If you have a TiVo Premiere DVR, you already know how smart and user-friendly their service is. The TiVo Stream expands the TiVo experience in a big way by letting you stream programs to mobile devices in your home, or wirelessly transfer shows to your portable and bring them along for viewing later. The Stream helps you get more out of your TiVo subscription without any additional monthly charges.
Here's how it works: You run an Ethernet cable from the TiVo Stream to your network router — and you need to have a wired connection between your TiVo DVR and your router, as well. With those connections in place you can then wirelessly stream live or recorded TV programs from your TiVo DVR to as many as four Apple iOS® devices. Just download the free TiVo app from the App Store and start watching your favorite shows on your iPhone®, iPad®, or iPod touch®.
Here's something even more exciting: the Stream lets you wirelessly download recorded shows straight to your tablet or smartphone for viewing later. You can transfer a 1-hour high-def show in as little as 15 minutes. It's a great way to catch up on your favorite series when you're on the road.
I recently made the decision to switch back to TiVo boxes, and have not regretted it. I did a lot of research this time around, and became curious about the TiVo Stream.. I actually do a lot of watching on my iPhone now as I try to sleep hahaha! But this previously revolved around old episodes of MST3k on YouTube or documentaries on Netflix. Well the TiVo stream is GREAT! I am now watching HD shows with NO buffering/loading... Don't know how they do it! I recently recorded the new episodes of Breaking Bad in HD, and was able to watch them in bed on my iPhone. Flawless video quality, no loading or even a single pause in video. They nailed it!
Pros: No loading. No buffering. No stuttering. Small and very easy to setup!
I purchased this hoping to be able to "stream" TiVo to my iPhone when I'm not home. I know it's my fault for not reading up on this a little more before buying, but I'm not happy with this thing.
They need to add support for streaming when away from home. This also doesn't support android yet. The way their instructions read, this could be a future feature, but I've learned with TiVo not to hold my breath. If you want to watch TiVo recording from your apple iOS device while at home, get this.
If you want to copy shows to ANY device to watch later, get their software (it can automatically download to your Windows PC and convert).
It does everything I was hoping it would do. Basically I was looking for a way to easily download Tivo recording to Ipads and this does it perfectly. Takes about 15 min. per 1 hr HD espisode.
Easy setup, easy use. Love the fact that I can stream to an iPad anywhere in the house. No longer limited to wire!
Pros: Ease of use Ease of setup
Cons: Priced sort of high for what you get.
Crutchfield was flawless as usual. As far as the stream goes, make sure that in your tivo.com account, under preferences, your DVR's have the box checked labeled "video sharing" Once this was checked and I connected to tivo service, downloaded the new settings through my DVR, everything worked fine.
Pros: Works, small, discreet. Love being able to watch everywhere my network is. ipods, ipads, iphones, I am an apple family and my family is happy.
Cons: Gets hot, very slight con, but I can hear the high pitched fan noise when my house is quiet. No 3/4G streaming, but I use my slingbox for that.
Overview: The TiVo Stream adds flexibility to your TiVo experience. The TiVo Stream is a device you add to your home network that enables you to stream or download recordings from your Premiere series DVR to your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch while on your local network. The TiVo Stream lets you stream up to four recorded shows simultaneously to four mobile devices in your home (multiple Premier DVRs may be needed). The TiVo Stream also lets you download shows to your compatible Apple device for viewing on the go. Here is what you'll need (minimum requirements):
Note: At this time, the TiVo Stream does not support Android and other mobile devices.
TiVo App: To stream or download shows from your TiVo Premiere series DVR, you'll need the latest version of the TiVo App on your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad (all running iOS 5.1 or later). If you don't already have the TiVo App, download it from the App Store and install it on your device. If you already have the TiVo App, make sure it's up to date (with no updates pending).
Watching Recorded TV: The TiVo Stream lets you watch currently or previously recorded programs from your TiVo Premier series DVR on your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad (running iOS 5.1 or later). One TiVo Premiere series DVR is capable of streaming up to three recorded shows at once to three separate Apple devices. Two TiVo Premiere series DVRs are required to stream four recorded shows simultaneously to four separate Apple devices. In addition to streaming inside the home, with TiVo Stream you can also download recordings to your iOS device in the home so that you can take them with you on the go. You can stream any TiVo recording within the home; including regular and premium content. You can transfer a 1 hour show in as little as 15 minutes. Some programs, such as premium content, may be marked as "copy once" and therefore cannot be downloaded to the mobile device.
Note: Not all programs may be transferred using the TiVo Stream due to the use of copy protection mechanisms permitted under the FCC's encoding rules. Some shows cannot be transferred due to the copy protection assigned to them by the program provider. The ability to stream multiple shows is dependent on factors including bit rate, resolution, screen size and available bandwidth.
Ethernet Connection: The TiVo Stream is fitted with a rear-panel Ethernet (RJ-45) port and comes with a 41" Ethernet cable to connect to your home network's modem/router. The unit does not offer a wireless connection.
