It's the world's first satellite table radio. Tivoli Audio's elegantly simple Model Satellite offers the same features and performance as their popular Model One, but adds the incredible programming options and sound quality of SIRIUS Satellite Radio.

The Model Satellite comes with everything you need to enjoy SIRIUS programming at home, including a compatible antenna. Just activate your subscription, and you're ready to go. You get convenient front-panel controls plus a remote for changing satellite channels. A 6-line fluorescent display shows SIRIUS programming info. You can save the artist and title information for up to 20 songs, set up to 20 SIRIUS station presets — even block certain channels for worry-free family listening.

The powerful AM and FM tuners can pull in even weak signals, and the large analog dial is geared down to a 5:1 ratio for more precise control. The 3" mono speaker handles highs, mids, and lows with ease. The crisp, rich sound has to be heard to be believed — and you can connect a Model Subwoofer to make it even deeper and fuller. Encased in a cherry wood cabinet, the Model Satellite adds an elegant look to any décor.

Features

Product Overview: The Tivoli Audio Model Satellite combines the popular Model One AM/FM table radio with a Sirius Satellite Radio tuner. The small tabletop radio is housed in a finely-crafted, furniture-grade Cherry wood cabinet, with a taupe metallic faceplate and champagne-colored knobs. It includes a wireless remote control for Sirius Satellite tuning purposes only.

AM/FM Radio: The Model Satellite is equipped with the same award-winning, Henry Kloss-designed analog AM/FM tuner as the Model One, Two and Three radios. The tuner features a very high sensitivity, allowing you to tune in more and weaker stations than many other tuners and receivers. The analog tuner uses a geared-down tuning dial for accurate, easy selection of the maximum number of stations.

Sirius Satellite Radio: Sirius Satellite Radio features more than 120 channels of programming beamed coast-to-coast, including 65 channels of commercial-free, digital-quality music, and news, talk, sports, entertainment, and children's programming.

Note: Satellite radio service is available only within the continental United States. Service is not available in Alaska and Hawaii.

Display: The large, bright, blue-on-black LCD display (2-5/8" x 1-3/8") is easy to read, and provides clear and easy navigation through the Sirius Satellite channels and menus. You can manually adjust the brightness and contrast of the display in the menu, or activate the "Auto Brightness" feature which sets the display brightness based on ambient light. Note: As long as the unit is connected to a power source, the display is always on. When the unit is turned off, the analog or digital clock will be displayed.

Mono/Stereo: Since the radio only has one speaker, its output is mono. For stereo operation, you can connect Tivoli Audio's companion stereo speaker to the back of the radio and move the Mono/Stereo switch to the Stereo position. The left-right balance can be adjusted with the rear panel rotary balance knob.

Internal/External FM Antenna: A rear-mounted Internal/External FM antenna switch allows you to choose between the built-in antenna or a connected external antenna. The unit includes an external AM antenna. The switch has no affect on AM reception.

Auxiliary Input: The Model Satellite is equipped with a rear-mounted 3.5mm minijack for connecting another audio device, such as a portable CD player, TV, computer, or MP3 player.

Mix Input: In addition to the Aux Input, the unit features a rear-mounted 3.5mm minijack that lets you connect your computer's (or other device) audio output to this stereo input to hear audio mixed in with Sirius radio, AM, FM, or Auxiliary audio. The volume for the mixed source must be controlled at the connected device.

Speaker: This unit uses a top-mounted, heavy-magnet, 3", long-throw full-range speaker in a ported enclosure design (the port opening is on the back of the unit).

Headphone Output: For private listening, you can connect a pair of headphones to the 3.5mm stereo headphone jack on the rear panel. When headphones are plugged into the jack, the external speaker is muted.

12-Volt Input: The unit has a power jack on the back which allows you to use the supplied AC adapter or a separate 12 Volt DC/3 Amp fused power supply (not included) for portable use of the unit in cars, campers, etc.

Sirius Satellite Features

Service Activation: In order to receive Sirius Satellite programming, you must activate your subscription by contacting Sirius by phone or by logging on to the Sirius website. The AM/FM radio will operate without activating the Sirius service. The clock and alarm functions will also operate without the Sirius subscription, as long as the satellite signals are received through the supplied antenna.

Sirius Reception: The supplied Sirius antenna should be placed in a location that allows it to receive the best signal possible from the orbiting Sirius satellites. For mounting flexibility, the antenna can be placed indoors or outdoors on a horizontal or vertical surface. In some large metropolitan areas, the Sirius signal can be received from terrestrial repeaters, allowing you to mount the antenna indoors. The menu includes signal strength meters for both satellite and terrestrial sources.

