Small size, big sound (pictured in red, next to golf ball for scale)
Rarely does a product live up to its name quite as well as the UE Mini BOOM. You'll get plenty of comments and double-takes from people passing by, who won't believe the massive sound pumping out of this mighty mite. The Mini BOOM measures less than 4-1/2 inches wide by about 2-1/2 inches tall, and weighs in at less than a pound. A pair of drivers and a passive radiator belt out your music, and you control it all with three big buttons.
Sure, it's small, but the Mini BOOM is pretty durable, too. With a tough rubber shell and hard metal grille, you can confidently carry it in your luggage, gym bag, or purse. Play some tunes when you're decompressing in a hotel room, hanging by the pool, or even working at the office. You can pretty much go anywhere — 10 hours of playback time with a fully charged battery means you won't be tethered to an outlet.
You don't have to hover around the Mini BOOM to keep the music going. Most Bluetooth speakers can reliably sync up to compatible smart devices within about 30 feet, but the Mini BOOM boasts up to 50 feet of Bluetooth range. Simply push the large center "multifunction" button, and you'll hear the familiar Bluetooth tone. Once the Mini BOOM appears on your Bluetooth-enabled phone, tablet, or laptop, you're connected and ready to play music. Listen to your favorite downloaded music or one of your streaming music services. Whatever audio sources you can get through your phone will play on the Mini BOOM.
Using an assist from the free downloadable UE Mini BOOM app for iOS® or Android™ devices, you can also wirelessly connect two Mini BOOMs together for stereo sound.
While it's cool that your smartphone has so many apps and music options, let's not forget its primary function — making and taking calls. The UE Mini BOOM can help here, too. Rather than having to toggle back to your phone's inferior speaker, simply hit the center button on the Mini BOOM and use it as a speakerphone. You'll be able to hear the person on the other end clearly, and the Mini BOOM's built-in microphone lets you talk back to them with ease.
There are TONS of blutooth speakers these days, many in the same size "wheelhouse" as this model. And frankly, many are probably similarly sounding. This Mini-BOOM does have a decent volume, though great relative to it's compact size. Volume control is a must, and this model has it. While you can also control volume from your source device as well, I find it indispensable (or at least preferred) to have volume controls on the speaker itself. Sometimes the speaker will be much closer to you than the source device, so that's why the speaker volume controls come in handy.
As I've read elsewhere, this speaker does tend to slide across a surface, particularly when playing music and tends to slide more as the volume increases. This will in part be affected by the smoothness of the surface the speaker sits on. The rougher the surface, the less apt the speaker is to slide, and vice versa. This can become a problem, especially if the speaker were to skate across and fall off of an edge of a higher surface location.
Pros: Reasonably good sound quality relative to it's compact size, but not a miracle worker given its speaker volume/size constraints. Compact and attractive. Auto shutoff if it senses no activity for 15 minutes (or thereabouts). Great for conversing battery power. Blutooth connectivity is easy, with quick and solid connections in my experience with it so far.
Cons: Speaker is prone to sliding across surfaces when playing music, especially at higher volumes and in conjunction with smoother surfaces. A fairly significant con in my mind. Of the two surfaces I've tried it on thus far, one of the two resulted in fairly extreme sliding behavior (say, an inch every 5 to 10 minutes, approx.).
The UE Mini BOOM is very easy to use, charge up, move around, connect/disconnect to multiple devices. Especially for the price, money well spent.
It works well doing what I need a WiFi speaker to do!
Pros: Sounds nice
Cons: While sounds nice the small size takes away from the music depth and/or bass it is able to produce.
Very deceiving. Lots of sound comes out of that little thing.
I wanted to really love the UE Mini BOOM. Size is perfect. Sound is solid. Pairing two for stereo only works with my iPhone and won't work with either computer. Regardless of device or if paired with another UE Mini BOOM, the speakers lose connection every time I play music - and require manual pairing every single time. Not worth the hassle.
Crutchfield was great about sending a return slip and suggesting other products.
Pros: Sound, Size, portability.
Cons: Manual pairing required and dropped connections every time.
The sound is fuzzy and muffled at lower volume. Good build quality and battery life. Overall, Meh!
The UE Mini Boom is a great compact portable speaker. Easy, quick connection to device; excellent battery life; good volume and sound quality relative to other compact speakers; speakerphone feature works well, too.
This little Bluetooth speaker is worth every penny. It is easy to use and has very impressive sound for its size.
Pros: Big sound, easy to use, very portable.
Really impressed with this product. Ease of use, portability, sound construction, and definite "cool" factor.
It won't blow you away, but it's significantly better than my phone speaker
Pros: Price Size Bluetooth connectivity (if that's what you call it) is easy. Obviously showing how non-tech savvy I am.
Cons: Bass is a little light, but I was looking for something priced reasonably that was better than my phone(ie didn't make me want to pull my hair out because it's so tinny). This is does not make me want to pull my hair out (meets requirements).
