any text for music or callers, even though the radio has the capability for displaying text (fair since they clearly state in the specs that the system does not support text) Now, I would've been happy if those were my only comments, unfortunately the equipment failed after just two days. While in a middle of a call it disconnected from my iPhone and it never paired again with it. I even try with different phones to discard it was my phone but was never able to pair and it didn't even showed as an available device. I called Crutchfield support and they gave me a few ideas that I followed. First, disconnected the car battery for at least 10 seconds, nothing happened. Then, pull the radio out and checked all the connections were ok. I pulled the radio out disconnected the cables, waited a minute or so, then reconnected again, but nothing happened. Fortunately, Crutchfield support and service is superv and they quickly issued a RMA.

Pros: Good sound... when it worked.

Cons: Reliability - only lasted 2 days!

Works great!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The videos were easy to follow and the center compartment came out with no problem. I ended up taking the mic up through the gear shifter panel and attaching it right below the E brake instead of up thru the A-pillar. Still sounds great when on the phone. Music sounds great and finally can listen to my Spotify!!!

Pros: Easy to install without any special tools.

Cons: Don't forget to plug cig lighter or seat Warmers back in before you put everything back together unless you like doing things twice.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy install in a 2011 Honda Pilot EX with RES(there are 2 screws that are not shown in the radio removal instructions, though). I think it took about a half hour. Mic is mounted on the windshield next to the rearview mirror. Calls sound good and music sounds great! I'm not a total audiophile, but I have been a musician for a loooong time so stuff's gotta sound decent for me. I do get an echo with podcasts, and haven't been able to figure out a cause or solution yet...Super stoked that I didn't spend the extra for the touring model just for bluetooth!! I didn't need the trim tools, just found a corner and wedged my fingers in and pulled.

Pros: Plays nicely with RES, and bluetooth music sounds good!

Cons: echo with podcasts when streamed with bluetooth

A nice upgrade!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product does everything it advertises. A welcome addition to my Honda without major expense. Installation was relatively easy (3.5 difficulty on 1-5 scale). Toughest part is running the microphone up the A-pillar. (Note to Crutchfield: make sure in your MasterSheets to note that the center console clips are considered; the middle of the trim piece near the gear shift lever is weak and will easily break if not careful.)

Pros: As-advertised, performs flawlessly. Excellent sound quality; streaming of music on phone is a nice benefit. Great value for the cost.

Cons: Installation is not recommended for people not used to removing trim pieces in their cars. There is not an easy mounting option for the control box within the center console (under all of the trim) and some creativity is needed (I used double-sided adhesive tape and zip-ties to hold the control box in place).

Nice alternative to replacing your head unit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit makes it easy to add bluetooth to your factory head unit. The installation is pretty simple. I also bought USA Spec's ipod interface. It was a little trickier to add both. I wish the directions would have mentioned this possibility.

Pros: Easy installation (when installed alone). Easy pairing with iphone. Streams music better than I would have expected (if you listen to compressed music files anyway you may not know the difference).

Cons: Doesn't stream audio text. Must use your phone to make a call (which is probably not much harder than looking through menus on a aftermarket head unit to make a call).

Nice addition

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Had this unit professionally installed in my 2009 CRV. My main purpose was to use the hands free bluetooth phone option. This works very well. Streaming audio from my Iphone works very well as well. I consider this a low cost and nicely engineered unit that handles the basics very well. I was looking for that and am well pleased with this unit.

Pros: Integrates well with the OEM stereo system. Steering wheel controls work flawlessly making operations very easy.

Cons: Only thing is the volume needs to be adjusted upwards for phone calls. But, certainly not a real issue.

Works well in '07 Odyssey

Written By Odyssey07, Richmond, Virginia on Monday, January 07, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in an '07 Odyssey with DVD but no navigation or XM. The BT-35 HON works as advertised. The iPhone 4S and iPhone 3 synch consistently and we have experienced no undesired disconnect issues. Note that while the voice will state the incoming number, the factory radio display does not support the text function. The music streaming sound quality is excellent (you would think that it is a hard-wire connection). The bluetooth phone quality is good but not outstanding. The installation was fairly easy, but I do recommend purchasing the plastic trim tools to ease of removing the plastic dash panels and also to avoid damage (Bojo ATH-CR3-NGL). I was able to mount the microphone on the dash panel just behind the gear selector which eliminated the need to run the wire through the dash, A-Pillar, and headliner. Expimented with the quality of clarity prior to permanantely mounting the mic. I would recommend this product to another Honda user.

