Not into "do it yourself" car stereo installations? No problem. With a prepaid InstallCard, you can have your new in-dash stereo installed by any professional who's a member of the InstallCard network — there are more than 1,500 locations all across the country. You'll get all the benefits of buying your receiver from Crutchfield, plus the time savings and peace of mind that come with professional installation.

Note: InstallCard uses a network of independent contractors who are unaffiliated with Crutchfield, and we are unable to evaluate each individual contractor.

How does it work?

Simple. First, enter your zip code to see if there's an InstallCard installer in your area (if you don't see an installer listed, you may wish to call InstallerNet at the number listed below the zip code field. New installers are added to the network frequently, so there may be options available for you that aren't yet listed online). Then, just add this card to your online shopping cart, and proceed through checkout as usual. When you receive the card from us, visit, enter the unique InstallCard number on the back of the card, and schedule your installation with the local shop.


When you arrive for your appointment at your local stereo shop, just hand over the InstallCard, along with the in-dash stereo you've purchased and your Crutchfield invoice (it will be included in the box with your order), and your installation begins. And you can feel confident about the quality of work — every installer on the InstallerNet network has at least two years' experience and is MECP (Mobile Electronics Certified Professional) certified. InstallerNet feels so strongly about the expertise of their installers that they will warranty the labor of your installation for the life of your vehicle.

What does this card cover?

With this InstallCard, the professional installer will remove your existing in-dash stereo and install your new Bluetooth receiver (or receiver with Bluetooth adapter). The installer will mount the external microphone (if one is included with your receiver), and will pair up the receiver with your Bluetooth phone. Important Note: Install Cards are not eligible for refunds once installation work is performed.

  • If equipment is determined to be defective during the process of the installation or immediately after while still at the install shop, the installer will swap in its replacement when it arrives at no charge.
  • If the Manufacturer's product becomes defective sometime after the initial installation, and it is determined that the malfunction is not caused by the installation, then the installer will replace the defective unit with a new unit supplied by the customer, and the customer will be responsible for an R&R (removal and reinstallation) charge which will not exceed 50% of the original installation charge.
  • If the customer chooses to remove non-defective equipment (swapping for a different brand, for example), InstallerNet will charge for a completely new installation.

    • your in-dash stereo includes a satellite antenna that must be mounted on the exterior of your vehicle;
    • your vehicle features OnStar (or a similar factory security system), the audio portion of which is broadcast through the factory radio, and the installation of a new in-dash stereo requires replacement of the security-system modules;
    • the factory wiring or dashboard have been cut or damaged as the result of a previous non-professional installation, or theft;
    • your premium factory system (Bose, Infinity, Monsoon, etc.) requires bypassing with an extra wiring harness;
    • no installation kit is available for your vehicle, and the installer is required to fabricate a custom-mounting bracket;
    • your vehicle has factory steering-wheel controls, and you'd like your new in-dash stereo to work with them;
    • your vehicle requires optional mounting brackets or significant, additional labor due to a complex dash disassembly/reassembly process.

I was very please with my experience. I was a little skeptical at first but the purchase of the card was very easy, I was contacted by installer and we agreed on a time for installation. The job took about 2 hours and was professionally done. From start to finish I give my experience a 5 star rating.

Installer, once we were able to find a time to install, was great and I would recommend, but their hours for Installcard are only listed as Monday through Friday and I could not do that without taking time off of work, defeating the purpose. Once I talked to the installer, we were able to set up a time for a Saturday, but this should have been able to be done via Install Card, not so much work for me during a normal work day.

Pros: The installer did a great job!

Cons: Very hard working with Install Card to get things set up with a win-win. Had I not been able to talk to the installer ahead of time, I would have sent everything back to Crutchfield with a huge negative attitude towards the products.

It took a little too much effort to get ahold of the installer for a 5 star rating, but once the local guy showed up he did a fantastic job, very professional. I had to call him 4 times and then call the installnet customer service before I got an appointment. Once I finally got ahold of him he came out right away, and did a fantastic job on the installation. The stereo itself is awesome, it works great, is easy to figure out, and connects to my phone immediately. Great stereo!!