Tuning Modes: This unit gives you several ways to tune to your favorite Sirius channels:

  • Category: Scroll through each of the categories (Pop, Rock, Country, Hip-Hop, R&B/Urban, Electronic/Dance, Jazz/Standards, Classical, Latin & World) using the "< >" buttons on the front panel or remote control.
  • Channel: Scroll through each channel in numerical order using the Up/Down buttons on the front panel or remote control.
  • Presets: You can store and recall up to 20 channels in preset memory. You can select presets 1 through 5 in each of 4 bands: A, B, C, and D.
  • Direct Tuning (remote control only): Directly tune to a channel by entering the 3-digit channel number.
  • Artist/Song Title: While in the category mode, you can switch the display to show the artist names or titles of currently playing songs.

Channel Skip/Lock Options: You can choose to limit access to specific channels. The Skip function allows you to prevent a channel from being accessed in most tuning modes. A "skipped" channel can only be tuned by entering the channel's 3-digit number using the remote control. A "locked" channel can only be accessed by entering the channel number with the remote, followed by the 4-digit lock code.

Memory Options: You can save into memory the artist name and song title of the currently playing song, up to a total of 20. When activated, the Song Seek feature will continuously search every Sirius channel for matches to the Song/Artist information stored in memory. When a match is found, the receiver will beep, and the display will give you the option to jump to the channel where the matched song is playing. If no action is taken, the display will return to normal.

Clock: The Model Satellite can show the current time in a digital or analog clock display in the LCD panel. The unit receives its clock and month/day/year data from the Sirius satellites, and will automatically set and update itself based on the received signal, as long as the unit is connected to a power source and the antenna is receiving the satellite signals. During initial setup, you can indicate what time zone you live in, and whether your locality observes Daylight Saving Time.

Alarm Clock: The unit features a single alarm clock which can be set to wake you the last tuned Sirius Satellite channel, or AM or FM station at the currently set volume. If the Sirius channel is not available when the alarm activates, a back-up alarm tone will sound. The alarm will sound at the set time each day, unless it is deactivated in the menu. Note: The clock and alarm rely on consistent reception of the Sirius Satellite signal.

Sleep Mode: You can set the Model Satellite to automatically power off after a period of 20 minutes when you activate the Sleep Mode in the menu.

Factory Default: You can easily return all settings to the factory defaults at once in the menu.

Remote Control: The supplied remote control is only for use with the Sirius Satellite features. It will not control the AM/FM portion of the Model Satellite (with the exception of power on/off). The remote has a 0-9 keypad, plus Up/Down/Left/Right/Enter buttons for navigating the menu and changing channels and categories. You can also access the menu, change the display options, activate the Memo function, select the preset band and preset number, and mute. The dimensions are: Length=3.923", Width=1.835", Depth=0.27".

Very Nice Radio, A Little Quirky

Written By Jim, Middletown, NY on Saturday, July 28, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pros

- Just as handsome and compact as it looks in the picture, and display is very attractive and easy to read.

- The controls for making your way through channels/genres, setting presets, etc. are pretty easy and intuitive.

- The sound is much better than I was expecting -- terrific clarity.

Cons

- The Sirius antenna is very tempermental.

- You can't control the volume or AM/FM tuning with the remote.

Summary

All told (and admitting I'm not an electronics expert), I give the radio 3.6 stars.

Sound For Its Size -- 40% -- 4.5 Stars

Functionality/Controls -- 25% -- 3.75 Stars
(at least 4.0 if you could control volume w/ remote)

Sirius Antenna -- 25% -- 1.5 Stars

Looks -- 10% -- 5 Stars

Industrial Design Setback!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had two "deal breaker" problems with this product.

Although I am in a decent signal area (My car enjoys great driveway signals) and have a nearby window that faces the satellite, I could not get a usable signal from the bedroom. (I prefer to not travel to the snow-filled back yard in order to enjoy my Sirius.)

The most amazing problem was the incredibly poor graphic treatment of the dial's numbers and the labeled attachment areas in the back of the unit.

I have great eyes and don't need reading glasses, but the colors (mocha and dark grey) lacked any contrast in the teeny tiny font used to discern the dial points and control functions. Now I don't usually have to use a three "D-cell" Maglite to change stations but that was the case with this unit.

I suppose I would have kept the unit and solved the signal problem but the miserable visual interface was inexcusable for a home appliance requiring many user actions in normal use.

Luckily, I purchased it from Crutchfield with their wonderful return policy.

Oh, well, I'm still waiting for a good dedicated table model Sirius radio (that doesn't look like a '90's techno-boombox. with pre-sets for tuning.

Zzzzzz

Excellent Design & Quality

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After setting up the Tivoli radio, I was very pleased with the design and quality of the materials used. The display is easy to read and has the ability to brighten or darken automatically, depending on the ambient lighting in the room. This is my third Sirius radio (my other two, also purchased from Crutchfield, are still in use in my vehicles). I am planning on adding the optional stereo speaker. I would recommend this radio to anyone who is considering listening to Sirius in their home.