Pros: Nice upgrade to a Honda which was not equipped with bluetooth from the factory. Works well with steering wheel controls, music streaming is excellent. About as good as it gets with an aftermarket unit.

Cons: Cructhfield instructions only cover the radio removal and do not show how to run the mic wire across the dash, up the a-pillar, and headliner. Called tech support and they could not help with this either. I suggest the mounting of the mic on the dash near the gear shift selector.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this for my wife's '07 Odysee and it worked flawlessly the first time. Answer and hang up with steering wheel buttons! Music stream via Bluetooth is very clear. Didn't time the install but it was really easy. It took a while to get the panels off because I wasn't sure where the clips were and didn't want to break anything. It interfaces via the XM connection on the main unit so unplug that one only and save yourself a ton of time. Also the control portion on the bottom didn't need to come out; another time saver.

Pros: Easy install. Connected instantly to iPhone 4, 4S, and 5! Very long cord on main box to hide but still access and on microphone too. Was able to mount on windshield and still run across headliner, down A-pillar door gasket and under dash. Voice tells you when connected, disconnected and reads incoming phone number.

Cons: None so far.

Great product for the Odyssey

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a Honda Odyssey 2005 and after asking what I was looking for, Keith recommended this product. I was hesitant about it since I have never installed a product like this before. Keith was great about my concerns and suggested I also buy a kit to help with removing the panels. The kit and the detailed Crutchfield installation directions were critical in the installation going smoothly. It took me about 90 minutes since I was being very careful with removing the panels since I didn't want to mess them up.

The product works great for the things we use most: receiving calls and listening to music through our iPhone. Receiving calls is especially great since the phone can be in my pocket and I can still answer it just by hitting the "channel up" button on the steering wheel. Some reviewers have complained about the sound quality, but for me it was fine. I have tried FM transmitters in the past and compared to them, this product's audio quality was vastly superior.

We are very happy with the recommendation and the product performance so far. We have been using it for about 2 weeks.

Pros: * Price * Quality * Integration with existing controls * Installation instructions were great

Written By UVAMACK, Maryland on Tuesday, November 06, 2012

I have used this product for a few weeks with some issues. Crutchfield sent out a replacement immediately, but I have decided not to install the replacement. Bluetooth streaming works rather well except for when it cuts out. At first, USA-SPEC thought it may be the cellular signal dropping out, it doesn't seem to be the case. On average, during my 1 hour commute it will drop 3x and I will have to push the mode button on my car to get back to the CD-C mode in my Honda. Understand, it stays on CD-C, but I have to shuffle back through so it will pick up my Bluetooth stream again.

As far as the call quality for people on the other end, everyone says it sounds like I am in a tunnel except USA-SPEC. USA-SPEC's customer service is great, I just don't feel the product fits my needs. I am ordering a similar product but this product has the Apple Chip which should alleviate some of my issues AND it will display the songs on the screen.

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: Subpar Bluetooth Doesn't display the song/artist on the screen If you are on XM radio and receive a call, it switches to CD-C mode, then when the call ends it stays in that mode. You have to toggle back to XM radio mode. HUGE PAIN. Hopefully their next product will be ready for Prime Time

2011 Honda Pilot

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this for my wifes new 2011 Honda Pilot EXL. We were torn initially on buying her current vehicle or a touring package, because the touring package is the only model that came with factory bluetooth handsfree calling. Well we decided that wasn't worth the addiitional thousands of dollars so I took a gamble on this product and can say that I am very pleased with the results! After receiving the product and going over the instructions for install provided by Crutchfield it took less than an hour to get it fully installed and working. I was able to do it after work but before a Halloween party the night it arrived. I would suggest that you have the proper trim removal tools to get it installed. After pulling the side trim pieces and removing 6 screws everything popped out and I was able to install the cable that came with the device. I did a quick test routing all the cables and put everything back together. This has been great. It uses the factory sterrng wheel controls to cycle through play list and to answer and hangup the phone. It will even allow you to answer the phone when you are not on the aux input. If a call is inbound it just switches to the aux input and starts reading the phone number to you over the speakers. you cna then answer by pressing channel up on the sterring wheel. once the call is complete you have to manually change back to your input you were on. The mic quality is just ok it is as good as any vehicle mount bluetooth mic.