The installation of the stereo and dash kit was fine - InstallerNet worked with me to find a local location with availability when my first choice was scheduled weeks out, and the work was done in a few hours. The problem that crept in, however, is that the steering wheel kit is not covered by the install. The installer claimed it was the wrong device and that he couldn't install it, and declined to talk to Crutchfield. Crutchfield said it was the right device. They ended up shipping me (at no cost) the slightly more expensive "easier to install" device so I could install it myself, and I was able to do so correctly. But the whole point of purchasing the InstallerCard was so that I wouldn't have to splice wiring myself - just because I can do it doesn't mean I want to! I see in other reviews where the installer asked for more money to include the steering wheel adapter, I would have been much happier with that than with the messy situation I got instead.

Pros: InstallerNet worked with me to choose from among available local installers. Using installer was mostly easier than doing it all myself. Crutchfield handled the issue well when I had to escalate to them.

Cons: Installer didn't install steering wheel adapter, and claimed it was the wrong part. Crutchfield says it was the right part. Was that a lie in order to avoid having to do the extra work? Reluctance to ask for more money? Or was it truly too complex for him? None of those options are really good, and it damaged my overall experience.

This card was a simple "One Payment" solution to have stereo equipment installed. Only thing that stinks about this is the scheduling process. To use this, you are required to register it and they call you with only 1 installer location based on your zip code. It would be ideal if they gave you a few options so that scheduling the install would be a little easier. The shop they directed me to was very easy to work with and squeezed me in to their busy Saturday schedule and did the install in under an hour.

It sounds too good to be true. Expert installation by appointment! I fell for it. The installer won't answer his phone. Crutchfield won't answer my emails. I am out $100 bucks and don't have my equipment installed. I am done with Crutchfield.

Well at first I thought this was a legit deal, until I made it to the installation shop. I purchased the receiver with the PAC steering wheel control interface and all other needed items from Crutchfield. The installer told me it would be an extra $35 for the steering controls. That wasn't bad, then they went up to $50. An hour after that they told me they couldn't figure out how to program it and I could buy one from them for $100 plus $25 labor or bypass it. They kind of held me over a barrel so I went ahead and bought a steering wheel control from them, 20 mins and $135 later they were finished. It seemed like they were irritated that I didn't buy their overpriced car stereo, so they stuck me with $100 steering control that retails for $48. Hopefully I can return the control and get a little of my money back. I'll use someone else in the future.

Crutchfield response on December 30, 2014 We're sorry to hear you had this bad experience. The InstallCard does not cover installation of the steering wheel control adapter, so that charge is legit. But the other hassle isn't cool. We will pass this feedback along to the InstallCard people. They pride themselves on having the installers in their network provide good service with fair dealings, especially in difficult situations like this. The SWI-RC steering wheel adapter should have worked in this application, but since it didn't, we issued a refund for it. Hopefully that'll help a little.

Everything on the Crutchfield side of the purchase was perfect. Ordered online, an email from a Crutchfield person assured me I purchased the correct amount installcard. The Crutchfield person also stated the equipment I ordered was all that was needed to install the stereo. Install card webite worked pretty good. The website allowed me to pick cross streets in my town giving a reccommended general location on where i'd like to go for the install. (They still picked a stereo place a "bad" neighborhood, miles away.) I called the install place, and scheduled a during the week lunch time drop off. The address givin to my by the installcard website was incorrect, after a phone call I finally made it to the installer's business. An associate stated a 2 hour install time. 5 hours later I returned. My vehicle was not ready, I waited an additional 90 minutes. I wasn't told but my vehicle was driven off site for the install. Finally the car was returned. Everything in the stereo worked properly. However the stereo was not secured completely in the mount. I asked if it could be more secure. The installer made several attempts. The stereo still wiggled 1/2 inch left to right and a 1/4 inch up and down. The installer then admitted he'd never installed a mechless stereo before and didn't know how to secure it any further than it was. Quote, "this is as good as its gonna get". I left the shop disappointed.

