The ScreenPlay 4805 home theater projector is an amazingly affordable way to enjoy a bigger-than-life image that will absolutely blow you away. A single DarkChip2 enhanced DLP chip is the imaging "engine" of the 4805, and it creates the punchy, high-contrast picture that has made DLP the hottest display technology around. Images from DVD movies, TV shows, and video games really pop, even in a lighted room. The 4805's native 16:9 DLP chip is optimized for widescreen sources like DVD, and 4:3 material like regular TV and video games looks great, too.
The 4805's built-in "scaler" upconverts regular TV and video signals to match the projector's native resolution. Widescreen sources like DVD utilize the DLP chip's full 854 x 480-pixel resolution. You can count on a clean, clear picture thanks to advanced Faroudja DCDi video processing a feature usually reserved for projectors costing thousands. The scaler can even downconvert high-definition signals from a separate HDTV tuner! (Like all front projectors, the 4805 has no built-in TV tuner of any kind, but the video inputs will accept signals from a satellite receiver or cable box, or you can use your VCR as an analog TV tuner.)
The ScreenPlay 4805 is one of our most compact projectors. For occasional "event" viewing or videogaming you can keep the projector stowed away, then set it up on a table in just a few minutes. With a twist of the manual zoom lens, you can expand the image up to 16 feet, to suit virtually any room or screen size. If you have a more permanent home theater setup in mind, you can ceiling-mount the 4805 (mounting hardware is not included, see "Accessories" above). The 4805 is small and lightweight enough (just 7.8 lbs.) to make portable home theater a reality. Bring it along to your vacation home, or loan it to your movie-loving friends.
A/V inputs include composite video, S-video, and component video, as well as a DVI-compatible digital video connection for use with HDTV tuners and even some DVD players (an optional adapter cable may be required).
In his November 2004 review, Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity reviewer Steve Smallcombe was extremely impressed: "I watched the 4805 for several weeks and never once felt the need to revert to my reference projector.... Perhaps it was the combination of excellent contrast ratio, image brightness, gamma tracking, and good D65 grayscale that made the image look so good.
...the 4805 is a remarkable achievement and an excellent value."
For optimum performance, a separate projection screen is recommended.
