Maybe you've got your home theater system figured out and know which remotes control what — but chances are your other family members, houseguests, and babysitters don't. The Logitech Harmony 650 keeps things intuitively simple, so everyone in the household can operate the audio/video system.
All the great Harmony remotes we've seen over the years are based on one simple, powerful idea: you tell the remote exactly which brand and model your components are, and then it will know exactly how to make your system do what you want it to do.
Operate your system by tapping a single activity button. Touch the “Watch TV” icon, for example, and the Harmony 650 automatically assesses the status of your TV, receiver, and cable or satellite box to make sure they're all turned on with the proper settings. Your system's ready for TV viewing.
The Harmony 650's eye-catching color screen can display channel icons, letting you quickly jump to your favorite news, sports, or movie channel. It also displays quick commandsrelated to your chosen activity, for convenient access to commonly used functions. Plus, it provides on-screen help when you need it with just the touch of a button.
You can control up to eight devices with the Harmony 650 remote. The system works with over 5,000 brands and 225,000 entertainment devices, including lighting controls, game consoles, multi-room systems, and more.
To get started, just download the free MyHarmony software to your Mac or PC. Then connect the Harmony 650 to it via the provided USB cable. MyHarmony will help you program your remote by asking some simple questions about your system and how you use it. It then downloads the commands and command sequences to your Harmony 650. And you can use MyHarmony to update your remote whenever you upgrade your system with new gear.
the software from their site took several attempts to get loaded, the remote does not quite work correctly. Several attempts to fix using the software program resulted in more things being wrong - and took a while just to get it back to where it was before I attempted to fix the quirks. I've never had a universal remote that worked well with all devices, and this one is no exception. it's OK for basic operation, but you still have to keep the original remotes around for some functions.
Pros: Basically works
Cons: has some gremlins Software could use improvement
Needed help to set it up.
Pros: Works very well. Easy to use.
Cons: No good instructions to figure out how to make it work in the beginning. I asked by brother (IT guy) to help me.
I purchased this unit to help make the settings easier for my wife when she plays her karaoke setup. The concept of a single button to turn on multiple items really helped make this a simple operation. I am still trying to make one special feature function on a device which is not listed in the covered devices, but I am confident that I can make this feature work by connecting to the internet site again.
Pros: The device seems to work well; the web site was very user friendly in almost every situation. It really helps make using the entertainment system easier.
Cons: I am still having issues with one single feature when playing the Karaoke unit, although the karaoke unit is not a covered device type. If I continue to have issues, I will call their customer service but I am sure I can resolve the issue on my own.
This 650 remote is great from my bedroom. I have a Harmony One in my Living Room. I use it to control my Living Room TIVO (which is connected to my bedroom also through my Yahama receiver). It also controls the Yahama, A Microsoft Xbox 360, and a Roku 3 plus my Vizio TV. All works great together.
Pros: Easy to program.
Cons: Wish the screen was touch, because of my Harmony One, I keep pressing the screen until I remember I have to use the buttons beside it.
The 650 remote was quite easy to program through the Harmony site for the major functions (10 minutes) as i have a basic bedroom setup Pioneer Receiver, Direct TV, Sony Blue Ray and and LG HD. Basic function work great at times with IR strength. I will spend some additional time to confirm whether I can set up additional macros. Otherwise it works quite well. Great value for the money!
Pros: Basic functions work, good remote signal at times with inline obstructions. Good coverage for Directv remote functions. Button light up when operated. Great price.
Cons: Buttons are quote small and lack tactile feel.
idea of this remote is great, did not/could not work with my yamaha (or any yamaha) speaker platform i bought. big miss
Wanted to get a quality universal remote so this was recommended to me in the Harrisonburg store. I have a Samsung TV, LG Blueray, JBL Sound System, Comcast Cable and the 4th Gen Apple TV. I had the whole thing programmed and up and running in about 20 minutes. The set up was easy on my Mac and even my wife and kids have no problem operating it. Will never go back to multiple remotes or cheap universal remotes again!
Pros: Easy online set up. Common sense buttons. Mimics all the controls on the actual remotes. Lights up when you pick it up too!
Cons: While it does control the new 4th Gen Apple TV, you have to keep the original nearby if you want to use the Sri functions but everything else functions almost like the Apple remote.
This is the greatest remote. So EASY to set up. Just download the software, choose your equipment and the plug in your remote to your computer. It programs everything for you. I used MAC and it worked great!!!
Pros: Very easy to set up.