Great electronics-Poor voicing

Written By Floyd, Naples, FL on Wednesday, February 21, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased Sirius, because there is very little culture or news on broadcast radio here. I chose Sirious, because of its Met Opera channel. Since I already had a basic broadcast Tivoli radio, I had high expectations of the Tivoli Sirius radio. I found that verything was first rate, except the sound.

Instructions are clear, set-up is easy, reception is great. functions are well thought out and easy to use. BUT the voicing is very disappointing. It is not nearly as good as my basic broadcast Tivoli radio. The voicing is designed for folks who want an excess of bass, and who don't care about clarity and definition. This excessive bass is particularly annoying when listening to a male speaking voice. And there is no way to adjust the bass and treble to overcome this poor voicing.

I connected the headphone output to the input of a $90 JBL On Stage loudspeaker dock for an iPod, and got a much better sound, with a better balance of bass and treble.

My three star rating is an average of five stars for everything except the voicing and one star for the voicing. Unfortunately, no matter how good a radio's reception and signal are, they cannot overcome an unfortunate choice of voicing and a voicing format that cannot be adjusted.

Great for the office!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very pleased with this purchase! I use it in my office (fortunately I have a window that I can place the antenna nearby). I am very impressed with the sound quality, as well as the overall build quality of the radio.

Great radio!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If I were reviewing the model of this radio that has AM/FM only, I definitely would have given it 5 stars. However, the satellite portion has a couple of design defects that I find puzzeling considering the over-all quality of the design and parts used in its' construction. One is the 20 minute only sleep timer (which other reviewers have mentioned). The other is the lack of an On/Off switch for the video tube. If you decide to use the AM/FM portion only and not subscribe to satellite service for a long period of time (which I have done), since you can't turn the video image off, it remains on the screen indefinitely, even when the radio is turned off, and eventually this image gets "burned in" to the video tube and significantly degrades the video read-out should you need to use it in the future. Other than that, as I said, it is a great little radio, dramatically better in design and quality than anthing else on the market I have seen.

mostly really good

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I LOVE radio and debated for several months before signing up for Sirius. I was really sold when I saw this radio since I listen to radio before going to sleep and the Tivoli seemed to have it all - looks, sound, sleep switch AND Sirius very-friendly. It does look and sound very good - amazingly so - and has the virtue of being a little bedside radio with great sound. However (and here it loses a point for me), it has a puny 20 min sleep switch which can only be accessed from the remote and not so easily reset given grappling in the dark with an unlit remote. If you don't mind this and verytinybuttons all kind of squashed together and lack of volume on the remote, it is a wonderful radio. In fact, even with these disadvantages it is lovable. The Sirius programs are varied and most are commercial-free. Vive le radio!
(I am surprised that this great manufacturer has not addressed these problem areas).

Great little radio with big sound!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have Sirius in the car and a Sirius boombox, but wanted something with a bit more functionality for the bedroom. This little radio fits the bill nicely. It works as a clock radio and you can wake up to AM or FM or Sirius. The sound from this little unit is fantastic and the fast delivery from Crutchfield was amazing also. Highly recommended!

Very Good unit

Written By phil, Half Moon Bay, CA on Monday, May 09, 2005

I bought this unit because good old COMCAST discontinued FM Radio off their wonderful cable system. When I signed up Sirius Radio I didn't expect the quality of sound. I have McIntosh Audio Equipment at home. What I did with the Tivoli FM Table Radio is use the headphone jack output running it to my AUX connection on my Pre-amp. You can buy a Mini (Y connector in stereo) to RCA connectors. I used the Monster Cable for $30.00. The sound is very good! I'm using very high-end speakers by Legacy, which makes all the difference in the world. If you're not an audiophile, the sound is still very good! I would highly recommend this product! The guys that designed this unit use to make KLH Audio Equipment back in the mid and late 60's.

One other thing! For best Satellite Signal use the Sirius outdoor antenna makes all the difference in the world.

Great bedroom clock radio!

Written By Coleman, Boston, MA on Monday, April 04, 2005

I purchased this unit when it first came out in December and am very happy with it. Tivoli features exceptional build quality with high-end materials including furniture-grade cherry wood. Sound is very good considering the compactness of it's design. I also purchased the optional stereo speaker and powered subwoofer and have my iPod connected via its dock to the auxiliary outlet. I love the programming Sirius radio has to offer, but read somewhere that stereo separation is poor and I'd have to agree with this. I've used this unit as an additional stereo in my bedroom. My only complaint is a fixed "sleep timer" of only 20 minutes...seems like it should be infinitely adjustable up to a couple of hours.