Pros: Ease of install Quality of product Sound Quality is great Mic looks like a factory installed piece Price! Didn't cost me thousands of dollars to make my wife happy!

Cons: Sometimes disconnects from device. Specifically my android phone. It does not do this with my wifes Iphone so I am not sure it is the devices fault or my phones No mounting holes on device and a little bulky to use zipties on

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Im writing this review 24 hours after i installed the device. i think the reviews below me sum it up best: It is a great device, easy to install, with limited features. i dont mind having to dial from the phone for bluetooth, but what really annoys me is the volume of the audio streaming. People say they hear me great via bluetooth calls, but the audio isn't loud enough. its clear, and crisp, but i feel like isnt loud enough. other than that, the thing is a beauty. I watched one video on how to take apart my dash. I didnt even have to take out my factory radio. If you use a flathead to remove the XM radio connector, then removing the radio isnt necessary. Phone call quality is crystal clear, but you do have to raise the volume up for people to hear you clearly, just gets some getting used to. overall its great! took me about 90 minutes to install, and i had to open it back up because my mic was disconnected. Also as soon as you step in the car, it pairs with your bluetooth seamlessly. when calls are made it picks them up right away, and once its done it will revert back to whatever it is you are listening to. it works with Siri, and navigation in the iphone5.

Pros: Easy to Install, Easy to use, Pairs Instantly, Clean Sound Quality, Great Phone quality Crutchfield Tech Support (helped me hide all my wires behind the steering column)

Cons: Not loud enough, no text to display (doesnt bother me though)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great product that works seamlessly with the factory NAV on my Ridgeline and Civic. I can now listen to music through BT and receive/make calls handsfree. Installation was a breeze and only took about an hour. I rate it 4 stars because of it's ease of installation, use, and convenience. I also know that USA-Spec is a reputable company with good products. The only thing I noticed is that you have to turn up the volume up more than normal. Depending on how good of a copy your music is when streaming thru BT, you may have to turn up the volume more. Same with calls, you will have to turn it up to hear the caller better. Another thing I noticed with streaming music is that music with deeper base is more shallow (like others have said, cassette tape quality), doesn't sound like it's from a CD or using the AUX connection. But you know what, I'd take that than having to connect with a cable all the time.Other than that, I have absolutely no issues with it. With that said, I would purchase it again.

Pros: Ease of installation, use, convenience, cost

Cons: Quality of streaming music isn't as good (but that could be the copy of my MP3s). You have to turn up the volume more to stream and on calls.

Works Great, but...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy install and retains XM Satellite Radio. Does not display Caller ID on radio because it is using the AUX setting. The bummer of Honda OEM radios. Steering wheel controls work seamlessly. The over quality of streaming music using Bluetooth is extremely poor. It has a strange echo and tinny. So if you want high quality music from your phone, I would direct connect it using the USA Spec PA15-HON2 as mentioned in another review of this project.

Pros: Easy setup, seamless controls

Cons: Does not display Caller ID, Poor music quality when streaming.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just installed this product in my 2004 Honda Accord. To my surprise, I did not have to remove the head unit or dash panel. I just had to gain access to it and plug in the cable. The hardest part was figuring out where to run cables. I installed unit behind the glove box in case I need to get access to unit easily. Audio sounds OK. Immediately connected with iPhone 3GS. Made a few calls. No one has mentioned that it sounds like I am on a microphone. Went to audio shop and they wanted to charge me $189 + $100 install fee + tax. Bought this and installed myself within one hour. Love it! Crutchfield delivered as promised. Wish it had text display but it was not a deal breaker at all. I am hands freeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Pros: Ease of install. Bluetooth technology. Hands free and no cables.