Easy to use. Just go online to choose your installer. I went with a mobile installer. It took slightly longer than I wanted, but it was worth the wait. The guy I set up the appointment with was a bit lacking in customer service, but we got it done. The installer was prompt, flexible with the appointment time, and thoroughly professional. With my hectic work schedule, this was right for me.

I confirmed my appointment with the installer via email. Showed up at 9:00am. The stereo shop seemed disorganized but in the end they did a great job. It took 2 hours for them to get the job done. I paid for the $100 card for the deck to be installed. They did that & also installed my steering wheel controls too. They did charge me $45.00 which i was expecting.

Pros: Awesome job the end result is my stereo works & it looks great !

I was pleasantly surprised at the professionalism, and knowledge of the installer provided through this service. On purchasing this "Install Card", I was a bit apprehensive as to the quality of this service. Once again, Crutchfield came through with stellar customer service. I was contacted by the installer quickly, and we set up an appointment time of my choice. He even came to my home for the installation, which was convenient for me. The installer arrived at the agreed on time, and was both personable and knowledgeable. He made suggestions which were useful and informational to me. He took an appropriate amount of time to do a neat and complete installation, while testing everything to make sure it was functioning properly. I was elated with the experience from start to finish. I would recommend this service to anyone who purchases any electronics from Crutchfield. As handy as I am with seemingly mundane tasks, i would have severely botched this whole job, had I tried this installation myself. In my opinion it pays to leave the expert work to the experts.

Bought my wife a new Kenwood stereo with Bluetooth + Sirius XM for Christmas. I purchased an installer net certificate and had the stereo installed yesterday by a local company. Everything went very smoothly; the installation job was excellent and my wife is now happily streaming music to her car stereo instead of using a mess of cables and other kludges we had in place before.

Pros: Saved me trying to do something I have no idea how to do. Professional job.

Cons: Sirrius XM and Steering Wheel Control installs were extra and not included in the installer net card for the stereo purchase. I don't consider that unfair; it's just something to keep in mind if you decide to go this route.

Much better than installing myself on the day after Christmas in the cold and snow. Very helpful to have quick professional installation.

Pros: I was able to activate the card before the stereo arrived, so that I could arrange an appointment for the day after Christmas.

Cons: Installer forgot to hook up the power antenna wire, but took care of it right away when we took the car back to them.

Turn-around time for getting an appointment was excellent, service was fast & pleasant. Only down side was that, after installation, I had no idea how to sync my cell phone to the stereo, which buttons did what,etc. Installer said "the manual's in the box in the back seat".

Cons: Would've been nice if they'd taken a minute to review the new system with me, and/or help sync the bluetooth.

Install went well. Installer came to my house and finished the job in about an hour. Had him install a steering wheel control unit (additional $60). I would have like to have had a list of names and phone numbers of the Installers in my area to see what they charged for the additional service. Everything works, so that makes me happy.

Pros: Fast, professional service, and I didn't have to monkey with it myself.

Cons: A little costly. The money could have gone to upgrading my speakers.

The first installer I called ceased to exist. Phone number would not accept calls and web site disappeared. put me through to another installer who refused to accept the card as was in arrears. The third installer came to my home. He charged an additional $75 to install the steering wheel controller. It took 5-10 minutes so the price seemed excessive. As soon as he was done he took off without any instruction or guidance. The unit does not sit completely flush with the dash. One corner juts out a little. My wife thinks it's not all that bad but it irks me. I spent a total of $175 for a professional install and it looks like I installed it.

Pros: Well the unit does work.

Cons: Third rate service. No bargain. Should have brought it to a real pro or just done it myself, though I probably would still be working on it. I would never use them again.