As easy as it gets as far as setup is concerned. Able to work my Samsung Smart TV no problem which is no small feat given the various functions it can do. Don't really ever look at any other brand when buying a remote as I've always had great results with Logitech.
Pros: Easy as it gets
The online software is a little clunky and slow, but not too bad once you get used to it. Remote is easy to program. Remote is a little slow to work with activity buttons because it sends each command code individually. I imagine this is a limitation of how IR works though and not an issue with the remote. Still quicker and easier than using multiple remotes. ALL of my devices were found in the device database, so that part was a breeze.
Pros: Good value for what this remote offers. Works as advertised. I am happy with the purchase. All of my equipment was in the device database. The kids like to use it.
Cons: Software is sort of clunky, but works OK.
What a great device. I fought the satellite remote too long - wish I had heard about the Harony earlier. Easy to program, great features, clear website for programming.
Pros: Easy programming, super features, Help Key solves problems. strong signal to control components, and all the needed buttons.
Cons: There isn't anything I don't like.
Easy to setup, easy to customize the standard or additional buttons to work with whatever device you choose. Had an 880, but I like that this doesn't have to sit on a base to charge and is so much better. This has eliminated the texts and calls from my wife on how to turn stuff on!
Pros: Great remote, easy setup, easy customization to do what you need the remote to do.
Setup was easy and straightforward. Remote works as advertised for my setup. Family was pleasantly surprised to only have one remote to cover our TV, DISH receiver, and Sonos speakers. The remote even has a on-button 'Help' feature that corrects issues with errant commands.
Pros: Easy setup 'Help' feature corrects issues without needing to connect the remote to your PC
Cons: Had to set up an account with Logitech to program the remote
Excellent remote control. Worked right away with ver y easy setup.
Pros: Easy setup and excellent operating tool.
For a bedroom this is perfect, easy to use, lights up at night,no need after a little use to turn on more light. Buttons have a color at night that is easy on the eyes. If you cannot use this remote then don't any others.
Pros: Easy use good for bedroom or apartment, setup is so easy I could not believe it. Took five minutes at most, follow easy instructions on web site.
I am impressed with how easy it was to program from my Mac. Sometimes, applications that download don't work well with Macs. The remote learns surprisingly well. And I'm glad -- and my wife is glad -- that we replaced 4 remotes with 1 that really works.
Pros: Price was great. When I looked at these years ago they were quite expensive. This does the job extremely well.
Cons: The numbers and letters on the remote are way too small. Even when using the internal backlighting, I need to turn on a light so I can see what I'm doing.
My system is now much more manageable, thanks to this remote. Although there is still the occasional hiccup, it has greatly reduced the time spent searching for the remote for the TV, the receiver, the Blu-Ray player, etc. I still have to use dedicated remotes for certain specific functions (like controlling my receivers second zone functions), but it is still a significant improvement to my A/V system. I highly recommend.
Pros: Works as expected most of the time. Setup is a breeze.
Thus is my second harmony remote. Previously owned a 600 that lasted about 4 years. The 650 is very similar in design. Seems to be more reliable than the previous one in getting all components to respond on first attempts.
Pros: Easy set up with my Samsung TV, Denon receiver, Sony Blue Ray and cable box.
Cons: Entire display is backlit with exception of device buttons.
Awesome device. Set up was pretty easy and I can now control my entire audio video system with 1 remote. My wife is very happy1
I purchased this because my better half had trouble using the cable remote and VBOX remotes. Now, the Harmony controls everything. When the hardware gets out of sync, the help menu/function resolves the issues. Very pleased.
Pros: Simple to program. Help function is very useful.
Cons: The remote itself is a little slippery. Tends to slide off furniture. Leave it on the table!
Not a 5 star
Pros: Wonderful in that it eliminates 5 other remotes
Cons: have to mash some of the buttons several times in order to make the thing work. Sometimes pushing one button will toss the TV screen into whatever it is you don't want. Not anywhere as nice as my Monster AVL300
The Harmony 650 was a great purchase. I was looking for a low price remote that could eliminate three others and the Harmony 650 did all this and more. I did not want to spend hundred of dollars only to drop it and have to repurchase. The Harmony was easy to set up but do your homework first and know what devices you want it to control, know there model numbers and the inputs. Also do a little research on everything the Harmony 650 can do, I was able to create a 30 second skip and a three minute skip very easily. Harmony's website is great and answered all my question and it only took about 30 minutes to have it up and working. A couple of days later I added some special thing that I never knew it could do and it was a breeze. Crutchfield had a fair price and I had some credits coming and the quick shipping is always a bonus. The final proof that its a great remote is my wife is not afraid to use it, and matter of fact, she takes it away from me!!
