Features
Overview:
The Model Three is a small, tabletop AM/FM clock radio. It's easy to use and
within its design limits provides very good sound. The rotary analog tuning knob
offers the ability to fine tune radio stations. The Model Three uses many of the
designs and tuner technologies created by Henry Kloss, legendary inventor and
audio designer, and co-founder of Acoustic Research, KLH, and Cambridge
Soundworks.
Cabinet:
The Model Three's cabinet is made with real cherry wood, with a dark brown metal
speaker grille and a dark gray face plate.
Analog Clock: The
analog clock's fine quartz mechanical movement provides accurate time keeping
and compliments the analog tuning dial. The clock face is lit by a single LED for nighttime viewing. The clock is separately powered by a
"AA" battery (supplied), and in the event of a power failure, will
continue to maintain the clock's operation and sound the wake-up tone if the
alarm button is in the On position.
Alarm: The
Model Three's alarm can be set by rotating the clock's bezel counter-clockwise
to the desired wake-up time. You can wake up to the radio or the alarm tone,
whichever you desire. If there is a power failure at the wake-up time, the alarm
will sound the wake-up tone instead of turning on the radio. Note: Due to
the nature of the alarm thumbwheel's analog mechanism, the alarm may sound with
up to a five-minute deviation (plus or minus) from the desired wake-up time.
Snooze: The
Model Three includes a snooze button on the top of the unit. When the alarm
sounds, the snooze feature will silence the alarm for approximately 5 minutes,
after which the alarm sound will automatically resume.
Sleep Timer: If
you wish to fall asleep to the radio, you can use the Model Three's 20-minute
sleep timer.
Speaker: The
Model Three features a single 3" full-range driver on the top of the unit.
A companion right-channel speaker (sold separately) can be connected and the
unit can be switched to stereo operation. The rear-mounted balance control
should be kept in the "left" position until the companion speaker is
connected.
FM Tuner:
The Model Three uses a discrete-component FM tuner with GaAs MES-FET mixers to
provide better reception with increased clarity on closely-spaced local and
far-away stations. To take full advantage of the FM tuner's
high sensitivity and selectivity, the Model Three uses a precise analog tuning
system with a 5:1 ratio tuning dial for accurate, easy selection of the maximum
number of stations.
Antenna: The
Model Three has a built-in antenna for both AM and FM reception. To improve FM
reception, you can use the threaded FM coaxial antenna input for connecting the
supplied FM wire antenna or other optional antenna. Note: A rear-panel
switch allows you to switch between internal and external FM antennae. The
switch does not affect AM reception.
Tuning
Indicator: This front-panel LED glows
bright amber when the best tuning has been achieved. Some listenable AM stations
will not light the tuning indicator and should be tuned by ear for the clearest
signal.
Auxiliary
Input: The Model Three has an input for
connecting the Tivoli Model CD (item #582MCDTPE) or other audio device. The
rear-mounted jack will accept a 1/8" stereo mini-plug. The unit's source
knob allows you to select AM, FM, or Aux.
Mix In:
You can connect your computer or another source's audio output to this stereo
input to hear audio mixed-in with either the tuner or auxiliary device if
connected. The volume level of this input must be adjusted at the source. The
jack accepts a 1/8" male stereo mini plug.
Headphone
Output: To listen privately, you can
connect stereo headphones to the Model Three's stereo mini-jack headphone
output, located on the rear panel. The headphone volume is controlled by the
unit's volume control, and the speaker is muted when headphones are plugged
in.
Record Output: You
may record from the Model Three by connecting a recording device to this
fixed-level, 1/8" female stereo mini-jack. You may also use the Model Three
as an AM/FM tuner by connecting a receiver or integrated amplifier's line input
to this output. The Model Three's speaker will not be muted when using this
output.
Subwoofer Output: You
can enhance the bass by connecting Tivoli Audio's Model Subwoofer (item
#582SUBC) to the Model Three's mini-jack subwoofer output.
12 Volt DC Operation: There
is a 12-Volt jack on the back (12-16VDC, tip positive) for plugging in the
supplied AC adapter, or for a separate DC power supply (not included) for
portable use of the unit in cars, campers, etc.