Very easy process. There were choices of places to go and I had no trouble chrduling the appointment. There were two problems with the installation, so I had to go back. I would have preferred not to do so,but everyone makes mistaKes. The biggest issue was that the stereo installation instructions were wrong and because th installer didn't have experience with this brand they didn't know. A call to crutchfield resolved the intubation since it was a "known problem".

I went to the installernet web site and filled out a bunch of information to schedule an appointment. I specifically put on there I wasnted to have it done on a Saturday. Seems to me if I take the time put in this info. they should find an installer to do i ton the weekend. A few days later I received an e-mail stating that they found an installer and to call make an appointment with them. I called the installer and they dont do installs on the weekends. This made it tough for me. I also dont like the fact that I have to call the installer to make the appointment. It should have been InstallerNet's job. Also InstallerNet didnt give the installer much info accept, my name, #, and when I would like to do the install. Seems to be they should have told them the make and modle of the stereo?

Pros: The Installer was great. Cheaper than not getting the card.

Cons: Not great communication.

I purchased this card after waiting way too long for my husband to install my new stereo & it was worth the cost. The stereo was working in very little time & I was not charged any extra costs since I had everything needed for the installation already. My stereo was setup to work with my steering wheel controls & the bluetooth mike was installed so there are no exposed wires - you hardly notice it's there. I am very satisfied and would use InstallCard again.

Product Research


Overview: This InstallCard (42-1020) covers the basic installation labor for a professional Mobile Electronics installer to install an aftermarket car stereo with Bluetooth in-dash. The new stereo will be wired with a vehicle-specific radio harness and antenna cable, and mounted with a vehicle-specific dash kit. For Bluetooth, the external microphone will be mounted, cable routed, and your Bluetooth enabled phone paired. The basic installation labor will not cover additional wiring to bypass a factory amplifier, steering wheel control or Onstar type module. This InstallCard does not cover the parts needed for a professional installation; only the labor.

Disclaimers: This InstallCard (42-1000) does not include the following installation costs:

  • If the in-dash stereo has a satellite antenna that has to be mounted on the exterior of the vehicle.
  • Onstar and some other factory security system play through the factory radio and the installation of an aftermarket stereo may require replacement modules.
  • If the factory wires or dashboard has been cut or damaged due to a previous not professional installation or theft.
  • Some vehicle will require additional amplifier bypass harness to rewiring a factory amplifier along with additional labor, for example vehicles that have factory Bose, Infinity or other premium sound system.
  • If there is no installation kit available for your dash and the installer may have to fabricate a custom-mounting bracket.
  • To make any factory steering wheel controls work with an aftermarket radio will require additional parts and labor.
  • Some vehicles may require optional mounting brackets or additional labor due to the complexity of the existing radio removal. For example some cars require the disassemble of a large portion of the dashboard just to remove the radio.
  • European cars, such as BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc. and some exotic vehicles may need additional labor due to the complexity of their wiring.

Installation Warranty: Each installation performed using an InstallCard comes with a nationwide limited lifetime labor warranty. If at any time, the installed product becomes inoperable due to a faulty installation the installer will correct the problem at no charge.

Defective Equipment: If the equipment is found to be defective at the time of installation, the installer will remove the defective unit and reinstall a replacement unit (supplied by the customer) at no additional charge. If the installed equipment fails later, after leaving the installation shop, and it is determined that the malfunction is not caused by the installation, the installer will remove and replace the defective unit with a new unit supplied by the customer, and the customer will be responsible for a removal and reinstallation charge which will not exceed 50% of the original installation charge.

Not sure why you're you not want them to, or are you asking if there would be an additional charge? In my case, I did want them to. They replaced my current system with the new system and returned the current system to me, and all of that was included with my original InstallCard purchase. I would also mention that they did excellent work - the install looked factory perfect. I am still driving that car with that system and everything still works great. [ Raymond  Jan 30, 2016 ]
Hi Nathan, Yes -- the InstallCard includes everything for the install process, which means they'll remove your current system and replace it with the new one. I bought a replacement (upgrade/update) Bluetooth stereo/CD for my Miata and bought the InstallCard.