Pros: Ease of set up, Great features
Cons: I wish the numbers and letters on the buttons had a bigger font.
This is a great remote at a bargain price. I have been using a Harmony One for about four years for my main home entertainment system and wanted another for my less used living room set up. The Harmony One's replacement wasn't worth the price for the limited use it would receive in this set up. But the 650 does everything I need (and probably more) for about half the price. Programming took about 15 minutes and was as simple as could be. Right now it controls a Panasonic Plasma flat screen, Comcast cable box, Sony receiver and a Roku 3. Previously I was leaving the receiver on 24/7 and still needed that remote for volume. I had to use the Comcast remote for the TV and box. The Roku was added after the 6650 but without the 650 that would have been a third remote. It's the best $$ I've spent in quite a while.
Pros: Easy as sin to program, buttons are intuitive, lightweight
Cons: One minor inconvenience is having to select the Roku as a device while it's in use to select media, fast forward, etc. but then having to reselect the receiver to control the volume. (I may have messed up when I added the Roku to the remote and haven't had time to troubleshoot this issue)
I got the Harmony 650 to replace my Harmony 550 which conked out after about eight years of use. In a nut shell, the 650 is a better remote in every way than the already excellent 550 remote. It's even easier to program and has better ergonomics. However, I do miss the blue back lighting of the 550. The 650 has amber back lighting. If I could give the 650 ten stars, I would, highly recommend.
In terms of programming ease, the Harmony 650 is significantly more user friendly that my earlier version Harmony 550. The software provided prompts the user in a very logical and easily understood sequence to set up each device to be controlled by the remote. Even after the initial programming is completed, help screens are provided on the remote to resolve any remaining control issues. The design, feel, and programming of the remote are outstanding in my opinion. Thanks Logitech.
Helps to get rid of multiple remotes. Relatively easy to set up to emulate multiple remotes and control multiple devices with a single remote. Tech Support was helpful when I got stuck on one part of the setup.
This is my 3rd harmony remote. Purchased this one for the basement. Also have the 700 and the Ultimate. Only reason not giving it 5 stars is the battery is not rechargeable as the other remotes. Highly recommend for the price.
Pros: Ease of set up One remote does all Value
Cons: No rechargeable batteries
Excellent remote, love the way you hook up to your computer and input all the data to program
Pros: Ease of use
Programming between old and new is simple if you use the older software even though they say not to. Can't custom program a single button to say channel 300 only a 3. The number buttons are at the bottom of remote and hard to press and hold with one hand. Colored screen is useless, not necessary. Works but button layout in awful.
Cons: Not laid out well, unbalanced, useless features
Easy to progran, took longer to pull together all the model numbers from TV, Soundbar, satellite receiver, etc. than to actually program the remote via the PC. Every product I had was listed in the Harmony database and the steps to program were stupid easy.
Pros: Easy to program, batteries included. All my products were available in the Harmony database
Cons: Occasionally drops a function, but has a built in diagnostic that asks if something didn't work as planned and walks through the recalibration step without connecting back to the PC
Got rid all 5 remotes
Pros: Simply to set up
Cons: You go through a lot of batteries
I bought this at the suggestion on Crutchfield Tech Support, to try to resolve an issue created when I upgraded my AV Pre/Pro to a Marantz AV7701. My old processor worked with my older Marantz monoblock power amps (MA-700 and MA-500), turning the amps on when the processor was turned on, and off when the processor turned off. The new processor would only function consistently to turn off the MA-700s, but not turn them on. It would not control the MA-500s at all. I was able to get the MA-700s to work using the Harmony 650, but determined that the code required for the MA-500 was PowerToggle, which, although available as a command on the remote itself after selecting the MA-500 device, was not available in the MyHarmony software used to edit the Activity. My workaround was to use the Harmony 650 to teach an old learning remote I had around the PowerToggle command, then used this old remote to teach the Harmony 650 the PowerToggle command as a new command I called TogglePower. I was then able to Add this command to the Activity in the Customize screen, and now it successfully turns on (and off, as required) all of the power amps. I find the software to be a bit inconsistent, as in not having all the commands that were in the Harmony 650 available to add to an Activity. I also find I am unable to reorder the list of actions in an Activity, although the screen indicates you can, and the support forums indicate that you can. But it is a GREAT remote, anyway.
