About the USA Spec iPod® Interface for Nissan

Zak Billmeier
You can take it with you. Just because you've got a factory radio in your Nissan or Infiniti, doesn't mean you have to leave your iPod (and the hours and hours of music it contains) at home. Just install USA Spec's iPod interface — it not only allows you to listen to all your favorite tunes through your car's speakers, it even lets you control song and playlist selections right from your radio. And with your iPhone® connected, you can even stream music from popular Internet services like PANDORA®, Livio Radio, iHeartRadio, and more. Plus you'll still be able to connect a CD changer or a satellite radio tuner.

Plus you'll still be able to connect a CD changer or a satellite radio tuner.

Just mount the compact interface box in a hidden location in your vehicle, and connect the adapter cable to the CD changer input on your compatible Nissan or Infiniti factory radio. Plug your iPod into the interface — you can control volume, source, song selection, and up to five different playlists right from the radio. And the interface charges your iPod while it's connected. You even get an auxiliary input for connecting a Dock & Play satellite radio, MP3 player, or other external source.

Please enter your vehicle information or call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to find out if this adapter is compatible with your vehicle.

Compatibility Note: If you have a newer iPod/iPhone device with a Lightning connector, then you will also need Apple's Lightning to 30-pin adapter. Be sure to check "Hands-on Research" for specific iPod model compatibility with this iPod adapter.

Features

Overview: The USA SPEC PA15-NIS interface connects a compatible iPod to select Infiniti and Nissan audio systems. Its on-board software translates commands from your factory radio's CD-changer or Satellite Radio controls into commands the iPod understands. This interface enables the iPod to coexist with your factory system and provides a line-level input to your audio system for optimal sound quality.

Vehicle Compatibility: This interface enables your iPod to co-exist with the factory CD changer and Satellite Radio receiver of many Infiniti and Nissan vehicles; please check the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm compatibility. Please consult the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to see if your vehicle is compatible.

iPod Compatibility: The PA15-NIS is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible and supports the following iPod/iPhone model features when connected to a compatible Nissan or Infiniti factory radio (as of 3/4/2015):

Notes:

  • *Requires Apple Lightning to 30-pin Adapter (sold separately).
  • Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.

Dual Control Modes: There are three modes of controlling your iPod: Direct Mode, Playlist Mode, and Folder Mode. Depending upon your factory radio you will need to configure the interface (using the DIP switches) to a combination of the Direct Mode, plus either the Playlist Mode or Folder Mode:

  • Direct Mode: Search and select music on your iPod just as you would normally. You can also use the track up/down button on the radio and steering wheel to control. Screen and click wheel are unlocked and fully functional. There is no text display on the radio while in Direct Mode.
  • Playlist Mode: In this mode, you can operate and control the iPod like it's a CD changer. You can access five playlists on the iPod from the radio. The iPod keypad is locked and not functional.
  • Folder Mode: You can access three folders (Playlist, Artist, and Album) on your iPod from your factory radio. You can also perform search by artist, album, or playlist. The SAT presets are associated with different folders (Playlist, Artist, Album, All Songs, and Genres).

App Streaming (in Direct Mode): Direct mode also lets you listen to the sound from your iPhone's downloaded music apps (such as Pandora, iHeart Radio, SiriusXM, etc.) through your factory head unit & speakers. You will continue to control your iPhone's apps & view song/artist information from its touchscreen.

Note: Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need applicable music service accounts.

iPod Text: The Artist name and song title text can be displayed on the radio when using the Folder control mode.

iPod Charging: The iPod's internal battery is charged whenever it's connected to the PA15-NIS; charging stops automatically 30 minutes after the ignition is turned off or the iPod is paused.

Auxiliary Input: In addition to the iPod input on the PA15-NIS there is an auxiliary input (RCA) for use with another source, such as a DVD system, satellite radio, etc. This aux input can be used with or without the iPod connected.

Q
A few months after installation, the ipod cable started going out. Music only comes from the left speakers now. I tested the speakers. They work fine. I also tried other ipod devices. Same result. The ipod cable is at fault as the sound goes in and out when wiggleing the cable. How can I get a replacement cable?

Q
Does this only plug into the SAT radio port on the back of the factory radio? Or can I give up my CD player instead? I would like to keep my factory SAT radio and give up the use of the CD player.
lori  Jun 05, 2014

A
Lori, I am not sure about the SAT radio. I used to hook up my iPod. To do this I had to give up he use of the CD player/changer. I do not have a SAT Radio. Seems like you would have to give up the use of one or the other (SAT Radio or CD Player) to make this work. Sorry I can't be of more assistance. Jim

Q
will this work with my Samsung Galllixy S4 phone?
charlie  May 11, 2014
9 answers
A
Yes if you use a RCA cable with the aux jack and use the headphone output of the phone
joe  May 15, 2014
A
Hi Charlie, yes it will work for audio functions, but you can't control your Samsung from your car stereo, only direct from the Samsung device
mario  May 13, 2014
A
Yes but you will have to buy a separate cable. It only cost a couple bucks and it will work with any phone. It will not charge it though.
j ulysses  May 12, 2014

I don't think so... But it could with an adaptor It comes with a 30 pin iPhone. Cord. And it works with my iPhone 5 perfect. Best wishes! I do love this kit!
ronald  May 12, 2014
A
No, will only work directly with Iphone's with 30 pin connector (up to iPhone 4s). It will work with a iPhone with Lightning connector if you get the Apple 30 pin to Lightning adapter. This unit is only designed to work with Apple phones, no others
john  May 12, 2014
A
Yes it will. When installing it let's you have 2 input methods ie ipad adapter and 3.5mm jack. With the 3.5mm jack you can easily plug in your phone for media playback.
eddie  May 12, 2014
A
Yes, but...you will use the audio cord to connect. The control cable that links power and iPhone controls is only for Apple products. So you can play songs thru the radio by plugging into the headphone jack but you'll have to control from the phone. Also, it won't charge. I've tested the audio feed and it works great! Good luck.
andy  May 12, 2014
A
It will only work if you add the additional aux output to the system
stephon  May 12, 2014
A
I don't think so. The plug on it is designed for an older iPod/iPhone, it's the long narrow iPod plug.