Cons: No text display. Still have to touch phone for outgoing phone book or voice support.

Very disappointed

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have owned and installed 2 other hard-wired USA spec ipod interface boxes, and they were both awesome. This bluetooth one is junk by comparison. First off, the audio quality over bluetooth was really disappointing. I know bluetooth uses a compressed signal, but it was worse than I was expecting. It sounded like a cassette tape honestly. There was an obvious background hiss and the lows were muddy and distorted and the highs were tinny. When I had my wife come out, I was expecting her to say "sounds great" because she's no audiophile, but instead she said "it's ok... I can live with that". That pretty much says it all.

Then we tried out phone calls with her iphone 4S and my 3GS. The unit consistently cut off our phone calls for no apparent reason after about the 1-minute mark. Also I thought the microphone was terrible. I could barely hear anything on my home phone with volume the whole way up. Yes, we moved around the mic and even held it right up to our mouths with little improvement. Can't understand how it would work at all if we were actually driving. Why they would cheap out on the microphone is beyond me.

Maybe I got a defective one, but I was so unimpressed with the overall product that I didn't even want to try again. I sent it back for a refund. Real bummer that I wasted time and took apart my dash for no reason.

Pros: Bluetooth music streaming works perfectly fine, if you miss the sound of cassette tapes.

Cons: Seems cheaply made overall. Poor phone call quality.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great deal from Crutchfield, fast ship and easy to install. I have a 2006 Honda Ridgeline RTL, no navi, but with a sub and with XM. I installed the unit down by the center console panel by the right side near gas pedal, running the harness up through the underside of dash, into head unit area, right under the left-center air vent. Then, I ran the microphone wire under the steering column area, zip-tying the wire to various items under the dash. Run the microphone wire under the weatherstripping and the microphone has tape to affix it to the windshield pillar. Anyway, how great it is to take and make calls through the stereo. Also, finally able to listen to my music from the iphone 3gs. I had previously purchased the wired USA-spec previously online and had to return it because the harness would not connect to the head unit. What a hassle that was. Now, life is good with no problems and no unnecessary wires. I would highly recommend.

Pros: Ease of install, sound quality, ability to take calls, make calls through factory radio. No wiring to phone.

Cons: No text display on head unit but a small sacrifice for ease of use and new freedom you have with the unit

Works with 2006 Honda Pilot and PA15-HON2

Written By Pilot06-Accord01, Antioch, CA on Friday, August 03, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Added USA-Spec BT35-HON and PA15-HON2 to XM ready factory radio on 2006 Honda Pilot w/o nav. Radio trim panel removal was straightforward, but to install BT35-HON mic over the rear-view mirror, I had to remove the A-pillar panel, which was challenging. To remove A-pillar panel, first remove door weather stripping, then pull hard to remove A-pillar panel. There are 2 clips in the A-pillar panel, expect to break the the top clip of the A-pillar panel, so buy one beforehand (although, once you push back the weather stripping, the A-pillar stays in place without the top clip).

Connect the BT35-HON first. Connect CAS-H35 cable to the XM slot on factory radio and BT35-HON. Then connect CAS-H2Y cable to CAS-H35 cable and PA15-HON2. BT35-HON dip switches should all be set to off. PA15-HON2 dip switches should be 1 & 3 on and 2 & 4 off. Connect mic to BT35-HON. Connect iPOD cable to PA15-HON2 (purchase 3.5mm to 2 RCA cable separately if you want to use the aux connection).

PA15-HON2 has excellent sound quality. PA15-HON2 supports iPOD text and can be controlled with either radio or iPOD directly.

Initial pairing with Motorola Droid 2 Global phone with BT35-HON took a few tries, then it was smooth. BT35-HON does NOT support text, there is NO caller ID. The BT35-HON rings over the factory radio and announces the phone number. Calls can be answered with the radio or phone. Outgoing calls must be made with phone. Excellent call and bluetooth audio streaming quality.

Pros: Decent price. Good sound quality. Works with PA15-HON2. Allows you to keep factory radio (you lose sub-woofer and steering wheel controls if you replace factory radio).

Cons: No text support. Outgoing calls can only be made from phone.