Pros: Very customizable; easy to program specific A/V products to the unit via a computer application; lights up automatically when picked up; keys laid out logically and easy to locate in the dark.
Cons: Software is not very intuitive; software loses communication with the remote frequently and won't sync (how this happens with a USB connection using the provided USB cable is a mystery).
The greatest critic in our family is my wife. To her it either works or it doesn't. It does. We now have one universal remote replacing seven. It it great for those who do not care like me for touched screens
Pros: Easy set up and use
Cons: Be sure you aim straight or you can get out of sync; but it is easy to correct
Easy to set up, and so far works as advertised. Was able to set up 5 devices including my old Yamaha receiver.
Pros: Works well with all devices. Good set up software on the pc.
Cons: None so far.
Received the product when promised. I have several Universal Remotes but the Harmony 650 is the MUCH easier to set up and get running. After collecting all of the device information that I wanted control, it only took 10 minutes to set up and start using on my TV and Receiver. I would purchase this product again and would recommend it to a friend.
Pros: Super easy to set up and use
Remote is easy to program and use. Also feels like a quality piece of equipment. Recommend!
Just attach the remote to your PC. Add your devices by model number. Done! The remote works seamlessly with my TV, DVD, Cablebox and Sonos Playbar.
Pros: Easy to setup.
Cons: Doesn't seem to have an option for my cable box's (Scientific Atlanta HD 8300) DVR options.
Very nice remote! Allows me to put the other 4 remotes (TV, Blue-Ray, AV Receiver, Cable Box) away. Works very well 95% of the time and allows you to "redo" the function when it doesn't. It's a WIN!
Can't beat this!
Pros: Easy programming - easy to use
Universal Remote Control: The Harmony 650 is a universal IR remote control which combines up to 8 remotes into 1 simple controller. Control your TV, cable or satellite box, DVR, Blu-ray player, sound system, and more from this one remote control.
Simple Setup: The Harmony 650 is programmed by connecting the universal remote to your laptop or desktop computer using the supplied USB cable, and downloading the MyHarmony desktop software. The MyHarmony desktop software will guide you through entering the manufacturer and model numbers of your home devices so the Harmony 650 understands how to control them. It then helps you create your Watch TV Activity (or scene) for one-button control.
Note: The Harmony database has over 270,000 electronic devices from more than 6,000 manufacturers.
System Requirements: In order to use the MyHarmony desktop software your computer will need to meet the following system requirements:
Infrared (IR): The Harmony 650 controls your devices using infrared (IR) light meaning that there must be a direct line of sight between the Harmony remote and your component's IR eye or external IR receiver. The remote has an IR transmission range of up to 50'.
Color LCD: The Harmony 650 features a 1.5" LCD with a resolution of 128 x 128 pixels and 65,000 colors. See just what you need, like icons for your favorite channels and the commands you need for the devices you're using.
Intuitive Design: Buttons are grouped by how you use them, shaped so you can feel your way around and backlit so you can navigate your home entertainment anywhere, even in the dark.
One-Touch Activity Control: The Harmony Touch uses Activity Control to give you one-touch control of your entertainment system. For example, you can use one of the Activity buttons to power on your TV, DVD player, A/V receiver, set all your inputs and even activate play without having to program time consuming macros. Once all of your equipment is "on", the buttons on the remote are also automatically configured for the appropriate operation. There are 3 activity buttons - Watch TV, Watch a Movie, & Listen to Music. You can also power off all your devices with one button press.
Note: To help keep the Harmony 650 in sync with your devices, avoid turning your television, set top box, and other devices on and off manually or by using their original remote control.
Favorite Channels: The Harmony 650 allows you to program your favorite TV, satellite, and cable stations (up to 23) into the remote's memory for easier access through its LCD screen a backlit buttons. You can even store and view station icons.
Button Customization: The Harmony 650 allows you to customize what each of the physical buttons on the remote does, and each of these customizations are unique for every Activity. For example; you may want the Channel Up button to change channels on your set top box when watching TV, but have the Channel Up button tune to different stations with Listening to Radio using your stereo.
More Controls: With the Harmony 650 universal remote control you can easily access guides, menus, and recorded programs; as well as control playback, with dedicated buttons.
Help Button: A designated help button walks you through solutions when problems arise.
Teach Function: If there's a command on your original remote that doesn't appear on the Harmony 650 remote, or doesn't work properly, you can use your original remote to teach the command to the Harmony remote.
Battery Powered: The Harmony 650 universal remote control is powered by two "AA" batteries (included).