I bought this for my daughter as a Christmas gift. She loves music and is always playing her playlist off her phone. With the mini boom she can connect quickly and enjoy her playlist louder with a more surround crisp sound quality. The fact that there is no wires is great! Her cousin got a JBL Speaker and compared side by side the mini BOOM has an overall better sound! We love everything about the Mini BOOM!
Pros: Small and portable. Very sturdy. Crutchfield has a great satisfaction garunteed commitment. I ordered mine and it was out of stock they did not charge me until it was available. I didn't have to do a thing they emailed me that it would be in its way and I had it ASAP.
Cons: The colors are hard to find. I irigionally wanted the Orange and gray but it must be very popular.
Love the fact that this unit is so compact, yet has the ability to pair with another unit for double the sound. This unit is loud and clear however, it could use more bass. The only drawback is the unit will move around a bit and fall right off an elevated surface so secure it againt a wall, etc.
Pros: Loud, small, can be paired with another unit, and has a long battery life.
Cons: Could use more bass and the unit moves around a bit.
A fantastic find. Perfect to listen to my music from my Ipad.
Pros: Great sound, very portable, great look and design.
Cons: Have not found any yet.
I purchased 2 so I could do the stereo thing. I downloaded the UE Mini Boom app and saw many reviews about how in stereo mode the sound cuts out every 10-15 seconds. I was hoping I might not have that problem, but sure enough I do. I have only had them playing for 15 minutes or so, but sure enough listening in stereo mode using the Android app (HTC One M8) and the sound cuts out every 10 seconds or so. The speakers themselves sound pretty good for the size, and I would be super happy if not for this. If you are going to buy just one I am thinking you will be fine, but anyone hoping to use the 2 speaker stereo option steer clear, it basically does not work.
Pros: Small size decent sound
Cons: During 2 speaker stereo use sound cuts out incessantly
I wanted a player that was small and still sounded good. The UE Boom delivers. The audio quality is great and low end response is pretty good considering its size. I tried many other units including the bose soundlink (no way as clear), sony srx-3 (sound ok, low end not as good), jbl flip2 ( pretty good sound, low end not as good). For the price its a home run. The only other unit I would have considering was the soundfreq, but I choose the UE since it was almost half the price.
Pros: Audio quality. Size. Battery life. Ease of use
Cons: Wish there was a way to skip songs from the unit.
This little guy is a serious powerhouse. Great sound, simple to use, great range, holds a long charge, a must have for music lovers! I hooked this up to my laptop too for watching movies, way better than my crummy computer speakers!
Pros: Great quality sound, super portable, easy to sync
Cons: none so far after a few weeks!
These are solid little speakers that put out a very balanced sound. I have purchased several of these for my kids and they put them through the wringer and just keep on going. Can't have enough music in the house!
Pros: Good sounds; robust
Cons: None really
The mini boom did have good sound, but it was not convenient. Each time you use it you have to reconnect to your device, it's not automatic. It didn't sync well w the iPad so the sound was off when watching shows, and it dropped the connection randomly for no reason from a phone and computer, even when recently charged up. I'm returning it. Crutchfield was awesome RE the return process!
Pros: Good sound Small
Cons: Dropped connection Not synced w shows Connection process cumbersome each time
I am very satisfied with my UE Mini Boom. It was very easy to set up and the sound is terrific!
Pros: Easy to set up, great sound, and the price is right. I had some questions prior to ordering, and the people at Crutchfield were great with all their help. Very good company to deal with.
Small speaker packs a big punch!
Pros: Can pair up a second one
Can't believe a little speaker like this can produce a loud sound and for along time

Can you charge your phone on it [ paula Dec 02, 2014 ]
If you have an audio jack output you should be able. [ Tom Aug 23, 2014 ]
Sorry, but I do not know. This was the first UE Boom that I purchased. I use it standalone in my car for music and hands-free phone (car is 15 yrs old without Bluetooth). Sound is very nice, and the UE Boom mini is a great small package in size and good price. [ William Aug 14, 2014 ]
Not sure here.....I know I love my Mini-Boom....great sound. [ Leo Aug 14, 2014 ]
yes [ ROSELIO Aug 14, 2014 ]
Yes, you can charge this speaker just like you can a cell phone from a 12v source in vehicles or on some portable power sources. [ Feng chan Apr 17, 2015 ]
You absolutely can. It charges a little bit slower but it works! [ Vaibhav Apr 16, 2015 ]
Absolutely. My mini boom stays in the car 7 days a week. It has a long battery charge, so rarely needs to be plugged in. But I have a dual outlet usb charger for the cigarette output so I can re-engergize both the mini boom and my Iphone, as necessary, at the same time while playing music. [ William Apr 15, 2015 ]
Sorry, I don't know. I only use it indoors. [ Edwin Apr 15, 2015 ]
