USA Spec

Our take on the USA SPEC Auxiliary Interface

Enjoy maximum possible sound quality when you play your portable music through your Toyota's factory radio. USA SPEC's innovative DF-TOY adapter lets you connect your portable music player directly to your compatible 1998-up Toyota factory radio. Just plug the adapter cable into your radio's CD changer input, mount the interface box, and you're ready to listen to your tunes.

And the news gets better — if you also have another sound source you want to hook up to your Toyota's sound system, the DF-TOY provides a second set of connections for an iPod, satellite radio tuner, or DVD player. You can switch between sources with your factory radio controls. Warranty: 3 years.

Features

Compatibility: The DF-TOY allows you to add two auxiliary inputs to the factory radio in select Toyota vehicles. The adapter plugs into the factory system using the supplied cables, avoiding wire splicing and modifications. Since the adapter is controlled by the factory radio, the available controls should be described in the factory manual.

Note: The adapter is not compatible with vehicles that have factory navigation and DVD systems. The adapter takes the place of the CD changer, so you cannot have a CD changer and the adapter connected to your vehicle at the same time.

Mounting: The adapter can be secured to any flat surface using the supplied mounting screws.

Connections: The adapter has two auxiliary inputs (Audio Input 1 and 2) on the left side panel. Each input consists of left and right RCA audio jacks. On the right side panel, the adapter has a round 8-pin jack that interfaces with the supplied CDL-TY cable. The adapter end of the cable has a round 8-pin connector that plugs into the adapter. The opposite end of the cable has a rectangular 12-pin (11 pins present) female connector that plugs into the back of the factory radio. For some newer model vehicles, you will need to plug the CAS-TA cable into the factory radio and then connect the CDL-TY cable to the CAS-TA cable.

Great Product

Written By Eric, Long Island, NY on Wednesday, February 01, 2006

I installed this in my 2004 Corolla for use with my XM Myfi receiver. The installation was quite easy; the hardest part was hiding the wires. I also needed a ground loop isolator, which I installed between the Myfi and the interface. It turns out, when the Myfi was hooked up to the car power adapter, I experienced a very high pitched hum. With the isolator installed, the noise is gone. The second set of inputs on the interface is used for my wife's ipod Nano. The audio quality from both sources is excellent, and this device really is a great improvement over the built-in FM modulator of the Myfi.

USA Spec for a 2005 Toyota Tacoma Double cab

Written By Ryan, PA on Tuesday, March 07, 2006

I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma Double cab without JBL audio sound. It has the 6 disc in dash changer and this product works great. I mounted the unit on top of the facory deck bolted to the top case cover- in the center biased twards the rear. it took some more dash diss-assembly but I could not find a good place to mount the USA spec unit.
The XM going into the unit sounds great and I still have use of my 6-disc factory cd changer and AM/FM radio with stering wheel controls. Like all other reviews you have to turn the volume up on the XM or Ipod for it be heard.
Installation was a snap only finding a good spot to mount the usa spec adapter was a hard one to do.

The auxillary interface was easy to install, taking me less than 10 minutes to professionally mount it behind the head unit in my 2000 Camry. The wires matched up perfectly with the connectors on my head unit, and after maxing out the volume level on my Roady 2 (XM Radio), and turning up the volume just slightly on my Camry's head unit, I had CD quality XM Satellite Radio coming from my speakers. The sound that this direct connection provides is just so much more clear and vibrant, and I no longer have to worry about FM interference ruining my favorite song (this is even more important when traveling between cities where unused FM frequencies change quite often).

USA Spec Adaptor Works Great!

Installed in my 1998 Toyota Avalon without a hitch. Unplugged the cassette deck (like I need that) and plugged the adaptor into the back of the CD/radio head unit. The cord was just long enough to run it under the shifter center console into the storage compartment where I mounted it. Took me about four hours but looks very custom with no wires hanging. I place my Archos Gmini 402 portable multimedia center in the storage compartment and plug it into the USA SPEC adaptor. I use a right angle Monster cable so as not to place stress on the jack exiting the MP3 player.

Worked great in my 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The XM radio SkyFi2 sounds so good! Also some people said that the the volume was lower. on my SkyFi2 in the menu/set ups there is an audio level. I booseted it up and now WOW!. I put the same xm in my other car with a pioneer unit and have to use the cassette or the FM. Yuck, sounds like crap compared to the Aux Interface. My steering wheel controls work great still by the way. That is one of the reasons I purchased it. I wanted to keep those.

Perfect

Written By Joel, Chicago, IL on Monday, June 05, 2006

I have the built-in Toyota 6CD changer, and it still works after plugging in this part. Simply hit the 'Disc' button to go to CD (the changer), then hit it again to go to CD1 (the aux input). Volume is great, and the sound is CD quality when using my iPod. I was able to drop the wire into the compartment below the gear shift in a my 2006 Matrix, so the module is out of sight but easy to reach. Installation took about 30 minutes.

Exceptional piece of equipment. I did not know there was such a product available on the market until I came to Crutchfield. Don't even think about buying an FM transmitter (which by the way costs more). The sound quality on the Auxillary Interface is excellent. The FM transmitter will not even come close and you don't have to worry about interference. Installation was also very easy because of the instructions provided by Crutchfield. I am a bit leery about online reviews about products, but in this case take my word for it, this is an excellent buy.

Fantastic!!

Written By Tom, Belmont, CA on Tuesday, May 02, 2006

I have a 2005 Toyota 4Runner and have tried both cassette adapter and FM transmitter for my MP3 player (Creative Zen 30GB). I am blown away with how well this adapter works - truly CD quality - no trade-off whatsoever. Despite reading reviews that said it was a 10-minute install, it took me about 1.5 hours, but it was not difficult, just a little tedious (plus I took time figuring exactly where I wanted to route the wires). As a complete music fanatic who spends a ton of time driving (40,000 miles in the last year), this really is the best $70 I've ever spent. If you have any doubts about this, trust the hype!

2005 Tacoma with JBL 6-disc changer

Crutchfield Customer Review

The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order.

For Toyota owners with the JBL 6-disc changer, you CAN use the AM/FM radio, the CD player (all 6 discs), plus a satellite radio AND an MP3 player - all with the steering wheel mounted controls! Pretty fantastic! It's a snap to remove the ventilation controls (provided you have an interior panel tool) and the factory radio comes out with 4 bolts. An easy 30-minute job. The factory radio from my 2005 Tacoma had an additional empty plug in the back, so I was able to use the aux interface cable in that spot. I think both the Crutchfield site and the USA SPEC papework state that you CANNOT use the 6-disc changer after this install - not true (at least in my case). Great product! The volume is low with the XM radio, but that's not the aux interface's fault.

Easy install 01Toyota Tacoma prerunner

Written By big kitchens, Prattville Alabama 01Toyota Tacoma prerunner on Thursday, April 06, 2006

I have a i pod and a roady xt.I have been using a tape adapter for my i pod for about a year now. I finally got xm radio a month ago and decided to buy this product. wow! It meets and exceeds my expectations. The ipod sounds as good as my cd player. I will warn anybody with a 01 tacoma make sure when removing the dash trim to get the radio out, that you 1st remove the air conditionar control cover. You will find two hidden screws underneath the cover.I almost broke the trim trying to get it off.
I used two belkin mini y connectors to hook up the ipod and xm. You can not beat the price at $5.00 each, and thinner than the monster cable.