Great reviews. I've owned a few very difficult to use/program universal remotes before - hope this one is different as the reviews say! [ CHARLES E Feb 01, 2016 ]
I've used Harmony remotes for about 8 years now. My oldest one gave up after storage in a too hot container last summer. This basic model will do much more than the original, and costs a lot less too (prices have come down a lot in 8 years)! [ James Jan 06, 2016 ]
Seems easy to use for elderly [ JOAN Jan 06, 2016 ]
from all reviews i have read this should be a very good remote. [ lamar Dec 29, 2015 ]

Sorry, but I don't have TiVo so I can't answer your question. [ TERRY Jan 19, 2016 ]
I would think so. The remote is set up on your computer with the Logitech app most devices for all major brands are listed [ EUGENE H Dec 03, 2015 ]
Yes, it will work with any smart TV. One negative thing about this remote, is that it goes through batteries very fast. [ MARK E Dec 03, 2015 ]
we did not use it for an lg tv but I will say it is an extremely fragile remote. If you have children or a tendency to leave it on the sofa and a little fall from that height dislodges prices inside and making the remote useless. It was a great remote when it worked but only lasted outside of the crutch field warranty by a few days before ours stopped working. [ ANDREW Dec 03, 2015 ]
It should. It works with my Samsung Smart TV....I see no reason why it wouldn't work with LG [ Michael Dec 03, 2015 ]
yes the device updates the codes from the internet [ WES Dec 03, 2015 ]
I don't know. But it does work with the Yamaha RX-V577 receiver. [ EILEEN Nov 29, 2015 ]
It works with my Denon receiver that is 5 years old. If you get the model number on your Bose and go to the Logitech website you can check but it should work no problem. [ Brian Nov 29, 2015 ]
All harmony remotes will control the Bose Cinemate 130 including the 650. Cheers Bob [ ROBERT D Nov 18, 2015 ]
I have not tried this, but if you do an online search for "Harmony upgrades and combinations" you will find a Harmony Support page that states "Harmony Home Hub is not currently compatible as an upgrade to existing Harmony remotes." In addition, there is a compatibility table entry on that page for the 650 which states "No" across the entries for various updates. [ RICHARD Sep 01, 2015 ]
Logitech® Harmony® 650 remote transmits IR signals only. (line of site control only) [ mark Apr 08, 2015 ]
It's IR ONLY. However many RF equipment, like my Bose home theater system, can be switched to IR. [ Andrew Apr 07, 2015 ]

Sorry, but I don't have any experience with PS3. [ TERRY Nov 23, 2014 ]
I'm not sure, You can check the Harmony database at myharmony dot com. If thes3 is listed, then yes the 650 will control it. [ ROBERT D Nov 21, 2014 ]
Hi Jeff B, I am pretty sure this remote does not work with PS3 functions. Logitech used to have a PS3 adapter, but they have discontinued it. You may still be able to get it through Crutchfield or Amazon. Hope this helps. Good luck! Ali [ Ali Nov 21, 2014 ]
Do not own a PS3, sorry [ Barry Nov 21, 2014 ]
No experience with PS3, but works surprisingly well with Apple TV and every function of my cable set-top box with DVR, significantly better than my other remotes. Very refined and smooth funtioning product, wish I had bought one years earlier. Cheers! [ MICHAEL Nov 21, 2014 ]
According to logitech, it is not directly compatible with the PS3, but they say it will work if you purchase a PS3 adapter which is sold separately. I would suggest you contact Logitech product support directly for more information. [ Arthur Nov 21, 2014 ]
I do not have a PS3 to confirm this for you. The remote works great with all of the equipment I have. Sorry I could not answer your question. [ LINDSAY Nov 21, 2014 ]
You need to purchase the adaptor for PS3. It's a separate tiny receiver that converts the remotes signals into Bluetooth that the play station can read. Crutchfield carries this as well. I bought one and it seems to work flawlessly with the PS3. I use it to watch movies mostly. It's once not having to grab the PS3 remote and make sure it's charged etc. [ samuel Nov 21, 2014 ]
I don't have a PS3, but it is my understanding that it is a bluetooth only device. Since this controller is IR only, it will not control the PS3. I noticed that there is a Harmony Playstation 3 adapter (Item #: 596PS3ADPT) that looks like it will enable the 650 to work with the PS3. Another option would be the Logitech Harmony Smart Control. The writeup says it will control the PS3. [ Stephen Nov 21, 2014 ]
No this does not support Bluetooth. [ Andrew Nov 21, 2014 ]
