USA Spec

Our take on the USA SPEC Auxiliary Interface

Enjoy maximum possible sound quality when you play your portable music through your Toyota's factory radio. USA SPEC's innovative DF-TOY adapter lets you connect your portable music player directly to your compatible 1998-up Toyota factory radio. Just plug the adapter cable into your radio's CD changer input, mount the interface box, and you're ready to listen to your tunes.

And the news gets better — if you also have another sound source you want to hook up to your Toyota's sound system, the DF-TOY provides a second set of connections for an iPod, satellite radio tuner, or DVD player. You can switch between sources with your factory radio controls. Warranty: 3 years.

Features

Compatibility: The DF-TOY allows you to add two auxiliary inputs to the factory radio in select Toyota vehicles. The adapter plugs into the factory system using the supplied cables, avoiding wire splicing and modifications. Since the adapter is controlled by the factory radio, the available controls should be described in the factory manual.

Note: The adapter is not compatible with vehicles that have factory navigation and DVD systems. The adapter takes the place of the CD changer, so you cannot have a CD changer and the adapter connected to your vehicle at the same time.

Mounting: The adapter can be secured to any flat surface using the supplied mounting screws.

Connections: The adapter has two auxiliary inputs (Audio Input 1 and 2) on the left side panel. Each input consists of left and right RCA audio jacks. On the right side panel, the adapter has a round 8-pin jack that interfaces with the supplied CDL-TY cable. The adapter end of the cable has a round 8-pin connector that plugs into the adapter. The opposite end of the cable has a rectangular 12-pin (11 pins present) female connector that plugs into the back of the factory radio. For some newer model vehicles, you will need to plug the CAS-TA cable into the factory radio and then connect the CDL-TY cable to the CAS-TA cable.

Great!!

Written By drjenki, Chicago, IL on Saturday, July 28, 2007

Grabbed this little guy about a week ago and just installed it. Crutchfield sent a very nice instruction set specifically for my '01 Camry and that made the install that much quicker. In about 15min's it was installed and 15min later it was tucked away neatly with easy access to the inputs wheneven I need to make a change. Quality is what your source is but the XM sounds pretty good, better than my cassette adapter did and much cleaner to look at. If your considering an external audio source for your Toyota then go for this. It's easy to install and makes life a little cleaner and easier when using external audio devices.

Love it

Written By Sean, Fresno, CA on Tuesday, June 19, 2007

Having purchased at 2006 Toyota Tundra and having Sirius sat radio, I did not want to replace my manufacture radio. Purchasing the USA spec was a great choice as the sound quality dramatically increased. I am very satisifed and am pleased at the customer service and quality of product that Cruchfield provided.

The directions included were easy to follow even for someone techincally challenged like me. It only took me about an hour to install, primarily because I spent time hiding my Sirius reciever wires behind the radio.

I highly reccomend this product.

15 minute install

Written By Duncan, San AntonioTexas on Thursday, June 14, 2007

It took longer trying to figure where the cable went into the back of the radio than it took to take apart and put together everything! Crutchfields instructions are first class, USA SPEC could learn as theirs are somewhat vague to say the least. I can see where others have had problems.
The steering column controls work like a charm. I would have been upset if I had lost them!

Toyota Tundra '04

Written By Jeff, CA on Thursday, May 31, 2007

I installed this on my Tundra yesterday. Took me about an hour. I was a little afraid to "pry" the dash unit off once the screws had been removed, but a little gentle work with a screwdriver did the trick. Start at the top and work your way around (like removing a bike tire).

The kit plugged directly into the back of the factory JBL 6 disk. I ran the cable into the glove box where the unit is located, and then a headphone to RCA cord back through the dash down to the ash tray. Just pop it out and feed it through a gap on the right front side. Then just pop the tray back in. Voila... totally Pro!!

By doing this, I can store the cord inside the ash tray when not in use (Totally hidden from view) and the cord just disapears into the dash without having to drill any holes. The ash tray can still close with the cord in use as well.

As stated in previous posts, no lost disk slots. Just press CD again to toggle between the Aux and disks. Steering wheel controls still work as well.

USA SPEC Auxiliary Interface

Written By Matt, Keizer, OR on Wednesday, May 23, 2007

I installed this on my 2007 Toyota Tacoma. I replaced the FM modulator with this direct connection. The sound is much better, near CD quality. I definitely recommend this product for any applicable installation.

This purchase from Crutchfield was easy. I will make my next electronics purchase from Crutchfield.

Woks great

Written By stumpjumper, Albuquerque, NM on Tuesday, May 08, 2007

Bought this unit for my 2001 Honda Odyssey. Followed the Crutchfield directions and had it in in no time. Works just as advertised and sounds great. While messing with the cables during installation, I did run into a problem where the radio stopped recognizing the aux. interface. I pulled and put back in the fuse to the radio and that solved the problem.

Works great with ipod, not so great with roady xt

Written By Chilichad, Watertown, SD on Tuesday, May 01, 2007

By reading all the positive reviews I new this would work great with my 2005 Tacoma W/ JBL system.. The installation instructions were a piece of cake. I was done in 25 minutes.. I used the monster cable for both inputs for which I use a mini ipod and a xm roady xt. The ipod sound was crisp and clear. The roady xt really had a loud hissing sound that could not be fixed. Sounded better through FM transmitter. I do believe its a roady xt issue. Tried my old roady 2 and the hissing was gone. Luckily I live where there is no bleed over through the fm transmitter. Overall happy with the product...

A Few Answers For Highlander Owners w/ JBL Changer

Written By Don, Lincoln, NE on Sunday, April 22, 2007

I spent quite a bit of time reading the other reviews on both this product, and the USA Spec iPod adapters. There seemed to be a bit of confusion as to what to expect with the six-disc in dash factory JBL system (non-navigation). That is what is in my 2005 Highlander, and it carries the model number "A56382" in small gold letters near the top of the units face - in case this one comes in other Toyotas. The USA Spec Auxiliary Interface comes with a harness that plugs directly into the back of this radio, and fits perfect - nothing to unplug, just an unused square socket, ready for the plug! That harness then plugs into a longer cable that you can run where you like to mount the small box. In this application, there is another plug on the small harness that is not used, and there is plenty of room behind the radio for this other spare plug. I used a cable tie to gather things up a bit, and prevent it from rattling. I then mounted the box with double stick tape under the console, and added a 3 foot RCA to mini-jack cable. Very tidy, and completly hidden. The unit performs fine, and sound quality is as good as playing a CD. The volume level seems comparable, nothing at all like an FM modulator. The steering wheel volume controls work. I was under the impression from some reviews that you would lose one of your cds, that is, CD number six on the changer would now be the iPod, but that is not the case. You hit the "Disc" button, and it says "CD1", and that is the iPod. You hit the disc button again, and the "CD1" changes to "CD", and you are back with your regular changer. It's totally slick, and priced right!

Works Very Well...But Not w/ Roady XT

Written By Nick, Houston, TX on Tuesday, April 17, 2007

I just got this today, read three DIY your articles on how to remove the head unit and got this installed in my 2006 Tacoma Double Cab w/ non-JBL 6 Disc Changer (yes, it worked fine, the radio will say "Disc 1" when it is in aux mode, press disc again and it goes back to the sixth disc) When removing the climate control, be careful if you pry it back w/ a screwdriver b/c there is some clear plastic back there that just snapped and broke apart when I did that, but it didn't seem to be crucial as everything works fine. One thing I wanted to say was that with the Roady XT wired into this there was a lot of hissing noise. I went and grabbed my old Roady 2, plugged that in and the hissing noise was gone and the audio was 10x clearer. So be warned if you're trying to use a Roady XT, I think it has something to do with the base all the wires plug into, must be causing some noise/distortion. I also plugged my PSP in and it sounded fine although the bass didn't come through as loud or thumping as w/ a cd, but perhaps b/c the PSP doesn't have eq options. This is a good product and super easy to install!!
